Remembering Actor Ed Asner...

image: Hallmark Crown Media

Most of you probably heard the sad news over the weekend that actor Ed Asner passed away on August 29, 2021 at the age of 91. He was born on November 15, 1929 in Kansas City, Missouri to Morris David Asner and Lizzie Seliger. Asner was married twice and had four children: Matthew, Charles, Kate and Liza.

Ed Asner's passing was shared on social media Sunday morning with this message...

"We are sorry to say that our beloved patriarch passed away this morning peacefully. Words cannot express the sadness we feel. With a kiss on your head- Goodnight dad. We love you."

image: Hallmark Crown Media

To a lot of viewers, he is well known from the TV series: Lou Grant and The Mary Tyler Moore Show. However, to a younger generation, he is most well known as Santa Claus in the popular Christmas movie comedy Elf and his Hallmark movies: The Christmas Card (which is a beloved, true Hallmark Classic that pays tribute to our military serving in Afghanistan and the Vietnam War, Asner portrays a Veteran), Generation Gap (like The Christmas Card, this movie is another great tribute to the military), Out of the Woods (he portrays an eccentric Grandpa), Second Chances (Ed plays another heroic character, as retired fireman, Buddy), and Ed Asner has an important role in the All of My Heart trilogy of films, alongside Lacey Chabert and Brennan Elliott. (In fact, I just watched one of the All of My Heart movies last week, and I was thinking how wonderful it was that they were able to have his involvement in all three movies. There's a brief military tribute in this movie, as well. In the first All of My Heart movie, Ed's character shares that his older brother sadly died during the war.)

Actor Brennan Elliott shared this heartfelt tribute on social media...

"This man made everything funny no matter what he said or did! Being able to work with him was a treasured moment for me and everyone on our #aomhmovies. We lost a genius today who will be missed greatly. Keep them all laughing in heaven my friend! Miss you!"

If you take a look at Ed Asner's extensive career at IMDB, then you'll also see that he was planning to do several more projects that were in pre-production. Also, the movie Elf isn't the only time he portrayed Santa; Ed played Kris Kringle in... A StoryBots Christmas, Santa Stole Our Dog: A Merry Doggone Christmas!, Elf: Buddy's Musical Christmas, Olive, the Other Reindeer, The Story of Santa Claus, Christmas on the Bayou, Murdoch Mysteries, and in an episode of Highway to Heaven! Asner did the voice work for many various animations, including: the Pixar movie, Up, plus, Daniel, in the lions' den, in the Adventures from the Book of Virtues and Joshua in Joshua and the Battle of Jericho.

Besides Elf and The Christmas Card (my personal favorite!), Ed Asner starred in many other notable Christmas movies that should be aired each year, but typically aren't... The Man Who Saved Christmas, The Christmas Star, The Gathering, Thomas Kinkade's Christmas Cottage, Yes Virginia, There Is a Santa Claus, Home Alone: The Holiday Heist, and Christmas on the Bayou!

We say goodbye now to this iconic TV legend, and we will fondly remember him each time we watch one of his many shows or movies replay on TV. My prayers go out now to his dear family and friends.

God bless, Net

My thoughts...

To all my dear friends here- this has been another heartbreaking week with the terrible loss of life in Afghanistan with our military and civilians. My prayers are with the family and friends of those whose lives were lost and our military still serving in the midst of this extreme chaos.

As we go into the weekend, I hope everyone enjoys the simple things... time spent with loved ones in person or on the phone, quiet time in The Word, the beauty of nature, and most of all, may we truly appreciate our precious freedom here in America. I pray we never take it for granted and we continue to fight for it.

I know many of you visit here to escape the news for bit, but I had to share from my heart. I will move on now to lighter things... For the new premieres this weekend - I am personally looking forward to watching the new UPtv movie "Love's Match." I've been a fan of Robin Dunne for years - since the family drama series, "Little Men," the early "Aurora Teagarden" mystery movies, and of course, he's Mitch O'Grady, the radio DJ in Hallmark's "On the Twelfth Day of Christmas," which will always be one of my personal Christmas movie favorites!

Are you looking forward to watching something new this weekend? Please share your thoughts in comments below.

