"When Calls the Heart" is a heartwarming family-friendly series set in the early 1900's in the town of Hope Valley.
When Calls the Heart - Season 9 Finale - Movie Reviews:
SPOILER ALERT: Some of the reviews below contain spoilers from the season finale.
❤ "As for the season finale of "When Calls the Heart," I thought it was a lovely, heartwarming way to end this 9th season. My TWO absolute favorite moments were Henry praying with Joseph and Rosemary telling Lee about the baby! For once, Lee was even more expressive than Rosemary! What a wonderful, memorable moment! One couldn't help from feeling pure joy in Lee finding out he is going to be a father. And Henry getting down on his knees to pray with Joseph in his jail cell was such an impactful moment, as well as Florence's whispered apology and sweet kiss on the cheek. My heart broke for Henry when he said he didn't know how to pray. Tears filled my eyes. The subtle way Henry's character has developed through the years has been beautiful to see. His future was definitely left with great uncertainty. In fact, there were many questions left unanswered with Bill, Molly, Nathan, Faith, and Mei. Hoping for a Season 10!" ~Net
❤ "I was having a terrible night. Then I watched this beautiful finale, and it really helped. :) I'm so glad they're engaged!" -Maria
❤ "I was a bit harsh on my observations of Season 9 in another thread. I find that when I let my intellect take too much control I over think and analyze too much. When I just let my heart see the beauty and wonder of things, in this case WCTH, I am whisked away into the magic of God's love and presence shown through his creation and creatures. I loved the WCTH finale. I didn't analyze. My heart just SAW!! It was wonderful." ~Jim
❤ "Wow! What an heartfelt special episode!!! It was wonderful and precious!❤️ I balled my eyes out when Henry said he didn’t know how to pray, and then he gets down on his knees. I couldn’t help praying for the actors during the scene for salvation. If they only knew the important words they were saying. When Rosemary told Lee he was going to be a father, I cried, laughed, and practically bouncing on my bed. What a sweet scene. Probably the sweetest I’ve ever seen. Better than I could have imagined. Good job John Tinker!!! And when she felt the flutters....awwww! And the proposal scene was so precious. I cried when baby Jack hands the ring to Elizabeth and when Lucas asks to be Jack’s father. What a wonderful end to the season. Hoping for a Season 10! And when Lucas said he was the richest man, I cried some more. ππ" ~Abigail
❤ "Net- Your comment about Joseph praying with Henry was spot on. During these troubled times for such a powerful scene to occur on a much-watched program is certainly a message to everyone. PRAY! It is a wonderful series that I hope will be continued. Take care." Gabe’s Mom
❤ "I enjoyed the finale. I'm looking forward to the Christmas movie, too." ~denise
❤ "I agree with you about Henry's storyline. I cried when he Joseph brought Henry the Bible and Henry wanted to learn how to pray. It has been great to see the change in Henry over the seasons! Of course it was very funny when Nathan realized he didn't know where Henry so he went to the jail and in comes Henry with a newspaper and puts himself back in the jail cell. Lee's reaction to the pregnancy was also fabulous!" ~Karen
❤ "Abigail I wholeheartedly agree with your comment. Chris McNally and the little actor who plays Jack are a joy to see. I also get the feeling that several responses by little Jack are not scripted. Lots of connection between the two buddies. I teared up when Lucas asked if he could be Jack's father. The jail scene with Joseph and Henry made me cry. I truly believe that Henry's charachter felt godly sorrow. Lee running around elated & in his p.j.s was so cool and brought me joy. Apparently Mei Tsu was cleared of wrong-doing, so Nathan and Mei have a chance to biuld a relationship. As Faith said, she wasn't ready to get married. I hope that Bill gets well because he's a much needed character." ~Namegirl
❤ "The season finale of WCTH was awesome. So many of the scenes mentioned before were some of my favorites also. I had debated all season about quitting watching after the Season 8 debacle but the finale redeemed the show in my mind and eyes. Glad I stuck with the show. Hope they have more of that caliber show." ~Clara
❤ "I feel that if WCTH is not renewed it ended in a good way so I’ll be happy one way or the other!" ~Anonymous
I really don’t care for this season’s poster. Where are Rosemary and Lee? And where’s Bill? This used to be an ensemble cast and it just feels like it isn’t anymore.
