Praying for California + A Weekend Guide to New TV Movies and Episodes from Your Favorite Series...

Hello, my dear friends...

Before I share this weekend's usual movie post, I want to say that my heart and prayers go out to those affected by the devastating fires in California.

Cameron Mathison (Home Sweet Christmas, Hannah Swensen Mysteries) has shared that he and his family have lost their beloved home in Altadena, and my heart breaks for them, but Praise God, he and his family are all safe. It's hard to even imagine what they and so many others are going through right now. I was encouraged to see the outpouring of love and heartfelt comments to Cameron Mathison on social media from other actors from Great American Family and Hallmark, including Jill Wagner, Brennan Elliott, Candace Cameron Bure, Danica McKellar, Laura Osnes, Autumn Reeser, Antonio Cupo, Alison Sweeney, Barbara Niven, Gabe Hogan, Andrew Walker, Lacey Chabert, Jen Lilley and MANY others.

The news tries to create a tense divide between the networks, but behind-the-scenes, there is no drama. The actors who star in these movies are all friends in real-life, and they wish and pray the absolute best for one another and their families. The true friendship they shared was a true blessing to see at the height of this awful tragedy.

I posted Cameron Mathison's IG video showing the charred remains of his home and his emotional interview with Entertainment Tonight at the end of this post. It is tough and heartbreaking to watch.

My prayers are with all of you who have homes, family and friends, businesses, schools, etc... in this area. May God be with you and protect you all. Please be safe.

Movie News:

It's hard to transition into talking about movies after this, but I hope, maybe, some who are anxious over what is happening with the fires can relax and escape into a lighthearted movie, at least for a little while. Perhaps, that little bit of normalcy and familiarity can bring them some peace.

I'm posting this weekend's movie news a little earlier - since Hallmark Mystery has a Thursday movie premiere this week, and UPtv has some news, too.

The Hallmark Channel has the next Winter Escape premiere, and Great American Family has the cable premiere of a sweet romantic comedy.

Plus, I have news on three popular TV series, and INSP and Western Bound honor Law Enforcement on Law Enforcement Day, which is on Thursday, January 9th!

See details below...

**************************

Thursday, January 9, 2025:

Storyline: Jane seeks justice for a teenager who’s wrongfully imprisoned for murder. She and Detective John work together to prove the teen’s innocence and help reunite him with his mother.

Premieres Thursday, January 9, 2025
at 8pm/7c. on Hallmark Mystery

Note: This movie previously premiered on Hallmark+

Movie Reviews:

πŸ”΄πŸ”Ž Review: The Jane Mysteries: A Deadly Prescription -
Family-friendly? Yes -
Recommend? Nope -

I did not watch the Jane Mystery from last year, so maybe there was something in that movie that would have made me appreciate this one a bit more. Or maybe not. Anyway, I am starting from scratch with this series. And it is a big No for me. Because...

* The mystery is boring, and it is not too difficult to solve. Also, the culprit is shown about 2/3 into the movie.
* The acting is bad. Jodie Sweetin may be okay in some romcoms, but in a more serious role like this, she is in over her head. She overacts and simply cannot be taken seriously. Stephen Huszar, on the other hand, was too low key and seemed like he was never into his role. And there is absolutely no chemistry between these two.
* The script has too many cringe-worthy subplots and one-liners which make Jodie's character come across at times as silly or careless or unknowledgeable or rude.
* And what is with the songs? Jodie must have in her contract that she is to sing a few songs in these movies, because, while yes she is a very good singer, they are uncalled for and stop the flow of the movie.

Here's an example that includes some of the problems I have mentioned: Jodie and Stephen enter a nightclub where they are to be inconspicuous. The owner tells Jodie the singer can't perform and can she step in(?!), and the next thing you know she is belting out this song on stage like she has been singing it her whole life!

Okay, I guess you can tell that I didn't care for this movie at all. I will not be bothering with the other two movies in this series, so. sorry, I won't be doing any other Jane Mystery movie reviews. -Mark25

πŸ”΄πŸ”Ž The Jane Mysteries: A Deadly Prescription - This is the second film in The Jane Mysteries, and I’m still not feeling that certain spark between Jodie Sweetin and Stephen Huszar’s characters.

The relationship I appreciate the most is the one between Jane (Jodie Sweetin) and the woman who plays her aunt. Since her aunt has been going through a hard time since her husband’s passing, it’s nice to see Jane being there for her and continuing to search for clues to his cold cases.

Which gets me to my next point… this is a murder mystery; therefore, the movie is best suited for pre-teen age and up. Otherwise, it is a family-friendly movie.

