May 4, 2022 (Burbank, CA) — The CW Network announced today a new, original made-for-television movie THE WALTONS’ THANKSGIVING will debut in the fourth quarter 2022. An exact air date and time will be announced later.

In THE WALTONS’ THANKSGIVING, the holiday spirit is in the air on Walton Mountain in 1934 as the Walton family eagerly prepares for the annual Harvest Festival Fair in town. Carnival rides, talent shows and pie contests come around every year, but at this year’s Harvest Festival Fair, a young boy arrives that will dramatically change the Waltons’ lives in ways that they could have never imagined.

From Warner Bros. Television, THE WALTONS’ THANKSGIVING is a follow-up to The CW’s original television movie THE WALTONS’ HOMECOMING, which was the network’s second most-watched special of the 2021-22 season. THE WALTONS’ HOMECOMING took home a 73rd Annual Christopher Award in Television, Cable and Streaming, as well as two Movie Guide Awards for the Epiphany Prize in Television and star Bellamy Young for the Grace Prize in Television for most inspiring performance of the year. It was also the winner of the Environmental Media Association’s Green Seal Award for implementing sustainable practices and raising environmental awareness.

THE WALTONS’ THANKSGIVING stars Bellamy Young (“Scandal”) as Olivia, Logan Shroyer (“This Is Us”) as John Boy, Teddy Sears (“The Flash”) as John Sr., and Richard Thomas, who originally starred as John Boy Walton in the beloved television series “The Waltons,” as adult John Boy, who narrates the movie. The television movie is produced by Magnolia Hill Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, with Emmy®-winning executive producer Sam Haskell, writer/co-executive producer Jim Strain, co-executive producer Hudson Hickman, producer Billy Levin, and producer Bobby Kelly. Joe Lazarov is the director/co-executive producer and Grammy® winner Tena Clark is the composer. “The Waltons” original series was created by Earl Hamner, Jr.

Excerpt of CW Press Release:

The CW Heads Back to Waltons Mountain
with the Original Television Movie

“The Waltons’ Homecoming,”
Starring Bellamy Young and Logan Shroyer

and Narrated by Richard Thomas

May 25, 2021 (Burbank, CA) ─ The CW Network announced today three original specials making their debut in fourth quarter 2021, including an original made-for-television movie THE WALTONS’ HOMECOMING, a brand new mystery in the all-new THE SCOOBY-DOO REUNION SPECIAL and a holiday adventure as BEEBO SAVES CHRISTMAS. All dates and times will be announced later.

THE WALTONS’ HOMECOMING is set in the 1933 Depression Era and told through the eyes of John Boy, the 17-year-old eldest child of John and Olivia Walton. His mother expects John Boy to help her raise his sisters and brothers, and his father expects him to follow in his footsteps to help support the family, but secretly, John Boy wants to be a writer. Times are hard enough in 1933, but to make matters worse, it looked to be the Waltons’ first Christmas without John Sr. When Olivia receives a letter that John Sr. is planning to make it home for Christmas after all, the family is thrilled and races to prepare for his homecoming. But when a storm threatens his arrival on Christmas Eve, and John Sr. is nowhere to be found, Olivia sends John Boy out into the night to find his daddy - a journey that will change John Boy’s life forever.

THE WALTONS’ HOMECOMING commemorates the 50th anniversary of “The Homecoming: A Christmas Story” television movie, which aired December 19, 1971, and launched the long-running series “The Waltons.” THE WALTONS’ HOMECOMING stars Bellamy Young (“Scandal”) as Olivia, Logan Shroyer (“This Is Us”) as John Boy and Richard Thomas, who originally starred as John Boy Walton in the beloved television series “The Waltons,” as “The Narrator.” The television movie is produced by Magnolia Hill Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, with executive producer Sam Haskell and writer/co-executive producer Jim Strain. Lev L. Spiro is the director. “The Waltons” original series was created by Earl Hamner, Jr.

--------- END of Press Release regarding The Waltons ---------

My Take:

I love love love The Waltons! Even though the series originally aired on TV before my time, I grew up watching them in reruns - and just fell in love with the show! In fact, before *It's a Wonderful Movie* was ever created or dreamed of, I had a web-site dedicated solely to The Waltons! Yes, I love show that much!