ReplyDeleteJennifer R, That's exactly what I said when I first saw the poster!!! Knowing fans were divided over Season 8's outcome, I was surprised to see Elizabeth and Lucas so prominently displayed in the forefront, with only Nathan and newcomer, actress Amanda Wong, as Mei Sou, in the background. I'm sure Amanda will be lovely in this role, but it seems wrong to me that others, who have been on the series for years, were left out.
DeleteNet, will there be a When Calls the Heart Christmas movie for Christmas of 2022?
DeleteChris, We will have to wait and see on that. After this season ends, they will probably announce if WCTH is continuing on to a season 10. After they do that, we will learn, eventually, if a Christmas movie is planned.
DeleteWhat confused me about the picture was the town background. I don't recognize it. Do you know what it is?? And who's car is it??
DeleteAnd I missed the Rosemary & Lee, & Bill. Surprised little Jack wasn't in it, especially because there was a lot of scenes of the three of them in the trailer.
Abigail, You're right. The town does look different in the poster, more modernized or something. Maybe Nathan gets a new car this season. He was interested in learning to drive in the last season, so that could be a possibility.
DeleteI'm also missing the other cast members in the key art for the new season. It is rather disappointing to not see everyone featured. I feel it's a mistake to focus on 2 characters so prominently when the show is much more than that.
I don’t care this season neither. I don’t even wanna watch WCTH: Season 9 anymore. They pissed off for ruining WCTH: Season 8.
ReplyDeleteSince Elizabeth did that to Mountie Jack when she said didn’t love & wasn’t in love Constable Jack Thornton. She was with Billy the con-artist & Charles. Elizabeth had change her mind to be with Jack rather than Billy & Charles. Elizabeth & Jack got married &!have newborn Son; Jack Thornton Jr.. Since Jack passed away in WCTH: Season 5. Someone sent Constable Nathan Grant to protect Mountie Jack’s Wife; Elizabeth & their Son; LJ. Nathan fell in love with Elizabeth when he saw her at first sight. Even he’s still love Elizabeth.
Last time, Elizabeth said same thing that she did that Nathan just like she did that to Jack. Nathan’s feelings for Elizabeth if she feels the same way. It’s Little Jack’s turn if he likes Mountie Nathan for himself & wants a Sister although they’re like Father & Sister figure. Little Jack will go after Mountie Nathan & his Niece; Allie.
Love Florence and Ned in that picture.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think the episode title means? In Like a Lion.
In Loke a Lion meaning
DeleteExplaining the classic March saying: 'In like a lion, out like a lamb' ... According to the Farmers' Almanac, the weather folklore stems from ancestral beliefs in balance, meaning if the weather at the start of the month was bad (like a roaring lion), the month should end with good weather (gentle, like a lamb).
Ahh..gotch. Thank you Anonymous! That helps.
DeleteI am so excited to get back to Hope Valley with all the beloved characters. Excited to see Lucas and little Jack bonding scenes.
ReplyDeleteI saw another poster of Elizabeth, Nathan, & Mei Sou without Lucas
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to watching.
ReplyDeleted
There’s a new WCTH character named Arthur Gilchrist whose protrayed by Matthew James Dowden
ReplyDeleteWill not be watching the new season.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think is Mei Sou's reason to come to Hope Valley? I've heard some say she might be a teacher replacement because of the blind student issue or maybe she's Lucas' investor.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad they brought someone in for Nathan and that it wasn't Faith. Heard that Paul Greene has plans to come back in the next season. This show is sooo high in ratings, I'm sure there will be one.
I hope Erin Cahill joins the WCTH family one day. I would have loved to see her with Nathan.
Me too, I wanna see Erin Cahill’s character works with Nathan to solve the case that something happen in Hope Valley.
DeleteIf Mei Sou is a new Teacher for School for the Blind.
I’m not watching WCTH: Season 9
Mei Sou & Lucas are both hiding something who kept their secrets from everyone else in Hope Valley
DeleteLucas is always kept his secrets from everyone in Hope Valley, what his dark secrets must be?
Also, What’s Mei Sou’s hidden secrets as much as Lucas’ dark secrets on his own.
It has been repeatedly stated by the creators of Lucas’ character, including Alfonso Moreno whom we have to thank for the triangle to begin with, that he is a good man with no evil intentions. The mystery that he came to town with was resolved three years ago in season 6.
