ICYMI: Christmas DVD News with Jen Lilley, Brant Daugherty and more!

I recently added a new Christmas DVD collection, which includes the movie "Mingle All the Way," to my *2022 Christmas Movies on DVD* post. I wanted to be extra certain you all knew about it since we've been waiting for "Mingle All the Way" to be released on DVD for such a long time... since 2018!

"Mingle All the Way" stars the well-loved Jen Lilley ("Royally Wrapped for Christmas") and Brant Daugherty ("The Baker's Son"). Here's the basic story synopsis via Hallmark... " "Mingle All the Way" is a new networking app designed to pair busy professionals together for upcoming events, without long-term romance. Molly, founder of the app, is determined to prove to her family that it is a success. Therefore, she joins the app, and meets another busy professional, Jeff. When Molly and Jeff are matched, they are both horrified to realize they’ve already had not one, but two disastrous previous encounters. Nevertheless, they agree to stay matched for all their respective upcoming holiday engagements. As the pair gets closer, perhaps their business arrangement might turn into something more this holiday season."

I think many viewers have been taken by this sweet match-up of Molly and Jeff, how Molly rediscovers her Christmas spirit, and how Jeff realizes his work location should be secondary to being with family and friends.
"Mingle All the Way" is one of those cherished, classic movies I know I can always look forward to watching over and over again!

Also included in this DVD collection are two other family-friendly films: "Christmas Joy" and "Finding Santa."

I love how "Christmas Joy" begins their story with Danielle Panabaker walking by a store-front window and looking at the beautiful nativity scene inside. It is warm and cozy-feeling film. Here's the storyline: "Joy Holbrook is an intuitive market researcher in DC who has captured the attention of the account’s CEO and is about to get a sweet promotion, just in time for the holidays. She receives an urgent phone call from home and she rushes back to Crystal Falls, NC to help her Aunt recover from surgery and is reunited with her former crush, Ben. To keep her Aunt focused on healing, Joy volunteers to take Ruby’s place with the town’s legendary baking competition, the “Cookie Crawl,” much to the amusement of Ben who knows Joy has absolutely no idea of the Herculean task before her. Though Joy initially refuses Ben’s attempts to “co-captain,” she begins to soften and let him in, all the while remembering that there truly is no place like home."

"Finding Santa," starring Jodie Sweetin and Eric Winter, is also one of the three films included in this DVD collection. It's also an endearing story of coming home again. Here's the storyline via Hallmark: "Grace, a single woman who lives and breathes Christmas 365 days a year, has been in charge of her small New England town’s famous Christmas parade since she moved back home and took over for her late parent’s Christmas store. When the long-standing Santa in the parade, Tom, falls and hurts himself, Grace is on a mission to find the perfect replacement in time for the televised broadcast. The only option is Tom’s son Ben, who hates Christmas. As Grace and Ben come together in their festive hometown, she inspires him to find his Christmas spirit-while he inspires her to follow her dreams."

I hope you will enjoy this new DVD collection!

'A Merry Christmas Wish,' starring Jill Wagner & Cameron Mathison, will premiere Saturday, November 5, 2022 in GAC Family's new annual tradition, Great American Christmas! This all new Christmas movie is set on a family farm. See the story details below...

Storyline via GAC Family: "Janie (Jill Wagner), a rising marketing executive living in The Big Apple, returns to her hometown of Woodland Falls when her Great-Uncle Randall passes away. Janie is not prepared for the gift Randall has bestowed onto his last living relative: the family homestead, Janie’s childhood home. While not immediately sure what to do with a fully functioning farm, Janie agrees to honor Randall’s final request to plan and host Woodland Falls’ annual Winter Wonderland as Randall’s gift to his community. Randall has even arranged for his farmhand, Dylan (Cameron Mathison) to help at the event, which is being held in the farm’s sprawling barn. Aware that her Manhattan boyfriend is anxious for her to return to the city so the pair can jet off to a previously planned holiday on the beach, Janie begins to feel an unexpected emotional tug about living life in a more authentic, meaningful way."

The two new acquired films are Merry Kissmas and The Christmas Calendar...

Merry Kissmas first premiered on the ION Network in 2015.

