My Quick Take:
2024 is sure to be another heartwarming and cozy Christmas movie season with Great American Family's faith and family movies. I'm so excited to see so many of our favorite stars return to the network for their 4th annual Christmas movie event!
So many Great American Family Christmas movies are now on my must-see list, including A LITTLE WOMEN’S CHRISTMAS, SLEIGH BELLS AND SUGAR PLUMS, A VINTAGE CHRISTMAS, A CINDERELLA CHRISTMAS BALL, HOME SWEET CHRISTMAS, and more! I could go on and on...
I hope you find many delightful Christmas movies you are looking forward to seeing during this Christmas Season on Great American Family! Please share your thoughts in comments below...
I was hoping you would post this. I am excited about the movies but I can’t help but wonder if Great American Family is going to announce more movies. My reason is where is the Jen Lilley and a Nick Bateman movie and where is the Jessica Lowndes movie her contract was for 4 movies and she did not do 4 movies.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how come there isn't a new Paul Greene Christmas movie? The absence of Susie Abromeit might be understandable, because of the recent tragedies in her life. She might be taking a break to heal.
DeleteI'm thinking the same thing. Plus Parade's reporting on this said there was more then 20 movies. Just gotta wait and see. -Maria
DeleteAll contracts are up. They just didn't complete the four. The contract was about holding the talent for 2 yrs; unfortunately, they were unable or chose to use other actors for films instead of completing the 4. Jess, Jen, Trevor, Danica, & Susie's contracts were for 2 yrs & ended between last fall & this past winter. The only contracted actors now are Mario, Cameron, & Jillian Murray. Candace's deal with them is different, but she is producing her own films & they are acquiring them; not funding or developing in part. Jessica & Daniel's movie is filmed through a Canadian filmmaking grant alongside other funds raised--completely indie. It could go anywhere; possibly streaming only this year. I'm not sure about Jen's bc that is produced by MPCA (The Brad Krevoy team) & he was an initial investor for GAM, so not sure what's going on there. However, MPCA also still works with HM, (WCTH), & also makes films for streaming on Netflix, other networks, Paramount+ etc. I do think Susie is in a Hallmark movie this year. -Megan
DeleteMegan you are wrong. I checked all the Deadline articles no where does it say anything that the contract was about holding the talent for two years. The contract were all four pictures deals, Both Jen and Jessica still have two movies to do. Danica and Trevor both finished their contracts and still have new movies airing this Christmas. As far as Jessica and Daniel movie is was also produced by Robin Dunne who produced movies for GAC the last two year.. Susie her contract is up but Susie is dealing with something unexpected that happened to a family member.
DeleteAs I like to say, 'Smaller is better then it looks.'. I'm already feeling overwhelmed by the amount of Christmas movies that we'll be seeing everywhere, so a lighter lineup like this really helps.
ReplyDeleteI know there are those that only think 'high quality' means the most Christmas movies on any network, but that doesn't always mean greatness. Having a small lineup of movies that you know will be high quality beats a really huge lineup of movies that you have no idea will be good or worth re-watching until they premiere! (hello there, Hallmark!).
Plus, with last year's strikes, I think a decrease was expected. -Maria
Now, which ones am I most looking forward to? Well, obviously A Little Women's Christmas, of course! (posting all the wonderful BTS content on Twitter was so much fun!).
ReplyDeleteThere's also Danica's movie, Jill and Jesse's movie, Candace's movies of course, the Penavegas movie, and A Royal in paradise 2!
Whether you laugh at the small lineup, you can't deny that this is a very high quality lineup that you know is worth checking out, and won't give you severe burnout just before Thanksgiving!
-Maria
Also, less new movies to get through means more time for re-watches. Feels like there's less and less time each year for savoring the classics. We can't forget the amazing movies of the past! -Maria
ReplyDeleteI notice that a few of these are not originals and I have seen them in other places. I Have enjoyed them and feel like they are good watches.
ReplyDeleteCoupled up for Christmas? Finally!! Thank you for this news and this whole post.