Blessings to all my dear friends here, Net

Sisters Kimberly Williams-Paisley and Ashley Williams' Hallmark Christmas Movies Revealed! SEE HERE:

It's official! People has revealed exclusively- actresses and real-life sisters, Kimberly Williams-Paisley and Ashley Williams, will portray sisters in two original Hallmark Channel Christmas movies later this year: "Sister Swap: A Hometown Holiday" and "Sister Swap: Christmas in the City."

I first reported this movie news with the Williams sisters here at It's a Wonderful Movie back in 2018! At that time, the working title was: "Lights, Camera, Christmas" Part 1 and Part 2. Over time it became "Christmas at the Madison" Part 1 and Part 2 and now, finally, we have the two new official titles above!

Both actresses have had their share of Hallmark movies, but this is the first time they are working together, which they say is a dream come true! Ashley Williams has starred in the "Christmas in Evergreen" series of films, plus "Northern Lights of Christmas," "Holiday Hearts," etc... Kimberly has also starred in several Hallmark movies with "Hallmark Hall of Fame's The Christmas Train," "A Nashville Christmas Carol," plus, the mystery series "Darrow and Darrow."

People is reporting... "In the two Sister Swap films, Williams-Paisley and Williams play Jennifer and Meg Swift, two sisters "who couldn't be closer despite living hours apart," according to the release from the network. "Jennifer is in Salt Lake City, running a successful restaurant she started with her late husband and raising her teenaged son Simon (Jacob Buster, Ballers), Meg stayed in their hometown of Hazelwood, helping their parents run the local bakery." The two films will be connected, with one movie focused on the story of Jennifer returning to her hometown, while the other tells Meg's tale of traveling to Salt Lake to help Jennifer's restaurant staff prepare for a Christmas competition among local restaurants."

I think it will be fun to see these two Sisters, who have bubbly personalities, in this 2 part Christmas movies series! Also starring with the Williams sisters, are Mark Deklin ("Meet Me at Christmas") and Keith D. Robinson ("Redemption in Cherry Springs").

Be sure to look for these Christmas movies - when Hallmark begins their holiday programming on October 22nd!

4 Months til Christmas Day! πŸŽ„ Check "Inn" for Christmas Movie details to Mark the 25th... πŸŽ„ SEE HERE:

Photo: Wes Brown, Rachel Boston in Hallmark's "Check Inn to Christmas"

LLC/Photographer: Fred Hayes

It's the 25th Day of the Month again! August 25th marks 4 months until Christmas day and less than 2 months until Christmas movies begin to play on TV! (Hallmark begins their holiday season on October 22nd!) Along with watching Christmas movies, I say it's never too early to get out our Christmas storage containers (like Wes Brown and Rachel Boston above) and get decorating or gift giving!

While we are still awaiting a big drop of official Christmas movie news (could come at any time!), we've been given a few hints, here and there! I'll share some highlights today! It appears there will be a sequel to "The Nine Lives of Christmas" titled: "The Nine Kittens of Christmas," as well as a new "Mrs. Miracle" movie, which is currently filming. I always wonder if they can possibly top the original, but hopefully we will love these just as much! "A Mrs. Miracle Christmas" will be bittersweet without the incredible Doris Roberts, but I hope they pay tribute to her - with perhaps a flashback or two. That would be nice.

As for other Hallmark Christmas movie news, unofficially speaking...

We know sisters, Kimberly Williams-Paisley and Ashley Williams have finally filmed "Christmas at the Madison," part 1 & 2, (UPDATE 8/26: People is reporting the official titles of these movies are Sister Swap: A Hometown Christmas and Sister Swap: Christmas in the City!)

Janel Parrish and Ryan Paevey filmed "Coyote Creek Christmas,"

Danica McKellar and Benjamin Ayres filmed "You, Me and the Christmas Trees"

and Erin Cahill and Wes Brown are currently filming "The Search for Christmas" in Natchez, Mississippi. (Both have previously made Christmas movies down south - Wes Brown previously starred in "Christmas in Mississippi" and Erin Cahill co-starred in "Hometown Christmas.")