While part of me is thrilled to see this news, another part believes there is no way any actor today could compare to the fantastic actors who originally portrayed these characters. There was just something about them - pure, innocent, and natural - they all truly felt like family. It is encouraging, however, that Richard Thomas is a part of this production, which will hopefully add to the authenticity of this holiday remake.

A Special INVITE for Christmas Movie Fans on NEW YEARS DAY! (Don't be Late!)

Feast your eyes on what INSP has in store for us viewers today! It's a special trip down memory lane!

This is a special invitation for all viewers to join INSP for their first premiere presentation of...

The Waltons: The Homecoming
Monday, January 1st, 2018 at 3pm ET!

Story details via INSP:
The pilot movie that became the beloved series, The Waltons! Though much of the adult cast changed when the series took to the airwaves, all of the children, who star in the series, including Richard Thomas, are in this movie. Patricia Neal plays Olivia Walton; Edgar Bergan is Grandpa Walton; Andrew Duggan plays John Walton. Ellen Corby debuts her role as feisty Grandma Walton, and we meet, for the first time, many INSP fan-favorite characters we later grow to love in the series, including the Baldwin sisters!

It’s the Christmas season of 1933 and the hard times of The Great Depression have hit Walton Mountain. The family sawmill is shut down for lack of business, and in order to survive, John Walton, Sr. must leave home and travel more than 50 miles to find work. As the family prepares for the holidays, they can’t wait to be reunited with him.

In the meantime, leading up to the big day, life goes on. Mary Ellen tells her younger siblings the legend of Christmas Eve, when, at midnight, it’s said that all the animals are able to speak. They make plans to stake out the barn and hear the chatter for themselves.

A missionary gives out broken toys to the impoverished children on the mountain. Elizabeth gets a cracked baby doll, and learns a memorable lesson about charity.

And at 15, John-Boy harbors a secret that he can’t tell his family. He wants to go to college someday to be a writer, but he knows they’d never be able to afford tuition, and may not even approve of such plans. In fact, he’s already started writing down his thoughts, hopes, dreams, and the abiding moments that bring his loving family to life, but he keeps his writing close to the vest, and is sure no one knows about it.

Now, it’s Christmas Eve, and still there is no sign of John Sr. coming home. On a radio broadcast, Olivia hears of a blizzard and a train wreck in the vicinity of where John is coming from. She fears this would delay his return, or worse, that he was a passenger on the train, that he’s injured or dead. Thinking John would be stranded on the side of the road, Olivia sends John-Boy out, on the day before Christmas, to search for his father.

I hope you will join me, in coming home once again to the Walton's family with their first movie, "The Homecoming: A Christmas Story," that began the journey of what would become the popular, highly rated television series- "The Waltons"!

You can almost taste that applesauce cake cooking in the oven and the smell of the evergreen tree as they decorate it with pretty things and homemade Christmas decorations!

It's a simple time when things were hard, and yet, they had everything in the world the could possibly need, as long as they had one another!

Enjoy the show!!! God's Abundant Blessings to you all in this New Year - 2018!!! Net

Say Goodnight to THE WALTONS Home...

The end of an era has come. Recently I read an on-line article, which stated producers from the TNT network believe "little remember" the long running television drama series "The Waltons". Therefore, in order for them to proceed to what they deem as progress, "The Waltons" home, where interior shots were filmed for the series on a Warner Brothers Studios stage in Burbank, California, has been destroyed, so they can make room for, and I quote: "for buzzy, edgy fare". In a nutshell, that is essentially more thrillers and crime dramas.

The Waltons Home - Exterior
image: DVDtalk

According to the article, the new boss at TNT, Kevin Reilly wants to re-make the network over with a new vision, in the course of the next three years.