ReplyDeleteBtw, don't understand why they always pair Erin (Agostino) up with so much taller actor.
it was cute. watched last year on Paramount+. -Megan
DeleteThank.you. interesting that they are airing older.movies. Looking forward to.many of.them.
ReplyDeleteMisty
Wow, only 16 new Christmas for Great American Family? That’s kind of surprising. I was thinking they were going to announce more. Could it be possible that they’ll add in more at a later date? Jill
ReplyDeleteI thought the press release said three more movies are to be announced, one for GAF and two on streaming. Did I read this wrong?!
DeleteThis news makes me so happy! Won’t be long now! I have lots of Christmas movies on my must see list from Great American Family like you, Net.
ReplyDeleteAwesome lineup, but it seems they keep announcing these things earlier and earlier every year.
ReplyDeleteI just watched Coupled Up for Christmas. I would skip it! The chemistry of the leads and a real winter setting were the only things that saved it. Her family was barely in it and it seemed like this was written for characters their early twenties. The writing was cringe at times. I really think GAF made a horrible mistake.
ReplyDeleteMisty
One I was really looking forward to but the movie doesn't live up to the premise.
DeleteOn the whole I agree with you but probably just about okay for a one time watch - Florence
Coupled Up for Christmas is available on streaming services; Freevee or Prime
DeleteI was happy to see Coupled up for Christmas made the schedule until I read the fine print. What the heck? It’s only going to air on Thanksgiving night? I was looking forward to catching this one throughout the holiday season, but I guess if you really want to see it, you’ve got at least one chance.
ReplyDeleteratings ploy for live watching is the only thing that makes sense unless there was a limited one airing window that was offered at a much lower rate for the acquisition?? odd.
DeleteI read it as a new premiere is TBA for Thanksgiving, not that Coupled Up For Christmas would be airing then. It also said World Premiere so I would hope it is something actually new and not a movie already streaming elsewhere.
DeleteThank you for providing this information. My wife and I appreciate the fine quality of entertainment we find on Great American Family. It’s nice to see Candace, Trevor, Jill, Danica, Jen Lilley, and others return, along with new faces, like the PenaVegas, to the channel. Robert
ReplyDeleteNice lineup, albeit it shorter than I was expecting. Where’s Susie Abromeit, Jessica Lowndes, Daniel Lissing, Paul Greene, Cindy Busby, Drew Seeley, Shae Robins, Chad Michael Murray, and Lori Loughlin?
ReplyDeleteCould there be more surprise announcements later on? Erin
Erin, That's very possible that there could be additions. GAF is known for surprising their viewers. "Christmas in Maple Hills" was added to their line-up last year around mid-November.
DeleteGAF is launching a premium version of Pure Flix:
ReplyDeletehttps://www.nexttv.com/news/great-american-media-launches-pure-flix-premium-product
-Maria
Maria, Yeah, that is very interesting news. I love having Pure Flix streaming already, but I wonder who will pay $14.99 MORE every month for these special interview videos with the economy like it is right now.
DeleteThe content sounds great, but I wish they could just give this to those who already subscribe to Pure Flix.
Is the Great American Community App not functioning anymore? I haven’t checked it for a while and went to check it a couple of times this week and keep getting errors.
DeleteGreat question! I just checked the app on my phone, and I'm getting this message:
DeleteGreat American Community
A server with the specified hostname could not be found.
Perhaps they took it down because of the premium version of Pure Flix coming. I hear others are getting the same error.
That’s the message I have been getting. It’s still available to download in the App Store so if it’s not available anymore they need to take it down. π
DeleteWow! Are you serious? That’s ridiculous to make us have something more. Pure flux barely works as it is. It’s always glitching and freezing up. Now they’re going to make us get premium if we want the extra content? I mean, having PureFlix is extra enough already. -Anonymous1
DeleteI wonder where Jen Lilleys 2nd movie will go then? I thought it would be GAF but it must be HM after all. Ugh. I like her staying with GAF. It seemed like a GAF director too.
ReplyDeleteAnd what about the Jessica Lowndes and Daniel Lissing? If that goes to HM, will they have 2 DL movies?