The mystery itself is fairly intriguing with a number of suspects.

If any of you are fans of the Christmas movie, The Most Wonderful Time of the Year (you know, the one with Uncle Ralph), then you might recognize one of the suspects as the guy Jen is supposed to marry, Richard (the guy with the shiny shoes). His hair is a little longer in this mystery, so he looks a little different, but yeah, it’s him. I did a quick check of his IMDB, and it looks like this is his first movie with Hallmark since TMWTOT. Interesting, huh?

Anyway, if you really enjoy mysteries, then you might want to check this one out. ~Net

Hopefully, you all will enjoy one of the movies or TV shows this weekend.

It's heartwarming to see the Christmas movies back on Friday nights. I'm always in the mood for a Christmas movie all year round, so I'm delighted to have these return. GAF will have three this weekend and the next! (Christmas Schedule)

I have seen A Snapshot of Forever, and I can tell you it is a delightfully sweet rom-com, and you can see mine and Mark's review above for The Jane Mysteries: A Deadly Prescription.

I've also seen the 1st episode of Hudson & Rex, season 2; it is another fascinating mystery for the series with lots of interesting plot twists. (Please note: due to violence, it is best suited for a mature audience)

As for the rest of the movies and shows, I haven't pre-screened them. I would love to hear your thoughts on them after they air.

I haven't seen Heartland in a long while, but I'm thrilled to see that Mallory is returning for this special episode.

I want to commend INSP and Western Bound for honoring our law enforcement. As we've seen with the fires in California, it is the law enforcement, firefighters, and EMT who go into danger when the citizens leave for safety. I am grateful for all they do to keep us safe. God bless and protect them all.

Have a Blessed,
Peaceful Weekend, Everyone,

I hope you all have a wonderful first weekend in August! As we transitioned from July to August, it was hard to say goodbye to Christmas in July movies airing on TV, but it won't be long now until the Christmas movies are back in late October.

I'm still trying to soak up Summer, though, and these sunshiny days, but it's been sooo hot here in the Midwest lately with high humidity. This weekend we are expecting some storms to go through, so I'm hoping that will cool things off a bit. Plus, we still certainly need the rain, so that is a blessing.

As far as TV goes this weekend, I'm most looking forward to the new Great American Family movie premiere, Romance at the Vineyard, and another new episode of Hallmark's When Calls the Heart. I'm quite curious about Nathan and Faith; are they or aren't they involved? Hearties fans, what do you think?

What are YOU watching this weekend? Please share in comments below.

Please Note: I haven't pre-screened the new movies above. If you'd like to share a review after the movies air, please share in comments. Thank you!

Blessings to you all,

NEW in June on UPtv - Heartland, Mystic, and more...

Besides UPtv's New *June Grooms* movies, Our Dream Wedding, The Engagement Backup, A Romance Wedding, and Planning on Forever (which you can see in further detail - here), you can also see new episodes of TV series on UPtv - throughout the month of June.

Tonight, UPtv will have the third episode of Heartland, Season 15, titled: Bad Moon Rising. I have pre-screened this episode, and I can tell you it is family-friendly and quite intriguing. A number of thefts have been occuring in the area; Lisa ropes solid and steady Jack (who is used to defending his family on his own) into installing a modern security system and young, intelligent Parker (who is cute, but can sometimes be a know-it-all) volunteers to help. People in town, of course, claim the thief is one of the troubled youths Amy is helping through Cooper's therapy center, Higher Ground, and they want Lou, as the mayor, to shut the program down. This episode is so engrossing, you'll easily be drawn in to the story and want more (trust me!) when the credits roll.

Heartland's new episode airs tonight (Thursday, June 2, 2022) at 8pm/7c. on UPtv!

Also, premiering tonight on UPtv is Mystic. I haven't had the opportunity to screen this series, yet, but it also has a storyline that revolves around a young girl, troubled teens and horses. Mystic will air immediately following Heartland at 9pm/8c. on UPtv.

If you've missed the first 2 episodes of Heartland, then you can easily catch up tonight. UPtv is re-airing episode 1 at 10pm/9c. and episode 2 at 11pm/10c. I did want to mention there is one very brief mention of a man's partner during the second episode. Other than that, both episodes are warm, engaging, and family friendly.

UPtv is also premiering The Wedding Planners in June - Friday nights at 8pm/7c, beginning this Friday, June 3rd. This series is about two sisters and a brother who take over their mother's wedding planning business after her passing. Please know, I have not pre-screened this series.

Hope you discover something you will enjoy!

