A Lot Like Christmas

Storyline: In “A Lot Like Christmas,” Jessica Roberts (Maggie Lawson) owns the most popular Christmas Tree lot in the picturesque New England town of Hudson Springs. But when big-city marketing executive, Clay Moore (Christopher Russell) moves a “Big Box” store into the area and starts selling trees, Jasmine finds her business in jeopardy. As their professional competition escalates, Jasmine and Clay run into another complication – they start falling for each other.

I love the scene pictured above in A Lot Like Christmas when they give the mother in the movie a group hug. In spite of the possibility of losing their business, they look on the positive and feel so blessed to have each other and good friends!

PURE FLIX AND GREAT AMERICAN MEDIA TO MERGE

Hey, movie friends! Have you heard the latest entertainment news involving Great American Media that was released on Thursday afternoon? Pure Flix (the streaming service) will be merging with Great American Media!

I've had a subscription with Pure Flix for a couple years, and I've watched some excellent faith-filled and inspirational films through their streaming service. However, even with all the hits I've seen, I've also seen some misses, too, but that's to be expected.

Pure Flix offers religious and family-friendly movies and TV series for streaming, so I believe Great American Media's original films and programming will be an ideal fit.

See all the details below...

Press Release:

PURE FLIX

AND

GREAT AMERICAN MEDIA

TO MERGE

Sony Pictures’ Faith and Family Streaming Service to Join Forces with Great American Media’s Portfolio of Family-Friendly Cable and FAST Channels to Serve Growing Audiences

Culver City, CA and New York, NY – May 11, 2023 – Pure Flix, a leading faith and family streaming platform owned by Sony Pictures Television, and Great American Media, home to a growing portfolio of family-friendly media brands, today announced the signing of an agreement to merge the two companies. Pure Flix will become part of the merged company, with Great American Media contributing two cable networks (Great American Family and Great American Living) and a FAST channel (Great American Adventures). Great American Media will retain a majority interest in the merged company and will oversee day-to-day management of the independent organization.

Great American Media President and CEO, Bill Abbott, will serve as CEO of the merged entity, reporting to the company’s board of directors. The new company will build on the multi-faceted, multi-channel family and faith media brands in the portfolio. Closing of the deal is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals.

Pure Flix and Great American Media share the same mission to serve and delight consumers in the family and faith categories. Combining the power of Great American Media’s linear networks and FAST channel with Pure Flix’s SVOD service and vast content library will provide an opportunity for each platform to reach a larger and broader audience. Bringing the brands together into one entity will immediately establish the company as a leader in the genres.

“In a media environment where programming and distribution business models are in a constant state of flux, this agreement provides a rare opportunity to maximize our potential with the expertise, market knowledge and content creation capabilities of a world class partner like Sony Pictures,” said Abbott. “This merger will allow us to further our commitment to original, quality content and makes Great American Media and Pure Flix leaders in a large and under-served market.”

“Family-friendly entertainment remains an important segment of the industry, and merging these two entities will create the greatest opportunity to achieve more scale for Pure Flix as it continues to build its subscriber base,” said Ravi Ahuja, Chairman of Global Television Studios and Corporate Development for Sony Pictures. “Bill and the Great American Media team have been successfully leading the Great American Family and Great American Living brands, and we believe they have a winning plan to take Pure Flix to even greater heights.”

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

SPT acquired Pure Flix in December 2020. The service provides faith and family-friendly movies and TV series to its ~1M subscribers in the U.S. and Canada.

Featuring original Christmas movies, rom-coms and classic series that celebrate faith, family and country, Great American Family is currently in ~50M homes and is carried by all major cable providers. Great American Family recently closed out First Quarter 2023 as the fastest-growing network on TV for the second consecutive quarter.

🎬 ♪ Movie Review: My Take on "Just Jake" - the UPtv Movie Starring Brittany Bristow and Rob Mayes 🎸♪ SEE HERE ►►

I recently had the pleasure of screening the charming, new romantic comedy, "Just Jake," which will premiere on UPtv this month on Sunday, May 21st.

