Hallmark has just released a new promo for "Hope Valley: 1874," the new prequel series to “When Calls the Heart,” starring Bethany Joy Lenz, Benjamin Ayres and Jill Hennessy! I also spotted the well-known actor Neal McDonough in the new preview.
The new series will begin streaming - March 21st exclusively on Hallmark+.
See the new promo and more details on the series from the Hallmark press release below. Plus, see my thoughts at the end of this post…
Hope Valley: 1874 - Promo:
New Episode Available to Stream Every Thursday Beginning March 26
Starring Bethany Joy Lenz, Benjamin Ayres and Jill Hennessy
BURBANK, CA – January 30, 2026 – Hallmark announced today that Hope Valley: 1874, the new prequel series to the beloved When Calls the Heart, will premiere Saturday, March 21, exclusively on Hallmark+, with a new episode premiering every Thursday beginning March 26. The network also unveiled a first look at the trailer for the eight-episode series, giving fans an exciting glimpse into the origins of the community that would one day become Hope Valley.
As previously announced, the series stars Bethany Joy Lenz (A Biltmore Christmas), Benjamin Ayres (The Santa Class), Jill Hennessy (City on a Hill), Roan Curtis (Firefly Lane) and Lachlan Quarmby (Providence Falls). Joining the ensemble are Jedidiah Goodacre (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) as Clayton Cooley, a ruggedly handsome blacksmith, Chelsea Hobbs (Deck the Halls on Cherry Lane) as Peggy McCabe, the wife of Tom’s (Ayres) foreman Nash as portrayed by Brad Abramenko (A Splash of Love).
Set in 1874, the series explores the earliest days of the frontier settlement that later became Hope Valley, chronicling the courage, resilience and relationships that laid the foundation for the close-knit town viewers have come to love. Lenz portrays Rebecca Clarke, who travels from her home city of Chicago to the Western Canadian frontier with her 11-year-old-daughter Sarah (Mila Morgan, The Holiday Sitter). But when her wagon breaks down, and she realizes the boardinghouse is not as advertised, Rebecca has no choice but to accept help from local rancher and confirmed bachelor, Tom Moore (Ayres). Despite her best intentions to remain unattached, Bella can't help but slowly fall for Tom and develop a friendship with tenacious pioneer woman Hattie Quinn (Hennessy). Hattie’s daughter Olivia (Curtis) helps run their trading post and catches the eye of Constable Alexander Vaughn (Quarmby), much to the dismay of Clayton (Goodacre), who harbors feelings for her.
Showcasing themes of perseverance and romance, this series explores the journey of a mother as she discovers a new chapter in her life as she helps forge what starts out as collection of isolated settlers into a small close-knit community during the rugged and hopeful Pioneer Era. This prequel to Hallmark’s historical drama series, When Calls the Heart, will take viewers back in time to follow the early settlers of the community that will one day become the beloved frontier town of Hope Valley.
Hope Valley: 1874 is from All Canadian Entertainment production company. Executive producers of the series include Brad Krevoy, Brian Bird, Michael Landon Jr., Amy Hartwick, Olivia Krevoy, Vicki Sotheran, Greg Malcolm, Alfonso Moreno and Susie Belzberg. Mike Rohl and Elizabeth Stewart are co-executive producers, and Jennifer Siddle and Melody Fox serve as consulting producers.
My Quick Take:
I’m absolutely loving this beautiful first look at Hope Valley: 1874. It truly captures the spirit of the pioneer era and truly feels like a step back in time. With When Calls the Heart now set in the 1920s and moving further away from the early American frontier, it’s especially heartwarming to see a new series that takes us back to those humble, hardworking pioneer days.
This glimpse of Hope Valley: 1874 is already giving me the same comforting, nostalgic feeling as classic shows like Little House on the Prairie, Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, Christy, Little Men, When Hope Calls, and of course, the early seasons of When Calls the Heart, along with Hallmark's Love Comes Softly films. There’s something so special about stories set in a simpler time, filled with resilience, faith, community, and hope.
Based on the promo, which highlights a close-knit community and everyday struggles of frontier life, I have a feeling this new series coming to Hallmark+ this spring will become another deeply beloved period drama.
I’d love to know what you think, too. Please share your thoughts in the comments below.