Cast: The movie stars Brant Daugherty (Mingle All the Way), Karissa Lee Staples (Betting on the Bride), David O'Donnell (Christmas Under Wraps), and Doris Roberts (Mrs. Miracle)

Synopsis: Unwinding her relationship from a controlling choreographer, Kayla happens to fall for a handsome man, Dustin, who she shares a magical kiss with on a chance elevator encounter. But, when the choreographer begins to make nice and Dustin is the one who makes some missteps, Kayla is torn on which man she really loves.

My Take:
I watched this movie when it first premiered back in 2015 on ION, and honestly, I haven't watched it since. I distinctly remember it not being a keeper for me. To be honest, some of the behavior is rather odd and unusual. I truly wanted to like it, originally, since I really like all of the main actors involved, but it just wasn't for me. An older woman (played by Doris Roberts) kisses a younger man, Dustin (Brant Daugherty), in an elevator without his approval. Later on, Kayla (Karissa Lee Staples) kisses Dustin in the same elevator, while she is somewhat involved with Carlton (David O'Donnell), who is a self-absorbed, egotistical, two-timing, rude choreographer with an awful British accent. Throughout the movie, Kayla somehow can't decide between Carlton or Dustin, which is rather annoying. While I love Doris Roberts in the Mrs. Miracle films, I didn't think this role highlighted how wonderful she is as an actress. The same can be said for Brant Daugherty, who has an excellence performance (in my opinion) in Mingle All the Way.

The Christmas Calendar first premiered on UPtv in 2017.

Cast: The movie stars Laura Bell Bundy (Season's Greetings), Brendon Zub (Cut, Color, Murder), and Johannah Newmarch (When Calls the Heart)

Synopsis: When Emily, a struggling baker in a small town, receives a handmade Christmas calendar from a secret admirer, the local residents become obsessed with finding out the identity of the sender.

My Take: I've seen this movie several times on UPtv since it first premiered back in 2017. It is family-friendly and very sweet; I'm a fan of Laura Bell Bundy's previous Christmas movies. The storyline in this movie reminds me a lot of My Christmas Love or last years premiere, Eights Gifts of Hanukkah. It's a delightful sort of mystery trying to figure out who sent Emily the Christmas calendar. Overall, this Christmas movie is lighthearted and entertaining, a delicious Christmas treat!

Please note: I have not pre-screened the new movies airing this weekend. If you'd like to leave a review, please share in comments below.

We did, however, receive a wonderful review from Florence (who is one of the top reviewers here!) for UP's new movie. Here's what she shared with us...

"The Nature Of Romance is a solid and pleasant Rom.Com - nothing ground-breaking but definitely family friendly with a good performance from Brant Daugherty and I think most here should enjoy it" - Florence

Thank you, Florence, for sharing this news with us. I'm sure many (myself included) will enjoy watching "The Nature Of Romance" now based on your review!

I'm hoping "Road Trip Romance" is as cute as the promo looks. I love both actors, Natalie Hall and Corey Sevier, and I have a feeling they'll be great together!

To be honest, "Heart of the Matter" seems rather sad to me, so I'll be passing on that movie this weekend. Maybe I'll catch it sometime later on. If you plan on watching it, I would love to hear your take, good or bad.

I am, however, looking forward to the new episode of "When Calls the Heart" on Sunday night. I can hardly believe season 9 is almost over. Where did the time go? Sure hope they find out what's wrong with Bill's health and the coal mine doesn't actually reopen. And I hope we get to see Lee receive the good news that Rosemary is expecting! I'm not a big fan, as many of you know, of Elizabeth and Lucas, but I do think an engagement may be coming. As for Nathan, who knows? The key art poster for this season did feature Nathan standing next to Mei Sou, so I would be surprised if they didn't end up together, somehow, or at least, having that dinner date Nathan asked her to go on many episodes ago. Hopefully, season 10 news will come soon!

I hope you all have a bright and sunny weekend!

Blessings! Net

Is there anything special you are looking forward to watching this weekend? I'm curious about the new Hallmark rom-com with Brant Daugherty, but the actress is new-to-me, so... we'll see!

I'm also quite curious about the new mystery! Nikki DeLoach and Andrew Walker are well-known for their extensive resume of great Hallmark movies. Should be interesting to see how this mystery goes for the two of them; however, since they've already done movies together, they will surely have excellent chemistry in this new one. (This is actually Andrew's second HMM mystery, since he previously starred in "Wedding Planner Mystery." Unfortunately, they only made that one movie.) I presume this will be the first movie in a series of Curious Caterer films.

