A Winning Team

Starring: Nadia Hatta and Kristoffer Polaha

Premieres: Saturday, March 18

When pro soccer player Emily (Hatta) finds herself no longer in the game, she teams up with Ian (Polaha), a laid-back small-town coach, to lead her niece’s team to the playoffs.

Movie Review:

⚽ A Winning Team is family friendly. Acting was good but not much chemistry between the leads...of course that's just my opinion. ~ Joyce in Carolina

⚽ A Winning Team is family friendly about After getting fired for lack of sportsmanship, disgraced pro soccer player Emily Chen (Hatta) travels home at the behest of her widowed brother, Brandon (Yu) and niece, Ava (Garcia). (Review may contain SPOILERS) When she accidentally injures Ava’s coach, Ian Vermette (Kristoffer Polaha), she covers for him and leads Ava’s team into the playoffs. Ian takes a Ted Lasso approach to coaching where winning isn't everything while Emily's competitive nature wants to win-win-win. With a shot at the championship at stake, their differing coaching styles threaten their objective, but as they begin to warm up to each other on and off the field, they each make strides toward healing old wounds. But when Emily gets an offer from her old coach to return, their romantic relationship is threatened. Can these two get back on the same team before the big game? ~Anonymous

⚽ For those saying A Winning Team is clean, it's not. The movie very sneakily snuck in a gay man in that zip lining scene with the instructor saying that he wishes that his 'partner' (aka, now code for 'same sex romantic interest' in these movies, unfortunately) would be more adventerous to him. (and I know this because a reviewer that I enjoy who is also frustrated with Hallmark mentioned it in her review.). -Maria

⚽ A Winning Team – Oh my… this one was, well, difficult to watch. I totally agree with Joyce, there was little if no romantic chemistry between Emily (Nadia Hatta) and Coach Ian (Kristoffer Polaha). In the first hour or so Emily is pushy, arrogant, and basically pretty much unlikeable. Winning and being number one is all that matters to her. In the second hour she makes a complete turn-around; she’s more focused on family, the kids she’s coaching, and having fun. They attempt to make her character more warm and fuzzy. I don’t know, others may like it, but it just didn’t grab me. Some of the acting was stiff, at times, and the romance seemed forced. This is not a movie I would choose to watch again. I typically love Kristoffer Polaha’s movies, but this one missed the goal for me. (pun intended!) ~Net

A Picture of Her — "Spring Into Love" kicks off

Starring: Rhiannon Fish and Tyler Hynes

Premieres: Saturday, March 25

Beth (Fish) unwittingly becomes the subject of an award-winning magazine’s cover and goes on a quest to uncover the true identity of the mystery photographer who snapped her photo.

Movie Reviews:

๐Ÿ“ท A Picture of Her is family friendly about Beth goes on a search to find the identity of a photographer as shutterbot who took a shot of her that became part of an award-winning magazine cover: LA Culture. ~Anonymous

๐Ÿ“ท Didn't hear of anything naughty in A Picture of Her. Though, I did hear there is an awful lot of kissing (possibly more then in any other Hallmark movie), and 1 of them I heard was a French kiss -Maria

๐Ÿ“ท A Picture of Her was okay, not great but not bad. One plot problem I had though was that a crowd swarms around her - a regular person - in public after seeing her on the cover of a local L.A. magazine. Most wouldn't attract that attention if they tried! Anyway, it was well acted with good chemistry between the leads, although I think Tyler's true niche is in more comedic roles (An Unexpected Christmas, Three Wise Men and a Baby). And as Maria mentioned, there is a rather lengthy kissing scene (but unless I missed it, no French kiss). Good for a one-time only viewing for me. ~Mark 25

๐Ÿ“ท A Picture of Her is a good movie. It does have more kissing than usual in a Hallmark movie, but to me that makes the story more realistic. That kiss always interrupted in the middle of the movie is very unrealistic. ~Joyce in Carolina

Unexpected Grace

Starring: Erica Durance, Michael Rady and Erica Tremblay

Premieres:Sunday, March 12

Grace (Tremblay) finds a note from a schoolgirl looking for a friend. Since Grace is still trying to find her place in her new hometown, she excitedly writes back and sets off a chain of events that ultimately changes the lives of three people.

Movie Reviews:

๐ŸŽˆ Whoa, Unexpected Grace is real keeper! Erica Tremblay has certainly grown up since 'Hope at Christmas', and is now playing a high schooler grappling with her mother's passing. This movie is definitely family friendly, and I'd be hard-pressed to categorize it; it's not a rom-com, not 'meet-cute', no 'royals'. I challenge everyone to watch, enjoy, and post YOUR take on it! ~Laura

๐ŸŽˆ Unexpected Grace is family friendly about trying to find her place in a new town, Grace discovers a note from a schoolgirl looking for a friend. She writes back & sets off chain of events that ultimately changes the lives of three people. Grace’s Mom passed away & Noelle’s Daughter named Antonia “Toni” Webb’s passed away ~Anonymous

๐ŸŽˆ Unexpected Grace - The movie is family friendly and a drama. I liked it. ~Namegirl

๐ŸŽˆ Loved Unexpected Grace. I really enjoyed this movie with "meat" in it. Rom-coms are good and I enjoy comedy but sometimes we just need something that touches our heart. This one reminded me of the old Hallmark Hall of Fame movies. The Gift of Peace was like that also. Hope Hallmark keeps up doing some of these types of movies. ~Clara