Sabrina
Sabrina, This puzzles me, too. Could they be holding them over to next year, or Christmas in July, 2025??? Or maybe they'll announce these two later on as a special surprise addition?
DeleteMaybe Jen or Jessica will give us some sort of clue. It is very curious at this point. Net
Net, I am curious too. I think they will be surprise additions with a couple of others too. I am just trying to figure out why they posted this list so early when last year they posted it on October.
DeleteJen said it was a secret project. I know she gave a clue of the name of the movie, but maybe it is a secret cause it will be added to GAF? It seems she has been staying with them, but I guess she could also want to have HM movies too. I hope they will have those few as additions. All of these movies we already knew anyway. And a few are not even new.
DeleteI am excited cause we do always say too many is too much. But I was looking forward to Jen Lilley x2 :) She is just so sweet.
Sabrina
Jessica Lowndes & Daniel Lissing’s Christmas movie will be end up on GAFAM
DeleteIt’s directed by Robin Dunn
This looks like a great selection and is it just me, but looks like more than normal?? I can’t wait! I’m always excited for Fall/Christmas time in the middle of the hot summer!ππ
ReplyDeleteGAF is my go to channel for Christmas movies. They have a terrific lineup of holiday magic this year.
ReplyDeleteMovies that are of interest to me are:
“A Little Women Christmas “- The talent and the storyline will make for a special movie. Any Candace Cameron Bure movie (“Home Sweet Christmas”) is a must see for me, especially when Cameron Mathison is featured. The Danica McKellar movie is yet another movie with a good storyline of take me away on a Christmas adventure vide-love it! Two of my favorite actors (Jill Wagner & Jesse Hutch) team up as two history buffs to find the meaning of Christmas. This history teacher and docent will not miss it. A history theme movie “A Vintage Christmas “ should be terrific. I am especially interested on the preservation aspect as they tie it into holiday wonder.
Thanks to Net for the outstanding article with insight and information on the movies and possible additions. The Itsawonderfulmovie community as always brings some of the best comments and reviews. They certainly help me in my movie viewing.
Have a great and safe Labor Day Weekend.
-Gabe’s Mom
How many Christmas movies on gAFAM this year 2024? There could be more than 18 Christmas movies!!!
ReplyDeleteI am excited about the lineup and can't wait to watch many of these movies! I don't mind a smaller number of movies, but I am surprised that several of the movies are movies that can already be viewed on other platforms since they are going with a smaller number. I asked GAF about Jen and Nick's movie AND Jessica and Daniel's movie on IG and X. GAF gave me a "like" on IG but nothing on X. I was just sure these movies were going to be for GAF and must admit I will be disappointed if they do not get added to the schedule. I was also hoping for a new movie with Lori Loughlin. I did see someone also express this on IG and GAF replied with something like..."oh the anticipation". So....maybe there is still hope that these movies will be added and we might see Lori. I love GAF and am still very excited for Great American Christmas year 4! Thank you Net for all the information you share!
ReplyDeletenice lineup
ReplyDeleteI think they will be adding more movies at least another 5 to 6 movies. Last year list was 21 movies and of course they added the movie with Marcus Rosner that aired the Monday after thanksgiving. If they only air the 16 with the same schedule they did last year the last movie would air December 8. Last year the movie that got them the best ratings out of all the Christmas movies was A Royal Christmas Holiday and that aired December 23. I think that Operation Mistletoe Jen Lilley and Nick Bateman movie will be added, the Jessica Lowndes and Daniel Lissing movie will also be added and some others.
ReplyDeleteThey said there’s more than 16 Christmas movies on GAFAM
DeleteLast years was 21 Christmas movies on GAFAM
DeleteI’m wondering if some of the movies are ONLY going to be on Great American Pure Flix and not Great American Family. I don’t have a subscription to GA Pure Flix and it’s not in the budget at $90 a year lump sum and even at $9.99 a month I’d have to cut some other expense for a few months to see the Christmas movies.
