The Waltons' Homecoming Remake this Christmas with original John Boy - Richard Thomas!

Richard Thomas as John Boy

If you enjoy the family drama, The Waltons, then you are going to be interested in this news! The CW Network is bringing the story back this Christmas - with a whole new cast!

This special coincides with a meaningful anniversary for the series. See all the details in the press release below...

Tom Griscom/The CW

Excerpt of CW Press Release:

The CW Heads Back to Waltons Mountain
with the Original Television Movie

“The Waltons’ Homecoming,”
Starring Bellamy Young and Logan Shroyer

and Narrated by Richard Thomas

May 25, 2021 (Burbank, CA) ─ The CW Network announced today three original specials making their debut in fourth quarter 2021, including an original made-for-television movie THE WALTONS’ HOMECOMING, a brand new mystery in the all-new THE SCOOBY-DOO REUNION SPECIAL and a holiday adventure as BEEBO SAVES CHRISTMAS. All dates and times will be announced later.

THE WALTONS’ HOMECOMING is set in the 1933 Depression Era and told through the eyes of John Boy, the 17-year-old eldest child of John and Olivia Walton. His mother expects John Boy to help her raise his sisters and brothers, and his father expects him to follow in his footsteps to help support the family, but secretly, John Boy wants to be a writer. Times are hard enough in 1933, but to make matters worse, it looked to be the Waltons’ first Christmas without John Sr. When Olivia receives a letter that John Sr. is planning to make it home for Christmas after all, the family is thrilled and races to prepare for his homecoming. But when a storm threatens his arrival on Christmas Eve, and John Sr. is nowhere to be found, Olivia sends John Boy out into the night to find his daddy - a journey that will change John Boy’s life forever.

THE WALTONS’ HOMECOMING commemorates the 50th anniversary of “The Homecoming: A Christmas Story” television movie, which aired December 19, 1971, and launched the long-running series “The Waltons.” THE WALTONS’ HOMECOMING stars Bellamy Young (“Scandal”) as Olivia, Logan Shroyer (“This Is Us”) as John Boy and Richard Thomas, who originally starred as John Boy Walton in the beloved television series “The Waltons,” as “The Narrator.” The television movie is produced by Magnolia Hill Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, with executive producer Sam Haskell and writer/co-executive producer Jim Strain. Lev L. Spiro is the director. “The Waltons” original series was created by Earl Hamner, Jr.

--------- END of Press Release regarding The Waltons ---------

My Take:

I love love love The Waltons! Even though the series originally aired on TV before my time, I grew up watching them in reruns - and just fell in love with the show! In fact, before *It's a Wonderful Movie* was ever created or dreamed of, I had a web-site dedicated solely to The Waltons! Yes, I love show that much!

While part of me is thrilled to see this news, another part believes there is no way any actor today could compare to the fantastic actors who originally portrayed these characters. There was just something about them - pure, innocent, and natural - they all truly felt like family. It is encouraging, however, that Richard Thomas is a part of this production, which will hopefully add to the authenticity of this holiday remake.

Hallmark Christmas Movie gives Salute to the Troops! ๐ŸŽ„ SEE HERE:

Where can you find Christmas this week? On Hallmark Movies & Mysteries and the Hallmark Channel, you can find Christmas under the stars with Jesse Metcalfe and Autumn Reeser, AND you can find Christmas at a well known amusement park with Danica McKellar and Niall Matter.

As we approach Memorial Day weekend, I want to highlight a special scene in Christmas Under the Stars, where the Christmas tree lot owner, Clem, briefly speaks of losing his friend, who he met in the Air Force. Then Clem, as seen in the photo above, kindly greets a young service man who is heading out on duty for 6 months and wants to make this Christmas special.

See more details on the Christmas movies airing this week below...

Thursday, May 27, 2021:

Storyline: When Nick, a career-focused investment banker, is fired from his high-powered firm at Christmastime, he takes a job at a Christmas tree lot owned by a warmhearted, elderly man. There, he meets Julie, an astronomy teacher who’s always looked to the stars for hope. As the Christmas spirit washes over him — and he begins falling for Julie — the once self-centered Nick discovers the joy of helping others. When he learns that Julie and the tree lot owner are facing hard times, Nick strives to end their troubles in time for them all to share a Christmas under the stars.

Storyline:Event planner Rachel Davis returns to her Tennessee hometown to take on the biggest job of her career – Dollywood’s 30th Smoky Mountain Christmas celebration – and is teamed up with unimaginative operations director Luke Hakman to plan the event that has to be as bombastic and glamourous as Dolly Parton herself. And when Dolly gets involved in a little matchmaking, Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Christmas event lights up the sky with joy, laughter and love.

