I hope you all have a wonderful Spring weekend! We've had much warmer temps this week here in the Midwest, which felt more like Summer, and we may have some light April Showers heading our way soon. Spring planting has begun on our family farm this week, so we welcome the rain for our seeds to grow.
It's so nice to see the trees, bushes, and flowers budding once again and everyone out and about enjoying this pleasant weather. I just love being outside this time of year with fresh new beginnings... God's creation is so beautiful!
I certainly hope your weather is pleasant, too, this weekend and you get the chance to step into the sunshine! ☀️ Oh my goodness... just saying that phrase, "step into the sunshine," brought to mind a sweet song I used to sing as a little girl with my momma and sister, Evie's 'Step Into The Sunshine'! Do any of you know it? We had it on a record, (Yes, I said record!) and we'd play that particular song over and over again! Things seemed so simple then. Even though I grew up mostly in the cassette/CD era, I still loved listening to my momma and daddy's record collection. I just found a video clip of the audio of 'Step Into The Sunshine' on YouTube, which I shared below. If you listen closely, I think you can even hear the record player crackling sound effect. That brings back so many memories! Did you ever listen to records, too?
Please note: I haven't pre-screened the new Hallmark movie premiering this weekend, The Wedding Cottage. If you'd like to leave a movie review, please share in comments. Also, if you'd like to review any other movie from this year, or even last year, including Christmas, please feel free to share!
Evie's 'Step Into The Sunshine' :
I have other things I'd rather watch this weekend. (and reading her recent interviews is just making me anxious about WCTH going woke). -Maria
ReplyDeleteNet, loved the song! I remember singing it.
ReplyDeleteIf you are referring to the same Evie, she was one of the first artist I listen to when I began my new life. I need to look but I still think I have one of her albums. Brings back memories of a special time. As far as the new movie, not as excited.
Deletekitkat, Oh, so glad to hear you remember this sweet song! Such a fun, uplifting message! :)
DeleteJoCo, How wonderful that you may still have your Evie album! I agree... it certainly does carry with it such precious memories! :)
DeleteNet, I grew up with records and cassette tapes too! Those were the days! I remember getting my first boom box on Christmas morning, but there was nothing like the sound of those old records. I hear the crackling too in the YT clip. CJ
ReplyDeleteCJ, I had a cassette player, too!!! Actually, I still have it, but I haven't played anything on it for years. Mine is a soft pink.
DeleteThank you for mentioning hearing the crackling, too, in the YT clip! :)
there’s nothing like the records or songs that were popular back then. I don’t remember Evie but she reminds of some of the folk records my older sister had.
ReplyDeleteSo true! They don't make music like they used to. :)
DeleteThis one looks sweet and funny. Almost reminds me of the Hallmark film "Wedding Bells" with Danica and Kaven. I'll give it a try. Hopefully it is family friendly. Especially since it has Erin Krakow in it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a precious song!! Thanks for sharing Net!
ReplyDeleteTonight's movie looks good.
ReplyDeleteI still have a turntable and some records.
Denise, That's so great that you still have your records and turntable, too! We still have ours, as well. That must be somewhat rare in today's world.
DeleteYes, this summer-like weather in the Midwest has been wonderful! Low 80's - I got a lot of yard work done this weekend! And what are they calling for tomorrow night and Monday? Low 30's! You just never know around here! But I am looking forward to some rain this week - the plants and lawn need some help!
ReplyDeleteNet, you had me chuckling. Records, cassettes, cd's - I've lived through them all! (No 8-tracks, though.) And isn't it funny how record albums have made a comeback - I guess a lot of the younger generations prefer the sound from the records. But what I remember are the pops and the skips, so I for one won't be revisiting albums. (Not to mention how expensive they are now!)
Mark 25...I got you beat my friend. I go back to the 8 tracks and of course records too! We have a turntable and play old albums frequently.
DeleteNet..thank you for the lovely reminder of days gone by with recorded music. Blessings my friend!
Joyce, I love that you still listen to records... how cool! Since everyone downloads music now to their phones and listens to it in their headsets/wireless earbuds, it seems so cold and impersonal these days.
DeleteThank you for sharing!
Happy listening... and singing along!!! πΆ
Net, I just wanted to make you aware that your comments are showing up as from Anonymous is the side bar "Recent Comments".
DeleteMark 25, I so appreciate you alerting me to this! I can't imagine why it would do that. I just refreshed my page to see if that would help - so I'll give it a try with this comment to you. Hope it's a simple fix and it works! :)
DeleteWell, it's still not working right in the comment box on the right. I'll have to look into this some more.
DeleteI hate to be the bearer of bad news, but now others have just become "Anonymous" as well in the side bar.
DeleteYay! As of this morning, everything seems to be back to normal. Do we know what the problem was?
DeleteMark 25, I checked with other bloggers yesterday and they were having the same issue, so I was hoping it was just a tech glitch that would be fixed soon because I tried everything I knew to do. I was so thankful to see it was fixed today. I said yay, too, when I saw it! This makes it so much easier to tell all of the comments apart.
DeleteNew WCTH trailer was shown during the movie. It's short, but looks okay. -Maria
ReplyDeleteMaria, Thank you for sharing! The excitement is certainly building for WCTH's new season in July!!! :)
DeleteThanks. Celebrating the Soaps revealed all the Season 10 episode titles today
DeleteJust from going by the titles alone, it looks like Baby Coulter will be born in Episode 3, and that the big wedding could take place in Episode 10. -Maria
Maria, I was amazed they already released all of the episode titles. Since we are still months away - this is pretty early to know them all. Can't wait to see Rosemary & Lee welcome their baby!!! :)
DeleteI was trying to add to a previous comment and it cut off. Hope this is not a duplicate. The Evie I was thinking about is Evie Tornquest. I actually have three of her albums but the song you mentioned was not on them. They are from 1974 thru 1976.
ReplyDeleteJoCo, Yes, that's her! She has blonde hair, a bubbly spirit and a warm smile!
DeleteHer song, "Step into the Sunshine," is on her 1978 album,
'Evie - A Little Song Of Joy For My Little Friends.'
You can see someone is trying to sell a used album here:

