Storyline: Charlotte (Bristow) is an American, who has lived in Viena since inheriting a chocolate shop from her grandparents two years ago. Since then, she has worked tirelessly to grow the business into a successful enterprise. Christmas is one of the busiest times of the year and Charlotte has been selected as one of the finalists for Vienna’s chocolatier of the year. Taking home the prize could provide some much-needed money to fend off a large developer from taking over her grandparents’ shop. Charlotte soon meets and befriends Henry (Kemp), and they bond over their shared affinity for quality chocolate. But a surprising twist of fate just might end their newfound relationship on a bittersweet note.

Storyline: After moving to New York to make it on Broadway, Violette Wagner (Mason) gets a job at Fiore's, a legendary theater district diner, famous for its singing wait staff, who bide their time there, while awaiting that big break. Luck seems to be on her side when she gets a coveted slot, singing during Fiore's annual Christmas Eve concert, which is attended by a who's who of the theatre world. But her big opportunity turns out to be a duet with Alex (Litz), who has been less than welcoming, and believes she was only given the job because the owner of Fiore's is a family friend. They're stuck with each other, though, since people have been plucked out of that show and put right on Broadway. As they rehearse together, Alex's cousin, Brad, takes an interest in Violette, and they begin dating but, unbeknownst to her, Alex has been feeding Brad information about her, Cyrano-style, to win her over. However, when Alex begins developing feelings for her as well, a love triangle ensues, and things come to a head when their deception is uncovered, which, in turn, threatens Violette and Alex's big opportunity.

Storyline: When the daughter of a country singer loses her job at a record label, she goes off to become her estranged father’s manager and finds love along the way.

Sunday, November 3, 2024
at 7pm/6c. on UPtv

Movie Reviews:

πŸŽ„ "Country Roads Christmas. (FoxNation subscription Christmas movie.) Beautiful singing, especially ‘O Holy Night’; the lead actress has a beautiful voice and I actually thought her “father” was singing but it turns out they had seamlessly dubbed in a professional singer and it sounded great. The movie had a few odd, disjointed and cheesy bits that didn’t fit or make sense but, overall, it was nice for a one-time watch. It wasn’t overly Christmassy. And the romance was backseat to the family reuniting storyline. Also, it’s another one of those movies where the female initiates first kiss and declaration of love; ugh. I wouldn’t recommend buying the dvd but if they play it on UPtv next year, it would be okay for a one-time watch (if only for the music). Family friendly." ~~Jane

πŸŽ„ "Country Roads Christmas – This movie was a nice addition to the Christmas movies available to stream through Fox Nation. My subscription with them was about to run out, so I decided to give this movie a watch before it was gone. Overall, the movie is family friendly, about a grown-up daughter, Skye, who loses her job and becomes her father’s (Harris) road manager. Harris is a well-known country singer whose been singing on the road for many years; he left his wife and daughter years ago, so there are old emotional wounds that need healing. I loved hearing them sing the John Denver classic, “Country Roads,” and Skye sings beautifully throughout the movie. She was played by Lanie McAuley, who you may remember from Chesapeake Shores, The Song to my Heart, or Write Before Christmas. It was also nice to see Lauren Holly (The Town That Came A-Courtin', Call Me Mrs. Miracle, A Country Wedding) portray Skye’s mother and the wife Harris had left years ago. Along the road, there is forgiveness, redemption, and love… so it’s definitely worth the trip!" ~Net

My NEW Christmas Movie Picks For This Weekend:

Based on the promo I've seen and a sneak peek at one of the scenes, I think A Carol for Two looks sweet! Ginna Claire Mason reminds me of the legendary actress and singer Doris Day (do you see the resemblance in the images above?), which makes me wonder if this movie title might be inspired by Doris' classic film, Tea for Two. A Carol for Two is one of those movies that may have a winning combination: romance, comedy, singing, dancing, and, best of all, Christmas! Hopefully, it's a good one!

Plus, I like both Brittany Bristow and Will Kemp, so I'm looking forward to seeing their new movie together, My Sweet Austrian Holiday. I'm hoping I won't keep thinking of Love, Romance, and Chocolate while I'm watching and waiting for Lacey Chabert to appear.

Great American Family's new movie, Tails of Christmas, might be doggone cute, so I'll have to see!

Please share which new Christmas movie has caught your eye this weekend in comments below.

Please note: I haven't pre-screened the new movies listed above, except Country Roads Christmas. If you'd like to post a review on whether a film is family-friendly, please share in comments. And, if you missed it, you can read Jane's and my review of Country Roads Christmas above.

  1. Looks like another wonderful weekend of new movies! (and yes, I plan on recording 'For Christmas' as well!).

Hope everyone gets a nice reprieve from politics this weekend as well. (Tuesday is coming!). -Maria

  2. I am wondering how old the daughter is in Our Holiday Love Story. Cause Nikki D has a cell phone that i guess the screen breaks. I am not sure we had touch screens like that but maybe in 2010? so the daughter is 14? I was just confused on this preview what was happening. Is it all flashbacks to when the couple met, that would be before the daughter was conceived. I am just trying to think of when we had screens like that on phones. I see in 2007 there was the 1st Iphone. Don't know much about them I am android. It was probably more 2009 to 2010 with the kind of screen she has that breaks and she can't call Warren I guess.

