Congratulations to "Signed, Sealed, Delivered: Truth Be Told" and "The Impossible Dream" for taking first place! The incredible expression of courageous devotion to our country and the promise of leaving no soldier behind are boldly demonstrated throughout both films. My heart is always filled with patriotic pride and my eyes are always brimming with tears of joy when these movies come to an end with a positive, heartwarming conclusion. Remembering Actor Ed Asner...

Most of you probably heard the sad news over the weekend that actor Ed Asner passed away on August 29, 2021 at the age of 91. He was born on November 15, 1929 in Kansas City, Missouri to Morris David Asner and Lizzie Seliger. Asner was married twice and had four children: Matthew, Charles, Kate and Liza.

Ed Asner's passing was shared on social media Sunday morning with this message...

"We are sorry to say that our beloved patriarch passed away this morning peacefully. Words cannot express the sadness we feel. With a kiss on your head- Goodnight dad. We love you."

To a lot of viewers, he is well known from the TV series: Lou Grant and The Mary Tyler Moore Show. However, to a younger generation, he is most well known as Santa Claus in the popular Christmas movie comedy Elf and his Hallmark movies: The Christmas Card (which is a beloved, true Hallmark Classic that pays tribute to our military serving in Afghanistan and the Vietnam War, Asner portrays a Veteran), Generation Gap (like The Christmas Card, this movie is another great tribute to the military), Out of the Woods (he portrays an eccentric Grandpa), Second Chances (Ed plays another heroic character, as retired fireman, Buddy), and Ed Asner has an important role in the All of My Heart trilogy of films, alongside Lacey Chabert and Brennan Elliott. (In fact, I just watched one of the All of My Heart movies last week, and I was thinking how wonderful it was that they were able to have his involvement in all three movies. There's a brief military tribute in this movie, as well. In the first All of My Heart movie, Ed's character shares that his older brother sadly died during the war.)

Actor Brennan Elliott shared this heartfelt tribute on social media...

"This man made everything funny no matter what he said or did! Being able to work with him was a treasured moment for me and everyone on our #aomhmovies. We lost a genius today who will be missed greatly. Keep them all laughing in heaven my friend! Miss you!"

If you take a look at Ed Asner's extensive career at IMDB, then you'll also see that he was planning to do several more projects that were in pre-production. Also, the movie Elf isn't the only time he portrayed Santa; Ed played Kris Kringle in... A StoryBots Christmas, Santa Stole Our Dog: A Merry Doggone Christmas!, Elf: Buddy's Musical Christmas, Olive, the Other Reindeer, The Story of Santa Claus, Christmas on the Bayou, Murdoch Mysteries, and in an episode of Highway to Heaven! Asner did the voice work for many various animations, including: the Pixar movie, Up, plus, Daniel, in the lions' den, in the Adventures from the Book of Virtues and Joshua in Joshua and the Battle of Jericho.

Besides Elf and The Christmas Card (my personal favorite!), Ed Asner starred in many other notable Christmas movies that should be aired each year, but typically aren't... The Man Who Saved Christmas, The Christmas Star, The Gathering, Thomas Kinkade's Christmas Cottage, Yes Virginia, There Is a Santa Claus, Home Alone: The Holiday Heist, and Christmas on the Bayou!

We say goodbye now to this iconic TV legend, and we will fondly remember him each time we watch one of his many shows or movies replay on TV. My prayers go out now to his dear family and friends.

Today we say "Thank You" to those who have served America by defending her and protecting our Freedom! A very special thank you to all of you who visit here who have served in the United States Military and to those of you, who have had a loved one serve. I know that is an incredible sacrifice and love of country, as well.

My Daddy is a Veteran and I'm so proud of his service, along with my Grandfather, Several Uncles, and Cousins. Please share in comments below if you have loved ones who have been in any branch of the military. We are incredibly grateful for their service.

What a blessing it is to live in a Country where we are free; I pray we shall always remain that way.

Let's "MARK" THE 25th!

On May 25th... it's only 7 months until Christmas Day... 213 days and so many hours and minutes, according to my Countdown Clock!!!

To commemorate this special time here at It's a Wonderful Movie... I'll share which Christmas movie I have chosen to watch on the 25th, and for those of you who would like to participate, please share which Christmas movie/program you are watching on the 25th - in comments below!