Both of these Christmas movies airing this week are family friendly.

I like both of these Christmas movies, especially "Christmas Under the Stars!" The pairing of Jesse Metcalfe and Autumn Reeser is excellent; you'll instantly feel the warmth of this sweet rom-com when love is found at the Star Top Christmas tree lot.

Even though I love this movie, I am, however, a little surprised we are seeing it repeat again during the week... thankfully, *Christmas in July* will be coming soon in June and we'll get to see a little more variety of Christmas movies!

Please share your thoughts on these Christmas movies below...

If you'd like to join in - to celebrate the day - all you have to do is choose something Christmassy to watch TODAY! It doesn't have to be from the list below. It can be a Christmas movie, cartoon, family sitcom or anything you like. (There's only one stipulation - it must be family friendly.) Then, please share in comments below your Christmas choice for the day! I can't wait to hear what you picked!

๐ŸŽ„ ๐ŸŽ„ ๐ŸŽ„ ๐ŸŽ„ ๐ŸŽ„ ๐ŸŽ„ ๐ŸŽ„ ๐ŸŽ„ ๐ŸŽ„ ๐ŸŽ„

I am personally choosing my pick to *Mark the 25th"...

I chose this movie, not only because I love the way it honors our military, but I also enjoy the enriching stories and heartfelt community Grace discovers after returning home from her time in service.

The movie features two wonderful Hallmark stars - Sean Faris and Eloise Mumford, who previously starred together in "Chistmas with Holly." By the way, Eloise Mumford will also be starring in an upcoming Hallmark *Summer Nights* movie - "The Baker's Son."

*A Veteran's Christmas is available on DVD separately, in a Christmas DVD collection and through Amazon Prime Video.

If you are looking forward to the Christmas movies airing on TV this week and in June & July - see the Christmas Movie Schedule - *HERE*!

CBS Announces TWO NEW ROM-COM CHRISTMAS MOVIES! *SEE HERE:

CBS has revealed their Fall line-up via The Wrap
and unveiled 2 new Christmas movies -
“A Christmas Proposal” and “Christmas Takes Flight.”

"A Christmas Proposal" stars Jessica Camacho and Adam Rodriguez

Storylines via CBS/Yahoo Entertainment:

“A Christmas Proposal” - tells the story of a down-on-her-luck chef (actress, Jessica Camacho) who dreams of starting her own line of food trucks and agrees to pose as the girlfriend of a hotshot Seattle attorney (actor, Adam Rodriguez) visiting his family for Christmas, according to CBS’ description. Working together, they try to prove he’s the ideal candidate to take over the family firm, but their business arrangement is complicated by the magic of the season as real sparks begin to fly.

“Christmas Takes Flight” - tells the story of a handsome but frugal CEO who takes over a family-owned regional airline and plans to cut their annual Christmas charity event, while the original owner’s daughter, who is a pilot for the airline, rallies the community to save the event, and finds unexpected love in the process. Once again - Please note: We don't know, yet, which Christmas movies will be family friendly this upcoming Christmas season, but I hope we will have plenty to look forward to, as we did last year.

Los Angeles, CA (May 19, 2021) – Santa’s sleigh is overflowing for Lifetime’s 2021 annual It’s a Wonderful Lifetime holiday slate. In addition to new movies featuring Reba McEntire (details soon!), and returning favorites Kelly Rowland, Melissa Joan Hart, Mario Lopez, Jana Kramer and more, the network is providing a sneak peek of what’s to come!

This year, Lifetime will reunite some memorable casts including High School Musical alums Corbin Bleu and Monique Coleman in A Christmas Dance Reunion.

Additionally, Blending Christmas, directed by Marla Sokoloff, stars Haylie Duff, Aaron O’Connell, Beth Broderick, Telma Hopkins, Greg Evigan and former The Brady Bunch actors Barry Williams, Christopher Knight, Mike Lookinland, Susan Olsen, Jennifer Elise Cox and Robbie Rist.

Descriptions of movies below.

A CHRISTMAS DANCE REUNION

Successful attorney Lucy Mortimer (Monique Coleman), along with her mother Virginia (Kim Roberts) return to the Winterleigh Resort to help celebrate the hotel’s final Christmas season before the resort closes its doors permanently. Once there, Lucy is reunited with the owner’s nephew and her childhood Christmas Dance partner, Barrett Brewster (Corbin Bleu). Though the resort has fallen on hard times and has stopped most holiday events, Lucy leads the charge in recreating the beloved Christmas traditions, including the popular Christmas Dance, to bring together new families and new hope to the resort. Now, Lucy must decide if she's willing to take a risk on love and partner up once more with Barrett for what could be the last Christmas Dance.

