NEW YORK, NY – April 19, 2022 – Christmas comes early to GAC Media as the company today announced that they have signed Candace Cameron Bure to develop, produce and star in movies and television across GAC Family and GAC Living. Bure will take on a prominent executive role at the company to oversee and curate programming for the networks as a whole. Additionally, through her Candy Rock Entertainment, she has agreed to develop and produce original content for GAC’s channels. Bure will also create year-round seasonal celebration content for the networks and play a key role in the company’s annual Great American Christmas franchise.
“Candace is adored by generations of fans as one of family entertainment’s most cherished and relatable stars,” said Bill Abbott, President & CEO of GAC Media. “She has helped build this genre into the mainstream success it is today, and I look forward to working together at GAC Media as we further establish our brands as leaders in quality family programming. I am truly honored that she has chosen to be a part of and help curate her special brand of family entertainment here at Great American Channels.”

Bure is the CEO of Candy Rock Enterprises; head of her own self-titled clothing and lifestyle brands; a prolific author and co-owner of Bure Family Wines. Bure is known for holiday romantic comedies where she is a perennial fan favorite, having starred in dozens of movies created in close partnership with Abbott. Bure starred in and executive produced one of television’s most successful mystery movie franchises, “Aurora Teagarden.” She competed on Dancing with the Stars in 2014 and was co-host of The View in 2015 and 2016. Fans first came to know Candace as D.J. Tanner in “Full House.” In 2016, Bure and her “Full House” co-stars reunited to create 75 episodes of “Fuller House.” Both of the classic sitcoms are currently airing on GAC Family.

My Take:
I am over-the-moon to hear this news today! Candace Cameron Bure is certain to be a wonderful fit for GAC Media, and I can't wait to see what's next - on GAC Family and GAC Living!!!
It appears the Queen of Hallmark Christmas movies is making her move! Check mate for GAC!
I'm happy to see this. Hallmark is so much more liberal now, this is a better fit for her. She made the right choice and God will bless her for it.
ReplyDeleteI hope Aurora doesn't stop, but it probably will now. Hopefully one day if more and more of our Hallmark beloved actor transfer to gac family, they can start a mystery channel. Ooooh, I hope so!π
Abigail, I agree wholeheartedly with everything you said. My sisters and I have been getting more and more disheartened with the turn that Hallmark has been making. I pray more of the actors and actresses will make the move to GAC.
DeleteBut many actors are woke! They push their agenda on social media, like Paul Campbell, Emilie Ullerup...
DeleteAnonymous, are there any other actors doing this? I am not on social media so I am not aware of these things.
DeleteAbigail, when I first read this, the Holy Spirit witnessed to me that Candace is doing a good thing. Maybe Candace had gotten the news Aurora was cancelled.
DeleteNikki DeLoach posts also very often a rainbow flag (for the lgbt community)
DeleteThis is fantastic news. Hallmark is hemorrhaging and they have no one to blame but themselves. You're terrific Net with the info, keep us updated.
ReplyDeleteWow, that is huge news! I think GAC is a better fit for her brand. Sad if this is the end of Aurora though.
ReplyDeleteAgree, Jennifer, this is huge! I'm also a little sad about Aurora. While the last one was good, it didn't feel like a final send off to me. At least they didn't leave us with a cliffhanger.
DeleteYAY!!!!! This is grrrrreeeeaaaat!!!!! How many exclamation marks can I use to express how happy I am!!!!!! I'm so happy for Candace and GAC!!!!! Congratulations to all involved!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI wonder what happen her new movies: A Summer Down Under when she & her family never been in Australia. If her movie is done: The Kite since Fall 2021 filming her movie.
ReplyDeleteThe lesbian movie on Hallmark had just 1.26 Mio viewers. Nobody wants to watch woke Hallmark anymore.
ReplyDeleteThis seriously couldn't have come at a better time. I don't know what is happening at Hallmark. All the woke content thrown in lately + why did they end the old mysteries we liked just to create new ones that are similar? Who wants to get involved with those now, knowing they could end them any time, even if the story isn't done, like Mystery 101.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what Candace does at GAC!
I'm real happy about this as well! And to add to this sweetness, the ratings are in for 'Classified': It did worse then 'Just One Kiss'!! :)))
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing her new movies at GAC. -Maria
But GAC doesn't have anything. Not one new movie in months. And they started showing Facts of Life reruns and then removed them. More Bewitched reruns--why? They don't even show their Christmas movies anymore.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree! If GAC really wanted to have a “replacement” station then they need to show movies! No one wants to watch the same shows over and over and over again. I do not understand this of them. We were all excited when we got the new station, but we never watch it because they don’t show any movies. We want movies GAC! And good ones!