Blessings on your day, Net

Heartland Season 15 Premiere on UPtv - TONIGHT!

Heartland
Season 15 Premieres in the US
on Thursday, May 19, 2022
at 8pm/7c. on UPtv

I was able to screen the first episode of Season 15, and I can tell you it is a heartwarming, family-friendly start to a whole new season. The episode begins with the patriarch, Grandpa Jack, looking over his land and herd of cattle. I thought this was a strong introduction, with an incredible view of the beautiful Heartland ranch.

Amy's daughter, Lyndy, who somehow looks just like a little Amy, has a special role in this episode, as she's working on a sweet surprise for her mama's birthday and going to school (sort-of) for the first time. I was impressed at how well she said her lines at such a young age.

Unfortunately, we don't see Lou and Peter's daughter's Georgie or Katie in this episode. In fact, Georgie does not appear in this season, at all, and Katie (not sure why) is played by a new actress.

I won't spoil any of the storylines, but we do see Lou in season 15, as she's still working through her love issues and her father, Tim, who returns from his trip with a major surprise. Plus, there is, of course, a special horse with ties to the past, who needs Amy's special attention.

See the sneak-peek trailer below...

UPDATE: I received this comment regarding Heartland and I wanted to make you all aware: "Just a heads up, there is a same sex relationship in this season. I had suspicions last season, and it is definitely mentioned this season. It’s not a major storyline, but so sad it was introduced." (Thank you, Anonymous, for letting us know.) I wanted to be certain everyone here knew about this - so you can choose if you will watch more of Season 15.

Happy trails to all of you, Net

HEARTLAND SEASON 15
WILL DEBUT ON THE NETWORK MAY 19
WITH MYSTIC AND THE WEDDING PLANNERS LAUNCHING IN JUNE

NEW MOVIES

EVERY SUNDAY NIGHT

ATLANTA – April 21, 2022 – UPtv, the television destination for uplifting entertainment, announced three upcoming scripted series to the network’s programming slate. In addition to debuting a premiere movie every Sunday night as part of the “Love Sundays” programming destination, UPtv will premiere the new season of fan-favorite series Heartland on Thursday, May 19 at 8 p.m. ET (10 episodes) followed by the U.S. debut of Mystic on Thursday, June 2 at 9 p.m. ET (13 episodes) and miniseries The Wedding Planners on Friday, June 3 at 8 p.m. ET (8 episodes). Heartland, the 5th most streamed series in 2021 according to a recent Nielsen report*, is set in the rolling foothills of the Rockies in the fictional town of Hudson, Alberta. While some journeys end, others are just beginning. The Bartlett-Fleming family has learned a hard lesson: life is short, and you have to live each day to the fullest. In Season 15, they will put what they learned into practice. Last season, Amy said goodbye to the past. This season, she embraces the future - raising her daughter and working with the horses who continue to heal her while branching out into a new phase of her life and profession. She is moving forward and feels determined to leave a legacy. In fact, Jack, Lisa, Lou and Tim have all decided that now is not the time to pull back, but to ramp up, to create new dreams and fulfill old ones. And, as they always do, the family will pull together to help each other... and will ultimately end up stronger than ever. Heartland stars Amber Marshall, Michelle Morgan, Shaun Bartlett, Chris Potter and Baye McPherson.

Set on the fictional peninsula of Kauri Point, New Zealand, Mystic tells the story of Issie Brown and her new-found friendships with the town's teen horse riders, and their efforts to save Kauri Point from an industrial development that threatens it. Originally launched internationally in 2020, Mystic stars Macey Chipping, Laura Patch, Cathy Downes, Kirk Torrance, Antonia Robinson and Max Crean.

The Wedding Planners revolves around Paige, James and Hannah Clarkson when they inherit their mother's wedding business and quickly become passionate about the most important day of a couple's life…planning beautiful, one-of-a-kind weddings. The Wedding Planners is a Canadian series starring Kimberly-Sue Murray, Madeline Leon and Michael Seater.

My Quick Take:

Please note, except for previous seasons of Heartland, I have not seen these upcoming series or episodes; therefore, I do not know if they are all family friendly. I do know that Brian Bird, who is the executive producer and co-creator of When Calls the Heart, is also executive producer on Mystic. He is a Christian, who is well-known in the entertainment industry.

ABOUT HEARTLAND via UPtv:

A family drama series set in the rolling foothills of the Rockies, “Heartland” follows life on the Heartland ranch as Amy Fleming (Amber Marshall), her older sister Lou (Michelle Morgan) and Grandfather Jack (Shaun Johnston) deal with the challenges of running the ranch that has been in their family for generations. Heartland is not like any other ranch — it is a horse ranch with a special mission of treating troubled or neglected horses and finding them new homes, and Amy has inherited her late mother’s uncanny ability to work with, understand and help heal those horses.