๐ŸŽˆ Unexpected Grace - My husband and I watched the movie, last night, and we liked it a lot. Yes, the storyline was sad initially but it turned into something meaningful, heartfelt and bittersweet. Also, the movie made both of us cry happy tears. The movie was truly was unexpected in many ways. It is refreshing to view a movie that is realistic and faith based and moving. All of the actors were good and the leads had nice chemistry. It was believable. I think Erica and Michael are under rated and the girl who played Michael's onscreen daughter was lovely. ~Joan

๐ŸŽˆ An Unexpected Grace was one of the best movies on HMM this year. This movie has substance with no hidden agendas. Beautiful message too! I will buy this DVD if ever available. ~kitkat

The Cases of Mystery Lane

Starring: Paul Campbell and Aimee Garcia

Premieres:Sunday, March 19

Birdie Case (Garcia) is a bright, successful attorney. Her husband, Alden (Campbell), is smart and charming, but his inability to settle on a career is causing strain in their marriage. When Alden goes behind his wife’s back to take classes in hopes of becoming a private investigator, a homework assignment entangles him in a murder investigation. Birdie just may hold the keys to solving the mystery, but Alden will have to come clean to find out. Only, Alden suspects that Birdie might be hiding secrets of her own.

Movie Reviews:

๐Ÿ”Ž The Cases of Mystery Lane was not a winner for me. First, too many holes and coincidences in the storyline. (For example, how was the killer able to hang the first victim?) But most of all, Paul's character is pretty much a nerd (hence, the glasses), yet a nerd who has no problem in acting cocky or being humorous in times of danger. His character was not believable at all. The ending implies more of these mysteries are on the way, but I will be passing on them. ~Mark 25

๐Ÿ”Ž The Case of Mystery Lane is family friendly about Alden and Birdie Case find a new way to keep the mystery in their marriage alive. Alden takes classes to become a private investigator, and Birdie may hold the key to solving one of his mysteries. ~Anonymous

๐Ÿ”Ž I didn't watch it myself, but people were commenting on Facebook that "The Cases of Mystery Lane" has a gay couple in it. ~Anonymous

๐Ÿ”Ž I started watching The Cases of Mystery Lane like 15 min late. It was ok...not much chemistry between the leads to me when a side character said he was in love with the character that died, then I knew that was when I decided to turn it off. Not missing much at all as I wasn't watching Hallmark for almost a year. ~Misty

๐Ÿ”Ž The Cases of Mystery Lane is not family-friendly. The victim was gay. They made it seem so normal too, very disturbing. I was about to stop watching anyway, didn't like how the wife acted like she was "best friends" with the guy at work and never have time for her husband. And the characters were too cheesy anyway. ~Abigail

  1. I don't see any of these movies being must watch for me. Given that every single 1 of last year's Spring into Love movies were all inappropriate, I feel it's best to skip this year's lineup. -Maria

    1. I hope that A Picture of Her is family friendly because I like both stars, Tyler Hynes and Rhiannon Fish.

    2. I just don't understand the logic of ruining every movie with a conjured up excuse to include a scene to satisfy the audience of less than 10% who have imposed their will on management to make it almost mandatory viewing? It reminds me of what Disney has done at all their theme parks, much to their detriment to the tune of 10 BILLION in the last 2 years! Why make 90% of viewers mad just to satisfy 10%? Walt Disney must be doing back-flips in his grave!

  3. Also delighted to see Michael Rady back.

Wonder why there's nothing on 04 March?

The three main Channel movies look okay on paper - never heard of Nadia Hatta before.

Will be interesting to see how Rhiannan Fish and Tyler Hynes (last year's big Christmas hit) match up.

Ms Fish it seems is becoming a regular now - Florence

    1. Yes, I already know Michael Rady as Detective Christopher “Chris” Childs on Magnum PI : Season 5. He replaces Detective Gordon Katsumoto (recurring role)

Detective Gordon Katsumoto is now with Magnum as Magnum's assistance at Robin’s Nest

    2. I notice Michael Rady wasn’t in last night episode of Magnum PI because he was filming Unexpected Grace

Michael Rady as Detective Chris Childs & Janel Parrish as Maleah are both starred in Magnum PI & different Hallmark movies

  7. Hmm, feels like a different kind of lineup. Several may be good, and I am especially interested to see Michael Rady back, too! It will be nice if they're clean winners...one can hope. :-) It's seems pointless to get excited about yet another new mystery that Hallmark will likely just toss on the ever growing pile of abandoned storylines!

  10. Can't wait to see my favorite Canadian actress Erica Durance in Unexpected Grace. Michael Rady is fine. I seriously hope that Hallmark Mystery and Movie promote this movie more, because in the past they haven't done Erica D........ right at all. She doesn't have to be an A-list celebrity to be treated fairly by this network. She's a mega star in her own right no matter what the haters say. The chemistry between Erica and Michael characters should be off the chain. The stunning ex Lois Lane from Smallville is a goddess and i love her dearly and will always be a #ProudDurancer super supportive fan 4Life.

I did some quick research and discovered the four main friends are in straight relationships, but not sure about their other friends, etc... in the series. Wonder if anyone has started watching this on Hallmark Movies Now???

  12. Apart from Brittany and Marcus the only other "big" star in a leading role that I recognise is Jesse Hutch although Franco Lo Pesti appears to have a secondary role in one of the movies.

I don't know how this set of movies will work out - even if Hallmark will air all of them.

Interestingly Brittany has an upcoming movie with Rob Mayes entitled Just Jake.

    The synopsis is rather intriguing:

An emerging country star returns to his hometown to overcome his serious writers's block, and reunites with his high school sweetheart.Together they rediscover love and learn that the best music is the music you make together.

I like the sound of this - the way I read that, Brittany will be performing musically and I wasn't aware this was one of her talents - Florence
