Hello, everyone! 'Tis the season nearly now for hot apple cider, warming spices, corn mazes, hayrides, pumpkin picking/carving, and more!
Our leaves here in the Midwest are still quite green, but I can feel a seasonal shift is coming soon!
This second weekend in September (Friday through Sunday) brings us Two New FALL movies - on the Hallmark Channel and Great American Family, plus a new heartwarming film on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries and an all-new episode of When Calls the Heart!

Friday, September 8, 2023:
Storyline: Emily’s life veers off course when she becomes permanently blind after an unfortunate rock-climbing accident and struggles to cope with her new reality. Meanwhile, a potential guide dog named Garth is also struggling with his rigorous training. With the help of Emily’s friend Matthew and Garth’s trainer Katie, both make headway in their important transitions. Through a series of missed encounters, both overcome their obstacles, and Garth ends up being paired with Emily. With Garth by her side, Emily takes on her biggest challenge yet, opening her heart.

Storyline: Hannah, a thriving romance columnist, thinks she’s got life and love figured out… until her longtime boyfriend unexpectedly breaks up with her. To prove himself, Liam offers to help Hannah get her ex-boyfriend back. But, in the process of proving each other wrong, they begin to realize they may be right for each other.

We certainly have a wonderful variety of new movies to choose from this weekend. Which one will you fall for?
All three movies look intriguing to me for various reasons...
Guiding Emily is sure to be a heartwarming, inspirational story full of emotion. The story is based on the book, Guiding Emily: A Tale of Love, Loss, and Courage, by Author Barbara Hinske (writer of The Christmas Club, which also became a delightful Hallmark movie).
Love Can Surprise You, Great American Family's first Autumn movie premiere, looks to be a lighthearted romantic comedy. I've seen the lead actor, David Lafontaine, in a couple movies, but the one that stands out to me the most is Christmas at the Plaza, where he plays the rather clueless boyfriend, who is not in tune whatsoever to his girlfriend's feelings. I'm hoping this new GAF movie will be a redeeming role for him. David's character in Love Can Surprise You seems to be much more knowledgeable about love, but can he apply it to real life?
And... since Hallmark Channel's new premiere Fourth Down and Love has two well-known and well-loved Hallmark actors, Pascale Hutton and Ryan Paevey, along with the football theme, I have a feeling this film will definitely draw in viewers with it's familiar and cozy fall feeling. It's set to record on my DVR; I'm sure it will be a ratings touchdown!
I'm also looking forward to the sweet reunion on When Calls the Heart Sunday night when Elizabeth's former student, Rosaleen, returns to Hope Valley. My hope is that it will be a touching episode building up to forgiveness from Rosaleen to Henry Gowen, who she still blames for the mine accident years ago that killed her father. From the promos Hallmark has shared, it's clear that Molly Sullivan explains to her daughter that Henry Gowen is not the same man he used to be.
Forgiveness is not always easy; it can be a struggle to give, but it's an important step to healing from past hurts. Honestly, the person we are to forgive may not always, in the rational sense, deserve it or even ask for it, but the Bible instructs us to forgive as The Lord forgives us for our sins. As we forgive others, through our faith, we are released from the anger and bitterness that once held us. Scripture tells us in Mark 11:25, "And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins." When we choose to forgive others out of obedience to God, then we receive spiritual freedom.

DeleteGuiding Emily is one the best movies Hallmark has produced in a while. Should have been a Hallmark Hall of Fame! Superb acting all around and the dogs were great too! And it's family friendly.

Net, Thank you for your words about forgiveness, I’ve been struggling with that in my life. I’ve been holding on to some resentment from the past. God’s been telling me to let it go and then I can move forward, but it’s still a struggle. I wrote down the two scriptures you shared about forgiveness, and I’m repeating them to myself throughout the day.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Joyce from Carolina about Guiding Emily. It is truly a wonderful movie one that gives you the full Hallmark feeling. I was concerned about the dog having a voice but Garth did an excellent job they did it just perfectly. The acting was wonderful I love the relationships in the movie where the friends were helping her along not giving her pity and letting her just sit there. They said you're stronger than that we support you, we're with you. They were her true friends. My words cannot truly Express how happy I am with this movie. It was wonderfully made wonderfully acted and it is such a heartwarming story. Great job Hallmark I have to give you lots of props for it!