ReplyDeleteWe already have FrndlyTV, Discovery Plus. & Up Faith & Family. My daughter pays for Paramount Plus, Netflix (she taught herself Korean & watches movies in Korean on there) & she gets Hulu free with Spotify.
Last year I did one week trials on a few other streaming services to be able to watch a few Christmas movies I wanted to see, so this year I’d have to pay for a month of they had any movies I wanted to see. I would have to cut another expense somewhere. My budget is so tight already it looks like size 12 me trying to squeeze into my size 4 daughter’s pants π€£
I wasn’t going to renew Up Faith & Family because I’ve been disappointed with them. I can watch all of their movies somewhere else. My husband renewed it without telling me first. I was going to ask him to get GA Pure Flix instead. Now I have to wait til sometime next year when Up F& F expires.
Me, to my husband:”Maybe you should cut back on your cashew snacking for a while. I think you are over doing it ” (so I can get Pure Flix and what ever other streaming services I need during the Christmas season π€£)
Hmmm...I don't know...it's tough for us guys to cut back on our cashew snacking, and even worse for some of us to cut back on our Cheeze-It snacking! :)
DeleteI know what you mean... these streaming options can all add up quickly and with how high groceries and gas are these days, it's hard to take on one more monthly bill.
DeleteI had subscribed to Pure Flix before and when that ran out, I took a little break. Well, they kept sending me offers and finally one of them was around 40% off the regular price, so I couldn't let that deal go.
They haven't announced any NEW exclusives to Pure Flix for this Christmas season, yet, but streamers often do that, so it's possible. I'll be sure to share if I hear anything.
Blessings, Net
Mark, your comment about
DeleteCheeze-It snacking made me laugh out loud! So lately my husband has been stealing our kids snacks, mainly Cheeze-it’s (which I need to easily take with us to practices) so I bought him his own “grown up cheeze-it’s” as I told him. I forget the flavor but they had a chili pepper on the box and he hated them, he said the smell was so strong it stunk up his whole truck π so he’s back to eating the kids cheeze-it bags, he said it’s the perfect portion size for him π
~Paula
Oh Paula, I can so relate to your husband! Yes, those Chili Cheezit's are powerful! I tried them once but I had to stop because they were giving me heartburn. And they indeed stink! So I stick with my favorite - the extra-toasty Cheezit's. (Those are my go-to snack when I need something salty. My #2 go-to - cashews!)
DeleteBy the way, how are your son and daughter doing with the new family member?
Mark, that’s what he said, that he got heartburn π
DeleteThank you for asking, our daughter is over the moon with the puppy. She takes him at the table when she eats, when she’s watching a movie he’s laying on the couch with her, it’s so cute. Our son on the other hand cannot be left alone with him, I think he’s confused. Like he thinks he may be a toy but yet he’s running around and nipping at his feet Lol
So I’m on the struggle bus trying to potty train this puppy and a toddler π
~Paula
Paula, your "struggle bus" comment had me laughing. If you do Instagram, watch a clip Jen Lilley put on last month about potty training - it's quick, but cute. (The clip where she's drying her face with a "clean" towel is also hysterical, especially if you've raised boys!) ~~Jane
DeleteThe movies that interest me the most are Jill’s and Danica’s. They seem like the best plots and the best actors fit. I like some other storylines but I don’t like the actors so I will be skipping. (Like Vintage) Little Women sounds great but I’m still waiting to see if it will be sad. Do not want sad at Christmas!
ReplyDeleteI will be extremely disappointed if Jen, Danica, Jill, Jessica, Lori, Trevor, etc. go back to Hallmark. When they signed with GAF it made me like them even more. Hallmark hasn’t changed its status. It’s been a few years since the big change in family content and it seems people are just accepting it instead of standing up against it. So sad. Keep standing for right, people!!! Never let this sin become normal or acceptable! -Anonymous1
I'm sure all those people you mentioned will definitely be staying at GAF. Now, it is just a matter of time of when Lori's new projects will be announced. Back in April on a Full House podcast she guest-starred in, she said that she had some other good projects that are coming up.