A Christmas Dance Reunion is produced by Off Camera Entertainment and Brain Power Studio with Stephanie Slack, Margret H. Huddleston and Beth Stevenson as Executive Producers. Megan Henry Herzlinger and Brian Herzlinger serve as writers. Brian Herzlinger also directs.

BLENDING CHRISTMAS

The holiday season is in full swing when Emma (Haylie Duff) learns that the resort where she used to spend Christmases with her family is being redeveloped. Her boyfriend Liam (Aaron O’Connell), hatches a plan to bring her to the resort one last time to propose! He secretly invites both their families to join them and Emma is delighted when she arrives to find the whole family bunch there. Of course, no holiday gathering is complete without drama, and soon the families are bickering over every detail! The added stress from trying to blend the two families eventually takes a toll on Emma and Liam, who start questioning their own relationship. Now just days before Christmas, the two families realize that they're going to have to work together in order to reunite Emma and Liam!

Blending Christmas is produced by Hybrid LLC. Marla Sokoloff directs from a script by Peter Sullivan and Adam Rockoff.

And because everyone needs some holiday happiness all year round, Lifetime launches It’s a Wonderful Lifetime: Summer of Santas offering some of the most beloved Lifetime holiday films all month long, including Lifetime's Official YouTube Channel, six on VOD, and twenty titles on Lifetime’s app LMC.

--------------END of Press Release---------------

It's fun to see both of these casts reuniting, especially, in my opinion - The Brady Bunch! I think most everyone has grown up watching The Brady Bunch, whether it was live or in re-runs. For me personally, it was in re-runs, weekdays in the summer and after school. Favorite episodes were: Peter's changing voice - Time to Change, Marcia and her Mother, Carol, singing "Together" at the Family Frolic Night, Something Suddenly Came Up date excuse, Amateur Night with two songs - "Sunshine Day" and "Keep On," Jan complaining about being in the middle and the infamous quote "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia," and so many more great episodes! How I wish Florence Henderson (Carol Brady) was still here to be a part of this.

Please note: We don't know which Christmas movies will be family friendly this upcoming Christmas season, but I hope we will have plenty to look forward to, as we did last year.

Are you excited about these two Christmas movies? Please share in comments below. And, if you have a favorite episode of The Brady Bunch, you can share that, too!

UPtv JUNE 2021 TV Movie Premieres ๐ŸŒž SEE HERE:

NEW Wedding Movies are coming Sunday nights to UPtv in June - for their movie event titled June Grooms!

The first movie to start the month off is "The Wedding Ring."

See details on the June Movie Premieres below...

The Wedding Ring

Original Air Date: June 6, 2021

Starring: Lauren Lee Smith and Dillon Casey

Story-line via UPtv: Kate Sterling’s entire life is about proposals. As a jewelry designer she’s created rings for more happy couples than she can count, however none for herself yet. At her sister’s marriage, Kate is given a second change to connect with her childhood sweetheart. Now she has to decide whether their feelings have changed, or if the wedding will re-kindle the sparks that once united them; giving Kate the ring she’s been waiting for her whole life!

Reviews:

๐Ÿ’• "The Wedding Ring was cute. I liked the new-to-me actors. Twelve days later and my soon-to-be-geriatric brain can't really remember any details from the movie - oops! But I'm pretty sure it was family friendly." ~~Jane

๐Ÿ’• "The Wedding Ring – This movie is lighthearted and family-friendly. The characters acted a bit silly, at times, but nothing too outlandish. Kate Sterling portrays a wedding ring/jewelry designer who owns her own shop, but she is offered a new job in the city where an old love interest currently lives. As they start to rekindle their relationship, Kate is torn between her career decision. Much of the movie is spent wondering – will she stay or will she go? It’s a lighthearted story overall. I enjoyed the flashbacks from their childhood and there is a satisfying, happy ending." ~Net

-------------------

The Perfect Wedding Match

Original Air Date: June 13, 2021

Starring: Jenna Michno and Tyler Courtad

Story-line via UPtv: Programmer for the ‘Plus Ones’ matchmaking app Maisie Jacobs is single and dateless for her little sister Ali’s wedding. Keen to avoid her family’s questions, Maisie uses the app to find her own plus one – but is sent the only person she would never date! Could the mix-up be her chance for true love?

