  1. Hallmark and Lifetime don’t need to reinvent the candy cane here. When you think about it, Christmas isn’t really at the heart of these Christmas movies at all. There are trees and stockings and true love and all that, sure. But Christmas movies aren’t religious. They’re not even all that spiritual — they’re just spirited. There’s no reason the films that throw some Hanukkah in should be any different.

  2. 11 Hallmark Stars Reveal Their New 2020 Movie Plans
Cameron Mathison: While Mathison doesn’t yet have a movie on the books for 2020, he did share that “these films come together quick” and he could be added to one shortly before filming begins. “Sometimes they’ll attach an actor and the people once they’ve already got the location, they know the script, they know everything, and they’re just gonna plop in a few actors,” he said, before adding that he does need a little bit of notice, though, because they’ll have to find someone to fill in for him on “Home & Family.”

“I probably will start having those conversations in the new year,” he said. “…It would be kind of fun if I did a Christmas movie every year. I mean, I’m just putting that out there. It would be kind of fun if that was an annual tradition.”

Holly Robinson Peete: “We have one [‘Morning Show Mysteries’] that we know we’re gonna do, but I wanna do many more,” the actress told IBT. “I’m really hoping that we do more because I love working with Rick Fox and Al Roker and wanna see more mystery movies.”

Ashley Williams: Aside from working on getting a Christmas duology with her sister, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, off the ground at Hallmark, Williams shared she’s also working on another project she hopes the network will greenlight.

“I’ve got another project that they don’t even actually know about yet. But I have the script. I got my friend to write it, and it’s really sweet.”

She added: “This is about a small-town girl, who is an architect and a designer, who gets paired up with this guy, that she absolutely cannot stand, to rebuild and restore the town hall, where everybody gets married and takes their pictures. And they may or may not fall in love…It’s called ‘Built for Love.’”

Niall Matter: The “Christmas at Dollywood” star filmed a movie called “Country at Heart” that was set to debut on Hallmark Channel during their Fall Harvest 2019 event, but it was ultimately pulled from the schedule. Matter, who is “really excited about that film,” told IBT he believes it will now be coming out fall 2020, instead.

Chad Michael Murray: While the “Write Before Christmas” star didn’t share exactly where the next feel-good movie he’s working on might end up, Murray did say during his Christmas Con 2019 panel that these types of movies make him happy because “putting out good content in the world that’s not gratuitous is a beautiful thing.” He went on to say that “Hallmark's been doing a great job with that, so, I thought, ‘What am I doing? It’s time to start writing some of my own.’”

He continued: “I am working on creating one right now that I’ve been writing and breaking down that would be kind of a gift from me to you guys because it’s a lot of winks and nods to things over the course of the last 20 years of my career, with other actors that I’ve worked with to bring into the mix. It's like...winks and nods, with Christmas. It’s charming. It’s cute. It’s exactly what it’s supposed to be. And I love it and hope to be able to bring it to you guys.”

Lacey Chabert and Jonathan Bennett: Bennett told IBT the “big thing” they’re trying to do for next year is a 2020 Hallmark Christmas movie starring him and Chabert. “I think it’s time to reunite us on camera,” he added, before going on to explain what he might want the movie to be about.

“I think we should go somewhere in New York City. Like a ‘Sleepless in Seattle’ in New York City,” he said. “We’re gonna start the hashtag, #JonathanAndLacey2020, and tag Hallmark Channel.”

Of the idea of doing a movie with her fellow “Mean Girls” alum, Chabert said it “would be so much fun. I love him so much. He’s such a good guy, and we’ve known each other forever.”

Jack Wagner: During the “When Calls the Heart” panel as Christmas Con 2019, Wagner revealed his wedding movie franchise isn’t over yet, and he’ll be doing a “Wedding March 6” in the spring.

Rachel Boston: Earlier this year, Boston starred with Paul Campbell in “The Last Bridesmaid,” written by Nina Weinman, and she’s hoping to make a sequel to it in 2020.

“That one did so well, and we had so much fun making it,” Boston told IBT. “…We have our whole outline in. We’re approved for development, and that’s what we’re working on. That would be the first one for 2020.”

She continued: “I’ve got [that] sequel that’s in development right now, and I’ve got a few [other] projects that are in development. Two for Hallmark. And then two others that we’re working on that we will absolutely bring to Hallmark, first and foremost, and then we’ll see where else they could go.”

  4. Hallmark Movie Actors Reveal Fellow Network Stars They Want To Work With Next

Lacey Chabert (“When in Rome”): “Cameron Mathison. I see him at ‘Home & Family,’ he’s such a good guy, he’s so talented, and I consider him a friend and it would be fun for us to work together.”

Farm’ film she did, and she and I just laughed the whole time, and I think she’s really a strong woman and an interesting person, and I would definitely work with her again in a second.

“And we worked with Brooke Shields briefly on ‘When Calls the Heart’ a couple seasons ago, and I thought she was really awesome, too, and a lot of fun.”

Rachel Boston (“Check Inn to Christmas”):

“We’ve got Jesse Metcalfe out there. Maybe I can work with him?”

