Whew! That's a lot of Christmas movies premiering this Friday, Saturday and Sunday!

This weekend I'm looking forward to seeing:

(I'm only picking 3 this time!)

1.) Open by Christmas - Hallmark Channel

Since the story centers around an unopened Christmas card, I can't help from getting that "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" lost letter feeling! Plus, I love both Alison Sweeney ("Hannah Swensen Mysteries") and Brennan Elliott ("Crossword Mysteries"), so I'm hoping this is a good one!

2.) Christmas Time is Here - GAC Family

It's interesting that this movie stars Rukiya Bernard and Dewshane Williams, from the "One Winter Weekend / Proposal / Wedding" movies! It almost feels like a continuation of those movies. In the last movie, Cara and Ben's wedding, Dewshane was only shown remotely via computers and IPads, so it should be fun to actually see Rukiya and Dewshane together - again!

3.) Snowed in for Christmas - UPtv

I've seen the trailer for this and it looks like a lighthearted, fun Christmas movie with Kayla Wallace ("When Calls the Heart") and Jeremy Guilbaut ("Christmas Waltz")! Sometimes, it's nice to step away from the heavy dramas and just enjoy something cheerful and upbeat.

I'm hoping these three Christmas movies will be enjoyable this weekend. Which movies are you looking forward to seeing? Please share in comments below.

*Please note- I have NOT pre-screened these NEW Christmas movies listed above. If you happen to watch one of the new Christmas movies this week and want to share whether or not it is a family friendly movie, please stop back by and leave a comment. I know everyone here would be grateful to know any information you are willing to share.

See the 2021 Christmas Movie Review page - *here*!

You can also check out the Christmas TV Movie Schedule - *here*, which includes NEW Christmas Movie Premieres.

I pray you all have a joyous, wonderful weekend!

God bless us, everyone! Net

  1. Hi Net, I don't know if you saw my review on a different page, but I wanted to let you know that A Christmas Treasure was a great, family-friendly movie! -Grace

  2. I'm tentatively looking forward to My Christmas Family Tree and One December Night but a lot is going to depend on the content.

Having just watched One Summer and The Christmas Promise which I sadly found depressing I'm in the mood for something light-hearted and Snowed In For Christmas might just be it.

Hoping it's one of those gems whichUPtv sometimes comes up with - Florence

  4. Watched Open by Christmas. Not family-friendly, which surprised me with Alison Sweeney and Brennan Elliott. About halfway through, one of the male high school classmates Nikki runs into introduces her to his fiance, another man. He also talks about his high school crush who was a guy. I turned it off at that point, so not sure if they were shown again or not.

So sorry to report that Open By Christmas is not family friendly. About one hour into the movie there is a gay "engaged" couple introduced. I don't know if they are in the movie more than that one time. I stopped watching at that point. The movie is not that good, or at least the hour I watched wasn't. Story was hard to follow and not the best acting I have seen. I had just commented to my husband that "this is a very boring movie" when the "wham" came. So I just turned the channel at that point. So disappointed again. Alison is one of my favorites! Was so hoping we wouldn't see this!!

    1. Thanks so much for letting us know. That is very disappointing, and dishonoring to God. Sadly this is coming to be more common for Hallmark. I was looking forward to it as well. I hope this won't happen to WCTH or Signed Sealed Delivered. Hopefully not, since they both are inspired my Christian authors.

    2. Joyce, So sorry to hear this. I think it's in, at least, one new movie every weekend. Now this makes me wonder about any future Hannah Swensen mysteries, too. I don't think we can fully trust anything any more on Hallmark, except maybe the new "Godwink" movie and "When Calls the Heart."

Thank you for sharing - sorry to hear this again.

    3. Abigail, I'm hoping the same thing! I know WCTH producers have said they will keep the same values with their show, so I'm hopeful things won't change there.

  7. Open by Christmas has a gentleman in it whom she thinks may have written the card. She asks him at a party and his fiancé another gentleman enters the scene. Other than that it was a really cute movie. So if same gender attraction is not something you want to see don’t watch, but if it doesn’t bother you the movie is recommended.

  8. Open for Christmas

Nicky finds a Christmas Card in her chemistry book & read it with Romeo & Juliet quote that made her cry was written as anonymous. She has a secret admirer whose turned out to be Derrick.

Nicky talked with Treyton whose has a finance named Richard at high school reunion in one scene by asking him about Christmas Card but not known of who had written since high school.

Jeremy & Anthony are working on Christmas decorations inside a new house for surprise Christmas Party for Simone. Jeremy, Anthony, Nicky, Derrick, & Miriam kept a secret from Simone. The only reasons why Jeremy & Anthony spend more times at a new house for Jeremy, Anthony, & Simone.

