Friday, October 24, 2025:

Season 1, Episodes 3 and 4:

Peril of the Belles - Part 1
After a string of suspicious accidents, Emily goes undercover in the local choir to investigate. Sam, however, remains skeptical. Violet takes on more responsibility at the shop.

Peril of the Belles - Part 2
When the choir attacks escalate, Emily and Sam grow closer as they work together to find the culprit. Emily helps Violet out of a precarious situation by tapping into her dark past.

Review:

πŸŽ„ Mistletoe Murders – (episode 3&4) Each murder mystery in The Mistletoe Murders series are written to cover 2 episodes, so it’s basically like watching a movie. The 3rd and 4th episodes were mostly family-friendly for a show that revolves around murder. These types of shows are best suited for pre-teen age and up.

Cautions: A woman who was killed in a car “accident,” was thought to be having an affair with a man who is in the local choir. This same man is questioned by Emily (Sarah Drew’s character), and when she asks if he was involved with her, he says something like, "She’s not my type," and Emily says, "Blonde?" and he simply says, "Woman." Nothing else is said, but we get the point. There is another murder near the end of the 4th episode.

Overall, I love the sweet relationship between Emily and Sam, and his teenage daughter, who is a breath of fresh air. The Christmas shop is darling, and it was nice to hear the choir sing Christmas carols in these episodes. ~Net

But Ted's relentless optimism is about to be put to the test as he is faced with a litany of injuries and obstacles when he travels back to his hometown of Lackawanna, N.Y., for the holidays. Within hours of arriving at his sister Kate's house, he finds himself making a trip to Urgent Care after falling off a ladder while hanging decorations. While there, he runs into Ruth Mittens, his former high school science teacher, who was always his cheerleader. He also reconnects with the charming Hope Miller (Sustad), except now she's Dr. Hope Miller, with whom he went to high school and quietly crushed on from afar. Ted is optimistic that this budding romance is the beginning of his Christmas comeback, but his looming holiday bad luck still has a few curveballs in store for him. Luckily for Ted, he won't have to face them alone – he'll have the support of Kate, Ruth, and Hope to help him overcome the challenges thrown his way and finally enjoy a well-earned merry Christmas."

*Two back-to-back episodes!

Reviews:
(*Note: The reviews below are from those of us who streamed this series last Christmas on Hallmark+)

πŸŽ„ Mistletoe Murders is family friendly (1st episode) and liking it so far. -Elizbeth

πŸŽ„ Mistletoe Murders - Okay, so I decided to get Hallmark+ for the Christmas season. I’ve watched the first two episodes of “Mistletoe Murders,” and it is a cozy sort of mystery.

Sarah Drew (“Guiding Emily”) is the lead and she is good in this genre. Her character, Emily Lane, owns and runs a Christmas shop, but she also has a covert mysterious past.

The show has a sort of “Murder, She Baked” vibe to it with all the community involvement in Fletcher’s Grove, and Emily has two adorable cats. Sarah Drew’s opposite is Peter Mooney (“Fly Away with Me”), who plays local police officer, Sam Wilner. He is a single divorced father with a daughter in high school, who also works with Emily at her Christmas shop.

I won’t give any of the mystery away, but one of the suspects is an unmarried pregnant woman. There is some mystery as to who the father is of her unborn baby. Another male suspect is referred to as her (and I quote) “Baby Daddy.” Due to that and some violence centered around the murder, the episodes are best-suited for a mature audience.

Thus far, “Mistletoe Murders” is an intriguing mystery series. ~Net

πŸŽ„ I’ve been watching the Mistletoe Murders Mystery series and so far it’s pretty good. I just finished the first half of episode 2 and so far it’s been family friendly. ~Abigail

πŸŽ„ So I started a 7 day free trial of Hallmark + last night because I wanted to watch the Mistletoe Murders and I watched the first movie (episode 1 &2 as it breaks it up into 2 episodes I don’t know why) and it was surprisingly good! I personally don’t care for Sarah Drew, never cared for any of the movies she did, but this one surprised me! I think she was good in the sleuthing role and I’m excited to watch the other 2 mistletoe Murder movies. The only thing I don’t care for is how she narrates in the movie. I’m okay with that in the beginning to set the stage but she does it throughout the entire movie and it is kind of distracting to my own thoughts when I watch a mystery movie. I want to dissect it in my own mind and her narration is distracting. ~Paula

SHINING THE LIGHT
OF CHRISTMAS

Christ Born of Mary

"Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.

Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly.

But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.

And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”

So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying:

“Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.” "

Hallmark Announces "Mistletoe Murders" Season 2

Even though Production Weekly had already revealed the news about the new season, Hallmark has officially confirmed it today through Deadline.

Mistletoe Murders is coming back for Season 2.

The series stars Sarah Drew as Emily Lane, a small-town Christmas shop owner with a secret, mysterious dark past, along with Peter Mooney as local detective Sam Wilner and Sierra Marilyn Riley as his teenaged daughter Violet.

The first season of Mistletoe Murders premiered on Hallmark's streaming source, Hallmark+.

More details via Deadline: "Mistletoe Murders follows Emily, the optimistic shop owner of a year-round Christmas-themed store, Under the Mistletoe. Residing in the tourist town of Fletcher’s Grove, Emily finds herself compelled to investigate local murders. When Emily begins her personal investigations, Detective Sam Wilner (Mooney) begins to wonder if there’s more to Emily than meets the eye."

According to the article, the new season will air during this upcoming 2025 holiday season, and like the first season, the second season will also air on Hallmark+.

My personal take on the series:

If you love mysteries, this series is probably right up your alley! On the other hand, if you lean more towards cheerful holiday films, you might want to pass on this. While the mysteries aren't overly graphic, the hunt for a killer doesn't exactly create a festive atmosphere. In general, these murder mysteries are more appropriate for pre-teens and older.

Each of the mysteries that revolve around the tight knit community of Fletcher Grove are unique and interesting and almost always revolve around something holiday related. Sarah Drew is great as the lead, and I found myself intrigued by each mystery.

A word of caution: There is a passionate kiss at the end of the series and in the last episode, there is some mild language. One character also mentions briefly in a round-about-way that he is gay.

You can see more reviews for the first season of this series from myself, Elizbeth, Abigail, and Paula on the Christmas Movie Review Page. (Be sure to scroll down to nearly the end of the list to the Streaming Section.)

I hope all of you Sleuthers enjoyed this news!

Happy Sleuthing!

Residing in the quaint tourist town of Fletcher’s Grove, Emily finds herself compelled to investigate not-so-quaint local murders. And when Emily begins her personal investigations, Detective Sam Wilner (Peter Mooney), a smart local cop – with a crush on Emily that is not completely unrequited – begins to wonder if there’s more to Emily than meets the eye."

I know many are wondering if this series will also air on Hallmark Mystery. I personally think that "Mistletoe Murders" will likely have a later premiere date on the network, but we will have to wait and see. Since both Hallmark+ and Hallmark Mystery shared the news, perhaps that is a clue!

πŸ”ŽActress Sarah Drew to Star in New Hallmark Christmas Mystery SeriesπŸ”Ž

Hallmark Media announces a new Christmas-themed mystery series, Mistletoe Murders, starring Actress Sarah Drew, who will also serve as Executive Producer on this project.

See when and where you can watch Mistletoe Murders in my update at the end of this post.

According to Deadline, who made this announcement, "Drew has been cast as Emily Lane in Mistletoe Murders, which is based on the Audible global hit podcast of the same name. Emily is described as smart, tough, and observant, but also kind, empathetic, and charming with a great — albeit dry — sense of humor."

Hallmark Media also released this story synopsis: "When Emily isn’t busy running her charming small-town Christmas-themed store, “Under the Mistletoe,” she finds herself compelled to investigate local murders with the help of a handsome local police detective and his teen daughter. On the surface, Emily is a perfectly lovely, good-natured mystery lover – but she is hiding a secret past that, if exposed, threatens to destroy the new life she has built in Fletcher’s Grove."

Sarah Drew has a long resume of Hallmark movies that include Guiding Emily, Front of the Class, One Summer, Christmas in Vienna, and Branching Out, and a variety of films for other outlets, including the theater production, Mom's Night Out, Lifetime's Christmas Pen Pals, and more recently, Great American Pure Flix's Birthright Outlaw.

Sarah shared this movie news with her followers, using three smiling faces and clapping emojis and the caption, "SO excited!!!"

I'm also excited to hear this Christmas movie news and learn how Hallmark is incorporating the mystery genre into its upcoming holiday programming.

Stay tuned for more details,