If you are wondering about the two most popular ladies of Christmas, whose movies typically dominate Thanksgiving weekend, well... Lacey Chabert once again will have a royal movie with "Christmas at Castle Hart," which is being filmed in Ireland and will include a fancy ballroom scene - details to come! And Candace Cameron Bure recently shared in an interview with US Weekly - "I’m not going to tell you who it is, but I’m getting [my dream Hallmark costar] for my Christmas movie this year." Lots of guesses are swirling around from Niall Matter, Brennan Elliott, Jesse Hutch, Peter Benson and others! Do you have a guess or someone you are hoping? Please share in comments below...

So... that's just some of the Christmas movies we've heard about, so far.
I am waiting to share even more news as soon as Hallmark officially releases it. I feel like I'm peeking in the boxes before Christmas morning, and I don't want to spoil all the gifts. It's nice to have a few surprises!

Now... how will you *Mark the 25th* of August as we Countdown to Christmas? Do you plan to watch a Christmas movie today or wait to watch one of the Christmas movies airing this week? Please share your pick in comments below.

I plan to watch... Christmas Waltz starring Lacey Chabert and Will Kemp. All that talk about her latest movie and ballroom dancing has me in the mood for this one. By the way, if you didn't save Christmas Waltz on your DVR, it is available on DVD - see here!

I hope you all enjoy the new movies this weekend; I'm looking forward to seeing this new chapter in the Aurora Teagarden mystery series.

It's rather hard, though... I must admit, to get really excited over the new movies right now... as it seems so frivolous, considering everything going on in the world. My heart continues to be heavy for our American citizens who are right now living in fear and captivity in Afghanistan. My prayers are with them all - night and day.

May you all have a peaceful and pleasant weekend.

Please note: I have not pre-screened the new movies listed above. If you'd like to post a review on whether a film is family-friendly, please share in comments.

3 More HALLMARK CHRISTMAS MOVIES - NEW on DVD!!! See Here:

These three NEW CHRISTMAS DVD RELEASES include a few movies I've heard mentioned in some of your DVD wish lists! Perhaps one, two, or all three - are your favorites!

Starring: Laura Osnes and Aaron Tveit

Story: When Anna (Osnes) offers a stranded mother (Clark) and son (Tveit) shelter in a blizzard, she learns that they are the Royal Family of Galwick. Anna shows the Prince how they do Christmas in her hometown, encouraging him to open his heart and be true to himself.

Movie Reviews:

πŸŽ„"*So far* One Royal Holiday is my favorite Hallmark Channel movie. I'm tired of Royal movies. The Queen was a highlight of the movie. If this movie comes to DVD, I'm buying it." ~ Namegirl

πŸŽ„ "One Royal Holiday. Loved it! For the most part, I'm not a fan of all the Hallmark "Royal" movies; usually, my eyeballs are in jeopardy of getting stuck up in my head because I roll them so much during these movies. But, THIS Royal movie was, to me, just right. It got a little Hallmark silly/sappy at the very end, but that was easy to overlook. Nothing was too terribly "over-done" or "over-acted" (well.... as non-"over-done" as a movie about falling in love with a Royal prince of a make-believe country can be!! Hah!!). The setting was lovely and Christmas-cozy and I want to go live at that Connecticut inn!!! The entire cast was perfect. The carol-singing was beautiful; I love when they sing carols that give glory to Jesus instead of just secular carols (I like all Christmas carols, but I appreciate when movie directors don't exclude the true meaning of Christmas by just doing Frosty and O, Christmas Tree). Maybe I just happened to be in the right mood to watch this movie, but I'm thinking this is definitely a keeper for my dvr and possibly a purchase when it comes out on dvd. Family friendly." ~~Jane

πŸŽ„"I absolutely loved 'One Royal Holiday' and watched it by myself and then with the family. A keeper and I will purchase it if becomes available." ~ Kathy

πŸŽ„"One Royal Holiday was going to be a favorite just based on the cast alone. Laura and Aaron are two of my favorite Broadway actors and seeing them together was wonderful. The movie was funny, sweet and I see plenty of room for sequels. One Royal Engagement, One Royal Wedding...." ~ Kay

πŸŽ„"One Royal Holiday I’m not normally a big fan of royal movies (except for “Princess for Christmas” and “Crown for Christmas”). There are some parts that were too cheesy for me but it was still cute." ~ CH Mom

πŸŽ„"So far this year, my favorite has been "One Royal Holiday." I hope they release it on DVD. That was such a great movie." ~ Marlena

Starring: Alison Sweeney and Marc Blucas

Story: Two squabbling TV hosts are sent to a festive small town over Christmas. While pretending to get along for the sake of appearance, they discover that there’s more to each other than they thought.