    Cameron Mathison (“The Christmas Club”):

“Nikki DeLoach and I have been talking about it for a long time. Rachel [Boston] is amazing, Lacey [Chabert] is amazing. I’ve already done a movie with Danica, so I can’t be too greedy.”

He continued: “Also, Jill Wagner. Missy, [aka] Melissa Claire Egan… We worked together on ‘All My Children,’ and it would be fun to do a movie with her. I think that would be really cool actually.”

Chris McNally (“When Calls the Heart: Home for Christmas”):

“I really like Emilie Ullerup. I worked briefly with her on ‘Hearts of Christmas,’ but she and Kris Polaha were working on that together, and I’d love to work with her again. We had one quick scene and that was it. I just think she’s such a nice person. I think she’s super talented. She’s someone I would like to work with in the future. She’s as sweet and kind in person as she is onscreen and very down to Earth.”

    Nikki DeLoach (“Two Turtle Doves”):

“I would like to do a movie with Wes Brown. I love him. He’s a dear friend, and we were supposed to do a movie together years ago where we were supposed to sing... [so], I’d love to do a movie involving music with him.”

(For an update on this possible pairing, check back on Friday to find out what DeLoach had to say about the 2020 Hallmark movies she’s working on.)

Andrea Brooks (“When Calls the Heart: Home for Christmas”):

When she eventually gets to lead her own Hallmark movie, who would Brooks like to play her leading man?

“I have like 10 people coming to mind. I will say, maybe for the sake of the Hearties, Paul Greene and I have such a great dynamic. We’re such good buddies, and, of course, our characters have so much in common on ‘When Calls,’ and we’re always shooting at the same time because, of course, our characters are both based out of the infirmary. He’s always an easy choice for a lead. Also, the two of us really love singing together, playing music. That’s what we spend a lot of our downtime on set doing on ‘When Calls the Heart.’ So, I think it would be really fun to do maybe a musical project. And I know Paul would be more than fantastic doing something like that.”

She added: “But, also, I love Chris McNally, working with Jeremy Guilbaut, there’s so many wonderful people.”

Jonathan Bennett (“Christmas Made to Order”):

“The big thing we’re going to try for next year is me and Lacey [Chabert]… [also] I wanna work with my girls Rachel Boston, Danica McKellar. Those are my two girls. I could work with these girls all of my life.”

Cindy Busby (“A Godwink Christmas: Meant for Love”):

“[I] met Andrew Walker at the Hallmark TCAs…and I feel like I’d heard of him a lot and I hadn’t ever worked with him or really met him in person, so I would actually really love to work with him because he also is originally from Montréal, as am I, as well. I feel like we might bring some nice east coast Canadian flavor to it, which would be awesome.”

She continued: “I would [also] really love to do a Hallmark movie where the two leads — there would be a love interest in them — but where the two leads are female. Maybe do a movie with Kellie Martin, who is a friend of mine, and I absolutely love working with her. Or even Lacey Chabert. I’ve never personally met her, but I think she seems like a really cool person, and there’s something really fun about two female leads.”

Ryan Paevey (“Christmas at the Plaza”):

“I think Jessica Lowndes and I very nearly started something together and then, I think, scheduling didn’t work out, but I don’t think there’s anybody in the Hallmark universe that I wouldn’t like to work with.”

Julie Wolfe (“Christmas in Montana” screenwriter):

“Ashley Williams, for sure. For the guys that I haven’t had... I want Brandon Routh [from 2014’s ‘The Nine Lives of Christmas’] to come back and do another one. Desperately. That’s it, that’s what I want.”

Jill Wagner (“Christmas Wishes and Mistletoe Kisses”):

“Jaclyn Smith. I’ve always, always, always loved her. I idolized her. I was just hoping that maybe she could be in one of my films... She’s been somebody that I’ve just always really, really found so interesting. And I loved ‘Charlie's Angels,’ and I just idolized her. So, that would be really, really cool. Maybe should could play my mom?”

    Julie Gonzalo (“Flip That Romance”):

When asked if she’d like to reunite with former “A Cinderella Story” (and “Freaky Friday) co-star Chad Michael Murray, Gonzalo said: “My God, that was like 15 years ago. I haven't seen him since. Who knows? Of course. I mean, I would never say no to getting reacquainted with an old co-star. That’s fun times. Like, ‘How are you doing?’ …People would love it.”

I had a small part on the ‘Blueberry Farm’ film she did, and she and I just laughed the whole time, and I think she’s really a strong woman and an interesting person, and I would definitely work with her again in a second.

  9. One Winter Wedding* – TBD
Starring: Taylor Cole, Jack Turner, Rukiya Bernard and Dewshane Williams

Cara (Cole) and Ben (Turner) return for their nuptials in this follow up to 2019’s One Winter Proposal and, the film that started it all, 2018’s One Winter Weekend.

*Note: The script is still being worked on for this third installment in the ‘One Winter’ saga, so I imagine we won’t see it until Winterfest 2021 — unless they change the season it’s for.