DeleteWasn't expecting this although after recent developments perhaps I should have
ReplyDeleteSo it's now down to Lacey vs Candace which should be interesting since Lacey has been the better in the last couple of years although they both bombed with last year's Christmas offerings.
I am not happy with the direction Hallmark is going in now but I an saddened that the tone is becoming confrontational - Florence
I was encouraged to see Candace mention creating "faith-filled programming". We've had our fill of the typical rom-com, but would love to see movies with faith. Need more of that these days!
ReplyDeleteThere's a lot of that on UP and its streaming service, UP Faith and Family, and on BYU TV, if you happen to get those channels. If you "cut the cable" on Hallmark, perhaps you'll be able to afford UP's streaming service.
DeleteSo excited! I think GAC is taking its time to get people they want and new content wi probably start next year?
ReplyDeleteMisty
This is wonderful news! So happy to hear this! I understand what Florence is saying, but when we take a stand for Jesus, it becomes confrontational. It is good versus evil. I am thankful Candace made this move. I respect her even more now.
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful news for both!
ReplyDeleteWonderful news! Thank you Net for posting the press release
ReplyDeleteThis is indeed wonderful news!! I am also pleased to see that she will be an executive at GAC who will "oversee and curate programming as a whole". She so deserves this! Congratulations, Candace, and thank you Bill Abbott for taking this step! This is such a '+' for GAC and such a '-' for Hallmark!
ReplyDeleteSince Candace Cameron Bure signed with GAC Family, will Aurora Teagarden Mysteries be cancelled?
ReplyDeleteChris, It is looking that way, but it actually depends on who owns the rights to the series. When Hope Calls was able to move from Hallmark/Hallmark Movies Now to GAC, so it's possible that could happen with Aurora, as well, depending on other key factors... such as: would the main actors involved be willing to work on GAC? Does GAC wish to make mysteries? Only time will tell!
DeleteThis move does not surprise me one bit. Candace, by her own admission, is a conservative Christian, and she probably started becoming disaffected with Hallmark when they let former Crown Media CEO Bill Abbott go and brought in a new CEO to expand the audience to include the LBGTQIA+ community (and mixed-race couples in their movies to compete with Lifetime’s Christmas movies?), meanwhile losing a lot of viewers, many I’m sure among the responders to this post and, I’m told, about 200 members of the Hallmark movies Facebook group.
ReplyDeleteThe title of this announcement from TV Guide (based on the press release shared here) makes it sound like a clean break: “Candace Cameron Bure Departs Hallmark Channel for GAC Family Development Deal;” and from the article itself a huge promotion beyond just acting:
"She will take on a prominent executive role at GAC, overseeing and curating programming for the networks. In addition, she will develop and produce original content for GAC’s channels through her Candy Rock Entertainment. Bure will also continue her holiday content traditions, creating year-round seasonal celebration programming, as well as playing a key role in the company’s annual Great American Christmas franchise."
As for “…what this means for any future involvement for Candace with Hallmark,” I should think that it would depend on any leftover commitments she may have with them, which at this point, given the announcement, I think, would be none.
And as for the future of “the ‘Aurora Teagarden’ mystery series,” I should think that it would depend on whomever owns the movie rights, whether Candace (in which case she could bring the series with her) or Hallmark (in which case it would be up to them) or some third-party such as the author of the books.
I did not know about "The Kite" and have no idea about its future.
In short, I, too, am happy to see GAC Family developing more original programming and, as I’ve said here before, what about the rest of season 2 of "When Hope Calls" beyond last year’s Christmas two-parter?
This is interesting. At least they ended with the best Aurora ever. I’ve been saying for a long time that there were way too many of them, but the last one was really good. I will miss Sally and Aida. They were the funniest and my personal favorites of the series.
ReplyDeleteIt would be awesome if GAC would start making mystery films! I believe the majority of fans on this page watch them more than rom-coms or even Christmas movies. I would love for them to pick up the Garage Sale Mysteries along with the others mentioned already.
Yeah, that would be wonderful if they picked up Garage Sale Mysteries. And I bet the views would be super high!
DeleteWhen are we going to see NEW movies on GAC to compete with Hallmark??