I struggled to forgive for years but I finally was convicted when I thought “God has forgiven me, how can I not forgive?” And you are so right, what makes it so difficult is that many times the people we forgive don’t even care or do not change but it’s not about them it’s about us being obedient to God and letting go of that hurt and anger and allowing Gods love and joy to fill us instead. Maybe those we forgive will never change but at least our heart is clean and whatever Gods will is for our future relationship with them is, will be his will. I will be recoding both Hallmark movies this weekend!

ReplyDeleteHi Net, I was finally able to watch my recording of the Abby Brooks Mystery on GAC. I absolutely loved the faith and scriptures intertwined within the movie, especially the scene where she cried out to God out of frustration and desperation for guidance. I feel we have all been in that situation when our faith is not as strong as it should be and it was so relatable to see her just talk to God. Like others I was bummed the movie didn’t show them try to work out their marriage. I was thrown for a loop at the end, to be honest I thought it was going to be the lady who worked in the library/office where Abby was going through the newspapers….that lady just seemed creepy to me. I felt the explanation of who the killer was, was an interesting one. All in all it was enjoyable and I hope they make more!

DeleteHallmark’s “Guiding Emily” is a compelling, family-friendly, and engaging story of the love shared with a woman, Emily, who loses her eye-sight during a freak accident while rock-climbing. Despite her tragic blindness, she opens her heart to the love of her mother, friends, and coworkers, all helping her to restore some semblance of normalcy in her young life. Especially touching is the mutual love between Emily and her future service dog, Garth – whose thoughts are shared with the viewers as he endures his training as a seeing-eye dog. For me, the icing on the cake is the romantic relationship that develops between Emily and her longtime friend and admirer from her rock-climbing gym. This film is classic Hallmark that lives up to their motto, “Where Love Happens”.

This movie was such a delight!! I loved how emotional it was. Honestly, I couldn’t stop thinking about this movie even the next day after I watched it. I’m thinking of reading the book too. Sarah Drew’s acting was remarkable. It was such a heartbreaking scene when she found out she was blind permanently, and I was bawling my eyes out for her. The chemistry was great, although I did wish for more screen time between the 2 leads. Half of the movie Emily was still engaged to Connor. Her friendship-turned-romance with Matthew was so sweet. Although what happened to her was soul crushing, it also makes my heart happy to see how she was surrounded by really kind friends, coworkers, neighbor, who showered her with support and love. This was a truly terrific writing, directing, and acting all around. Of course Garth was super cute too. The only thing I wish is that this could’ve been a longer movie because I didn’t want it to end! Amazing job, Hallmark!
FOURTH DOWN AND LOVE
*clean and family friendly, with divorce topic* (I did watch it while working on my computer so hopefully I didn’t miss anything)
I didn’t expect to like this, but I really enjoyed it. The movie does have a “girl power” theme, with the girls playing flag football. I personally don't think it was extreme feminism. Chemistry was great. Personally, I think Ryan Paevey usually comes across as too cold and aloof in movies, but here he was more warm. Pascale was hilarious and fantastic as always. Just love her! The side characters were enjoyable to watch also. It was a solid, funny and heartwarming movie.

ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed watching this movie! It was heartwarming and sweet. Great cast. Family friendly. Truly enjoyable and she did a terrific job acting being blind, frustrated and kind at the same time. I was surprised this wasn't a Hall of Fame.
The only thing that really bothered me was the couple living together. We know that they were not married. Sadly, I am seeing more and more of this on Hallmark.
Overall great film! I would be glad to see it again!

ReplyDeleteGlad that Nathan and Faith will remain friends. I never felt it for those to together. I'm wondering if they'll pair her with Hickam, who has really stepped out of his shadow this season and I'm loving it!! Don't want Nathan to be lonely though, maybe he'll try again with Mei or my hope, Fiona. My favorite scene of them together is when she takes the gooey cake out of his hand and eats it. I think they would be a great match.
I might watch the Thunder Birds movie with Niall Matter(if family-friendly) since the real Thunder Birds are coming to my hometown on Owensboro on Friday and Saturday. A lot of my friends from church are going to see them. I may or may not go, depending on the crowd(I don't like crowds ;). Maybe, I can find a good spot farther away.

I just finished watching Fourth Down and Love, and really enjoyed it! It was definitely family-friendly, and the characters were all very real, and often funny. I agree with CH Mom that Jesse Metcalf seemed warmer in this movie than he sometimes is in other movies; perhaps it's just better chemistry this time around.
