And in addition to Jillian Murray's new Christmas movie airing this weekend... did you hear the really great news? Christmas definitely came early for Jillian Murray and her husband, Dean Geyer, with the best gift! Jillian gave birth to their baby boy on the Fourth of July! His name is Sage, and he is absolutely beautiful! I'm so happy for them both! What a blessing from God!

Storyline: Set in the charming town of Brookhollow, The Trouble with Mistletoe follows an ambitious acquisitions executive (Murray) who returns home for Christmas and unexpectedly reconnects with the former fiancé (Varvel) she left behind. As the traditions of her hometown rekindle old memories – and unfinished feelings – she begins to wonder if the life she walked away from may be the one she was always meant to embrace.

Storyline: Olivia (Barrell) is a gifted miniature artist who has devoted her heart to the town’s Christmas market, a tradition started by her late father. A chance meeting at a train station with Grayson (Huszar), a talented yet unfulfilled architect, sparks an unexpected connection. Their bond is tested when Olivia learns his firm is behind the buyout. As Christmas draws near Olivia rallies the community to save the market after securing a delay to the final decision. Amid the holiday magic, Grayson and Olivia’s romance blossoms despite being on seemingly opposite sides of the deal. Together, they must find a way to merge their dreams and save the market, discovering that in order to endure love – like art – requires taking a leap of faith.

I was in the basement walking on my treadmill and I put Frndly TV on and "The Christmas Ornament" was on. I turned on my many Christmas lights and tree that I keep up all year in basement. What a WONDERFUL escape from reality! Swept up and away from the trials and tribulations of earthly living even for a mere 30 minutes or so. It's so amazing to be able to lose yourself in the Christmas spirit no matter what time of the year that it is. It is so great to be attached to a community such as this which totally gets it and understands completely what I am saying.

ReplyDeleteBased on the feedback here and other reviews, we decided to not even watch "O Little Christmas Market". However, we did decide to watch "The Trouble with Christmas Mistletoe" because of the positive feedback and reviews. Definitely glad we did because it was definitely so charming and really sweet as Maria and Christie stated so wonderfully in their comments. I just adore Jillian but was not familiar with Brett. They had really wonderful chemistry. The entire cast was top notch and the scenery and locations were just beautiful. It was a fun, absolutely endearing film which I would watch again. Highly recommend this gem of a movie!

Okay, if you read the synopsis above, yes, how many times have we seen a storyline similar to this? (Too many!) And indeed this movie has the usual "Hallmark Christmas tropes" (chance meetings, hands accidentally touching, and so forth). And yet...this movie drew me in because of the acting of Katherine and Stephen, and the chemistry between the two. So I am on the fence with this one. Would I watch it again? Maybe, maybe not. Do I recommend it? If you are looking for something really original, no. If you don't mind watching a rehashed plot with good acting, then yes. Is it as bad as some reviewers have said? No. Your call.
Mark 25--thank you! I actually liked O Little Christmas Market but was starting to think I must have missed something based on some reviews here! I thought it was sweet and the acting was good, really liked the leads and I appreciated their relationships with their parents. I guess I was also a bit imopressed by the cute little miniatures! The storyline was rather predicatble of course, but not as much as some!

The Trouble with Christmas Mistletoe is lighthearted and one of those movies that is rather comfortable to watch cause you know the formula… girl returns home from the big city, reunites with past love, the two reconnect, they spar, there’s some building that needs saving or renovation, and there are supportive friends, family, and a community just hoping they’ll get back together. All are true in this case.
ReplyDeleteAnd Brett Varvel and Jillian Murray are both great actors, but I must say I liked Brett’s character better because he was the one still faithful - waiting and hoping she would return one day and they’d get back together, while she put her career ahead of their relationship and dreams.
Brett was also the one caring for their hometown community, including an older woman, who once lived in his home, and he helps the local construction crew, who he knew needed work. He’s basically the all-around great, solid guy you can always depend on, and perhaps, in Jillian’s case, also take for granted.
I was kind of surprised at one point in the movie when I noticed Brett & Jillian standing directly under the mistletoe that nothing was said about it. Based on the title of the movie, The Trouble with Christmas Mistletoe, I thought they’d surely get caught under it several times.
However, in the end, as the story formula goes… there’s finally mistletoe and a happy ending, of course! ~Net
O Little Christmas Market - This is one of those movies that was pleasant enough, but that’s basically it. The opening actually reminded me a little of We Met in December. In both films, two people meet, share an instant connection, but never exchange full names - and then there's a phone number that's left behind in a note that never makes it to the intended person.
ReplyDeleteThankfully, this story doesn't keep us waiting nearly two hours for the couple to find each other again! Katherine and Stephen have a sweet, natural chemistry, and the movie is lighthearted, wholesome, and cozy.
That said, I wasn't completely sold on the storage unit storyline, and the "save the Christmas market" plot felt like it lingered a bit too long.
Even so, it's an enjoyable enough one-time Christmas in July watch with a few charming moments along the way. ~Net