Movie Reviews:

πŸŽ„"I was looking forward to Good Morning Christmas because I know Marc and Alison are fantastic together, and it did not disappoint. Very cute, romantic, and festive. The characters' connection was palpable. I was grinning through the whole thing and rewatched the ending several times. Family friendly." ~ Amy Lama

πŸŽ„"First of all, just seeing Alison Sweeney and Marc Blucas together again was pure magic! These two just lit up the screen! Like many others, I loved them originally in “The Irresistible Blueberry Farm” and while this movie was different than that, I still enjoyed it very much. The energy both Alison and Marc brought to their characters was electrifying. Since the two had worked together before in real life, it was easier to see these two in these roles as old, rivaling colleagues. I loved how as time went by - they began to see each other in a whole new light. It was nice to watch as they went ice skating and decorated the Christmas tree – how their normally competitive natures began to dissolve into having feelings for one another. I very much enjoyed this lighthearted, family friendly movie – it’s one I look forward to watching over and over again! Good Morning, Christmas! is VERY GOOD!" ~Net

πŸŽ„"It was great! Alison and Marc still have that chemistry that was so evident in The Irresistible Blueberry Farm. One of the better movies this year. I hope they will do more movies together." ~ Joyce

πŸŽ„"Good Morning, Christmas is another great movie. Marc and Alison are still perfect together. Want this DVD! "Good Morning Christmas" will remain on my DVR until a DVD is available. This movie tied with "The Angel Tree" as my #1 movie for 2020. Watched this so many times! I love movies with romance and comedy. Marc Blucas should have been paired with Alison Sweeney in her mysteries. The two of them together have the "it" factor that is treasured on TV." ~kitkat

Starring: Brooke D'Orsay and Sam Page

Story: After 15 years, Pat moves home from Hawaii with his two sons and through a series of coincidences, or Godwinks, ends up stuck in traffic next to his high school sweetheart, Margie at Christmas.

Movie Review:

πŸŽ„"A Godwink Christmas: First Love Second Chances When I first saw Brooke D'Orsay and Sam Page paired for this movie I must say I wasn't sure it would be a good match. However in the event they really paired well together - they were so comfortable and warm in each other's company. The story line was pretty much as you would expect and yet it seemed quite fresh. What I found strange was the relationship between Margie and her boyfriend Scott. I know that until now they had only met online but the scenes between them seemed very uncomfortable - I don't even think they touched at all. What I found pleasing was there was a more satisfactory ending than Hallmark so often presents - the look on Margie and Sam's faces at the denoument was so full of love I almost teared up and the epilogue even if it was only a couple of minutes was perfect and left me with warm feelgood feeling. Definitely for the rewatch pile." ~ Anonymous

Hope you found something you love! I'm really happy to see One Royal Holiday and Good Morning Christmas! I liked parts of A Godwink Christmas: Second Chance, First Love, too, but haven't decided on the DVD, yet. I do have all of the other Godwink movies, so it would be nice to have the whole collection.

Also, you can see additional reviews for the movies above and more on the Christmas Movie Reviews page!

Are you planning to order one or more of these Christmas DVDs? Please share in comments below.

What a week this has been. There's nothing quite like Christmas - to put everything into perspective. If only we could all escape to an idyllic holiday world or time travel together past war, famines, and pandemics. It's been heartbreaking to watch the news in Haiti with the earthquake and storm, and then the terrible news coming out of Afghanistan; my prayers are continually being lifted up to the Americans still trapped there. Even when I turn off the news for awhile, my heart is still heavy for those who are suffering and those in fear for their lives. This world needs the love of Jesus; that's why I'm going to keep on praising His name and sharing that incredible love with others.

That's one of the reasons why I love the Christmas movies so much. Even though they may not always share the true meaning, I still get the message loud and clear: "Joy to the World, The Lord has come!" Let us pray together that others will one day know that miraculous joy!

Blessings to you all, Net