Reviews:

๐Ÿ’• "The Perfect Wedding Match. Um. Um. Ummm. This movie. It was kind of cute and, yet, kind of cringeworthy. For me, it was like a train wreck that you just can't look away from. Several times I almost quit watching, but it was such a bizarre mess that I was kind of mesmerized to see if it would be like that all the way through. The characters and their dialogue and the situations they would be in were so over-the-top and sometimes ridiculous that I wondered if the directors were purposefully going for a parody type movie. I'm still not sure?? I kind of enjoyed seeing new-to-me actors and I actually think most of them did a really good job, I think they did exactly what the script or director told them to do, which would make them pretty good actors to pull off this parody style of movie (if that's what they were going for??). I wouldn't necessarily advise anyone to NOT watch it, but just know that if the over-the-top, silly stuff is kind of annoying you, it is not going to get any different as the movie goes on. Basically family friendly but there is one goofy relative that hides bottles of wine that they get out to drink and there were one or two vague comments implying that unmarried couples should travel together to see if they really get along well enough to get married or some such nonsense like that." ~~Jane

๐Ÿ’• "The Perfect Wedding Match – This movie was, indeed, something… the characters acted a bit wacky, at times. The overall flow was fine, but it lacked depth. Maisie needs a plus one for her sister’s wedding and ends up using a match through her own app. Of course, it ends up being someone Maisie knows and already has preconceived feelings of not liking. The movie was mostly family friendly, except for a few issues, such as: the hiding of wine bottles and a little adult dialogue. Overall, I thought there was very little romantic chemistry between any of the couples, and I found myself losing interest as I watched." ~Net

Review:

๐Ÿ’• "A Whirlwind Wedding. Cute. Formulaic. Sweet. A bit awkward in places. Lovely barn wedding set. For me, it was nice for a one-time watch but not a keeper; I think most folks here will enjoy the movie. Family friendly except for in the very beginning the lead actress and her friend are both talking about taking the next step with their respective boyfriends by moving in with them; it's a brief scene but it's definitely talked about." ~~Jane

๐Ÿ’• "A Whirlwind Wedding – The romance in this movie is somewhat slow, at first; however, it’s still very sweet to watch it build. I enjoyed seeing Morgan Kohan again (Lillian, from "When Hope Calls") and her mother, portrayed by actress, Laura Soltis, is recognizable from a number of Hallmark movies – notably in "Five Star Christmas," "Karen Kingsbury's Maggie's Christmas Miracle," "Framed for Murder: A Fixer Upper Mystery," and many others. One caution is when Cassie mentions to her friend her relationship plan to move in one day with her boyfriend. That brief comment was unnecessary to the rest of the story. It was fun, however, to watch Cassie (Kohan) plan her mother’s wedding in just a few days with the help of a local caterer, Kyle Billings, who is also handy with woodworking and construction. It's obvious Kyle and Cassie understand each other and bring out the best in one another – while they are creating the wedding space together in a country barn and trying to rediscover where their passion truly is with their work. Cassie’s current boyfriend is the type who is self-absorbed with his career, until he fears losing Cassie and makes a grand gesture. The country barn decorated with beautiful flowers and party lights for the wedding is beautiful! Plus, the outdoor wedding ceremony was also lovely, but it was quite odd how far the wedding couple stood apart and no kiss was ever shown. (I’m sure this was corona virus related, but the couple could have, at least, stood a little closer. They were nearer to each other in other scenes and later on - on the dance floor, so it was quite odd the distance they stood apart for the actual wedding.) After the wedding is successfully over, Cassie eventually discovers where her heart truly belongs. This is a family friendly, delightful movie; it is my top pick of UPtv’s June Groom movie offerings." ~Net

๐Ÿ’• "A Whirlwind Wedding A hidden gem - I absolutely loved this. Now there's absolutely nothing new to it - a typical "Hallmark-type" movie which we've seen many times before - it's not even fast paced and the romance is slow to develop because of Cassie having a boyfriend in the background but Morgan Kohan and Drew Nelson make a perfect couple, there's sparks at the beginning as they disagree on the menu for her mother's upcoming wedding but come to an understanding not just on this but Kyle comes to her assistance on fixing up the venue. In fact at their first accidental meeting at a restaurant as Cassie is on her way home you can literally feel a frisson between them. The banter between Cassie and Kyle is enthralling and I love the way their relationship deepens. At one stage when Kyle misunderstood a situation which devastated him I could feel myself tearing up. Cassie's mother and her future husband and Kyle's partner and brother are all excellent in the secondary roles. One quibble I did have was that both the inside of Kyle's cafe and at the beginning the barn where they decided to hold the reception were very dark and I found the photography quite gloomy at times. It's always lovely when something you're not expecting a lot from comes up trumps but something about this movie just touched a sweet spot in me. One of my favourite movies this year. Interestingly both the lead actors appeared just a few months previously in a movie called A Romance Wedding and there are some similarities in the plot - at first I thought it must be the same movie under a working title but not so - I just wish UPtv would give it an airing" - Florence
