Storyline via Hallmark: As Birdie and Alden Case’s relationship strengthens, they discover a mutual interest for True Crime. But when their favorite podcaster is found dead, it is up to The Cases to listen to the clues.
Saturday, September 14, 2024:
Storyline via Great American Family: Jamie, an aspiring filmmaker, heads back to her hometown for some inspiration. She finds it in ex-boyfriend, Nick, who still works at the small-town movie theater where they both first fell in love.
Movie Review:
π¬ Love’s Second Act - This is a lighthearted, family-friendly rom-com. The movie was a little slow for me, at times, but it was still a nice watch. It’s the standard story of a woman, Jamie, played by Jodie Sweetin, who leaves her hometown years ago, then she returns and reconnects with her family and her childhood sweetheart, Nick, played by Tilky Jones.
Of course, Nick's family business, the local theater, is in danger of being sold by Nick’s father (played by George Wendt, famously known as Norm on the sitcom "Cheers"). The theater is a special, memorable place for Nick and Jamie, where they worked together as teenagers.
A side note for "Full House" fans… I thought it was kind of funny that Jodie played the older sister, and her sister’s name, of all names, was Stephanie.
Overall, "Love’s Second Act" is a pleasant, feel-good movie with a happy ending. ~Net

Storyline: After losing her fortune, an heiress moves to a rural farm where she mistakes her handsome neighbor for the handyman. To live up to her family's legacy, he helps her compete at the county fair.
Movie Reviews:
π I watched The Heiress and the Handyman on HMN, the guy who plays Jodie Sweetin’s assistant does have mannerism of a gay man, but nothing is ever said about it. He appears twice for a total of about 3 minutes, at the beginning & end. The movie is okay, but the story has been done. Think Harvest Moon, but this movie isn’t nearly as good. It felt cheesy somehow and Jodie’s acting felt stiff, kind of fake. It’s a one time watch for me. -Allie B
π Heiress & Handyman was really cute. It compares well with UPTV type of movies. The "gay" assistant...nothing was ever said clarifying he was gay. The movie needed more, but was worth a watch for the pig & animal scenes alone. It feels very traditional with hints of Harvest Moon, but not as comedic unfortunately. It's not a bad watch at all & is actually fall themed. I didn't even notice the wig people seem to be obsessing over. –Megan

As for the three NEW movies airing this weekend... well, without going into a lot of detail, I'll just say I know some of you aren't too keen on the actors involved with these films due to various statements made in the past. I absolutely understand that. However, for those of you who are planning to watch one or more of the new movies mentioned above, I hope the reviews above will be helpful to you.
Note: I have not pre-screened the new mystery, The Cases of Mystery Lane: Death is Listening. If you'd like to share a review after this movie premieres, please do so in comments below.
In addition to starring in two new movies this weekend, Jodie Sweetin actually has a third premiere. Her latest mystery, The Jane Mysteries: A Deadly Prescription, premiered on Hallmark+ (streaming service) on September 10th. Have any of you seen it, yet?
Whether you watch something new or old, I hope you find something to enjoy this weekend. I just love that Hallmark Family is playing all of the episodes of Little House on the Prairie in honor of their 50th Anniversary! I may get lost in that marathon! Be sure to visit my Little House post here to see more details and my favorite Little House episodes.
Only watching GAF this weekend. -Maria

