Movie: Crossword Mysteries: Riddle Me Dead

Premiere Date: Sunday, April 11, 2021

Starring: Lacey Chabert and Brennan Elliott

Storyline via Hallmark: Tess gets invited to be a part of a popular game show, but when the host is unexpectedly murdered, she and Detective Logan O'Connor seek to uncover who was behind it all.

Reviews:
πŸ”Ž "Crossword Mysteries "Riddle Me Dead" was wonderful! Loved every moment! The ending was perfect. It is family friendly as always. Not sure I would let kids watch murder mysteries though. This world we live in is traumatizing enough to little minds." ~kitkat

πŸ”Ž "Really enjoyed this new "Crossword Mysteries: Riddle Me Dead" - even more than "Terminal Descent." I loved the dynamic between Lacey Chabert and Brennan Elliott - with the addition of Jon Cor! It was fun to have this little love story in the background of this intriguing mystery. I would say it's a great family friendly mystery for ages 12 and up. I enjoyed the riddle aspect and trying to follow the clues to solve who-dun-it!" ~Net

Movie: MatchMaker Mysteries: The Art of the Kill

Premiere Date: Sunday, April 18, 2021

Starring: Danica McKellar, Victor Webster, and Bruce Boxleitner

Storyline via Hallmark: Angie Dove gets Det. Carter's attention by stumbling on a murder at an art museum. Angie's father Nick is on his own case, trying to solve a series of petty thefts at the museum.

Reviews:

πŸ”Ž "Matchmaker Mysteries: The Art of the Kill is family-friendly. Gave in and watched and I was actually surprised that it was good for families. Plot was fairly good. It wasn’t too hard to figure out the Whodunnit and why. Of course they tried their usual to distract you. I really liked how Bruce Boxleitner got to have his own mystery which *spoiler alert* sort of helped solve the bigger mystery. I hope this isn’t the last of the family-friendly Danica mysteries." ~Anonymous

πŸ”Ž "Anonymous, I have watched The Art Of The Kill twice and enjoyed it both times. Danica and Victor are a good match. Love them together! Have always enjoyed Bruce Boxleitner. The light-heartiness of this mystery is fun to see." ~kitkat

Please note: Typically, the mystery movies (due to some violence) are best suited for ages 12 and up. See reviews above. If you'd like to add a review, on whether a film is family-friendly, please share in comments below.

Happy sleuthing! Net

  1. Do you think that there will be about 10 or 12 Crossword Mysteries down the road?

    1. Chris, I'd say that's a definite possibility! I have a feeling Lacey Chabert and Brennan Elliott will keep going as long as the viewers and Hallmark still want these mysteries.

    2. The only sad thing about this is gthat lacey only seems to do Crossword movies and Christmas, like CCB and Andrew Walker. I love that they are Hallmark regulars, but I miss them in other types of movies, not all just murder mysteries.

I am so excited for Aurora How to con a con, the commercials for it are funny, I love Phillip (in the books he is her step brother). I do wonder how come we cant have a mystery that is maybe a theft, or missing person, why they all have to be murders. I mean how many murders has Roe been involved in her tiny little town?

    3. Sabrina, Same here. Hope "Crossword Mysteries" doesn't keep Lacey too busy that she won't be able to do an Hallmark Ch. original movie. Would like to see Candace do one, too, but she seems awfully busy with Aurora. Like you, I'm super excited to see the new one! The commercial is really cute. But... as you mentioned, why can't the mystery be something other than murder? It does seem odd for one person to come across so many dead bodies unless they are a detective.

That's another reason why we need more "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" movies - it's a feel good mystery!!!

    4. Yes, Net More SSD movies please. People love them too. They were mysteries but not all murders.

  2. When does Christmas in July start for 2021 on Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movies and Mysteries?

    1. No word on Christmas in July on Hallmark, quite yet, Chris. I'm thinking we will most likely hear something about it - in mid or late May. Stay tuned!

  3. I'm looking forward to these but am really getting a bad feeling now we're not going to get any more Ruby Herring Mysteries.

    1. I wouldn't give up, just yet... I'm sure the network still likes this mystery series. I'll be sure to keep a look out for any clues.

