No More CHARLIE BROWN Cartoon Specials on TV - in 2020? Oh, Good Grief!

I've been checking and re-checking the schedules the last few weeks - searching for the annual airing of "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" and "You're Not Elected, Charlie Brown." Typically these two episodes air together around Halloween and just before the Election. Well, news has just been coming out (thank you for emailing that article, Jim!) that the reason we can't find Charlie Brown on ABC's schedule this year is because Apple TV+, which is a streaming service, has purchased the rights to the Peanuts Cartoons.

So... this means not only will we NOT see "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" on TV, but that means "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" and "A Charlie Brown Christmas" are gone from ABC, too. I feel like Lucy just pulled the football away - just as we were getting ready to kick it. How could ABC let this happen? I can't even imagine Christmas without Charlie Brown saying "Isn't there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about?" And then, of course, sweet Linus responds with, "Sure, Charlie Brown, I can tell you what Christmas is about... Lights, please!" The spotlight shines on Linus center stage as he shares the story of Jesus' birth straight from the scripture Luke 2:8-14...

"And there were in the same country
shepherds abiding in the fields,
keeping watch over their flocks by night.
And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them,
and the glory of The Lord shone round about them,
and they were sore afraid.
And the angel said unto them,
Fear not, for behold,
I bring unto you good tidings of great joy,
which shall be to all people.
For unto you is born this day
in the City of David,
a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.
And this shall be a sign unto you;
you shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes
and lying in a manger.
And suddenly there was with the angel,
a multitude of the heavenly host,
praising God, and saying,
'Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace, good will toward men'.

That's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown."

There's something so pure and innocent about Charlie Brown and all of the Peanuts beloved characters - Sally, Linus, Lucy, Schroeder, Franklin, Peppermint Patty, Marcy, Woodstock, Snoopy, the little red-head girl and many others! I'm afraid once this wholesome message is lost yearly on TV, a whole generation of children may grow up not really knowing what Christmas is all about. This may be the only exposure some children or even some adults get to the true meaning of Christmas.

Apple TV+ is offering these cartoons free, for a limited time, but I have a feeling it's just a way to get subscribers hooked into their streaming service. According to the article from cordcuttersnews.com, Apple TV+ is planning to create new specials for our Peanuts characters centered around Mother's Day, Earth Day, etc... I sure hope they don't try to politicize these characters that we love.

I'm also hearing the Charlie Brown cartoons will not be available to stream via Amazon or elsewhere; they are truly exclusive to Apple TV+. If you want to have them forever in your home and view them over and over again whenever you wish - for years to come, the best option is to buy them on DVD. There are various options you can see below, from buying them individually or in DVD sets. I personally own a Holiday DVD Collection, myself, but I am going to make certain I own every special Peanuts Episode!

Remembering our dear friend, Sherry...

Over my many years of blogging, I have met many wonderful people. One of those people was someone who became a dear friend, Sherry. You may recall she would often comment here with her name and state, Sherry from California. She was as great as any detective, finding clues to movies no one knew anything about, just yet, and sharing bits of information she would find on various Hallmark films in production. Sherry had a fantastic insight into figuring out which movies would be premiering next and who might star in them. She loved following the clues and was fantastic at doing so.

Unfortunately, I have learned that dear Sherry has passed away. My heart broke hearing this news, as we had become great friends –emailing and messaging one another back and forth about movies and things going on in our lives and in the world. Throughout the pandemic we would email our concerns with one another and do our best to uplift each other’s spirits.

Sherry and I talked endlessly this spring about when we anticipated film production would start up again; she was very much looking forward to the new “Aurora Teagarden” mystery and most of all, the upcoming slate of Christmas films. Alicia Witt was one of her favorite actresses; she was very much in tune to when she and Andrew Walker were filming “Christmas Tree Lane,” and was looking forward to this new premiere and numerous others.

Many of you may also know Sherry from Facebook, as well, since she would often share there to various Hallmark groups. Last year she joined Twitter- with the handle @HotlineHallmark – and Sherry was just that – an excellent source and ‘Hotline to Hallmark’ news. Sherry was always in the know on what was coming and what was in-the-works, whether it was a new movie, preview show, or special marathon.