Please note: I have not pre-screened the new movies listed above. If you'd like to post a review on whether a film is family-friendly, please share in comments.

I'm also very grateful UPtv is airing programming that honors the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. I hope you all have a delightful weekend as we prepare our hearts for this upcoming Holy Easter Week.

God's blessings to you all on this Palm Sunday! Net

SHINING HIS LIGHT:

Jesus Comes to Jerusalem as King

12 The next day the great crowd that had come for the festival heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem.

13 They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting,
“Hosanna!”
“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”
“Blessed is the king of Israel!”

14 Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, as it is written:

15 “Do not be afraid, Daughter Zion;
see, your king is coming,
seated on a donkey’s colt.”

16 At first his disciples did not understand all this. Only after Jesus was glorified did they realize that these things had been written about him and that these things had been done to him.

17 Now the crowd that was with him when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to spread the word.

18 Many people, because they had heard that he had performed this sign, went out to meet him.

💮💮💮💮💮💮💮💮💮💮

Aloha with Love

Original Air Date: May 1, 2022

Starring: Trevor Donovan, Tiffany Smith, Matt Corboy, Kathleen Kinmont, Branscombe Richmond

Story-line via UPtv: Gemma, a big city architect, flies to the Hawaii to handle the estate of her late Aunt. At her Aunt's request, she must first renovate the house. Ben, a handsome country-boy contractor, helps her revive the home and in the process revitalizes Gemma.

Movie Review:

🌸 "I am curious about the opinions of others on Aloha With Love. Trevor Donovan is a favorite but this movie did not do him justice. There was no chemistry between the lead lady and Trevor. All those rings in her ears were distracting." ~kitkat

🌸 "Aloha with Love was sooo sweet! A big win for UP TV." -Maria

🌸 "Aloha with Love is family friendly, and I enjoyed seeing the handsome Trevor Donovan again, but I just didn't get a feeling of any chemistry between him and the lead female, Gemma." ~Net

💮💮💮💮💮💮💮💮💮💮

Yellowstone Romance

Original Air Date: May 8, 2022

Starring: Stephanie Bennett, Christopher Russell, Aadila Dosani

Story-line via UPtv: As maid of honor, Olivia plans her best friend’s bridal shower at a ranch where handsome rancher Travis shows her that life, and love, could be great on a ranch.

Movie Review:

🌼🐎 "Actress Stephanie Bennett (The Nine Lives of Christmas, Listen Out for Love) portrays the main lead Olivia, the big-city girl, who is completely taken off guard when her roommate and best friend, Amber, declares she is getting married after dating a guy for 6 weeks. Olivia thinks it’s too soon for them to make such a commitment, especially since Amber will be moving from New York to live on a ranch in Wyoming.

While Olivia is stewing over Amber’s decision, characters are shown casually drinking at a restaurant/bar setting. To help her friend see the light, Olivia plans a surprise get-a-way to a real-life working ranch, so Amber can get a taste of what life will be like after she marries. Along with Amber, Olivia invites their friend, Justin, along for the trip, who frankly acts like one-of-the-girls. He even gets dressed up in colorful western wear. To my knowledge, unless I missed something, nothing is specifically mentioned regarding Justin’s behavior, but he's rather obvious.

After arriving at the ranch, the three friends: Olivia, Amber, and Justin, stay in the same one room lodge - in separate beds. I wasn’t too pleased with those arrangements, but, thankfully, nothing indecent is shown. Also, note: there is an outdoor shower at the ranch, and Olivia is barely shown as she’s beginning to take a shower in her bathing suit. This was actually more innocent than it sounds – she screams because the water is cold and Travis comes running. Who is Travis (?), you may ask…

Christopher Russell (A Lot Like Christmas, Chasing Waterfalls) is quite handsome as Travis McCleary, the rugged cowboy rancher. He fits the role perfectly, from the moment he rides up on his horse. It’s interesting to watch these city slickers try their best to fit in with Travis and his country life.

Overall, as far as this ranch movie goes… I’m on the skip it side of the fence due to the bedroom sharing (2 girls and a guy) and outlandish behavior. The three friends, Olivia, Amber and Justin, acted over-the-top and rather silly, at times, which I personally didn’t love. I did like Christopher Russell as the cowboy, actor Bruce Dawson (Nantucket Noel, Aurora Teagarden), as his father, and the country setting was gorgeous, along with the beautiful horses. Plus, the romance that develops between Olivia and Travis is rather sweet, but that wasn't enough to save it for me.