I saw a trailer of Hope Valley 1874

This is Elizbeth. I wanted to thank you all who prayed for my mother in law, Beverly.
ReplyDeleteSo we had a meeting on Thursday, and they said we had a couple days to decide to take her off the ventilator. They were waiting for her to wake up, but sadly she never did. That night the hospital called and said that She started losing blood and That we needed to go to the hospital.
The drs couldn’t do anything else for her. There was too much wrong with her and She got too weak. But she’s is in heaven now. I thank God for that. Elizbeth
Elizbeth, Oh, honey... I'm so sorry to hear your news about Beverly. The way you so loving spoke of your mother-n-law made it clear that she was a warm, God-fearing woman. I will pray for peace and comfort for you and your family now during this difficult time. God be with you all.
DeleteSo sorry for your loss, Elizbeth. I hope you all find comfort in knowing you’ll see her again one day. Christie
DeleteElizbeth, I wish I could give you a hug right now. I will be praying for you and your family. How wonderful to have assurance that Beverly put her trust in our Savior and to know she’s with Christ glorifying His name. But even with that blessing, I know it’s still difficult and you’re grieving. Praying you will feel the love of God during this difficult time and find peace in knowing that you’ll see her again.
DeleteElizabeth, so sad to hear this. I know this is not the outcome you wanted but she is now in the presence of God and yes like you said, that is something to be thankful for in all of this. Praying for peace for your family!
Delete~Paula
Elizabeth, so sorry about your mother in law. Rejoice in the fact she is no longer in pain and she is with our heavenly Father!
DeleteElizabeth, honey I am so very Sorry for your loss of Beverly 🥹
DeleteI and my Church Prayer Chain started Praying for Her and You, your Husband and All that loved her, for God to Surround you all with His love, grace, comfort and peace.
As hard as it is asking God for Healing, yet knowing that:
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean Not unto thine own understanding-
In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths- Proverbs 3:5-6
It's all in God's Hands -
Now so is your sweet Mother-in-law.
What a Precious Daughter-in-law you are💞💞
I'm a Caregiver, so I know the road of loss well, Continued prayers and Comfort for You and Yours!!
Hope Valley 1874 looks even better than I expected. It really reminds me of all the shows you spoke of Net, especially Little House & Dr Quinn. With this coming it makes me wonder what will happen to WCTH. Christie
ReplyDeleteThis sounds good, but the major problem with this is that I don’t have Hallmark+. I wish it was going to be on the Hallmark Channel.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, in a few months, they will play it on Hallmark and call it new. I always wanted to watch Mistletoe Murders and didn't really think of it when they put it "only on +" and then one day I see it will be on Hallmark at Christmas. Same thing with Chicken sisters.
DeleteThey do not really have any shows other than that dumb time travel show, so once that is done, they will play 1874 and call it new.

Check if your library offers access to hallmark+ on hoopla! Mine does! I can use it free for 7 days at a time🤍
DeleteThat’s how I watch it and after the 7 days I borrow it again! And again! :)
DeleteFor those not familiar with Hoopla, it’s an online Library service. It’s free if your hometown/county offers it. You are allowed 12 borrows per month. Hallmark+ is available as a Bingepass(which lasts for 7 days with 1 borrow). For me I make sure to set aside 4-5 borrows so I can always re-borrow Hallmark for the whole month. And so on. Completely free.
ReplyDeleteElizbeth, I too am so sorry to hear about Beverly. May you find solace in knowing that she is now in the arms of our Father in heaven. My prayers are going out to you and your family.
Mark🤗
DeleteIn many posts before, I have thought, You & I could be kindred spirits.
Thank you for sharing your love of Classic movies, yes Cary Grant is a favorite, Jimmy Stewart is my Favorite Actor of All time !!
I watched parts if not all of-
It's a Wonderful Life
well over 50 times in the last few months 🥰
Along with -
It Happened on Fifth Avenue
Christmas in Connecticut
White Christmas
(Gotta be Bing Crosby singing it)
In the Good old Summertime
( Maybe only movie that replaced Jimmy that I was Ok with)
I will make myself Stop, Lord knows I could go on😂
Oh- The Philadelphia Story, top 10 of all time(Secular movies)
What a cast!!
Then the remake, 16 years later with Sinatra♥️, Bing, Grace Kelly & Louis Armstrong, etc..