On this May 25, 2018, I am watching-

The Christmas Card

The Christmas Card is such an incredible story about military service, sacrifice, and discovering a place that feels like home again.

When Master Sergeant Cody Cullen receives a random Christmas card from Nevada City, from a complete stranger, Faith Spellman, he is instantly drawn to her and her picturesque town. Soon after his arrival there, Cody not only meets Faith (when she mistakenly eats some of his curly fries), but he is immediately welcomed by the folks at church, and discovers a connection with Faith's father, Luke, who also served his country years before.

Since The Christmas Card first premiered on the Hallmark Channel in 2006, I'm sure many, many people have seen it over the years, and yet, this movie is one viewers are often drawn back to. In fact, it was Hallmark's first "Merry (Meow) Madness" bracket winner in 2017.

Following Faith's letter to Nevada City restores Cody's faith in his fellow man and the hope of love one day!

Why does this story still resonant so deeply? My conclusion is, we are touched by the heart of the story... the mysterious letter from a stranger, the new, exciting romance, the honorable way they give tribute to all of our military, and this beautiful family that accepts Cody so warmly into their hearts and home.

This movie is filled with so many meaningful moments and visually stunning wintery scenes... the snowfall sleigh ride, the sweet country church and it's members singing Christmas carols, the lumberyard filled with snow, the town's Christmas dance, the waterfall dedication to our Vietnam veterans, and the lovely, warm, and inviting Spellman log-cabin home decorated for Christmas!

There's also lots of wonderful and fun dialogue in The Christmas Card, too... such as, Cody says at the dance (regarding Faith's boyfriend, Paul), "He's just marking his territory."

And, mischievous Uncle Richard says... "The best things happen while your dancing."

The Christmas Card is a true Hallmark Holiday Classic! As the engraving says on the bench Cody gives Luke and Rosie (Faith's parents) for Christmas... it's "where the magic begins!"

This is an ideal movie to watch on Memorial Day weekend, due to the way this film honors our veterans from Korea, Vietnam, and Afghanistan. In addition to it, there are other wonderful choices of Christmas movies that honor our military, including: "Operation Christmas," "Christmas Homecoming," and "The Christmas Note."

As of yesterday, (April 3, 2017) it has been 100 DAYS since CHRISTMAS, and yet, it almost seems like not a day has gone by since we've had some sort of Christmas Movie news or hints- here at It's a Wonderful Movie! (If you LOVE Christmas, this is THE PLACE to be! I'm Tracking Christmas Movies - HERE - almost as fast as NORAD tracks Santa on Christmas Eve! Almost!)

During the final minutes of the first Meow Madness on the Hallmark Channel, came the results in the Christmas Movie Bracket Challenge... "The Christmas Card" defeated "When Calls the Heart Christmas." I'm sure Hearties (fans of "When Calls the Heart") were disappointed, (I love it, too!) but with OVER 8 Million Votes (8,009,291 votes to be exact!) and since "The Christmas Card" has a longer history (first aired in 2006), versus "When Calls the Heart Christmas," which is newer (from 2016!) and only played just once on Christmas Day.... it seems "The Christmas Card" had the edge on being more widely known to viewers over the years - plus, it also just happens to be a wonderful movie! (However, many of the ones that were eliminated, even those early on, ("Window Wonderland," "A Princess for Christmas," "My Christmas Love," and "The Nine Lives of Christmas," which reached the Final Four and more!) are wonderful, too... at least in my book!)

Before Hallmark became such a popular Channel, it was then, and still is... a well known Greeting Card Store... so, it seems quite ironic and appropriate that the first Christmas Movie Bracket Winner for Hallmark is "The Christmas Card!"

And, the best part is... (unless you're the one who won $10,000!) we can all tune in for the winning movie, “The Christmas Card” on the Hallmark Channel - Friday, April 7th at 8/7c!