I will so miss chatting with her on movies and all sorts of subjects, and I wanted to let all of you know we lost a dear member of this “It’s a Wonderful Movie” family. Sherry still visited here often and I know she was glad to share with so many of you – who were upbeat and positive about the lighthearted movies she loved.

I’ll always be grateful for Sherry’s thoughtfulness and kindness. My heart and prayers go out now to her dear family and friends.

We will miss you, Sherry!

Love you, my friend... Net

She becomes reacquainted with Sam, the disheartened estate lawyer and single dad, grieving for his late wife. "Two Turtle Doves" absolutely swept my heart away with the beautiful love story with Sharon (Nikki Deloach) and Sam (Michael Rady), plus there's a precious AND precocious little girl and the mystery of a lost ornament!

As for "When Calls the Heart," what can I say? I just love this series so much and all of the wonderful people in Hope Valley played by such wonderful actors: Erin Krakow, Jack Wagner, Pascale Hutton, Kavan Smith, Kevin McGarry, Paul Greene, Chris McNally, Martin Cummins and Andrea Brooks. This heartwarming movie shows the gift of family and friends, sacrifice and home!

🌟 THREE Family-Friendly CHRISTMAS MOVIES You Must-See, if you haven’t already! 🌟

Christmas Movies will be returning to our TV's soon in full force - around the clock. Recently, I re-watched THREE Christmas movies from the past:

Christmas Manger,
Wish for Christmas,
and Christmas Jars!

After doing so, I must wholeheartedly recommend ALL THREE to my friends here! You may want to look for these movies on TV throughout the busy Christmas movie season, or get a copy on DVD or watch via streaming. (By the way, I have information on DVD and Streaming Video options for each movie in this post!)

If your like me and enjoy an inspirational movie that tells the true story of Christmas, or pulls at your heart strings, then you’ll want to see ALL THREE of these wonderful Christmas movies!

PLEASE NOTE: THE LINKS BELOW ARE TO MY AFFILIATE, AMAZON. When you click on this merchant link and make a purchase, this can result in this site earning a commission. This does not change the price for you. Thank you for supporting "It's a Wonderful Movie" and shopping through my site!

See details on each movie below…

Christmas Manger –

Starring: Andrea Logan White, Steve J. Young, Randy Wayne, Taylor Bedford, Graham Schneider, and Tara Reid

Story-line: Fleeing an abusive relationship, Jessica is reunited with her estranged foster father, "Chap," a rough-around-the-edges rancher. With the help of a handsome neighbor, the group learns to trust again and discovers that there is hope and healing at the manger.

My Take: This is such a heartwarming movie – about an abused woman, Jessica, with two children, who moves back to the only secure home she's ever known, with her former foster father, Chap. Right away, there are obvious hurts from the past that may take time to heal. Jessica's daughter, Cassidy, will instantly capture your heart with her childlike innoncence and eager capacity to love and know more about the Christmas Manger story. She adopts Chap as her Grandpa and convinces him to not only build a Manger, but the entire Inn and town in Bethlehem. Can they convince Spencer, Jessica's teenage son, to help with the big project? In the meantime, Cassidy and Spencer's abusive father is looking for them. Will they be safe with Chap on his ranch this Christmas or will they have to run away - again?

This Pureflix movie will surely inspire your Christmas spirit. The story is a wonderful telling of the first Christmas and the beauty of family, by blood or chosen in the heart.

”Christmas Manger” is available at on DVD at Amazon

5 Movie Collection available on DVD at Amazon

Prime Video Streaming – Amazon

Wish for Christmas –

Starring: Joey Lawrence, Leigh-Allyn Baker, Anna Fricks, and Bill Engvall

Story-line: When a high school senior finds out from her parents that she has to miss the town's winter dance to attend Christmas Eve service at church, she successfully wishes their faith away, bringing disastrous consequences to her family and community.

My Take: This powerful story in “Wish for Christmas” shows what Christmas would be like, if there was no celebration of Christ’s birth during the holiday season when a selfish teenager, Anna MacLaren, gets her Christmas wish.

This element of the story, when Anna gets her wish, has an ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ feel to it. In the same way that George Bailey gets to experience Bedford Falls if he had never been born, Anna MacLaren gets the opportunity to experience Christmas without Christ.