This particular paragraph about "The Waltons", in the article, jumped out at me and I must say, offended me, my family, and millions of TV viewers, past and present:

"Such comfort food was fine in an era of passive television viewing, when there were relatively few choices. "The Waltons" didn't have much competition. But it's also, in Reilly's view, little remembered. People actively choose what shows to watch now, and they need some flash and critical attention." (excerpt from article: "New Management Maps a Radically Changed TBS and TNT")

image via: theopulentpoppy.blogspot.com

"Comfort food?" Yes! "The Waltons" are Americana as apple pie. Sadly, this is reflection of the times in which we live, as the family unit is being torn down. The Waltons were and still are a comfortable place to visit for an hour. They are family and always make you feel at home. A moral teaching was often given in each episode that taught us right from wrong. Love was not thrown away like trash, as it is in most television programs today, but was respected and cherished. Set in the Great Depression era, "The Waltons" series is also a great historical teacher, as it depicts the hardships of that time.

Since many first welcomed "The Waltons" in their homes in 1972, and as it continued to Season 9 in 1981, and then later on with reunion movies, re-uniting specials, etc... the show has continued on since those days in re-runs. And, still today, it remains on TV! With all the entertainment choices available, numerous channels at our very fingertips... many still happily, purposefully choose to watch this beloved series, whether it is through re-runs, streaming sources, or DVD. Why? Because we love the lasting truth of family values, hard work, togetherness, faith, heartwarming stories, and lessons learned during good and bad times.

Looking back now, I am proud I grew up watching the re-runs of this beautiful series, and I pray many children and families will again do so today. The stories and the family feel like they are a part of me. It's a world where cell phones and hand held gadgets don't exist. Is it peaceful? Yes. Perfect? No. It's real. Emotional. Tough. Hard times can test and try anyone's faith, but in the end coming together as a family at the dinner table is such a beautiful moment for the Walton family, when everyone joins hands and bows their head in prayer, as Daddy or Grandpa, typically says grace.

image via: allaboutthewaltons.com

No matter what Hollywood creates or destroys today, in the name of progress, "The Waltons" iconic home will forever live in the hearts of all Walton fans as a place of love and beauty, a treasured home-place, where everyone jumps up to greet you and welcome you home with a warm embrace, where Momma and Daddy tuck you in at night, where you feel safe and loved, and where everyone takes a turn to say "Goodnight".

Do you still remember or watch "The Waltons"? I certainly hope and pray many families will continue to gather around the TV and watch this beloved, heartwarming series together. I know I think of it fondly and in spite of all the options out there, I still choose and always love to catch a favorite episode in re-run.

The Waltons continues to air today in re-runs on the INSP network, weekdays at 3pm/2c., 4pm/3c. and 7pm/6c. Thank you INSP for carrying this beautiful series on your network for all of us to continue to enjoy watching with our families today and hopefully for many years to come!

THE WALTONS Cast Members Reunite on Hallmark Channel's "Home and Family"!

It's a Reunion of The Waltons... as cast members Michael Learned (Olivia), Richard Thomas (John Boy), Judy Norton (Mary Ellen), Mary McDonough (Erin), and Kami Cotler (Elizabeth) from this popular family drama series are welcomed into the "Home and Family" home for a heartwarming visit, to reminisce and share memories on Monday, August 3, 2015 @10 AM/9c. on the Hallmark Channel.

* image credits below

via zap2it.com:
"The reunion includes Thomas baking a pie with “Home & Family” host Cristina Ferrare, Norton singing a song as tribute to the “Waltons” actors who have passed away and Cotler demonstrating a “Waltons”-era do-it-yourself craft.

Learned will also take viewers on a tour of the theater founded by Will Geer (Grandpa Walton) — the Theatricum Botanicum in Topanga, Calif. — with Debbie Matenopoulos. The reunion’s opening and closing segments will be narrated by “The Waltons” creator and narrator, Earl Hamner, now 92 years old."

My thoughts...
As a long-time devoted fan of this well-loved series, I am delighted to see these 5 Walton family members come together for this special get together of sharing memories. The Home & Family show is also wonderful about emphasizing and recreating special moments from the shows they highlight - so I look forward to seeing how they give tribute to The Waltons! It would be wonderful to see them all around the dinner table, again... but, I can almost guarantee it will end with everyone saying "Goodnight"!

See the "Home and Family" Reunion of The Waltons - Monday, August 3, 2015 @10 AM/9c. on the Hallmark Channel.