At Christmas Eve Party, Jeremy, Miriam, Anthony, & Simone arrive a new house for them & Jeremy’s friends surprise Simone as Christmas gift. 9. Sad to say, I think I have to give up Hallmark completely. After the two gays appearing in the middle of Alison's movie, Open By Christmas, for my spiritual health, I need to do it. It makes me so angry at Hallmark for this. They have taken some wonderful movies and destroyed them for their own evil schemes.

    1. Hi, kitkat, I love what you said--your spiritual health. That is so true. I just posted a comment that I was enjoying the movie up until that point and I turned it right off and came here to cry on everyone's virtual shoulders about the dark path HM has taken so sad. For my spiritual health, I will only watch the oldies but goodies.

    2. kitkat & Savvy Girl, I understand your feelings completely. It's very disappointing to see how much things are changing so rapidly. They are easing a little into the stories this season - I can't imagine what it will be like in a few years.

It seems they didn't do as many stories like this during the year - but they sure are making it known this Christmas. And at all times - during this Holy, Christian holiday. It is beyond disappointing.

kitkat, I too loved what you said about your "spiritual health."

Savvy Girl, I loved what you said about coming "here to cry on everyone's virtual shoulders."

I'm so glad we can all be here for another! God Bless you both! :)

  11. I watched Open By Christmas last night. Once again, Hallmark had to dissapoint. About halfway through the movie, Allison Sweeney's character is talking to a man trying to figure out if he wrote her the Christmas card, about halfway through this conversation, his male fiance comes into the conversation. It was probably a 2 minute scene. Not much, but enough. I didn't see anything after that so I don't know if anything else happened in the rest of the movie. If anyone did, pretty please let me know who the card was from, I'm still curious, lol I'm sure it was somehow from Brennan Elliott. Still heartbreaking and frustrating that hallmark thinks they need to slip 2 minute scenes into so many movies now, not thinking about if it even effects their story, only caring about the loudest voice in society. -brother in Christ

    1. brother in Christ,

Thank you for letting us know. I wondered if this story might allow for something like this. They could have easily written it differently, but we know they were trying to make their own point here.

I hope they see movies like this will have fewer ratings when it is encored and DVD sells will also be lower.

I'm so grateful you share the same moral and Biblical values with us - Bless you!

  12. We watched An Autumn Romance AND Much Ado About Christmas this past week. We were waiting until the entire family was able to watch together for the first time, since we knew these would truly be friendly.
We really liked An Autumn Romance, the story and characters were all really good, like a lot of others here, I enjoyed the history aspect. We will definitely watch again next fall.
Mich Ado About Christmas was good too, LOTS of Christmas. we probably won't watch it EVERY YEAR, but we would definitely watch again. We all agreed it was SO nice to watch a movie for the first time and not worry for one second about what is coming next :) it felt like old hallmark! -brother in Christ

  13. I had "An Ice Wine Christmas" on last night while I was in and out, doing things. It's obvious casting was done by the woke brigade, lol, but the movie surprised me by being well-done, and, from everything I saw, it's family-friendly. I'd never seen the leading man, and I found his performance to be strong and enjoyable. The leading lady seemed more free to be a complete character than in another movie she's done. Overall, it pulled me in even though I was busy! I'm not sure how to put it into words, but Lifetime can sometimes get a very natural interaction with teasing and "realness" that I like, less staged and "perfect" feeling than Hallmark.

  14. I have not watched "Open by Christmas" but decided to check Facebook and found mention of a gay couple being briefly inserted, just for wokeness, as Sabrina says. Bummer, I was hoping this one would be clean. Hallmark is losing me a little more each week, but, you know what, it's okay! I love that we have this community to help each other seek out the good, clean movies, and my life is great without the misfit movies. 🙂

  16. ARG! I thought I'd give HM another chance this rainy Saturday evening and began watching Open by Christmas, with my two faves, Allison Sweeney and Brennan Elliott. I was very much enjoying it, especially the chemistry between Allison's character and that of her best friend played by Erica Dorrance. And then I was smacked in the face with a non-family friendly character. That's when I shut it off and came here. Oh, I could cry. Well, I tried. Before this movie was on I did catch Christmas Sail, which I really liked. Family friendly with great characters and a more original storyline. I tried, Net! But I just cannot trust HM anymore. So sad.

  17. I just finished watching Christmas Time Is Here and loved it! It had everything I love about Christmas romance movies. It felt like a true Christmas movie and had what so many movies have been missing...chemistry! I loved the comedic, dramatic, romantic moments in this movie!