I know I am being extra picky, but i was just hoping maybe they would research the ages they would have been and been technology appropriate.

I am pretty much watching the Holiday Mismatch. Might watch the Tails movie too. Then it is Hallmark Family for me all weekend. We are having a garage sale this saturday so we will be busy :)

  3. Hey Guys, my wife and I are now enjoying life in our 72nd year, 53 of those married. The Lord is so very good. Dealing with stage 3 renal, I find myself seriously scrutinizing all things Christmas (Movies) year round. Watch almost nightly throughout the “offseason “ while maintaining 60-90 recordings on my big screen. My concern??! What has happened to the depth and quality of the movies? And Christmas…..seems the only connection is occasional Christmas lights, music and decor. You wonder if the writers’ concept of Christmas is so worldly and empty or just plain flat. Where’s the emotion, the anticipation? Quantity without quality. And I want so much for GAC/GAF to grow and be successful but they’ve got to give us some difference makers—some Christmas Movies that cause us to stay WOW, that was exceptional. They do have some quality talent and I believe ambition in leadership, but they definitely need to give their dedicated viewers some Christmas Movies to get excited about. Hallmark and HMM have, for the most part, lost their way. And Lifetime, though recently a non-competitive, does occasionally get it done. Regardless, Jesus remains the way, the truth and the life. The movies just help pass the time. Merry Christmas to all.

    1. Lane, Thank you for sharing your story with us. My family and I will be certain to keep you in our prayers. I'm so sorry you are dealing with stage 3 renal, but we know that God is greater. I'm so glad you know Jesus and you have a supportive wife.

I understand your feelings all too well on the Christmas movies, these past few years especially. I have felt there has been some fun comedy, but very little substance with the heart and true meaning of Christmas... Jesus! It seems very few movies portray that message any longer and when they do - I cling to those few films and watch them over and over again. It sounds like with your extensive movie collection and daily watching, that you likely do the same.

I truly value your comment, Lane, and I will pass it along to Great American Family.

Thank you, again, for sharing with us. I feel your heart, and I greatly appreciate the wisdom you expressed. God's Blessings to you and yours!

  4. Happy weekend watching friends! I am also excited for “My Sweet Austrian Holiday”, even though others may say the story line as been done a dozen times, it’s a classic Christmas storyline and so I love it. I am also recording “Our Holiday Story” and “Holiday Mismatch”. So last night I was watching a new recorded movie from the past weekend and then I got sidetracked and started watching “I’m Not Ready for Christmas” with Alicia Witt and it was so cute & funny. Totally a remake of “Liar Liar” but family friendly of course, and her faces when she kept blurting out the truth were cracking me up, especially when she spoke about the fashion designer’s hairline and the bag that looked like it was bought off a street vendor πŸ˜‚ Here’s to hoping I can stay on track and watch the movies that I record this weekend.
    Blessings everyone!

  23. Review: A Carol For Two -
    Family-friendly? Yes -
    Recommend? Borderline Yes -

This movie could have been so much better with one little change (which I will get to shortly). Still, I enjoyed it, because it was like watching a Broadway revue, filled with many Christmas hymns that were sung beautifully by the two main actors, Ginna Claire Mason and Jordan Litz (who I understand have both been on Broadway). Their voices blended so well together! Also, their acting was spot-on, and you could feel their chemistry growing as the movie progressed. And with one exception, I enjoyed the supporting cast as well.

The main problem (along with the 2024 Christmas movie theme of lying!), is, in a word, Brad! What an obnoxious, self-centered, irritating character! Also, some of the scenes with him were downright ridiculous (like the outdoor double-dating scenes where he leaves her to get advice). The writers could have kept the same premise and made the character likable (which actually would have made more sense, since she would likely have been more drawn to someone like that). Instead, this character hurts - and almost ruins - an otherwise wonderful movie! But, because of the pluses I mentioned, it didn't totally ruin it for me, and so for now, it's a keeper.

  33. Jim, I thought of you tonight. I'm just in a funky mood where I didn't want to watch any movies but I wanted to sit by a cozy fire with some nice music and maybe read a book or do some crochet. Didn't feel like dealing with the messiness of the real fireplaces (need to convert to gas!), so I put in my fireplace dvd with the crackling sounds and piped some Christmas music through separate speakers. But then, all of a sudden, I remembered you talking about asking the Frndly people when the Hallmark yule log would return. So, I checked. And, yay!, Happy & Friends Yule Log (Harvest version) are back!!! I turned off my other stuff and I'm now enjoying all the festive decorations and music and cute animals. (And, bonus, the orange "Happy" cat reminds me of my all-time favorite kitty.) Hope you and others are also enjoying this return of a cozy holiday favorite! ~~Jane