Maybe someone will interview Taylor Cole before "One Perfect Wedding" premieres and perhaps, they will ask her about "Ruby Herring."

  4. I wonder about Emma Fielding Mysteries 4 was filming or not last April as the same day as Wedding March last year

Emma Fielding Mysteries has only 6 books

Emma Fielding Mysteries could be filming 3 more movies

    Wedding March 6 & 7

I haven’t heard if the movies done filming or not because due coronavirus

  5. I love both of these mysteries. Happy new shows are on the way.

Ruby Herring is my most favorite mystery. Fingers crossed on this! Thanks Net for your encouraging words.

  6. Mystery movies are expected to have a little violence but as far as the rest of the movies on the Movie and Mystery Channel, they seem to be free of LGBTQ subplots...so far. The non-family friendly movies seem to be only from the Hallmark Channel. Sadly, where in the past I played the Hallmark Channel most of the day and evening, now I make sure the movie is appropiate before having it on. I did send an email to Crown Media expressing my aversion to the LGBTQ subplots. My sister has totally boycotted ALL Hallmark products.

    1. Curly, I understand you & your sister on this completely. I've struggled with this myself. I'm very careful what I watch on any channel or streaming service. Sadly, even some stations (other than Hallmark) we think we can trust, can let us down, at times, too. I'm glad you sent them an e-mail. I think more people should express their feelings and concerns on this. I certainly have. And I'm encouraged that the ratings have been not as great for movies with the progressive content versus those that are family friendly, and I'm thrilled to hear that the ratings for "When Calls the Heart are excellent." That gives me great hope that they will at least continue some wholesome programming like this.

  7. any truth to the rumor that the garage sale mysteries are coming back with Courtney Thorne Smith?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Rocco, I had not heard that rumor. That is interesting. I think I'd rather see Courtney do more "Emma Fielding" mystery movies, than replace Lori Loughlin, but that's just my take.

Would love to know... what do you think about it?

      Thanks so much for sharing!

  8. What Mysteries movies that are no longer on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries that you can only see these movies on DVD?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Chris, As far as I know, it is only "Garage Sale Mysteries" at this point.

There are some older movies, too, like "Jesse Stone," "Jane Doe" and "McBride Mysteries" - that are rarely played.

Did something else come to mind for you?

      Delete
    2. There's also the Dick Van Dyke mystery series "Murder 101." Four movies in this series aired on the Hallmark Channel between 2006 and 2008.

  9. They used to play Jane Doe last year. But since Christmas they haven't played them at all. I think they played McBride too although I didn't really watch them. But I don't remember them playing the Postables shows and movies much last year, but have already this year and are playing again easter weekend I think.

I am sad they had Columbo on the weekend AM's for like a few weeks, and now its Monk. I do like Monk, I just enjoyed the Columbo's too. Its been a few years but they used to play Father Dowling Mysteries.

Anyone hear anything on Chesapeake Shores? I haven't seen it going into filming, so I am pretty sure they wont have it again this year. Cause we all know we get nothing from Mid October til end of year but Christmas. Jesse Metcalf said earlier in the year it would be this summer, but if it hasn't gone into production yet, that is not possible. Then I wondered if it is covid cause Diane Ladd, and some of the others are in the vulnerable category.

    1. Sabrina - Yeah, that is so true... they play some of the older Hallmark mysteries very rarely, except "Mystery Woman."

As for "Chesapeake Shores," Sherryl Woods, who wrote the books the series is based on, shared on Twitter that the cast will be back to film Season 5 beginning April 12. I'm glad to see it's returning and yet, I'm wondering where the show will go in this new season. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they added some new characters and progressive content. Sherryl tagged many of the familiar regular cast members, but did not mention Diane Ladd.

    2. this is good news on Chesapeake Shores. That probably doesn't put this done til August at best unless they make it a short season. I mean I have been wanting a winter or Christmas type season of CS, so maybe they could start it sometime in Sept and play thru Christmas as just the only 1 hour time slot with no Christmas. I know they have the movie already filmed they really need to play that soon before everyone looks too different. Thank you Net!!!!

  10. What Hallmark Mysteries Movies that you have seen on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries that you have on DVD?