The Wedding Cottage was another okay movie, not bad but not great. I just couldn't get wrapped up in the plot - you could predict where this was going right from the start. Also, Erin's character came across as a little too brash for me, especially at the beginning. And that's a cottage?? More like a mini-mansion! But I did enjoy the chemistry between Erin and Brandon, and Erin's scene with the leaf blower was hilarious! Good for a one-time viewing, but that's all.
ReplyDeleteMark 25, Thank you for this review. It's interesting to get your take on 'The Wedding Cottage.' I've heard a lot of people say they loved it and want a sequel... so just goes to show how people enjoy different things.

The Wedding Cottage was the perfect romantic comedy. Very sweet, funny, and CLEAN too. Loved Erin and Brendan together. Chemistry is through the roof. Erin is always so good with that. The movie was very well written and directed. It was entertaining and enjoyable all through out. Well done on this one, Hallmark!
ReplyDeleteCH Mom, It's wonderful to hear from you and hear how much you thoroughly enjoyed The Wedding Cottage! I'm so happy that this movie in particular is family-friendly. After reading your great, positive review - I can't wait to see it! :)

I LOVED this movie!! Family Friendly! Brendan Penny is one of my favorites, but this was one of his absolute best. And Erin was great too! I loved how she was thoughtful of her clients, and had a sweet and funny personality. The two of them were perfectly matched and really connected with each other. I loved everything about this one. From the friendly and positive townspeople to the raccoon family in the attic. And the moose and leaf blower scenes.
ReplyDeleteWhat a treat this one was. Made me hungry for sweets, so I finished my Hershey Easter bunnny. ππ
I have a feeling this will be a trilogy series. I'll buy it when it's on dvd Hope you all get to see it, it was so lovely!!
P.S... The man who played the carpenter normally plays the bad man in mystery movies, but it was so nice to see him play a friendly character for a change.
Sorry, I forgot to mention the name of this flick..The Wedding Cottage. Great movie!
DeleteAbigail, Thank you for sharing this upbeat, cheerful review for The Wedding Cottage! I'm so glad to hear that you also enjoyed this new premiere. I hadn't even noticed that you didn't mention the title in your first comment - since you mentioned Brendan Penny right away. Thank you for being so thoughtful to include it.
DeleteSounds like the movie is a sweet one! I bet your Easter chocolate bunny was delicious! :)

Haha, I needed it when the wedding cake choosing scene came on. ;)
DeleteHi Net,
ReplyDeleteI am showing my age, but kids today are missing out! CD's and digital music is good but I think there is nothing better than hearing a needle hit a vinyl record! Seriously, I used to get giddy hearing the imperfections come through. And, listening to the video, you shared, made me smile. :-) I still have my old collection of 45's and a few albums. I had a cute pink record player that brought me so much joy as a child. :-) I still remember the first two 45's I purchased and of course I still own.
Joan, Aww... thank you for sharing your sweet memories with us! Your pink record player sounds so cute. By the way, I always liked the record glitches, too, if it didn't scratch the record - yikes! I'm glad listening to the Evie audio clip brought you joy! :)
DeleteHi Net,
DeleteYou are welcome. :-)
The Wedding Cottage was my favorite movie so far of 2023 of any network. Pure enjoyment!

Warning for those who would be interested in watching Hearts in the game. I just saw the preview for it and there’s a female character featured that is definitely intended to be lgbtq whether they portray it in the storyline or not. She seems to be a friend of the main female character played by Erin Cahill so will probably be very prominent. For me, the presence of a character like that is all I need to say NO to the movie. I’ve never been an Erin Cahill fan but this plot sounded cute so I was interested in seeing it.
ReplyDeleteCommentary: I’m tired of the world force feeding us sin and calling it “love is love”.
Rebecca
Rebecca, I've been wondering if there might be something soon, since it's been awhile. I'm hoping I'm wrong, but I got the same feeling when I saw the promo for this movie.
DeleteI appreciate your comment. We know the truth... God is Love!
Blessings, Net
We finally watched 'The Wedding Cottage' and we LOVED it! So cute and fun. Of course, there was the 'contrived misunderstanding' but I could look past that when everything thing else was so good. Brendan and Erin were magic together. There were some sweet scenes and some gorgeous scenery. I recognized the house, from several other movies but I understand why they used it again. It is a lovely home. I think they shot 'The Summer Villa' and 'The Secret Garden' there. Anyway, I really enjoyed the movie. I could tell they enjoyed making it.
ReplyDeleteJoan, Thank you for sharing this wonderful review for The Wedding Cottage with us! I'm so happy to hear how much you enjoyed it. I agree, the cottage is lovely!

Just watched The Wedding Cottage and loved it! Brendan Penny and Erin Krakow were perfect together. And the way everyone treated the young couple getting married was so sweet. The house and scenery were beautiful. A nice, sweet movie to watch.
