Just thought I would share some of the latest buzz from social media. Typically, I only address movie details when they become official by the networks, but this movie info was so huge, I just had to share...
For all of you who are fans of the incredible mystery series, Mystery 101, as I am, yesterday Jill Wagner (one of my favorite actresses!) recorded a message to her followers and fans on Instagram addressing the potential future of the mystery on Hallmark. Of course, Jill stars in the series as Professor Amy Winslow and actor, Kristoffer Polaha, plays her opposite, as Detective Travis Burke.
Jill starts off her video with a cheerful, "Hi, Everybody!" However, it's clear she wants to get something off her chest as she says she wants to "address something." She's noticed chatter online and her followers have been DM'ing (direct messaging) her with apparently some harsh comments blaming her for leaving Mystery 101.
Jill does her best to set the record straight, by saying, "I wasn't going to say anything, but I want you guys to know, I love Mystery 101. I loved the people that I worked for, and with. It has nothing to do with my desire to do another one, or anybody’s desire to do another one, except for, the big boy, Hallmark. I think that they are probably going in another direction. I don't know. I'm not privy to that information."
Jill continued, "For my own peace of mind, I want to tell the fans of the show, I love the show. And, if I am ever given the opportunity to do another one, I certainly will. It has nothing to do with any of that. I just want you guys to know that. I haven't abandoned the ship. I wish I could give you more detailed information, but I don't have it."
She also added, "I do love the show. I love you guys for loving the show. And if we don’t come back, I just absolutely, from the bottom of my heart, wanna say thank you so much for the support of the show because that allowed everyone who was involved the opportunity to have so much fun on that show. I love Kris Polaha, he is like a brother to me. He’s like family to me now. We had a good run. And all I can say is thank you."
She concludes with, "I love you all and I hope everybody is doing well and getting ready to head into a very very amazing fun not-so-hot summer! Love you!" She ends with blowing a kiss.

My take:
I am personally very disappointed to think Hallmark might end this series at such a high point. It's clear, even based on ratings, that fans love the Mystery 101 series. Jill's right, the ending of the last movie is not an ideal way to leave the series with Amy and Travis obviously separated from each other. I was grateful Jill offered ideas of how to sum up the ending with possibly recording their own version, but I really want that next movie.
What do you all think? It's sad to know Jill received angry messages blaming her for leaving Mystery 101, when it's clearly not her fault, if it doesn't continue. I hope Jill knows how much many of us fans, like myself, love and support her!
If Hallmark can bring Chesapeake Shores back for one final season, why can't they let us have one final movie of Mystery 101? Kristoffer Polaha has shared there is a script for it, and he has read it. Basically, they just need the green light from Hallmark to proceed. I'm baffled why Hallmark wouldn't go ahead and make this movie for their faithful mystery viewers. This is a real-life mystery, but I think we have a few clues.

Mystery 101 on DVD:
I'm sorry, but it makes me so angry to see what is going on with Hallmark. It is obvious that the network is currently being run by a bunch of incompetents that have no idea of what to do other than to try to cater to the woke crowd! I don't know who is ultimately calling the shots, but if it is indeed those running the Hallmark Channel, then Crown Media (who owns the Hallmark Channel) needs to step in and replace those leaders, and if it is Crown Media calling the shots, then the leaders/owners of Hallmark Cards (who own Crown Media) need to make the necessary changes. It is so hard for me to fathom that the ultimate leaders and owners, who certainly have their eyes on the bottom line if nothing else, are doing nothing when their ratings are falling and they are losing talent to GAC! Something's got to give, and soon!
ReplyDeleteI think we know Hallmark's stance on this already. As I posted on her IG post, the last two times they did a Mystery101 marathon, Hallmark social media did not tag Jill and did not even show a picture of her. It's like she no longer exists. So I'm pretty sure it's done.
ReplyDeleteThat is a shame. I am not sure how their contracts work, but I'm wondering if it has anything to do with JW and GAC. If you recall, they did this with Cedar Cove--the last episode was an absolute cliffhanger, and they just cancelled it, leaving so many questions unanswered. Hopefully Chesapeake Shores will be wrapped up nicely. I have to be honest in that I have not watched a single new movie since Christmas, and at that it was very few and far between. I just don't agree with the road Hallmark has chosen to travel, and I am trying to only align myself with those who share my values. Like you!
ReplyDeleteI noticed that too that they haven’t tagged her in the Myster101 posts. So aggravating. It’s not like she’s gone exclusive with GAC. She did one movie for them. Hallmark makes me more mad every day.
