Welcome, Christmas, bring your cheer... the Grinch, Cindy Lou, and all the Who's Move to New Network this Year!

"Every Who down in Whoville liked Christmas a lot, but the Grinch, who lived just north of Whoville - did not. The Grinch hated Christmas - the whole Christmas season. Now, please don't ask why; no one quite knows the reason."
― Dr. Seuss, How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (1966 TV Short)

"How the Grinch Stole Christmas" is moving to NBC, since making a three-year licensing deal with Warner Bros. domestic television distribution, and (via The Wrap) they are planning to air this classic animation two times during the Holiday Season.

*A special Grinch green "Thank You" to Eddie for e-mailing me this news!!!*

“Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before! What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. What if Christmas...perhaps...means a little bit more!”
― Dr. Seuss, How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (1966 TV Short)

What do you think of this sudden Switch
for The Grinch?

The cartoon used to have several airings
during Christmastime...
In fact, Cartoon Network, TBS, and ABC,
is where you would usually find.

Do you think NBC will roll out the red, or green, carpet
for The Grinch, Cindy Lou, and The Who's?
We'll have to wait and see, but let's be hopeful -
they have heart, and do!

"Welcome Christmas while we stand, heart to heart,
and hand in hand."
― Dr. Seuss, How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (1966 TV Short)

  1. I'm 45 years old, and this is one movie I HAVE to watch every holiday season. It is timeless like the Charlie Brown holiday specials.
I read somewhere recently that in a couple of years there is going to be an animated remake of this movie which I will definitely have to see.

    1. I remember that being mentioned, too, Carol. Hmmmm? Wonder if it's still being planned?

It's nice to see The Grinch being treated so special!

    2. Hi there. I just checked again online and found this from Cinema Blend:

According to The Wrap, it's been announced today that release dates have been set for both Despicable Me 3 as well as a new CGI-animated adaptation of How The Grinch Stole Christmas. Despicable Me 3, like the series' previous titles, will be coming out during the summer - set for the June 30, 2017 weekend - while the latter will be sneaking into the Thanksgiving season on November 17, 2017.

    1. Thank you for your comment, Linda. This version of The Grinch, that is moving to NBC, is not a new movie... it's the classic around 26 minutes cartoon. It's my favorite of all the various Grinch movies or cartoons! I think you'll find it to be sweet, too!

  4. I grew up on this (and ACBC) and so many others. I have a older DVD of this cartoon, as well as many of the others. All of these DVD's are made from the older prints, which are much softer, resulting in a picture (for me) easier to watch. The version of HTGSC (and several others classics) that are been shown on TV for the last several years are restored versions. The restorations brought back a crispness to the animation and backgrounds; the animation looks as good as it did, when these were first broadcast. These restorations have also been color corrected digitally, where the color saturation is so high that I can hardly watch it. You can easily tell this difference if you watch the broadcast version of HTGSC (and some of the older specials), and then one of the older pre-restoration DVD's. Glad it is still on TV. I try to watch, but always end up watching the older DVD. I understand why this was done. But I also think that they went overboard with the color process.

    1. That is amazing details Dennis. I never thought about all the re-mastering process. I bet we would all be surprised at how different it looks from then to now. Thank you so much for sharing your grand "Grinch" expertise! :)

  5. I'm leary of this change I'm afraid! I enjoy catching The Grinch on TBS and Cartoon Network each year as it would air several times, sometimes twice a night. Only twice this season is a downer for me. NBC will air it at 8pm EST most likely, but hopefully it won't conflict with CBS' airing of Rudolph or ABC's airing of A Charlie Brown Christmas! We shall see...