I’ll give you a basic synopsis of the movie below, starring Brittany Bristow (Christmas Next Door, A Royal Seaside Romance) and Rob Mayes (Sweet on You, 5,000 Blankets); plus, I'll share my take on "Just Jake" - with (I'll do my best) no spoilers!

Story details...

Jake (Rob Mayes) left town years ago to pursue his singing career, while Amber (Brittany Bristow), his first love, remained in their hometown and built her life around her family and community while running her own coffee shop and teaching guitar.

When Jake has some trouble with his recording label and has no one to turn to in the big city, his best friend since childhood and manager, Tommy, brings him back to their hometown. The question is… can one truly come home again?

Amber's family and most of the people in their small town are warm and welcoming to Jake. You can easily see they are a close-knit family and community that loves God and reaching out to others in need. Amber attempts to welcome Jake back, as well, while trying to guard her heart, that may still be broken.

Even though some of the townspeople are fans who are fixated on Jake’s fame and popularity, you can still feel the love of old friends and their hometown pride in their small-town boy who has become famous in the country music industry.

My take...

Brittany Bristow portrays the likable girl-next-door sort of character so well, while Rob Mayes is well-suited for the role of the withdrawn country music star who is gradually acclimating himself back into small-town life and being surrounded by friends who truly care about him.

From singing to guitar playing, all of the music in the movie, Just Jake, is fantastic, including country, gospel, and a show tune! And while most of the singing is focused on Jake, who has a soothing, soulful country voice, my favorite musical moment in the movie is a scene where Amber (Brittany Bristow) sings alone. I don’t want to spoil anything, so I’ll just say… it is a beautiful, heartfelt song of faith that marks a pivotal turning point in the hearts of both Amber and Jake, who are learning to trust again.

There’s also a fun talent show near the film’s end that is filled with delightful surprises. You may also recognize some familiar faces in the church/audience scenes, including Producer Brian Bird (“When Calls the Heart” and “When Hope Calls”), who is one of the producers of this film.

“Just Jake” was filmed at a coffee shop called Coff33, Valor Christian High School, Novo Barbers, Plum Creek Church, and other locations in Colorado. This movie is a wonderful addition, in my opinion, to the True Brand Entertainment family of films, which includes “The Engagement Plot” and “The Happy Camper.”

By the movie's end, I only wish we could’ve heard Jake (Rob Mayes) perform even more songs. He and Brittany Bristow are wonderful in their roles; they have such a natural, genuine chemistry together on screen. It was also easy to see their authentic love of music in real-life shine through.

As the credits roll, your spirit will surely be uplifted, as mine was, and the movie may leave you humming a tune or two.

“Just Jake” is an inspirational, family-friendly film all ages can enjoy!

Where you can watch “Just Jake”:

You can currently stream “Just Jake” on UP Faith & Family.

“Just Jake” will premiere on TV - Sunday, May 21, 2023, at 7pm/6c, on UPtv.

There are also encore airings of “Just Jake” on UPtv - Sunday, May 21st, at 11pm/10c and Sunday, May 28th at 3pm/2c.

Happy movie-watching, everyone!

Blue Ridge, the TV Series, Starring Johnathon Schaech and Sarah Lancaster

Immagicomm Entertainment previously announced they would be creating a new series titled Blue Ridge, which is a follow-up to their original movie of the same name.

The film Blue Ridge first premiered on the INSP network on March 13, 2021, and starred Johnathon Schaech (That Thing You Do!) as Sheriff Justin Wise and Sarah Lancaster (Christmas in the Smokies, Along Came a Nanny, Fir Crazy) as Justin's ex-wife, Ellie. Taegen Burns (I Can Only Imagine), pictured above with Johnathon and Sarah, portrayed their daughter, Maddie. All three have returned for the Blue Ridge series, which is currently filming in North Carolina.

