  8. Rupert Penry-Jones is a very good actor. I saw him the first time in Whitechapel, and he is currently starring in the series The Strain on FX. Neither are family-fare shows, but he is talented as he can play all kinds of roles. Hope he stars in more Hallmark movies in the future.

    1. How funny! I LOVED "A Royal Christmas".....it's in my top 5 list for Hallmark Christmas movies, past and current, hands down.

I was SO disappointed with "Once Upon A Holiday!" Soooo disappointed! I was really looking forward to it, too, because I liked another Christmas movie the lead female character did a few years ago. However, this "Once Upon A Holiday" movie sucked! The movement of the story just dragged on and didn't seem to go anywhere the entire 2 hours. I just didn't get it!

On the other hand, I was actually surprised that I made it through one of Danica McKellar's movies! I honestly didn't think I would be able to sit through it because I just haven't been a fan of her adult acting roles (LOVED "The Wonder Years," though.), but 5-10 minutes into "Crown for Christmas" and I wasn't bored, so that was a good sign right there! Lol. It doesn't go down as a favorite of mine, and it's not a movie I loved, but I liked it well enough. It was watchable.

    2. A Crown for Christmas is by far the best Hallmark Christmas movie I've seen in a while. The acting felt so sincere and natural, especially that of Danica McKellar and Rupert Penry-Jones. I can be very critical of the "knight in shining armor/Cinderella" genre, but this " A Crown for Christmas" was definitely above reproach. I absolutely loved the movie!!

I had just watched it last night before I read your post. I had turned it way up to hear...still couldn't figure it out. lol I guess that when she had bumped into the king in the hotel hall that she had offered to him sewing kits among the other things like soaps and whatever. :) I will have to listen better to that part next time. 18. I love Hallmark movies but in "Crown for Christmas" Danica's expression with the wrinkled forehead is like she is always puzzled. When she enters the ballroom is an example and many other shots in the movie have the same puzzled look. For some reason it really bothered me but I do think she is a good actress.

  20. There are pictures here of Danica dressed as Mrs. Claus along with Santa. I don't recall seeing those scenes. Did they edit those scenes out or did I just dose off during this bit? (Hey, when I watch these late at night... :-)

  22. Definitely the best Hallmark movie of the year. ....Danika sets a new standard for touching movies!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I love Christmas movies and this one is just as good as the others. What really bothered me was the fact they opted for cheap CGI rather than place them in actual rooms. It's so obvious that it cheapens the movie. Just watch the scene when dinner is brought to her room the first time.

If CGI is a must or a cheaper way to do something, make sure it actually looks real.

  24. Thank you Hallmark for another wonderful Christmas movie. Crown for Christmas was such a wonderful romantic an uplifting movie. It was perfectly casted and written and directed in a way that you could actually get lost in the moment.

  25. Why did the king say "you had me at the sewing kit " to allie? What does that mean?

    1. She offered him a sewing kit when she hit him with the cart at the hotel in the beginning of the movie.

      Delete
    2. To "make up to him" for bumping into him she gives him chocolates from her cart, then soap, finally a sewing kit. The butler see's the King's unusual reaction to this incident and the way the King watches Allie walk away. Probably one reason he butler hires Allie as governess.

  27. What did the king say to Allie in the greenhouse?

  28. Crown for Christmas was one of the better movies on Hallmark but it left us hanging as most movies do today. I did not hear the King propose to her, he said he could not marry someone he didn't love and that the throne could survive a girl from Brooklyn that is not a proposal. I would like to see a sequel to this movie showing an actual proposal and the daughter helping Allie training to become Queen. Make it a true fairy tale story. In a Princess for Christmas and A Royal Christmas we saw them get married in the end and have to assume all is well. We didn't see them training to become Princesses. I really wish they would end movies better than they do.

  31. As others have said, it's hard to imagine it ending at Happily Ever After if there is a big responsibility ahead. That's why I like watching the Prince and Me movies. Same principle, but you get to watch her kind of grow into the role. They're fluffy, sure, but fun, and you get more of the story. :)

  32. Great movie, the best so far...waiting for a sequel for sure.

  33. Loved the movie. Especially Teddy. I love Hallmark for putting "uplifting programs" and this one hit the mark. It could be a great show on how these characters adjust.......Max to finding love again and being King, but more importantly....a father, and beau. Teddy getting a real relationship with her father and a NEW YORKER as a possible parent, and Allie, finding in love worlds away from her home, adjusting to royal life, and the possibility of being more than a governess to Teddy. I hope Hallmark does at least a follow up........these were fun characters to watch.....

It's mentioned above in the comments (see Anonymous, from December 7th) ^^^. You're almost right -- he says "...you had me at sewing kit," because she handed him a sewing kit when she first bumped into him in the hotel.

    2. You handed me a sewing kit. ( when they bumped into one another ( Danica - Ellie & Rupert - King Max.)

"You handed me a sewing kit" is not correct.

He says "You had me at sewing kit." It's an homage/tip of the hat to the famous, often quoted line from the movie "Jerry Maguire," which Renee Zellweger says to Tom Cruise: "You had me at hello." She meant that she was his -- he won her over -- as soon as he said "hello."

The King means that Danica's character won him over -- he was hers -- as soon as she said "sewing kit."

  47. I bought the DVD in December and have been watching it since. Love Rupert Penry-Jones and thought he was great, also loved Ellie, she did a great job and I loved when he picked her up while they were dancing. So cute. Didn't realize Danica was the girl in Wonder Years until I read it above. The only thing the I couldn't get used to were her eyelashes. A little overkill. I will also be hoping for a sequel or at least offer Rupert more roles in the U.S. movies.

  50. Watched this movie because of Rupert Penry-Jones, will watch anything he's in. Having said that, I think this had some of the worst production values of a TV movie I have ever seen and doubt very seriously he'll be interested in doing anything else from those producers or Hallmark in general. He certainly hasn't publicized Crown for Christmas, unlike everything else he is in, and I can see why.

  58. My all-time favorite Hallmark or any other studio movie. Everything done so well, writers Damian and Dobrofsky did a great job as did Alex Zamm, & the background music was terrific. Just one question: what is it that Chancellor Riggs says to Lady Celia when they're going back inside to avoid the snowball fight? Sounds like, "Let's begin," or Let's go in," but they're already trying to find a way to get rid of Allie ...