DeleteI’m looking forward to so many of these, and starting to get excited for Christmas!! Glad to see Ash Tsai is back, since I enjoyed her natural acting style in her debut Christmas movie in 2023, Journey to Christmas.
ReplyDeleteThere are a few on this list that already played last year on other streaming platforms and reviews are on Net’s “Christmas Movie Reviews” page from 2023.
**Christmas in Scotland (2023 XumoPlay) I loved the beautiful Scottish setting but the movie itself was rather middle-of-the-road, but probably cute enough for a one-time watch.
**The Fabric of Christmas (2023 on Roku) Excellent movie! Thoroughly enjoyable! Would buy the dvd, if available.
**Christmas by Candlelight (2023 XumoPlay) I just couldn’t get into this movie, so I quit watching.
**Coupled Up for Christmas (2023 XumoPlay) Entertaining, funny, sweet. Had a few silly bits but it’s definitely worth a re-watch for me.
~~Jane
I kid you not - Tails Of Christmas is already streaming on Amazon Prime and it hasn't premiered on GAF yet - Florence
ReplyDeleteChristmas Wreaths and Ribbons. Slow, dull, uninspired. Delete halfway. Nice, sweet message about caring for your neighbor, but my already-blah mood just couldn’t handle any more of this movie. Casey was good but I couldn’t quite understand how his character would completely just drop everything and abandon his own business to spend all his busy holiday time becoming a florist for his prickly neighbor (there just didn’t seem to be a realistic balance between his life and Christmas bakery responsibilities and helping her all the time -- surely, they could’ve found a student to help out part time at low pay)?? And, for me, Kristin’s character was just a cross between annoying and lackluster. I needed more chemistry or liveliness or humor or something to keep me from snoozing. The wreaths and Christmas decorations were pretty and not the usual “GAF-over-the-top”, so that was nice. Agree with Mark 25, Joan and Sabrina on this one. ~~Jane
ReplyDeleteA Christmas Castle Proposal. So, we all know I am not a fan of royal movies (that’s an understatement! π€£) but I, somehow, actually made it all the way through this one. Overall, it was a sweet, family-friendly movie, especially if the family has teen girls. I think what saved it, for me, was Rhiannon’s beauty and quirkiness and down-to-earth acting performance. (Well, if I’m truly honest, it was probably more so that beautiful gown that made this movie worth watching!) The leading man was pretty good, as well, although part of his character’s situation was rather tiresome. Likewise, I was not impressed with how the writer’s handled the proposal scene. However, what completely tanked this movie, for me, was Olivia’s hillbilly, bumpkin parents. Most specifically, her horribly ANNOYING and inappropriate mother!!! I was multitasking while watching and if it hadn’t been for the specialness of Rhiannon, I would have hit delete the moment her mother opened her mouth! Needless to say, I’m not planning on buying the dvd. Family friendly. (Side note. Why is the Queen the Queen?? She herself was not royalty but married into the royal family; she would not be in the line of succession. I would have thought that when the King died his heir, Prince Alexander, would be in charge?) ~~Jane (aka Princess Jane-gle Bells π)

ReplyDeleteTails of Christmas. Yawn. Sweet gentle story with decent faith elements but it was rather dry and slow and stilted and uninspired. The overall plot had good potential, but the whole production lacked energy and pizzazz, including the script, the directing, and the acting. I really, really like Ash Tsai but her quiet, soothing style combined with the bland writing (and other placid acting) makes for a perfect sleeping pill. (This writer and director duo have a definite style for their movies. They usually are sweet and clean - which I appreciate - but I feel like a bit more spark of excitement would be helpful as they tend to be a little too mellow and restful for me.) Even so, it’s still a good movie with cute pups and a good message. Would be good for the whole family to watch (just make sure adults have some caffeine to drink!). ~~Jane (aka Thumpety Thump Thump)
