Happy Weekend, Friends!
Are you ready for two scoops of romance?🍨🍨
This weekend is serving up the sweetest *Summer Nights* treat on the Hallmark Channel with the premiere of “Double Scoop,” starring Taylor Cole and Ryan McPartlin. This ice cream-inspired romance is sure to melt hearts!
Plus, what a treat to have Chonda Pierce (Roll With It), Elisa Donovan (Clueless), Jacklyn Collier (The Engagement Plot), and Patrick Muldoon (A Boyfriend for Christmas) also in the cast!
(By the way, in case you didn't know, Chonda Pierce is a Christian comedienne; I've seen her performance in person and she is fabulous!!! She's hilarious and so down-to-earth. Her testimony and joy for Jesus truly touched my heart! I can't wait to see her role in “Double Scoop”!)
And for your second scoop of romance this weekend... it’s time to say “cheese” with the Great American Family network premiere of “As Gouda As It Gets”!
It’s a double helping of delicious-themed fun movies!
See all of the details below...
Saturday, August 23rd, 2025:

Storyline: Nora discovers the best ice cream and hopes to land them as a client. Her sweet dreams hit a snag when her former colleague James has the same idea. Old sparks begin to melt the frosty tension.
Saturday, August 23rd, 2025:

Storyline: Brie Belanger is the maître fromager and owner of Brie’s Cheese, a cute artisan cheese shop located in picturesque Vermont. Looking to boost her business presence and sales, the town’s annual Cheese Festival arrives just in time with a $50,000 first-place prize. Up against her biggest competitor, Brie’s vintage smoked gouda is considered a frontrunner-so much so that Jacob Wolfe, a former chef and influential cheese blogger, approaches about profiling her delectable creation, leading their friendship to take a turn for romance. Complications arise when Matt Lambert, the handsome and charismatic new CEO of Lambert Farms (and Brie’s largest competitor) starts to show his interest in acquiring her shop. Racing against the clock and a disastrous power failure, Brie and Jacob must recreate a prize-worthy entry if she has any hope of keeping her shop and potentially winning more than she initially hoped for.
🎬 I saw "As Gouda as it Gets" when it first premiered on BYU in 2021. I remember it being lighthearted and family-friendly, and since it was Kim Shaw and Clayton James' second movie together, they had good chemistry. ~Net
Weekend thoughts...
For those of you on the East Coast, my heart and prayers are with you as you’ve endured the effects of Hurricane Erin. While I am grateful to hear this storm was not as severe as some in the past, I know it still brought uncertainty, flooding, and damage. May the Lord continue to watch over you and provide safety.
I'm wishing everyone a peaceful, joyful weekend. May the new movies bring comfort to you all, and perhaps you can also enjoy a simple treat, like a scoop of ice cream, to make your movie night a little sweeter!!!🍨🍦
If you’d like to share your thoughts or a review after watching either movie, please feel free to share in the comments below... I always love hearing from you!
By the way, in case you missed it, you can see my take on As Gouda as it Gets and my sweet friend Namegirl shared a movie review - both posted above, under the movie's info.
And if you missed the premiere of Mystery Island: Play for Keeps last week on the Hallmark Channel, you can catch it's premiere Friday night, August 22nd on Hallmark Mystery at 8pm/7c. and another encore Sunday, August 24th at 6pm/5c.🔎🔎
Paula (who is also a great friend and contributor here at It's a Wonderful Movie) recently shared this review with us... “Mystery Island Play for Keeps” - surprisingly I really enjoyed it! The others were not bad, they just fell flat for me, like I kinda got lost and didn’t pay as much attention as I normally do…. **spoiler alert*** This one however kept my attention with the mystery cheating suspicions and how she seemed to have a spark with her ex fiancé. I still didn’t guess the killer at the end though Lol" ~Paula
I always have double scoops of ice cream- match or mix - flavors of ice cream
ReplyDeleteDouble Scoop looks absolutely adorable! Finally, a movie that feels like to belongs in summer nights.
ReplyDeleteI watched Thread to Your Heart, and wow, you were all so right! It’s such a gem. The setting was breathtaking, the couple had amazing chemistry, and it was just ridiculously cute from start to finish. And the lambs?! Don’t even get me started. I had no idea New Zealand was that stunning.
Allie B, Totally agree... loving the sweet look of Double Scoop!
DeleteAnd so happy to hear you loved A Thread to Your Heart, too! I'm so glad GAF added it to the library. And yes, those lambs were too cute!!! :)
Thank you for sharing this review!