Season 15 Episodes:

1 "Moving Toward the Light" - Amy must help a skeptical performer, and her pair of matched liberty horses work together again; Jack unexpectedly buys Mitch's herd of cattle; Tim returns from his trip with a surprise for everyone.

2 "Runaway" - A wild stallion escapes from Sam's ranch during a burglary and Amy will stop at nothing to find him. Lisa's latest business investment is at risk, and Tim and Jessica adjust to life back at Heartland.

3 "Bad Moon Rising" - Amy discovers a teen with a gift for horses at Cooper's therapy center; Lou is pressured to shut the center down over recent break-ins; Lisa has Jack install a security system with Parker's help.

4 "Sins of a Father" - After a break-in at Heartland, unwelcome memories of his father flood Jack. Amy and Logan work with a wild horse, and Tim and Parker form an unlikely duo to find the stolen goods.

5 "Blood and Water" - Amy and Shadow find themselves in jeopardy on a cattle drive and Lou feels overlooked when the issue of Heartland Beef's succession plan is raised. Also, Parker and Katie babysit Lyndy and things go awry.

6 "Happy Ever After" - Tim and Jessica's attempt to throw a "small party" snowballs out of control; Lou struggles to hide a revived past relationship from the family; Amy and Logan continue to work with the wild horse.

7 "Bluebird" - The man who shot Ty returns to Hudson and Amy and the rest of the family grapple with how to react; Jessica enlists Katie and Parker's help to deal with a demanding Dude Ranch guest while Lou is away.

8 "Brand New Day" - Hudson hosts a lumberjack competition and Amy must retrain a Clydesdale and his owner to compete in the draft horse race. Also, Tim throws his hat in the ring and Lou tries to avoid a date with Fred Garland.

9 "The Long Game" - Amy enters Spartan into an endurance race after realising he's not ready to retire, Jack is set on gentling an unbroken horse despite the danger, and Lou and Katie reveal hidden feelings while camping.

10 "Leaving a Legacy" - Amy debates what to do when she receives money from an unexpected source and Lisa's racing plans are in jeopardy after an accident. Also, Tim worries when Jessica is hiding something and Lou makes a big decision.

Are you looking forward to watching Season 15 of Heartland? I have seen almost every episode of this series; there have been ups and downs along the way, happy times and sad times, too, as there is in any family. I took it pretty hard when one of the main cast members passed away last season. I'm still not over it, to be honest, but the characters I love and the  heartwarming stories - always seem to draw me back in.

The question I'm asked repeatedly is this: Is Heartland family-friendly? My answer is this... 9 out of 10 times, Yes! However, unfortunately, there have been some moments here and there throughout the seasons, but it is typically family friendly. It's always beautiful to see this strong family support and love each other through every season of life and the outdoor country scenery is always gorgeous, too. I haven't seen Season 15, yet, but I'm expecting much the same for Amy, Lou, Tim, Grandpa Jack, Katie, and Lyndy!

Happy trails to all of you! Net

Heartland Season 14 - Coming to UPtv this Summer! Details Here:

Heartland image via: UPtv

Mark your calendars, Heartland fans - the drama series returns in the U.S. with new episodes Thursday, July 8th, on UPtv!

Heartland originates on the CBC channel in Canada. Season 14 already aired there from January to March. In May, Season 14 became available in the U.S. through UPtv's streaming service UPtv Faith and Family.

Season 14 of Heartland finds horses healing Amy as much as Amy heals horses. While Amy struggles with a life-changing challenge, the entire town of Hudson will have to deal with an unexpected disaster that threatens to derail Lou’s first term as mayor. But, the family will pull through together and be stronger as a result. Family is courage, and times change.

Also, in Season 14, along with most of the regular cast members, you can also look for two well known Hallmark actors, Kevin McGarry ("When Calls the Heart") and Gabe Hogan ("Murder, She Baked").

Here's an extended trailer of Heartland's Season 14:

Also, if you haven't heard, Amber Marshall (who portrays Amy), has already announced Season 15 is happening!

I am often asked if Heartland is a family-friendly series. I would say 9 out of 10 times it is; however, there have been some issues with language, drinking and although it is rare, there have been some adult situations. I have not viewed the 10 episodes for Season 14, yet, but I hope there will also be some touching family moments, as there have been in all of the previous seasons of Heartland.

Happy trails to y'all, Net