ReplyDeleteA Vintage Christmas. This one didn’t knock my elf off the shelf. I agree with Mark 25 and Net. The movie is sweet and had a nice, warm festive dΓ©cor but, golly, it was another slow, blah snoozefest where we have to fight the big bad developer to save a derelict and empty old building. (But the big bad developer was the best part of this sleep-inducing movie!) The whole thing was too formulaic with a lack of vitality and sparkle. Not sure I can even wake up enough to write a full review. And I can’t believe I’m saying this, but Christopher Russell was the best part of the whole movie! I love Merritt, but her character in this was just too prickly and annoying and bland through most of the movie. I think she and Russell could have good chemistry together but in this one, her character was just too obstinate and unreasonable in the beginning and then came around too quickly. To be fair, the movie had some good points, such as the fulfillment of Santa gifts thirty years later, but it was not a keeper, for me. It might be good for a one-time watch with the family. ~~Jane (aka Not Even a Mouse)
ReplyDeleteOnce Upon a Christmas Wish. I always say I’m never going to watch another Mario Lopez movie but here I go again. ;) And, honestly, this one was rather charming. It was, of course, schmaltzy, and very much over-the-top but it was also a lot of fun. I love dancing and singing and this one felt like a modern, more-cheesy version of the old movie musicals with Fred Astaire, Bing Crosby, Danny Kay, Gene Kelly, etc. The whole thing felt like a string of scenes put together simply to showcase the Lopez family singing and dancing talents, but it was still entertaining to watch and enjoy the choreography. And Mario’s son was great in his role as the student reporter. Anyone familiar with Mario’s movies will know that he’s going to try to include singing and dancing at every opportunity, if he can, but I think it probably would’ve helped, if they had advertised this as a holiday musical so that people who don’t like that sort of thing could just skip it. Definitely family friendly. Cute for a one-time watch, for me. ~~ Jane (aka Now the Jingle Hop Has Begun!)
ReplyDeleteA Little Women’s Christmas. I’m not sure, but I think one of my Bavarian Nutcrackers yawned during this movie? For me, the best part of the whole film was the singing of Silent Night at the Christmas Eve service (two beautiful voices!). The rest of the movie was sweet (a bit too much so, at times!) and I appreciated the faith elements, and cozy feel of the whole thing, but it just wasn’t a keeper for me. As sweet as it was, it was still basically the same old, same old storylines (too many storylines!!) from every other Christmas movie out there, with just the occasional Louisa May Alcott references. It also felt like they were trying too hard -- as if they were hoping to make a “modern” BBC period-film; and trying to squeeze too many different things and too many lead actresses all into a short 90-minute window just didn’t work. It would have benefited from being a commercial-free movie or possibly a two-part, “to be continued next weekend” kind of movie (similar to BBC period pieces being aired in several parts on tv).
ReplyDeleteI agree with various points made by Mark25, Joan and Net. Much of the dialogue was too wordy and felt a bit unnatural, “scripted,” stilted, or over-acted (plus, they needed more fun banter instead of so much saccharine sweetness). Even the lovely warmth of family felt a bit forced and unnatural. Like Mark25, I seriously was not thrilled with having Santa in a song about joy at a Christmas Eve church service, especially in a movie with such good faith elements – it just felt out of place for that particular moment. And, as Joan said, much of this movie “fell flat” (perhaps partly because I over-hyped it in my head before watching!?). I agree with Net about the lovely snippets at the beginning and end of the movie (and the inclusion of the dj’s voice throughout made it all feel extra cozy). I also did not like that the parents were out of town on a last-minute mission trip at Christmas (that storyline felt contrived to me). And WHY does Laura Osnes seem to be held back in so many of these movies from singing? Who makes these executive decisions not to use the various actors’ strengths?? Overall, this was a nice, gentle, sweet, warm-hearted movie worth watching with the family, but not a keeper for me; although I truly appreciate GAF and the whole cast and crew trying something different and, most importantly, including faith elements. (On the whole, I think I would’ve rather watched a movie with just two of the little women – Jen Lilley and Laura Osnes, along with Trevor D. and Jesse H. But then I suppose that would not have been even remotely authentic to LMA’s novel. Hah!) ~~Jane (aka Happy Golden Days of Yore)