I have to watch the ice cream move!! It looks so cute. Maybe I can find a good pistachio or coffee ice cream to go with it. Yum!🍦
ReplyDeleteHi Net, I am going to try to catch Thread to your Heart as I see it’s replaying this weekend. And of course I am recording Double Scoop, it looks so cute! Hopefully everyone can give the Mystery Island a chance, it’s a lot better than the others in my opinion. I was pleasantly surprised 😊 So of course our kids love ice cream, but I actually don’t care for it, or cake. I am a cookie/brownie girl, half raw to be exact, and I’ll have candy only if it’s Sees Candy 😋
ReplyDelete~Paula
Paula, Hopefully, you’ll fall in love with “A Thread to Your Heart,” too! I noticed so many people sharing sweet, positive responses online, far more, it seems, than most of the recent GAF movies.
DeleteI finished Mystery Island last night, and it was a fun one! I think, though, if it were actually real-life, their mystery game would be shut down since an actual murder occurs every time!!!! Yikes, not sure who would want to play???
As for your dessert favorites... yum to cookies! Even if I personally don't love sugary treats, I still love a good oatmeal cookie every now & then! I love how everyone has their own sweet tooth favorites!!! :)
Have a Wonderful Weekend!!!
What are everybody’s favorite ice cream flavors??? I know someone here has got to love Mint Chocolate Chip or Traditional Rocky Road. ;) Mine is Coffee/Pistashio
ReplyDeleteAbigail, That is such a fun question. I'm mostly a healthy eater, so I don't eat a lot of sweets, however, I do love Alden's Organic Vanilla Bean Ice Cream, and if I'm splurging I'll have colorful sprinkles on top or chocolate chips!!! :)
DeleteOf course the sprinkles!!! My go to topping is Roasted Almonds. But for when I too go healthy, I love the low carb pumpkin. 😊
DeleteI don’t like Rocky Road ice cream because it didn’t a flavor unless my Mom brought Rocky Road ice cream when they added flavors
DeleteHi Abigail! First off, I am glad you are feeling better. :-) Secondly, I always enjoy the following flavors of ice cream: Anything with caramel and any flavor with cheesecake. I also am a big fan of banana. And, like you, I LOVE coffee and Pistachio.
DeleteThose are great flavors Joan. Cheesecake is one of my top favorites as well. Whenever I go to Coldstone(not often ;), I order the strawberry cheesecake in a waffle bowl. I like that the ice cream is cheesecake flavored, not vanilla ice cream. Man…. now that sounds so good!! 🤣🤣
DeleteHi Abigail,
DeleteOh my yes it does sound good! 🤣🤣 I haven't been there in years but I do recall Coldstone had really good ice cream. Plus, it was so much fun watching them make it.
Hi Abigail,
DeleteSo as an adult I don’t like ice cream anymore but as a kid I loved it. In CA we have these stores called Rite-Aid, idk if they are anywhere else. Our mom always took us because 1 cone was like $0.89 and 2 cones was maybe $1.50 and the scoops were huge! Not even a circle shape, they use a huge rectangle scooper. I always got mint chocolate chip and my siblings all got rainbow sherbet. They sadly closed the Rite Aid in our town and I think they are closing them across CA, but we take our kids to coldstone anyways. It’s pricier but always empty so we like it there. Hope you are on the mend friend 💗
~Paula
Abigail, Chocolate for me! That’s always been my favorite drizzled with caramel. Christie
DeleteOh Paula!! You just brought back memories to me!! I grew up in Southern California. I remember taking a short walk with my Nana from her house to the Rite-Aid. And yes they sold scoops of ice cream in cones. It was called Thrifty’s. I miss those days. Funny, I always asked for the rainbow sherbet, but don’t care that much for it now. I also miss 24 Choices. That place is soooo good.
DeleteI believe a lot of Rite-Aids have been purchased by Walgreens. We had them in MD. They all were switched to Walgreens.
I am starting to feel better. Thank you. I’m on antibiotics now, so I am definitely on the mend. :)
Hi Abigail! Oh yes you’re right, I forgot it was called Thriftys. My friend just told me they are still selling it in the tubs, that she just bought a strawberry tub at one of our local grocery stores. So last month before the Rite Aid in our town closed my husband ran in to see what they had and he bought one of the Thrifty ice cream scoopers, the huge rectangle ones they used. It was originally $30 for that scooper & I tried to use it to scoop ice cream here at home for our kids, I about sprained my wrist it is so heavy & difficult to maneuver, I was like wow how did the workers use these things 😂 Definitely keeping it for the childhood memories but won’t use it, don’t want to injure myself 😂
Delete~Paula
Yes!! I remember! Those were very generous scoops. I wish drug stores still did that. It was affordable and made my childhood sweet. Pun included;)
DeleteAs for the server, they either must have had strong wrists or went home with carpal tunnel….