I also watched Christmas Wine and it was pretty good. I am not a fan of wine, so I really can never get into wine movies. It could have been any other time of the year movie with the storyline. The acting was pretty good, but I just wasn't that much into the movie.

I have Frndly and was wishing they had Lifetime, though I wasn't expecting them to get it because, as you said, their content the rest of the year isn't family friendly by any stretch of the imagination. 19. "One December Night" is family-friendly, though it does deal with a couple heavy topics (alcoholism and Alzheimer's) that might be too much for the very young.

For me, the movie fell a little flat. I couldn't quite put my finger on why. I don't know if it was the script or the acting or the chemistry or what.

There were moments I did enjoy, and I loved the songs the duo sang at the end. I would love for them to release them as singles. In case anyone else wonders, like I did, the first song they sing, "Coming Home," was released a few years ago, sung by Maggie McClure.

  21. I will continue with WCTH and SSD, and be careful with the mysteries. The Candace Bure and Lacey Cherbet movies, I feel will be okay.

But the others, I can't do anymore. Hallmark is not honoring God, and all their Christmas films are about humanism, not Christ. I can't in good conscious continue any longer. It's to harmful to my soul. I should be reading my Bible instead. Our world desperately needs Christ now.

Some good films for suggestions if you would like to watch something new, (which I LOVE😃).... "Timechanger", " Facing the Giants", "Courageous", and " Flywheel". "Case for Christ" is really good too! True story. Those are my family's favorites. Hope they are enjoyable for you. God bless❤

    1. Abigail, Bless your heart! You are so right - the focus is definitely not on Christ any more. When there were only 6-10 new movies a year it wasn't so bad, but now that there are 4 new ones each weekend from Hallmark alone + many more from other networks - the time spent watching can be overwhelming. I'm carefully choosing which ones I watch, too, and I believe it's better to focus on The Lord and spending time with our family.

I love your movie suggestions. It's been a little while since I've seen some of them, but more recently, I really, really enjoyed "Case for Christ" and "Timechange!" Both are such powerful, inspiring stories.

  25. My Family Christmas Tree was a sweet movie that departed a little from the usual Hallmark tropes. I love Aimee Teagarden and was refreshed by a family friendly and family-centered movie.

One December Night, I LOVED. It is family friendly though definitely not light and fluffy. There are some hard topics but they were handled well and, by the end, it turned out to be downright heartwarming. 26. Started with One December Night. I REALLY enjoyed this one. As others noted it does definitely have some older topics(Eloise's dad being a former alcoholic), but I think anyone who has even a basic grasp of what that is will be fine watching it. because he did overcome this addiction, so all content involving alcoholism is just talk about the past, he is never actually drunk in the film. Otherwise family friendly!!! I REALLY liked Eloise and Brett together, all of their Christmas films are amazing! I enjoyed both of the dads, and the entire story was just very festive and heartwarming. Loved the music too. Will definitely watch again. No question it is my favorite on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries this year so far. -brother in Christ

  27. Also watched My Christmas Family Tree! Happy to report it is also family friendly!! It did have a TINY bit of older audience content, sort of.(just because the entire plot is based around the father having a daughter with a woman he was never married to). But I think they handled it pretty well, the dad makes mention of being involved in a church pageant, and one thing I really liked, the family said grace before supper. I think that was their subtle way of showing that he has made mistakes, but that was in the past and he has clearly changed since then.
Also.....TYLER HYNES!?!?! I had to rewind like 5 times make sure it was him! Lol Once Upon A Christmas Miracle is one of my all time favorites, so I was SO happy to see Aimee again, and she was REALLY good with Andrew. I had high hopes for this one and it didn't dissapoint, it was really sweet and Christmassy. Will definitely watch again! -brother in Christ

P.S. I hope this review and the review for One December Night is enough detail for a parent to decide if child should watch or not, I know it is hard to decide how old a child should be for certain content. If anyone had any other questions on the films, I will do my best to answer.

    1. They were probably filming Roadhouse Romance at the same time as Christmas Family Tree. Hence the Tyler Hynes cameo. It is quite funny though! And Once Upon A Christmas Miracle is one of my all-time faves too! I have to watch a couple times every year!

  28. Last comment I promise lol I didn't watch holiday in Harlem, I saw a commercial for it, and cannot confirm one way or the other, but I feel like there will be a character in there that doesn't promote the lifestyle I want to see. Bit I could be wrong, so somebody please correct me if I am :) - brother in Christ

  29. While changing the channel, I noticed a new cable station called PositivTV. It shows a lot of family friendly/faith based movies. I haven't noticed many Christmas movie, but one. I have Comcast. Just an FYI for anyone looking for another channel.