DeleteI really do not understand some of the decisions Hallmark is making these days. Even if they don't see an extended future for this franchise, there are certainly enough fans to support a wrap-up movie. Even if that doesn't happen, though, I wish the actors the best and hope to see them work together again in the future. Happy Easter, Net!
ReplyDeleteI agree, Marianne! They should produce another film just to wrap things up even if they don't extend the franchise as a "series."
DeleteI love Mystery 101 and can only hope that Hallmark will do more of these movies. To leave us off on the last show the way they did and to actually have a new script kills me! It is a great story line and it is clean and fun. Maybe that is Hallmark's issue...it is too clean for the way they want to go. I really hope that is not the case! I love good clean Hallmark movies!
ReplyDeleteWas never interested in this movie series, but I'm very sorry to hear that Hallmark may have caused another mystery series to go belly up because of their agenda. The good fans don't deserve this. -Maria
ReplyDeleteKris felt very confident in a January interview that there would be at least one more and Jill and Kris were at ChristmasCon in NJ in December and also suggested that there would be at least one more. What I don't understand is if they want to change the mystery movies up and bring in more diversity, why did they green light 3 new movies that don't appear to be all that diverse: To Catch a Spy, Cut Color Murder and Curious Caterer.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see them produce another installment especially if the last film created a cliffhanger or sad scenario. If them not making it has something to do with Jill Wagner starring on a different network or anything else she's said then that's very sad and petty on the part of Hallmark. Here's hoping they understand fans would like to see a nice conclusion for two characters that seem to be well liked by fans.
ReplyDeleteAnyone else get the feeling something strange is happening with Hallmark? To cancel this mystery is insane! Two of their best actors who are loved by so many, and have one of the top shows on Hallmark, to just suddenly end it, they seem to want to defeat themselves. Angry, yes I am angry at Hallmark for so many reasons. This just adds to my disappointment! I know it isn't definite but it certainly sounds like it to me.
ReplyDeleteKris stated that the ratings are very good for this franchise and it does very well in international markets, so one has to ask what the reason would be to end this one if it's a money maker.
DeleteAnd even if the ratings weren't good, hallmark pushes all kinds of things that the ratings arent good for, like the Christmas House II (the first move was bad in ratings) they continue to push the all persons of color movies even thought they die in the ratings. Hallmark doesnt know its own audience, the new president wants to push her agenda. she needs to be fired. And this weekend movie, Easter weekend of all times to play the lesbian movie. Hallmark has no problem continuing to push things that ratings are bad. The mahaogny line will be a failure too.
DeleteWhy cant Jill and Kris go to another network with these movies?
I only watch monk on HMM, I dont even watch the HM channel. I havent watched a new movie all year but the aurora.
Please FIRE Wonya she has ruined the channel. And for what? For less fans? Even WCTH is drawing much lower #'s. It likely wouldnt matter if they fire wonya cause i wont even watch it anymore.
Funny how they are playing a love marathon leading into the lesbian movie. trying to draw in the crowds, it wont work.
Sabrina
Who is Wonya?
DeleteWonya Lucas is the current CEO of Crown Media.
DeleteThere's something seriously wrong at Hallmark.
ReplyDeleteThey rely on advertisers and they are not going to spend their money on movies with poor ratings.
The current ratings for most of the Hallmark movies do not make good viewing and yet they are persisting in producing more movies of a similar ilk.
It was the abrupt cancellation of Cedar Cove which made me vow never to watch another series on the Channel so I have never watched When Calls The Heart nor Chesapeake Shores.
There was the movie last year Redemtion In Cherry Springs in which they left the mystery only half-solved and I doubt we'll ever hear of it again.
It is beyond belief that they could make a cliff-hanger ending to the last Mystery 101 - one of their most popular series - and then not follow it up.
Really strange that the next episode had already been written as Kris Polaha revealed.
Perhaps telling that they issued a 7 Film Collection DVD of the show.
The fact that Jill has come out and made these comments makes me certain that it's curtains for this franchise - similar to my own personal favourite, The Ruby Herring Mysteries.
My gut feeling is that Hallmark has decided not to go forward with Jill any more since she made a Christmas movie last year for GAC.
This is devastating news for most Hallmark movie mystery fans - Florence
What’s up with Hallmark cancelled mystery movies franchise
ReplyDeleteHailey Dean Mysteries
Gourmet Detective Mysteries
Mystery 101
Picture Perfect Mysteries
Ruby Herring Mysteries
Matchmaker Mysteries
Etc…
I’m not sure about Emma Fielding Mysteries, Morning Show Mysteries, etc…
Hallmark wet different direction with new mystery movies
Doesn't it feel like Hallmark is leaving the "mystery" series business? Maybe getting out of doing mysteries all together? There are very few now...and as much as I enjoy the Christmas movies--the rest of the year I am far more interested in mysteries than in more Rom/Com's.....have shifted to watching more westerns on weekend nights when Hallmark isn't showing a mystery ...or reading...or watching on dvd a Hallmark or Lifetime Christmas movie....I don't get GAC network or UP network...and not going to add to my monthly cable bill to get those networks.....but it does seem that if you do a GAC or Up or even too many Lifetime movies--Hallmark doesn't want you to work for them...too bad....