High Society!
I am still in disbelief from the 1st time Robert Osborne (How I miss him🥹) told us viewers that when:
Bringing up Baby-
Came out it was considered Box office poison for Katherine Hepburn, What😳🤪
Same for, It's a Wonderful Life-
It just sounds Crazy!!
Since Robert passed in 2017, just a month before my Mom💞
TCM has changed drastically in my humble opinion.
I'm Old, born in 66, but I don't want to see lots of movies on a Classic channel, that have been made during my life time!
Back to Mr. Grant, I love the ones you mentioned,
His Girl Friday
My Favorite Wife
North by Northwest
Masterclasses in Acting!!
Thank you Net♥️ for this Amazing blog!
Thank you again Mark for sharing in my favorite
escapes, I had on
Casablanca in the background!
Here's looking at you Kid😉
Love your response, Kathy! And Jimmy Stewart is right up there with Cary Grant as my all-time favorite actor. My favorite movie of Jimmy's, along with It's a Wonderful Life, is Mr. Smith Goes to Washington - that performance of his in that movie is simply the best ever! (And one of my favorite actresses is Jean Arthur.) It's a shame, but it's so true...they just don't make them like they used to!
DeleteMark
Kathy & Mark,
DeleteOh my... you both named sooooo many that I love, too!!! Jimmy Stewart - favorite, as well!!! And I also adore Cary Grant, Doris Day, William Holden, Bing Crosby, Mickey Rooney, Judy Garland, and on and on...
The Christmas classics you mentioned, Kathy, are a must-see for me, too, every year... It's a Wonderful Life, It Happened on Fifth Avenue, Christmas in Connecticut, White Christmas, & In the Good ole Summertime! I also have to see Miracle on 34th Street, Meet Me in St. Louis, Holiday Inn, and Love Finds Andy Hardy! So many good ones! I'm always amazed with the Andy Hardy movie at how different times are now from then.
And Mark... I also love Jimmy Stewart in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, plus Rear Window and The Man Who Knew Too Much! The pairing of Jimmy with Doris Day, along with a mystery, is pure perfection!
Now I feel like I need to pop some popcorn and turn on an old black & white! :)
Net and Kathy, yes, those Christmas classics you mention are definitely must-sees. Another one, which is kind of under the radar but Net I know you love it too, is Remember the Night with Barbara Stanwyck and Fred MacMurray. (The scenes at the farm are so touching and heart-warming!) It's perfect for late-night viewing on a snowy night. Kathy, if you haven't seen it, I soooo recommend it!
DeleteMark... Yeeesss!!! Love that one, too! Like you said... truly heartwarming! I only saw a couple minutes of it this Christmas, but just thinking of it now warms my heart all over again! :)
DeleteOoooh, sounds like a possibility for the February "Mark the 25th" movie! Late at night with a bowl of popcorn...
DeleteI have to say I’m having good thoughts about this. I’m glad to see Brian Bird and Michael Landon Jr. involved. I can’t wait to see this.
ReplyDeleteI also thought it would be fun to see one of the WCTH Hope Valley original residents play a part here, but play the older family member instead. For instance, Ned could play his father/grandfather.
Abigail, Love that idea! Very interesting! Maybe he could have a full beard or mustache just to look a little different. Or, are you familiar with Anne of Green Gables? He could have those long sideburns down the side of his face like Rachel Lyndes' husband.
DeleteYes, I am familiar with Anne of Green Gables. The Megan Fellows version. I think all of us Hearties would love to see a WCTH play an older relative and who better than Ned!!🤣
DeleteAbigail, I figured you'd know Anne of Green Gables!!!! And, yes... of course, the Megan Follows version. In mind, there's only the one. I mean, others have tried, but Megan's version, in my opinion, is truly the best!
DeleteAnd I love your idea of Ned, or someone else, portraying their ancestor. That would be so cool!!!!
Looks so good!
ReplyDeleteI am excited about this new series! Looks great!!
ReplyDeleteI saw the trailer during the ad breaks. While I admit it DOES look good, and could be a welcome addition to giving Hallmark more faith and hope representation, I just really don't know if I want to see it. (like, how do we know this won't be another show BB ruins by completely dividing the fanbase forever again??). -Maria