  35. Holiday Mismatch is not family friendly. Stopped watching as soon as they introduced a gay couple for no other reason other than their new agenda. I have noticed that they usually put it in movies where the storyline is more interesting than the typical hallmark movie. I’m guessing that’s so you will be halfway in and be hopefully too invested in it to turn off the tv , thus making their agenda mission complete by making you watch and except the new “normal”. -Anna

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Anna, thank you for letting us know. Don't you hate how they sneak their agenda into an otherwise good movie?!
They're very determined to try and make this nonsense "mainstream", when, in fact, their agenda is actually the minority -- but, unfortunately, a very loud and vocal minority! I suppose they think if they add just minor characters who are homosexual, then gradually we will all accept it as being the new "normal" and family friendly. And, sadly, a lot of people out there are going along with it as being okay. I, on the other hand, am happy to not accept their agenda and hit delete and clear some space on the dvr; so, thank you for the heads up. ~~Jane

  36. “A Carol for Two” – Oh how we enjoyed the music! The leads had amazing voices. Both have been on Broadway in the same play. Plus, they were so adorable! And Paul has fast become one of my favorite Hallmark stars. He is really good. I also got a kick out of Hazel. She was funny. I could have done without the character of Brad though. He honestly got on my last nerve. I don’t believe he added anything to the story. But, besides that negative thing, I recommend this sweet little movie.

  37. “Our Holiday Story” – This was another winner! We really thought this movie was engaging, sweet and also funny. Nikki and Warren had really good chemistry. They were believable as a couple, and we enjoyed their “how we met” story. Of course, there was a misunderstanding, but it was quickly addressed which was a good thing. We also liked Warren’s daughter and boyfriend. Their story was believable, and I thought they were also a good match. I also recommend this movie.

  41. Review: Tails of Christmas -
    Family-friendly? Yes -
    Recommend? Noooo!

Well, at least the handful of animals they showed were cute.

I don't know who the producer(s), director(s) and writer(s) were on this film, but they managed to make this one of the worst Christmas movies so far this year! Here's why:
    * The script (Part 1) - It seems like everyone just speaks one line, and then another person speaks one line, and so on. No deep or interesting conversations. And the lines are usually so bland or predictable. (Oooh, I wonder, maybe AI wrote this?!)
    * The editing - Because of the "one-liners", there is a lot of back-and-forth shots of the people talking. The problem is in the cutting between scenes - the non-talking person (or the dog) in the scene is often facing a different direction than when the camera cut away. Much more care should have been taken.
    * The acting - The main problem! Except for Ash Tsai, everyone's acting seemed very stilted! And the worst, unfortunately, was the lead actor, Eric Guilmette. It was if he was reading his lines for the first time off a cue card! There was absolutely no feeling in his (monotone) delivery, like he was just going through the motions. Ash was better but still not great.
    * The script (Part 2) - Eric's character Caleb has a crisis of faith because of his accident, and his pastor and friend gives him some encouraging words that would hopefully restore his faith. So I am expecting that, by the end of the movie, Caleb's faith would indeed be restored. But nothing - Unless I missed it, he gets the advice, and that's it! How could this not be resolved?! (C'mon, GAF!)

There were a couple more things, but I think that's enough. I feel bad - it's a good plot; if only it had been handled by more competently!

  42. Just wanted to let y’all know that a new Christmas movie with Jessica Lowndes and Daniel Lissing called Renovation Romance is now on Hulu. It was really cute! A heads up that both of them have significant others when they start the movie because I know that can bother some people with storylines like that. But I do feel that the breakups are very interesting and the communication is rather profound during those scenes so I feel like it was surprisingly handled pretty well. Even though I don’t mind those storylines usually I was a bit nervous at how they were going to handle it considering it was going to be two relationships ending. It was so good to see Jessica Lowndes and Daniel Lissing together again! I loved them together in A December Bride and watch it a couple times each Christmas season because it makes me smile so it made me really happy to see them together again in a new movie. They really have great chemistry together! While it was clean, they are working with couples who aren’t necessarily married yet that are renovating homes (at least in the opening scene and in the relationship between Daniel Lissing and his significant other) it is never implied that they live together. Really enjoyed the movie!

  43. “My Sweet Austrian Holiday” was so cute! Yes it was predictable but sometimes those are the best kinds of movies to watch on a night in with family. I thought Will and Brittany had such natural chemistry together and I also loved the actress who played Maya and how she had her own little romance going on. I would watch this one again.

  44. Short Review (for a change!): Our Holiday Story -
    Family-friendly? Yes -
    Recommend? Okay for a one-time watch -

Nikki and Warren are two of my favorite Hallmark actors. And, as usual, their acting was top-notch! But the story just didn't grab me. I guess I didn't really care for the back-and-forth between the past and the present (and it didn't help that NIkki and Warren didn't seem to age over the years). Also, while I have complained in the past about too many near-misses in some movies, here we have the other extreme - too many bumpings-into-each-other for me to find it believable. Still, these two are always fun to watch, and so I am glad to have watched it. But it's not a keeper for me!