DeleteRebecca
I can’t wait for the new season! I know I’m in the minority but I think Elizabeth and Lucas are lovely together and I was delighted with season 8. I’m excited to see their story continue. I’ve never been too much of a Nathan fan so I’m curious to see if I find him any more likable this season.
ReplyDeleteRebecca
I'm excited as well Rebecca! I was a Nathan fan in the beginning, but he still wasn't Jack. Lucas started to grow on me in S8, so I was kinda in the middle. But the ending really helped me see how happy Elizabeth was with him and we haven't really seen that since Jack's time. It was sweet, emotional, and refreshing. I'm looking forward to see what's in store for them this season. All 3 of them.π€
DeleteYes I agree! I think one of my absolute favorite scenes of season 8 was the horse ride with Lucas. Elizabeth was laughing and joyful and it was so nice to see her that light and happy again. And I’m loving the sneak peeks we’re getting of Elizabeth and Lucas together with Little Jack.
DeleteRebecca
Right back at you! Little Jack needs a daddy(one day a baby sister). This new LJ is so cute. I hope we see a lot of him.
DeleteHonestly, it makes me pretty sad that some people want one of the very few family-friendly shows that we have to crash and burn. I understand that some are disappointed and no longer want to watch and that’s fine, but it really bothers me that people are actively “campaigning”, on Twitter and Facebook and the other social media platforms, to get the show canceled. After all this time. For those of us who are ok with Elizabeth’s choice, I really wish they wouldn’t try to bring down the only clean current show that I know of.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. Even though I was strongly on Team Nathan and disappointed in Season 8's ending, I'm still willing to return to Hope Valley. To me, it's much more than Elizabeth and whomever her love interest is.
DeleteI think many of the reasons some are not returning goes beyond the WCTH love story itself. The online battle between teams was pretty rough, and I know there were many unpleasant exchanges. I personally stayed away from that on social media, but I know many were hurt and just wanted some place to express those feelings. It's hard to say how ratings will go this season. I do hope, being a family show, it will do well, but I must admit, the end of Season 8 still stings a lot for us Nathan fans.
People are entitled to their own opinion--You are entitled to yours. I am among those who will not be watching.
DeleteIt’s totally fine to not watch. It’s NOT totally fine to try to take down a family friendly show when there are so few and that’s what I take issue with. I thought I expressed that.
DeleteAgreed! It's okay if they choose not to watch, but it seems cruel to others to try and cancel a 100% clean show that soooo many people love to watch.
DeleteSpeaking of campaigning...why not start one to hire Lori Loughlin back.
DeleteAbigail,
DeleteNow that’s a campaign that I can get behind lol! I loved her character and really miss her presence on the show. I feel that if she had been around, Elizabeth wouldn’t have stretched out the triangle so long! π
Rebecca
Aww Rebecca, glad you feel the same. I really miss seeing Abigail in her cafe, baking scones(and over-feeding Elizabeth ;)
DeleteHere's a website I found. Hope we can get lots to sign it. I'll be telling anyone I can. I really think this will help the show more. Blessings to you, my friend!
https://www.change.org/p/crown-media-inc-hallmark-bring-back-lori-loughlin
What did you think of the new preview??
ReplyDeleteRosemary and Elizabeth(with tears) hugging... do you think Rosemary is finally pregnant? So wonderful to have the two of them happy best friends again.
And the ring box at the end...WOW!!
I am eager for WCTH to return! I believe we are going to have some good surprises this season! I HOPE!!! Also, has anyone noticed the actress that we think will be Nathan's love interest, Amanda Wong, also plays Holly the coffee shop owner on Mystery 101 Words Can Kill and Mystery 101 Dead talk.
ReplyDeleteJoyce, I just realized that when I was watching the recent "Mystery 101" marathon. I saw her on the screen and thought... Is that? Wait a minute. I know her! How cool! It's fun when one of the supporting actors gets promoted to a more prominent role.
DeleteDid you just recently notice her, too?
How interesting! No wonder she looked familiar!
DeleteWe are getting closer. Only a little more than two weeks to go! I am so excited! I mostly want to see the new little Jack. He seems like such a happy toddler, and adorable of course!
I first noticed her in some of the clips they have posted. So I looked her up to see if it really was her. And there she was! I think she will be a welcomed character on WCTH. I liked her on Mystery 101.