    1. Misty - That is great news! I looked PositivTV up and it is owned by Trinity Broadcasting Network. Unfortunately, I don't see it on DirecTV, but please let us know how you like it - if you get a chance sometime to check it out.

Hope many others have a chance to watch this channel! thank you for sharing! :)

  30. I will join the people who have good reviews of "My Christmas Family Tree". After a few disappointments with the previous Hallmark movies, this one was definetely worth watching. It was such a heartwarming, touching story (I've had tears in my eyes a few times). It is one of those movies that will be remembered and rewatched many times. I don't remember the last time I've watched Hallmark movies and felt in this way.

  31. My Christas Family Tree with Aimee Teegarden and Andrew Walker achieved the highest viewing figure this year for a Hallmark movie with overnight viewing figures of 3.24m.

Meanwhile on the same night over on HMM One December Night with Eloise Mumford and Brett Dalton surprisingly could only muster 0.97m viewers.

It's not as if the movies clashed - maybe starting at 10 o'clock is just too late for many.

A Holiday In Harlem had a dismal 1.34m viewers - Florence

    1. Part of the issue is that HMM is not on as many cable systems as Hallmark. There are some where they only carry Hallmark and not HMM. But you are right a 10 pm slot is also a problem as well.

    2. Florence, Those ratings numbers are interesting. I'm not surprised Andrew Walker's new Christmas movie pulled in those high numbers - since he is quite popular with Hallmark viewers. It's also interesting that the movie included the true meaning of Christmas - obviously that didn't scare away viewers, which I believe they are often concerned about.

I agree with your take on the HMM Christmas movies... 10pm is quite late for most people to start a movie. Plus, I'm not sure if that specific movie was a big draw for most viewers. I don't know. Usually, HMM movies draw me in, but that doesn't seem to be the case this year.

    3. Yes in previous years HMM has had better Christmas movies than the main channel but to date this year that doesn't seem to be the case - Florence

  32. Holiday in Harlem is family friendly. I usually come here to see if a movie is this way before I watch it, but because I didn't see anything regarding this movie, I thought Id bite the bullet, watch and report to the community.

I was a little taken aback by the comment by Brother in Christ that he saw a character in a preview that didn't promote a lifestyle he supported. There is a character in the movie who is a bit "flamboyant" but we need to be careful not to characterize people who come off this way as having a contrary lifestyle.

    1. Awe, Keith... thank you for biting the bullet and taking one for the team! Good to hear "Holiday in Harlem" is another family friendly Christmas movie.

I can't speak for brother in Christ, but I think he was just trying to look out for us. It is hard to tell from commercials/promos, sometimes, while other times, it is blatantly obvious.

Thank you for taking the time, Keith, to stop in and share this review with us.

    2. Keith, thank you SO much for sharing this! I honestly wasnt for sure on anything at the time. I mentioned it hoping someone else had seen it and could correct me, I'm SO glad I'm wrong :) and hallmark has dissapointed me several times already, so I didn't want to get my hopes up, thank you again for sharing. I now look forward to watching this one! Especially since it has Tina Lifford from A Gift to Remember 1 and 2, some of my favorites! Thanks again. -brother in Christ

    3. Well I’m with you on Hallmark disappointing. I honestly felt on edge the entire movie just waiting for something to pop up that wasn’t family friendly. It’s part of the reason I like to see reviews here first…so I can enjoy the movie. Keith

  33. A holiday in Harlem was a really fun movie. I really enjoyed Olivia Washington and would like to see her in more hallmark movies. I enjoyed the story of her coming back to the community and trying to carry her Gmom's legacy. I really wonder if a Nativity Scene with the Drummer boy's drum working really exists.

    1. Brenny, Thank you for sharing this review. Great to hear you enjoyed "A Holiday in Harlem" and that there is another nativity scene in a Hallmark movie; that was really lacking last year.

  34. Last night I tried to watch My Christmas Family Tree with my family. After hearing hearing reviews on here I was happy that there was one that's family friendly for a change. It's the first new movie we've tried on hallmark in about a year or two. But when we were about a fourth of the way in, the movie froze, then the whole channel went black...of course during the ONLY normal movie so far this Christmas. I'll try and record it again I guess, but hallmark has become a serious pain.

    1. Oh no... so sorry to hear that. We can have issues like that, too, with weather and DirecTV. Or, sometimes, there can be glitches in the shows. Hopefully, if you catch an encore airing - that won't happen again.