Anyway, that’s my take. Perhaps, Yellowstone Romance will rope you in, but this was not a keeper for me." ~Net

🌼🐎 "Net, thanks first for your great review of Yellowstone Romance. I watched but was well prepared thanks to you. The three friends, I agree, totally inappropriate the guy friend staying in the SAME room!!!!! Not needed. And the shower was ridiculous! You could see right through the boards. If they are literally supposed to be a ranch getaway then I don't think that would pass inspection.

Anyway, I liked Christopher Russell too, but the 3 friends were like immature teenagers the whole trip. Could've been great otherwise. Also, an okay one-time watch for me." ~Allie B

🌼🐎 "Yellowstone Romance...I turned it off because of the obvious "gay" man sharing a room with the girls. I really like Christopher Russell acting...so it wasn't easy turning it off, but I felt (for me) it was the right thing to do." ~Anonymous

🌼🐎 "Really enjoyed Yellowstone Romance!" -Maria

The Nature of Romance

Original Air Date: May 15, 2022

Starring: Brant Daugherty, Kimberly Daugherty, Breanne Hill, Alexandra Harris

Story-line via UPtv: Travel writer Jackie Sinclair goes luxury “glamping” with her best friend Annette. When she arrives at the nature reserve, she bumps into devilishly handsome park ranger Sean, who offers to be Jackie’s guide in the hope she will write an article in one of her glossy magazines. It’s a bumpy ride at first, but as the pair embark on their adventure, sparks soon fly… could this be love?

Movie Review:

🌳 "The Nature Of Romance is a solid and pleasant Rom.Com - nothing ground-breaking but definitely family friendly with a good performance from Brant Daugherty and I think most here should enjoy it" - Florence

🌳 "The Nature Of Romance could not hold my interest. As much as I love watching Brant Daugherty, this movie had something missing. I was so disappointed." ~kitkat

🌳 "The only other one I saw was The Nature of Romance. I lost interest in it partway through, but I did watch to the end." ~dstoutholcomb

🌳 "I thought The Nature Of Romance was enjoyable and sweet - very family friendly! Brant and Kimberly Daugherty, who are married in real-life, were great to watch on screen as the leads. The comedy in the movie was fun. Overall, it was a delightful watch.

💮💮💮💮💮💮💮💮💮💮

Harmony in Paradise

Original Air Date: May 22, 2022

Starring: Liliana Tandon, Vivica A. Fox, Brian Krause, Thony Mena

Story-line via UPtv: Amelia, a respected wildlife journalist, is tasked with covering baby manatees in Puerto Rico about to be released into the wild, when she meets a handsome conservationist who helps her discover all the treasures the island has to offer.

Movie Reviews:

🌳 "Harmony in Paradise is family friendly. (I watched an early screening) It’s a story about a writer who steps out of her comfort zone. (it kind of gave me a Love on the Slopes feel)

Amelia Dey usually writes her travel stories at home, but this time her boss sends her to Puerto Rico to write about the release of the manatees, who were rescued after the hurricane. She not only puts her notebook down and finds adventure, but she may also discover love. The scenery, by the way, is gorgeous!

There are some cheesy moments, and I’m not sure I felt a major connection between the leads, but all the characters were mostly likable. It was nice how everyone was so kind and welcoming to Amelia. This was an okay one time watch for me." ~Net

🌳 "Harmony in Paradise was very nice!" -Maria

💮💮💮💮💮💮💮💮💮💮

Love Under the Lemon Tree

Original Air Date: May 29, 2022

Starring: Maddison Bullock, Anthony Coons, Casey O'Keefe

Story-line via UPtv: After being laid off from her job, budding photographer Beck realizes her dreams and enters a lucrative destination photography contest, heading off to the island of Serenity island. Staying at the Lemon Tree Farm, Beck is determined to help the handsome owner save his picturesque farm with the power of social media.

Movie Review:

🌳 "Love Under the Lemon Tree - The lemon farm in this movie is lovely and the leading lady is bubbly and sweet. I felt the romance was a bit rushed, and I didn’t like the continual usage of Oh my G— throughout the movie, which was definitely unnecessary. Minus that, it was family friendly, but not a keeper for me." ~Net