For whatever reason I cannot get into the movies with Jodi Sweetin, I just don’t feel she has chemistry with any of her costars….and it’s hard for me to get into a movie and believe it if I can’t feel the chemistry/connection between the actors. And it’s a shame because I do enjoy both of the male actors she is with in both movies….
ReplyDeleteI will be recording the mystery movie on Hallmark Mystery, though. They seem more like cousins to me, rather than husband and wife though….either way I appreciate a new mystery movie to watch!
Have a blessed weekend everyone!
~Paula
Same for me, Paula.
DeleteI have not been a huge fan of her acting since she came to Hallmark. I find it hard to watch anything she is in.
Delete2 Jodi Sweetin’s movies air on September 14, 2024; both The Heiress & the Handyman & Love’s Second Act on both Hallmark Channel & Great American Family
ReplyDeleteHad an amazing birthday today! Went shopping and went out to lunch, even got a couple of hallmark DVD's from Amazon! -Maria
ReplyDeleteMaria, Happy Birthday, Sweet Friend!!! πππ I’m so glad to hear you’ve had a fabulous day!!! Shopping is such fun on your birthday!
DeleteAll the best to you!!! May God bless you abundantly in the year ahead!!! ππ»
Happy Birthday Maria!! That does sound like a great day! Hopefully you had nice weather too!
DeleteI’m not to sure about the mysteries. Both actors are big on LGTBQ. Lately Hallmark’s been making them cheesy anyway(besides the Hannah Swenson and Curious Caterer). I might wait to see if they are clean.
ReplyDeleteWonderful news! Actress Mamie Laverock (who suffered a horrible fall back in May) made a surprise visit to the Hearties reunion where she was met by cheering fans and her
ReplyDelete"When Calls the Heart" co-stars, Erin Krakow, Jack Wagner, Pascale Hutton, Kavan Smith, Chris McNally, Andrea Brooks, and Kevin McGarry! Mamie used the help of a walker to assist her as she walked into the room. It was a beautiful sight for all hearties to see. Mamie spoke briefly and thanked everyone for their support and prayers.
I was so happy to see this, I just had to share this news with all of you! Please keep praying as Mamie has more healing to do.
Yes!!! I am so happy to hear this!! I knew she was finally home, but did not know she was well enough to make it to the Heartie reunion. Praise God!!

After who I found out who will appear in S12, I feel like Hallmark is just endlessly laughing at fans like me. LHOTP reruns are what drew me to the network 10 years ago, the first trailer I saw for WCTH was during those reruns, and now, after the cruel way they ruined WCTH, they are now bringing in Melissa Gilbert?!
ReplyDeleteHow can network execs be this cruel to it's fanbase and still expect to keep it's ratings up? -Maria
I tried watching The Heiress and the Handyman on Hallmark Plus but could not get past that hair they put on Jodi, her acting was horrible and I felt sorry for Corey Seiver having to do that movie with her, he’s so good and his acting was as good as always. This one needs to be out on the shelf in my opinion!~Susan Ann
ReplyDeleteSusan Ann, that’s exactly what my mom said! I actually likes Jodi but said she could not get past the hair. It’s crazy what bad styling/wardrobe/makeup can do to a movie!
ReplyDelete~Paula
I skipped watching Jodi Sweetin movies that I didn’t record them yesterday by I’ was watching Hailey Dean Mysteries on Hallmark Mystery
ReplyDeleteLove's second act is okay. -Maria
ReplyDeleteI watched “The Cases of Mystery Lane” and it was okay. I was able to guess the killer pretty early on, and I enjoyed seeing some familiar faces in this movie. Like I mentioned before, Alden and Birdie don’t really have much chemistry, they seemed more like old college friends to me than husband and wife. I think it would have been better to have them be just that, and show them fall in love over time, because they have no chemistry and them being a married couple just wasn’t believable for me. I did appreciate that she finally came clean about her poker playing. One thing I did like about the movie was that they now are private investigators so they were asked by the police to help, so they weren’t just being annoying/pushy and interfering with a police investigation. And I’m not sure if there are any in the process of being made, but there was a little cliffhanger at the end setting up for another movie. All in all, not my favorite series but not the worst.

Hi all,
ReplyDeleteMy hubby and I enjoyed 'The Cases of Mystery Lane: Death is listening'. Yes, it can be campy and Paul is a bit over the top at times. But, I like him and Aimee as so cute together. Adorable! They mystery was good. I am not used to Samantha playing against type. And, the end was very surprising! Hope to see where that curveball leads.
I watched Hearts on Fire(Second Chances on Hallmark) on UpTV this weekend and saw scenes that were not shown when it aired on Hallmark several years ago. Has anyone else noticed this? There were scenes with Jeff confronting the firefighter that was w his Dad's partner when his dad perished in a fire.