DeleteAs I commented in an earlier reply. Hallmark is only trying to be more Woke than Disney which has become perverted for its targeted audience. What was once good has now become bad and what was bad has now become accepted. As in the days of Noah.
DeleteDo you have any Hallmark Mysteries Movies on DVD? If so you can watch the Mysteries.
DeleteI don’t understand Jill Wagner what sayings on IG
ReplyDeleteI need Closed Caption/English Subtitles
I'm not sure about closed captioning for IG, but I summarized what Jill said in the video in my post above. Hope that helps.
DeleteI'd like to post one additional thought...much as I enjoyed Mystery 101 and like the cast...anytime the "personal relationships" of the characters over-shadow the mystery plot...or if the writing isn't good ...the series become far less interesting to me.....it becomes too much Rom-Com and not enough mystery....this malady has become too frequent with the Hallmark mysteries.....need some mysteries that focus on the "mystery" aspect of the plot../.almost all the Hallmark mystery series have become less interesting to me because of this....
ReplyDeleteThat's why my favorite was Garage Sale Mysteries. She was married with kids, so it was strictly a mystery and didn't get off track with the romance part.
DeleteMatt, that's what was great about Mystery 101. Sure, there was a romance story going, but the last two were packed with more than one mystery. I mean, even the end was a mystery that still has us guessing.
DeleteFrom the sounds of it, it seems like the future of 'Mystery 101' is up in the air. The delay in steps forward or nowhere is, my guess, dependent on whether Hallmark can afford to carry this story on. As I said in the comment section of Net's post about 'Chesapeake Shore's' cancellation, I wonder if Hallmark is currently facing financial difficulties? If this is true, I believe one of their downfalls would be their mismanagement of priorities. Think about this: Hallmark is, right now, at a standstill with a series that has proven to be a guaranteed ratings success. Yet they seem to take no issue in spending possibly thousands of dollars to hire the Rockettes to appear in a Christmas movie that may be a ratings flop. From the looks of it, Hallmark doesn't have as many guaranteed successes as they did years ago. Even their Christmas line-ups are losing their sparkle, with viewership numbers dropping every year. If Hallmark does pull the plug on 'Mystery 101', that will be the eighth program they've cancelled since 2021.
ReplyDeleteYes! And they shut down Home & Family too!
DeleteWhat??? This is outrageous!!! So many mixed messages from Hallmark. Jill and Kris are magic together on screen. Hallmark better get their act together cause they are alienating their viewers quickly. Not sure why they seem to dislike Jill so much. Makes me like her even more! I'm glad she addressed her fans about this.
ReplyDeleteHallmark Movies & Mysteries Channel is rebranding, and unfortunately, neither we, nor the actors and actresses, have any control over which series they keep or let go.
ReplyDeleteSad to see it go. Sad when actresses and actors are blamed for things out of their control.
d
I think that Hallmark has cancelled any movies and cut ties they had with actors and actresses who have filmed for GAC. They’ve made it obvious that they’re going head to head with them by getting some of their big names to sign exclusive contracts just as GAC has signed with Danica. Jill did a Christmas movie with GAC so that’s probably why Hallmark won’t green light Mystery 101. The same happened to the new Martha’s Vineyard movie. It was already set to be aired by April of this year and they’ve cancelled it. Both of the stars, Jesse Metcalfe and Sarah Lind have starred in GAC movies. Who is next I wonder. Don’t expect to see any actors who’ve filmed for GAC to appear in many, if any, Hallmark movies anytime soon. The only one who has is Jen Lilley and that movie was right after Christmas so probably before they made the decision to ban the GAC actors.
ReplyDeleteI think that's absolutely right. There may be a few exceptions, like Cindy Busby and Christopher Russell, who have a new movie coming up in May on Hallmark and both did GAC Christmas movies, but it really seems like Hallmark is drawing a line in the sand, making actors choose sides. Actors used to do both Hallmark and Lifetime movies all of the time and there was never an issue 'til now. It's all very sad.
DeleteIs it possible that Lifetime is owned by Crown Media?? I saw a Lifetime Christmas movie "Pen Pals" with Niall Matter, anyway they showed the same little red house(inside and out) that's in Mystery 101.