There is a wonderful, impactful message in this film about how different our lives would be without the love of Jesus. When the celebrations and Christmas decorations that honor Jesus’ birth are suddenly gone and the light that was once there is now dark, Anna suddenly feels cold and empty without Jesus in her life. Is there a way for Anna to have her wish reversed and bring the true Joy and meaning of Christmas back?

“Wish for Christmas” will inspire you to embrace the first Christmas and remind you how the significance of Christ's birth touches everything we do throughout the Christmas season and every day of our lives.

This Pureflix movie is ideal for family viewing!

”Wish for Christmas” is available alone on DVD - Amazon

Christmas Jars –

Starring: Jeni Ross, Markian Tarasiuk, Tara Yelland, Zerha Leverman and Ron Lea

Story-line: Based on the New York Times best-selling novel by Jason F. Wright. Hope is an aspiring reporter who has had her fair share of tragedy in life. Abandoned at birth, she's grieving the recent death of her adopted mother when her apartment is burglarized of all her possessions.

While reporting the burglary to the police, Hope discovers a jar full of money, labeled "Christmas Jar." Shocked and grateful for this act of kindness, Hope discovers that people all over her hometown of Columbus, Ohio have been receiving Christmas Jars for years during times of need. The jars are always anonymous and always contain different amounts. In this heartwarming Christmas classic, Hope goes undercover to discover the secret behind the Christmas jars, putting into motion a series of events that will change her life, and her community, forever.

My Take: When this movie premiered on BYU last Christmas (2019), I really didn’t know what to expect. Some of the past holiday movies I’ve seen on that network, have been lighthearted and wholesome, in a sweet simple way, so I wasn’t anticipating this incredible drama.

The acting in "Christmas Jars" was excellent and the story-line was deep and full of intrigue. The beginning of the movie, I admit, starts off rather sad and slow, so please prepare yourself for that, and there’s a bit of office silliness that’s surely meant to add a little comic relief, but for me, the story truly picks up around the secret of the Christmas Jars, and trust me, you’ll be completely taken in by that mystery! Reporter Hope Jensen is determined to discover who gives out the Christmas Jars each holiday and why– which leads to even more fascinating revelations and potential romance! Will revealing the true identity of the Christmas Jars giver, jeopardize Hope’s longing for love, family and friendship?

This heartwarming movie will not only warm your heart, it will bring tears to your eyes. It ended up being one of my absolute favorites from 2019!

"Christmas Jars" is available on DVD at Amazon
(By the way, I just checked the price and it's a lot more reasonable than it was previously.)

Storyline via Hallmark: Josie Hughes is a hopeless romantic who believes in the kind of romance in black-and-white movies where the leading lady finds her one true love and gets swept off her feet. She also believes the wedding bouquet always finds its way to the right person when tossed by the bride, as proven time and again at weddings dating back to her childhood. But single Josie ends up with the bouquet at her friend Emma’s wedding instead of their not-single friend Athena and fears she’s wrecked her chances of getting engaged. But when Josie begins dating eligible bachelor Will after meeting at the reception – much to the dismay of her long-time friend Alex, who has secretly held a torch for her since college – she decides the bouquet is responsible for the budding romance and begins to think that Will is “the one.” As Josie clings to the notion that the bouquet is always right, she’s missing the real-world signs that her perfect match is someone else who’s been right in front of her all along.

It's hard to believe we are nearing the end of Fall Harvest movies and all of the NEW Christmas movies are fast approaching! Less than 2 weeks to go - before they all begin! If you're getting into the spirit, like I am, you can check out the Christmas TV Schedule - HERE! This year I've decided it will contain the new premieres, along with cherished, classic favorites - such as: It's a Wonderful Life, A Charlie Brown Christmas, and many more! You'll want to be sure to check back for updates & changes along the way - throughout the Christmas season. ( As we faithful Christmas movie watchers know... *sigh* ...there are always changes! )

The leaves on our trees here in the Midwest are still in the incredible turning stage. It is amazing to watch them gradually change daily from their light grassy green color to a pumpkin orange shade, with some rustic tones. What a wonderful reminder it is that "To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven..." (Ecclesiastes 3:1)

I pray today is a beautiful season in your life!

Blessings to you all! Net