But that must have been a California thing though. All the Rite Aids in MD never had a Thrifys.
DeleteGreat movie picks this weekend! And oh my gosh, that image at the top, Net! It's so summer-perfect with all that ice cream! Yummy! Christie
ReplyDeleteChristie, Awww... thank you! So glad you like it! :)
DeleteOne week until Crossroad Springs begins!
ReplyDeleteYes, sooo excited for the new series!!! :)
DeleteIt's been a minute, but for the first time in endless months I believe I will be able to watch this one live😉
ReplyDeleteI've already seen the one with Kim and Clayton it was cute.
Putting two of my favorite people together- Taylor and Ryan is going to be amazing,
I hope?
I am beyond excited to see Chondra Pierce, KSBJ my favorite Christian radio station down here in the Houston and surrounding areas, Chondra has done so many events for the station and helped co-host, she is the female version of Mark Lowry always hilarious!!
Hope everyone on the East Coast is safe, and continued prayers to all in the path of the next Rising tides...
But take comfort in knowing that our Heavenly Father is always in control and carefully holds Us all in his loving arms.
Ps- Net🥰❤️
What a nice surprise on a random day many months after your special day, but I am very grateful that you did receive the special wishes.
I meant every word-
You are Incredibly Special and I am thankful as we all are to have you brighten our day🙏🤗
God bless you 👼
Kathy, It is such a joy to hear from you!!! Your kind words touched my heart so deeply, what a blessing you are! I couldn’t help but smile as I read your lovely note.
DeleteOh, I’m thrilled you know Chonda Pierce, too! Isn’t she wonderful? It’s such a treat to see her in this Hallmark movie. Have you had the chance to watch her film "Roll With It"? For a while it was free on Roku... it may still be! It’s one of those heartfelt, uplifting movies that also keeps you laughing all the way through!!!!!
Thank you, too, for sharing your prayers for those on the East Coast. That means so much, especially since I have family in both Carolinas. My heart & prayers have been with them, as well.
Your message truly brightened my day, Kathy. I’m so thankful for your thoughtful friendship... it’s such a gift.
I hope you enjoy the movie tonight! (I’m not sure if I’ll be able to catch it live, but I’m eager to watch it soon.) I’ll be looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
Blessings on your weekend, dear friend! :)
I’m watching Hudson & Rex

Really looking forward to Double Scoop! Having Chonda in it makes me think it will be family friendly!
ReplyDeleteHey guys, just wanted to let you know Double Scoop is wholesome. Cute movie like old Hallmark. We really enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteOh my!!! Double Scoop is adorable and a yummy delight!!! The small town people are so kind and positive. A breath of fresh air. And the dairy farmer family is so cute. Both main actors were great with each other and had great chemistry. I really enjoyed this and it was family friendly.
ReplyDeleteAlso which was fun to see was the bed Nora slept on, I grew up with that headboard and it was my mom’s since her high school days. 😊
But blue cheese in ice cream. No thanks!!! ;)
Watched Double Scoop and just loved it! The scenery was incredible and really enjoyed Taylor and Ryan together-they had great chemistry. This was family friendly!
ReplyDeleteI also watched "As Gouda as it gets" and just loved this one as well! The leads were great, and their Chemistry was very good as well! It is family friendly, and it was just a joy to watch!
I wanted to love "Double Scoop" but my husband and I just thought it was okay. Taylor and Ryan had a bit of chemistry but not enough to hold our interest. The storyline was kind of boring as well. I don't know what was missing but something was. Yes, it was clean and sweet and the setting was lovely. But, it was a one-time watch for us.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Joan on this one! One time watch for me. It is family friendly, but it's like something is just missing.
ReplyDeleteJoyce, maybe there are so
DeleteMany movies that they become so predictable. I miss the older Hallmark Movies and Mysteries Christmas movies. They seemed to have a good surprising twist at the end and not predictable.
JoCo, good point. Even when the movies are family friendly it seems they still miss the mark. Older movies were better and especially the ones on HMM.
DeleteHello everyone,
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I watched "As Gouda as it Gets" for the second time and enjoyed it as much as the first time we watched it several years back. Yes, it had some of the same old recycled themes, but we didn't care because it is such a sweet movie. Plus, the leads have an easy and believable chemistry. Also, we finally watched a "Mystery Island" movie. We have not watched any of the prior ones because the reviews weren't great. but, we decided to give the latest installment a chance because the reviews were better and we were glad we invested the time to watch it. The setting was spectacular and the leads had amazing chemistry. We will watch the next installment as well.