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone that Hallmarks movies this year are not very good. Except for a few.
winningedge24, I know they are working hard at GAC behind-the-scenes to make this possible, but I haven't been given any news, yet, on when that will be. Hopefully soon! :)
DeleteWe do know they announced Christmas will begin on Saturday, October 29, 2022!
Taylor Cole just signed a deal with Hallmark.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's just me, but these deals seem a bit, unfair in a way. -Maria
Yeah, like the others, it's also exclusive. I had a feeling Hallmark would announce someone soon, too, after the Candace announcement on Tuesday. This one isn't a big surprise, so I don't think many people will notice. I just bet one of those movies won't be Ruby Herring, another mystery series ended before it's time.
DeleteSince we saw Taylor Cole signing a new contract with Hallmark will we see new Mysteries movies on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries with Taylor Cole?
DeleteChris, That's truly anyone's guess at this point. It's possible they could bring back Ruby Herring or create something new. It's so frustrating how they dropped so many of these mysteries early on, without finishing their main story.
DeleteIn a post, Candace Cameron Bure confirmed that she has signed a new overall deal with GAC Family. Intriguingly, this won’t necessarily mean she’ll completely exit Hallmark. Reports indicate her deal with GAC Family is for Christmas movies and more, but she may be able to continue with Aurora Teagarden movies on Hallmark’s sister channel Movies and Mysteries. On her Instagram, Bure simply confirmed reports, writing:
ReplyDeleteExcited to join the GAC TV and GAC Living πΊ family!
Generally, Candace Cameron Bure is all over Instagram Stories when there is big news, so this was a surprisingly short response about her big career shift. Regardless, she received a lot of support from some of her Hallmark and formerly Hallmark co-stars, including the aforementioned Chabert, who actually just signed a new deal with Hallmark. Thus it seems there are not hard feelings over the actress’ choice to try holiday movies elsewhere.
Meanwhile, a statement from Bure when the news was announced spoke about the “faith-based” programming the actress is hoping to produce for the network.
I’m very excited to develop heartwarming family and faith-filled programming and make the kind of stories my family and I love to watch. I am constantly looking for ways that I can inspire people to live life with purpose. GAC fits my brand perfectly; we share a vision of creating compelling wholesome content for an audience who wants to watch programming for and with the whole family. Great, quality entertainment with a positive message is what my partnership with GAC is all about!
Shop NowIn fact, two of the stars of Hallmark’s recent trio of films The Wedding Veil reached out, with Lacey Chabert noting “congratulations” and her co-star Alison Sweeney sending the abbreviated “congrats.” Intriguingly, some Hallmark defectors also commented, with Danica McKellar giving Candace Cameron Bure a warm welcome to the GAC fold, writing, “Yayayay!!!! Welcome to the family, my friend!!” And Jen Lilley sent some emojis along with the excited exclamation, “Ah!!!!!!”
So, it seems that even if there are a bunch of people leaving Hallmark For GAC (and that’s just the tip of the iceberg as Cindy Busby --who also commented with emojis -- has done a GAC movie, Cameron Mathison shifted over after his Hallmark show was canceled and so on and so forth, there’s still positivity even coming from the stars who are sticking with the original network. After all, if some of the mainstays leave Hallmark that will give some new names the chance to shine.
ReplyDeleteVariety posted that Aurora is cancelled. And Hallmark's quote in that Variety article clearly indicates they are wishing her well and have no intention of working with her going forward. Candace is an executive of GAC Media now, so it's not possible for her to continue to work for a competing network. That would not make much sense from a business perspective.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a smart move for her, the opportunity to have more control over content must have been too good to pass up. Hallmark doesn't seem to know what it is right now, and CCB seems like a woman who knows exactly who she is. GAC Media sounds like a great fit for her, and I hope it's a successful partnership.
ReplyDeleteHopefully with this move, it opens the door for Natasha Bure to be in movies with her mom too or possibly star in the movie instead.
ReplyDeleteIt also would be a way to go after the younger market also and possibly bring in millennials and Gen Z, to watch GAC too.
I've also wondered if Natasha might do a movie for GAC. Would love to see her star in her own movie, or co-star alongside her mom.
DeleteI watched “Wedding Cake Dreams”, is family friendly. When Carrie was 12 years old, her Mother tells her to put the wedding cake under the pillow about superstition will ensure her dream of her future true love - when that night, Carrie’s dream comes true is a handsome man meeting her at the altar.
