PLOT:
In 1967, two rambunctious sisters are abandoned and raised by doting grandparents and one wacky great-grandmother in the southern town of Fireside. Humor, heartbreak and triumph are served with whipped cream and lots of local nuts in this heartwarming tale of family, friendship and forgiveness.

More story details:
In 1967, sisters Juliet (Darby Camp) and Evangeline (Chandler Head) are abandoned by their mother at their unsuspecting grandparents’ farm in the small southern town of Fireside. Stunned by their sudden arrival, tender-hearted Walt (Corbin Bernsen) and champion fiddler Ruby (Melissa Gilbert) graciously stand in for the missing parents and create one blue-ribbon recipe for a loving family. Fireside, home of radio Station KOFF, kept secrets, broken promises and to-die-for sundaes serves as the backdrop for this heartwarming story full of surprises. Top it all off with the unexpected appearance of Walt’s ailing mother—eccentric, Emily Dickinson-quoting Itasca (Cloris Leachman), and laughter and tears abound. Richly packed with plenty of quirky characters and hilarious escapades, When We Last Spoke is a timeless movie for all ages that digs in deep to things that matter most—family, friends, love, and forgiveness.

Review:

"When We Last Spoke – Oh my goodness… this movie was definitely unique; it made me laugh out loud and brought tears to my eyes. I would say it is family friendly for ages 12 and up. This movie first takes place as two little girls, Juliet and Evangeline, are growing up in the 1960’s. It covers a lifetime of love and happiness, as well as loss and sorrow. When their mother can’t take care of them anymore, she leaves the girls with their grandparents, Walt and Ruby Cranbourne, played fantastically by well-known actors, Corbin Bernsen (“Psych”) and Melissa Gilbert (“Little House on the Prairie”). What love these two gave these two abandoned little girls, Juliet and Evangeline, along with a home-life and stability. Their father, in the meantime, is overseas fighting in the Vietnam War. Just when things were getting somewhat settled for the girls, their great-grandmother, Itasca Cranbourne, played by the late, great Cloris Leachman, comes to live with them and brings her own eccentric set ways. She’s a bit mixed up of where she is, at times, and misses her late husband George constantly. Mother Cranbourne is a hand full, along with the girls, but somehow Ruby and Walt manage. I personally enjoyed some parts of the story, while some sad scenes I did not. One person is thought to be having an affair, which isn’t true, and the ending wasn’t quite as satisfying as I had hoped it would be. The match of the actresses who portrayed the girls younger and older was phenomenal. In fact, I learned after watching it, that it was a real-life mother and daughter who played the younger and older version of Juliet. No wonder they looked so much alike! Overall, this movie was definitely interesting; it’s a coming of age story as Juliet and Evangeline grow from childhood to adulthood and grapple with the emotional issues of their youth." ~ Net

  1. Net, just curious. Do you listen to any of the Prophets?

    1. kitkat, My Uncle is a Pastor, so I often hear things through him. It is hard to know, sadly even with religious leaders, who to trust these days. I pray every day for discernment.

    2. Thanks Net! Me too! Without discernment, we can listen to the wrong people. Many ministers have lost their way. I am praying daily for this nation. The truth is found in God's holy word, the bible.

    3. For Daytime soap stars we have

one of my favorites in Vanessa Marcil, she was in 3 movies.

Eric Winter was on Days I believe

Jen Lilley is on and off Days

Jesse Metcalfe and Lindsey Hartley were on Passions

      Greg Vaughn on GH

Victor Webster was on Days way back in the day, he was one of Ali Sweeneys character of Sami partners in crime

      Justin Bruening was on AMC

      Ryan Paevey GH

Melissa Claire Egan was on AMC and is on Y&R now

      Jack Wagner GH's Frisco

      Peter Porte GH

      Rome Flynn B&B

Katrina Bowden is currently on B&B

      Jennifer Finnegan B&B

Anne Heche Another World (one of my favorite characters Victoria Love )

I only really ever watched GH when Vanessa Marcil was there and when Jack Wagner, never watched when R Paevey was there.

Watched Days when ali Sweeney was on but way back when she was a teen and early adulthood, not recent and not when Jen Lilley was on it.

Watched Another World, Days and AW were my mom's soaps, loved Anne Heche and remember her very 1st day on the show.

Watched AMC some when Justin B was on and MCE

Watched Y&R when MCE was on although I don't watch it anymore.

B&B have saw most of the ones from Hallmark at one time or another. I like Katrina Bowden she is so pretty and love her acting.

Never watched Passions cause of my mom and Days and AW but remember reading about it, Jesse Metcalf and Lindsey Hartley.

And definitely watched AMC when Cameron Mathison was there, with Josh Duhamel there at same time.

    4. Sabrina, Oh my! That is a LONG list! I knew there were a lot of them. Hopefully, Chris sees your detailed response. It's amazing how many of these Hallmark actors came from the soap world.

  6. Net, I enjoyed this movie but it was a bit confusing with switching back and forth from childhood years to adulthood. That took away from the movie for me.