DeleteSpeaking of Mystery 101 I am getting concerned about it's future. Kris Polaha and the write Christopher Plummer have both ask people to email or message Hallmark to tell them we want Mystery 101 back. Kris was more certain at one point. Jill was asked if there would be anymore Mystery 101 and she replied "I hope so". The 8th episode has been written...waiting on Hallmark!! I know Jill starts filming her "Lioness" series in June. There's time for them to film another episode but they need to move on it. I'm so confused about Hallmark right now!! can't figure them out. I feel they have really made some bad choices on what to keep and what to cancel. Only good thing is they have not officially announced any more cancellations YET!!!
As always...thank you Net for always keeping us in the know!! Blessings to you my friend!!
That last photo looks so sweet, with Mei smiling at the horse, with Elizabeth observing in the background.
ReplyDeleteThis new little Jack is adorable and cheerful little guy and I loved how Lucas choose to focus on them at the last scene. It was very touching.
ReplyDeleteIf Mei Sou is already married, how can she be matched up with Nathan? Maybe they'll be only friends, or.. maybe she really isn't married and used a different name to get the job...
But Cooper Canfield... If it was me or my siblings at that age acted that way towards our father(disrespectful), we would have been spanked...and deserved it.
Same here! Many times on some shows they’ll have some adolescent character that is disrespectful to parents and behave badly and they call it “going through a phase”. My “phases” would have been short-lived. π We we’re never allowed to act like that.
DeleteRebecca
You're right. It's sad how nowadays, parents give "excuses" for bad behavior.
DeleteEphesians 6:1-3 - Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
Episode 2 was great! -Maria
ReplyDeleteMaria, I agree, wholeheartedly! I especially loved when Henry almost walked to the church for service. That was so beautiful, my eyes welled up.
DeleteWasn't Nathan funny in the last episode..."2 scoops...Lucas, a cone" Made me laugh. And when he fooled Elizabeth, ahh!
ReplyDeleteAbigail, That scene was sooooo adorable! I loved seeing the jokester side of Nathan. He seems a lot less reserved and serious, then he was before. Can't wait for Allie to return soon!
DeleteI loved when he said that Newton has always been a good judge of character hahaha!
DeleteI notice closed Caption saying Mei Tsu
ReplyDeleteThe latest preview certainly looks interesting. What do you think will happen with Elizabeth's teaching job.
ReplyDeleteI'm starting to wonder if Cooper Canfield is the new Cody/lead young boy. A little trouble maker at first, but eventually growing and standing up for what's right. Angela's right to be in school. I can't wait to see this happen.
Loved it when Cody once sad, "Bad things happen if good people do nothing." I really loved watching Cody's character grow and look forward for the same with Cooper. I think it really helps the show to have solid children actors.
Also, I gotta say how wonderful it is to see the children in the schoolhouse again.
When Hickem was giving his Holiday speech, the way he spoke reminded me of Linguine from Disney's Ratatouille. Definitely nervous, but trying to be bold.
ReplyDeleteIt was kind of Bill to help him out.
Lovely episode tonight (reminded me of how much I loved the Christmas specials), but I'm a little concerned about those 2 women with the kids. I couldn't tell if they were just sisters, or friends, but I was a little uncomfortable seeing them. -Maria
ReplyDeleteIt concerned me too. The other woman with the teacher was never specifically introduced but that’s just the sort of subtle insertion of the agenda that Hallmark is capable of.
DeleteRebecca
Agree
DeleteI re-watched the scene just to make sure. To me it looked like 2 separate mothers who happen to be friends. Besides I don't think Brian Bird would do anything with same sex issues. He is a Christian and probably wouldn't stay if they did.
DeleteA good thing that I did not notice was any child being paired with both women. So I think we are safe. Hope this helps. God bless❤
I think Rosemary is finally going to have a baby. This is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteAnother great episode! And I didn't feel uncomfortable either! -Maria
ReplyDeleteThat last picture of the three of them is so precious! With Lucas pulling little Jack in his red wagon and Elizabeth smiling.
ReplyDeleteI also loved how good Lucas was when Jack jumped on him, interrupting his sleep.
Happy Mother's Day
Man, that was such a good episode! Looking forward to next week's finale! -Maria
ReplyDeleteI was having a terrible night. Then I watched this beautiful finale, and it really helped. :) I'm so glad they're engaged! -Maria
