Saturday, February 18, 2023:

Storyline: It’s a week away from Valentine’s Day and Olivia (Davis) loses both her boyfriend and her job in the same week. Her sister Vanessa, who still lives in their hometown in Nebraska, convinces Olivia to come back home for an extended trip and help get her back on her feet. Olivia's roommate in New York has a friend, George (Tarasiuk), who's driving out to Los Angeles and agrees to take Olivia to her destination -- which is exactly halfway between New York and California -- in exchange for a free night's stay in her hometown. Olivia, low on cash after her layoff, agrees to take turns driving so he can get to Los Angeles in less than five days. The two strangers set out on the open road, both on their way to being who they think they're supposed to be. When George's car breaks down mere miles from Olivia's hometown, he has to stay a few more days in Valentine, Nebraska with Olivia and her sister. After spending so much time together, the two realize that their priorities might have changed, and love is what truly matters.

I hope you all enjoy the new movies this weekend; I'm especially looking forward to seeing Mixed Baggage on UPtv. It just looks like it will be a cute one to me. We'll see! I've always liked the lead actress, Leanne Lapp, since she portrayed the insecure younger sister, Mindy, in Surprised by Love, and she sang the song, Bill Bailey, Won't You Please Come Home. I still say that is one of the best Hallmark scenes- ever! It's definitely in my top ten. By the way, Mixed Baggage has also aired on PixL, but I haven't had the chance to catch it there. Have any of you? (An Anonymous person reviewed the movie - see here!)

Someone in my family recently mentioned that they like movies best when they know who the lead actor and actress are. I get that. There's a warm familiarity with actors we've seen before, but at one point, they were also new to us, too. Right? Everyone has to start somewhere. So, with that said, I've seen the leads, Sashleigha Hightower and David McConnell, in Love in Aruba in previous movies as supporting cast members (both were actually in the Hallmark movie Romance in the Air), so I'm curious to see them play the lead roles in this film.

Speaking of actors seen before, as soon as I saw the promos for Hallmark's new movie, Welcome to Valentine, I instantly recognized the lead actor, Markian Tarasiuk, from the endearing Christmas movie Christmas Jars. He's also been in several Hallmark movies, but Christmas Jars is still the one that stands out for me. I adore that heartwarming movie so much, and Markian does a remarkable portrayal of Ian Maxwell, who is an integral part of the family who secretly gives out Christmas Jars filled with money for those in need. If you've never seen this movie, I highly recommend it! As for Markian Tarasiuk's leading lady, Kathryn Davis, in Welcome to Valentine, you may recognize her from some delightful movies, too, including Six Degrees of Santa, Christmas on 5th Avenue, etc. I hope Welcome to Valentine will also be a good movie; I do find it interesting that Hallmark waited until after Valentine's day to play this Valentine's themed movie.

Please note: I haven't pre-screened the new movies listed above. If you'd like to post a review on whether a film is family-friendly, please share in comments below.

Have a Wonderful Weekend, Everyone!

Blessings to You All! Net

Oh Net, you are so right about that scene with Leanne Lap singing Bill Bailey in Surprised By Love. I actually didn't recognize her name until I read about the scene. That scene and Tim Conway stole that movie! Happy to see she has a lead role in a movie!

    1. Joyce, I'm so glad I mentioned that scene - so you knew who I was referring to! It is such a memorable one in a long line of cookie-cutter scenes - with all the other movies. Leanne has played a lot of side characters through the years, including the sister in The Perfect Bride movies, too. I agree... it's nice to see her doing a lead role now! :)

  2. Where you put at "one point they were knew to us too right?" It's supposed to be new not knew. Knew means you knew something. And new is new like brand new which is the word you're using.

    1. Yes, of course, that should be *new* instead of *knew*. I am aware of what both words mean. It has been corrected above.

  3. I saw the Mixed Baggage movie several weeks ago on Pixl. It's a great movie with nothing to be concerned about.

  11. I enjoyed "Love in Aruba". Very sweet movie. Plus the location was breathtaking. I lost interest in "Welcome to Valentine" quickly so I was unable to finish it. I am looking forward to watching "Mixed Baggage". I am a big fan of Leanne Lapp. :-)

  13. Hi Net,
I know I am writing a review late, but I finally had an opportunity to watch 'Mixed Baggage' and it was worth the wait. OMG! I enjoyed that movie more than I have enjoyed a movie in such a long time. The plot was complex. There were three lovely couples and best friends who seemed like 'real' best friends. The chemistry was palpable between all of the couples. This movie is a 'keeper for me'. I am definitely purchasing it when it comes out on DVD. It made me smile and my heart soar. :-)

    1. Joan, Thank you so much for sharing this review for 'Mixed Baggage,' and please know, you are NOT late at all. I haven't even had the chance to see it, yet, and I was so grateful just now to receive your review on it. In fact, if you still want to review a movie from Christmas, that would be great, too!

I'm sooo looking forward to watching this movie sometime soon now. It sounds so good the way you described it all. My to-watch list just keeps getting longer and longer!!! :)

By the way, I posted your review to the Mixed Baggage page here:
