January seems to be flying by fairly quickly, but before it does, I wanted to get started on my 2024 DVD post. I've had some of these DVD releases previously mentioned in my side column or tacked onto the 2023 DVD post, but I wanted to be sure to group them all here in the same place.

ReplyDeleteKathy, I sure hope they will release "A Biltmore Christmas" with subtitles for you and others. If it is released on DVD, we most likely won't see it become available for pre-order at Amazon, Walmart, etc... until late Summer/early Fall. That's when the Christmas movies from the previous season generally arrive for pre-order.

Hallmark movies didn’t have closed captions/Subtitles
I can’t buy Hallmark movies without closed captions for hearing impaired & deaf but if Hallmark movies have closed captions so, I will buy
I think that I see English Subtitles in a Hallmark movie on DVD. Did you see the menu when you load a Hallmark Channel DVD?

Try Amazon Prime/Freevee if you have it. They have both movies.
DeleteKathy and Anonymous, this may not be the case 100% of the time, but it seems to me that the newer (those issued within the last few years) single-movie Hallmark releases are subtitled. Those issued a few years before that had close-captioning but not subtitles. And ones older than that had neither.
ReplyDeleteBut that is not the case with the multi-movie releases. Many of those have no subtitles or close-captioning, especially if they were not manufactured in this country. For example, there are a lot of 3-movie Hallmark releases that come in a white cover except for the pictures of the 3 movies. Those are manufactured in Australia (although playable here) and do not have subtitles or close-captioning.
I really hope GAF starts releasing their movies on dvd again. I’m wondering g if sales weren’t very good for the first ones they released? It’s been awhile since they released any of their movies. I would love to get A Harvest Homecoming on dvd. Here’s to hoping!! Thank you for doing this list again!!

DeleteI also recently saw both of these movies appear on Amazon’s site for pre-order on DVD. I realize many enjoyed the movie, “3 Bed, 2 Bath, 1 Ghost,” and the promos did seem cute, but for me, personally, I decided not to watch this movie or “Betty’s Bad Luck in Love” because the Bible warns us against becoming involved with the paranormal world, seeking out mediums, etc.
The entertainment industry has often portrayed ghosts as being friendly, like “Casper, the Friendly Ghost” and “Scooby Doo,” and others. In fact, I watched both cartoon shows as a child and at the time, thought they were very innocent; however, I’ve learned through the years, that the Bible is very clear on the fact that when people die, they do not return to this earth as ghosts. They do not have a choice to return to earth to haunt people. Instead, those who have perished must face God and Judgment Day. From there, they will enter either heaven or hell, based on their salvation decision, to either accept or deny Christ.
So, are ghosts real? According to God’s Word, there are no such things as ghosts, but there are demons.
Christianity.com warns us, “demons are known to masquerade themselves in an attempt to fool people. Since demons can masquerade as angels of light, it is completely possible that they can make themselves look like dead loved ones. Believers need to be aware of this as demons will try to trick us in any way they can.”
I hope you can understand my decision to not share either of these films. Please know- I always appreciate you and your thoughtful suggestions.

Pre ordered and bought quiet a few of these :) but still hoping some of the older ones get released to dvd like Sandra Browns White Hot, Finding Love in Mountain View, Adventures in Love and Babysitting, Bad Date Chronicles, Recipe for Love, Elevator Girl, Cut Color Murder, Redemption in Cherry Springs, and Freshman Father.

It's nice to see these movies finally released on DVD. Kind of interesting point - both movies are from 2022.
DeleteI was wondering if anyone else has noticed the lack of movies being released for sale on DVD. If you look at the back of the recently released Hallmark movies, they are DVD-R movies. The mass produced movies have a marking on the back of the dvd case that says DVD over an eliptical white shape and the word Video under the eliptical. The recently released movies have the letters DVD in a white box. The bottom of the box is black with the words Video Discs and the next line says DVD-R Format (really small letters--almost not there). This marking is used for videos that are called MOD version (Made on Demand). A MOD movie is when the production company has a set of standards that must be met. If those standards are met, the production company issues a license to a company or individual which permits them to produce and sell a specified amount of a certain titled movie. The license allows license owner to post the video for sell on-line. The video is made by that person or company and then mailed to the buyer. The format is known as a DVD-R and as far as I can tell, it does not play on all platforms. Some stores are announcing that they will stop selling DVD within a year. I am wondering if we will have to purchase electronic copies of the movies and stream them through some service like Amazon Prime who sells a lot of the Hallmark movies. Extremely sad DVD lover!!!!! What are your thoughts? Has anyone else heard differently. I heard from an employee that he will be reassigned to another department withing the year due to DVD's no longer going to be sold.