DeleteAlso, poor Jill Wagner. People need to give her a break, not her fault and she wants it. She also just had a baby.
Very interesting, I didn't realise a Martha's Vineyard movie had been cancelled in April - Florence
DeleteAbigail, Even though they are separate business entities, you'll often see similar settings in their movies, since both Hallmark and Lifetime, sometimes, purchase movies from the same production companies.
DeleteAlso, agree, people should be nicer to Jill! :)
Net, I am so thankful Jill made that Christmas movie for GAC. A Christmas Miracle for Daisy is one I keep watching. I am sure Hallmark does not like how many viewers GAC had during Christmas. The Hallmark we knew and loved is dead. Even if Hallmark does not support Jill, they can not control her success. There is only One who can.
DeleteSounds like a great opportunity for GAC or UPtv to me. But, GAC really hasn't put out new movies and that's a bit concerning.
ReplyDeleteMisty
I'm hoping one day(might take a couple years), hallmark will surprise us with another one. They did bring back Murder She Baked. Ohh, I really hope they do, this series is my favourite.
ReplyDeleteDo you think it's because Jill Wagner has a contract with GAC??
I hope gac family takes on mystery movies. Wouldn't it be wonderful if they took over the last Mystery 101, like they did for When Hope Calls. A girl can hope!π
ReplyDeleteI am so bummed out with Hallmark right now! I agree with others here...I think HM is mad at Jill because she did a GAC movie at Christmas. They didn't even wish her a happy birthday in January on HMM fb page. They did Kris in February, which got 13 thousands likes. Should tell HM how well he's liked. I think maybe HM is trying to get them to sign an exclusive contract and they will not agree to it. If that is the case or if they aren't moving ahead with Mystery 101 because Jill filmed for GAC...how childless of them! It's my understanding that HM ask for a cliff hanger on Mystery 101 and now this. They do not listen to their fans anymore. I pay extra to have HMM for mysteries and more serious story lines in the movies, not to see rom-coms. And apparently they are mad at Jesse and Sara too! I don't watch hardly anything on HM now!!
ReplyDeleteI am going to believe Hallmark will bring a proper closing to several shows, including Martha' Vineyard and Mystery 101. It seems like the latest trend is to have a cliff hanger as in Redemption at Crystal Springs and Cut, Color, Murder.
ReplyDeleteI feel like they are trying to bring closure to several shows and series ( The Wedding March, Chesapeake Shores and even Signed Sealed Delivered) I will keep the faith and hope.
PS I love Hallmark Mysteries-- not scary and yet suspenseful.
PPS I cannot get too critical of Hallmark as the channels got me through some sad times in my life
PPPS I also noticed the exclusive stuff started with GAC Family --they signed Danica McKellar and the competition began.
Can anyone remember if I've picked this up right?
ReplyDeleteI seem to remember that when Kristoffer Polaha first revealed that an 8th episode of Mystery 101 had already been written he thought that the fans would enjoy the twist which suggested to me that he knew the plot.
If this is the case then if the show does not come to air he could hopefully share this with the fans.
It's just unfortunate that Hallmark added that final couple of minutes to the last episode - had they not then while it would have been disappointing to see the series ending we could have accepted it without all the anger which has been generated - Florence
Florence, That's exactly the way I remember it... Kristoffer Polaha shared there is a script for it, and he has read it. I'm wondering, if Hallmark ended the series, could they take that script somewhere else???
DeleteJust read that Candice Bure signed with GAC also ... No more Candice on Hallmark ?
ReplyDeleteYes, that is exciting news about Candace working now with GAC! I have the press release here:
Deletehttps://itsawonderfulmovie.blogspot.com/2022/04/great-news-gac-media-announces-candace.html
Sorry to see the road that Hallmark has chosen. Like others, our viewing of Hallmark movies has dropped dramatically. We've seen some of the new Mystery shows and overall not that impressed. The Curious Caterer one was pretty good, but my favorites are Mystery 101 and Martha's Vineyard Mysteries and a few more that were canceled. And if those are gone there is almost no reason to watch Hallmark any more. If you have to get a review of every movie on a network that was once family friendly, it makes me wonder how long Hallmark network will last. They have pretty much lost their base. And they display their disgust for us by continually promoting programing that the majority of viewers will not turn on. You can't make money with no audience. I feel sorry for some of the actors that are still with Hallmark because many of them I like, but Hallmark has chosen a path I won't go down. I do hope that they will air Mystery 101 and Martha's Vineyard again. If it's over actors doing a movie for another network, that's childish. It's like two kids playing that get in a disagreement and one takes their toys and goes home. It makes me wonder about watching Hallmark at all if I am helping to support their agenda with watching even the few good movies they air.