Due to some fairly obvious messages on social media, there's also buzz that Erin Cahill (A Timeless Christmas, Christmas on the Range) has joined the Blue Ridge cast.

First, Johnathon Schaech posted a long message on Instagram which included the comment, "Can't wait for everyone to see #BlueRidgeTV"

Erin Cahill responded with, "Cannot wait! So so so excited!! ♥️"

Then Johnathon replied, "Can't wait to have you in #BlueRidgeTv"

This would not be the first time Erin Cahill has worked with Immagicomm Entertainment. She starred in their holiday movie, Christmas on the Range, back in 2019. I had the joy of interviewing Erin then for that movie project.

Actor Bruce Boxleitner (Cedar Cove, Matchmaker Mysteries, Holiday Date) has also been pictured on set during filming. This image of him and Actor A Martinez (Longmire) makes one wonder if these two may portray rivals in the Blue Ridge series. A Martinez also previously starred in Christmas on the Range with Erin Cahill. It all comes full circle, doesn't it?

Immagicomm Entertainment will have even more details on this project soon. Until then, I've included their previous press release below.

Great American Family Announces NEW MOVIES (including CHRISTMAS!) starring SUSIE ABROMEIT

image via: Nicely Entertainment

Actress Susie Abromeit (Love in Bloom, A Hot Cocoa Christmas, Snow Bride) gushes with excitement as she shares Three NEW Movie Projects coming to Great American Family in an interview with Bill Abbott (CEO of Great American Media) and Bob Gunia (President & CEO of Physicians Mutual).

The three new movies starring Susie Abromeit include:

* Romance in the Vineyard

* Designing Christmas (working title)

* Unknown Movie Title (filming soon in Australia)

You can watch the full interview here:
(Note: Video may take a few seconds to a minute to load - depending on your connection speed)

image via: Nicely Entertainment

Romance in the Vineyard (from Nicely Entertainment) stars Susie Abromeit with Tim Ross, who you may recall from the Hallmark Channel movie, Hearts Down Under. Both movies were filmed in Australia.

Synopsis of Romance in the Vineyard via Nicely Entertainment: Spirited and hardworking Allee has devoted her life to preserving her family’s award-winning vineyard. The business has recently fallen on hard times, barely fending off conglomerate Wine Inc’s endeavors to take over the vineyard. Upon discovering that their renowned Pinot Noir stock has been lost, jeopardizing a national distribution deal, Allee sets out to create a new wine blend in secret. Meanwhile, Wine Inc’s charismatic rep, Ethan, is sent out on an undercover mission to convince Allee to sell. An unexpected romance blossoms between the two, but will the reveal of Ethan’s true identity threaten their chance at love?

Designing Christmas (working title) is an upcoming Christmas movie project for Great American Family starring Susie Abromeit, who will be working with the same creative team behind the movie Romance in the Vineyard (A.K.A. Love by the Glass). In this new Christmas film, Susie will portray a woman who will take on the task of designing a home left to her by her late grandmother.

We know very little about the Unknown Movie Title filming soon in Australia. It is currently winter in Australia, so perhaps this new rom-com will have a snowy, cold winter-theme.

If you haven't seen Susie Abromeit in her previous Great American Family films, Love in Bloom or A Hot Cocoa Christmas, I highly recommend both family-friendly movies. I simply adore them both! There's just something extra special and beautiful about the heartwarming romantic comedy Love in Bloom. The chemistry between the two leads is off the charts, and the supporting cast is fantastic, as well. A Hot Cocoa Christmas is visually spectacular with the amazing Christmas decorations, and Hailey and Claude's lighthearted love story always captures my heart.

I know many of us will look forward to hearing even more details about these new movies starring Susie Abromeit for Great American Family. Until then, there could be changes and updates, so please stay tuned.

Happy movie-watching!