There’s no way Hallmark Channel’s COUNTDOWN TO CHRISTMAS and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries’ THE MOST WONDERFUL MOVIES OF CHRISTMAS would have a record 32 new films heading your way for the holiday season if we weren’t already tending to them in spring. Here are the next eight films slated for production:

“A Bramble House Christmas”
While settling his father’s estate, Finn Conrad becomes suspicious as to why he left a nurse $50,000. His dad knew her for less than two months before he died. Just before Christmas, Finn wants what to reclaim what he considers his family’s money so he goes undercover to investigate the bed and breakfast the nurse has recently taken over. When Finn meets Willa, he discovers she’s not a conniving gold digger at all. She’s the single mother of a sick boy who needed an operation. Finn’s dad paid for the operation and financed Willa’s dream of running the Bramble House B&B. Though Willa and Finn are protective of their hearts for different reasons, they fall in love – until she discovers his true identity and why he was there. Now Finn must gain Willa’s trust to make this a Christmas to remember.

“Angel Falls”
Fallen angel Gabby must redeem herself. To do so, she’s dispatched to – where else but the town of Angel Falls. It’s not a job for any one being, even one endowed with her special powers. Luckily, Gabby has her own guardian angels, Anna and Michael. All of them work to help the citizens of Angel Falls and along the way, wings and love blossom.

“A Song for Christmas”
Pop superstar Adelaide Kay is so fed up with her controlling manager that she sneaks off the tour bus after their latest squabble. Though exhilarated to be free, she finds herself stranded in the freezing cold of a Pennsylvania winter, with no money and no plan. A local family, the Lapps, take her in. They know the true meaning of the season, even if they’re close to losing their dairy farm. No one in the family recognizes Adelaide except Dillon, the oldest son. He figures she’s the ticket to fast cash and plots to snap photos of Adelaide around the farm and sell them to the tabs. What he doesn’t plan, however, is their mutual attraction. As they get to know each other, Dillon has two realizations: profiteering from invading Adelaide’s privacy is wrong and his uptight girlfriend is not the one for him. When Adelaide performs a song, which Dillon’s kid sister wrote, a lot of money is earned which aids the Lapps and other strapped farmers.

“Christmas for Joy”
Joy may be down-on-her-luck but her humanity is intact. She jumps to the aid of a stranger, rescuing the woman from a terrible accident. The woman who nearly died is quite successful and learns a great lesson from her accident: Helping others is the key to true success and could be the path to finding true love as well.

“Christmas Shuttle”
It’s not easy being Henry, the only child of divorced parents. Every Christmas, he’s flown cross-country to be with his dad. Because he’s 8, a flight attendant looks after him from gate-to-gate. Henry instantly takes to the engaging Megan, who wears a Santa hat while helping him write a letter to the jolly guy. Megan promises to mail it to the North Pole, but slips the note to Henry’s dad. Henry has already decided Megan and his dad would be a great couple. And with all the sophistication of a little boy, he tries setting them up. It turns out that Megan has no plans for Christmas dinner. Naturally, Henry invites her over, giving the adults a chance to see that they are perfect for each other.

“Good Sam”
As an L.A. news reporter, Kate has spent years covering people’s worst actions, often on their victims’ worst days. She’s finally assigned to a story focusing on a wonderful act of generosity. An anonymous good Samaritan, dubbed Good Sam, has left $100,000 in cash on the front porches of 10 people. Kate tracks down Good Sam and her exclusive interview with him thrusts her into the national spotlight. Those years of having to dig for the truth have made Kate attuned to when people are lying and she suspects the man laying claim to the credit is not who he says he is. Searching for answers, Kate unravels the unexpected reason behind the mysterious cash gifts and the true identity of Good Sam becomes the biggest surprise story of her career, upending her personal and professional life.

“Karen Kingsbury’s Maggie’s Miracle”

I can't help from wondering... if some of the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries films didn't do, quite as well, because not everyone has this station and the opportunity to see these shows... and many of them are quite good!

Actually, many of my own absolute favorites came in at the bottom half of this list, but that's okay... this is quite a great listing of popular Christmas Movies! "Deck the Halls" received the lowest amount of votes, and I wonder if that is due to there being other Christmas Movies with this title, and being somewhat unknown... since it was also a new premiere on HMM, and not as many viewers, probably saw it. While it's not a good movie for young viewers, due to Santa issues and minor violence, it was a very fun mystery... ideal for Hallmark Movies & Mysteries! Hope to see it, again... and all the movies above replay in November & December!
