With great sadness, we say goodbye to actress Shannen Doherty.
Over the weekend, on Saturday, July 13, 2024, Shannen passed away from cancer, at the age of 53. Sadly, she has been battling with this disease since 2015.
Shannen made her acting debut in the 1981 TV series Father Murphy. This is where Michael Landon, star of Little House on the Prairie, discovered Shannen and cast her in the ninth season of Little House as Jenny Wilder.
In addition to the beloved, popular series, Shannen reprised her role in three Little House on the Prairie TV movies in the early/mid-80s.
Her acting career continued with various series through the years, but Shannen's most iconic role came when she was cast as Brenda Walsh in Beverly Hills 90210, which ran from 1990-2000.
Shannen also reprised her role as Brenda for the 90210 and BH90210 spin-offs.
Luke Perry, who portrayed Shannen's love-interest in Beverly Hills 90210, also sadly passed away in 2019, after suffering from a stroke at the age of 52.
TV movie fans may also recall Shannen's 2006 ABC Family Christmas movie, The Christmas Caper.
Shannen also starred alongside When Calls the Heart actor Kavan Smith in the Hallmark fall-themed movie Growing the Big One and several Lifetime suspenseful films.
I will always fondly remember Shannen Doherty in the later years of Little House on the Prairie, a show I will always dearly love and cherish. Shannon brought a young, cheerful, and spunky spirit to the long-running series as Jenny Wilder, Laura's and Almanzo's niece.
I also recall watching some of Beverly Hills 90210, off and on, with my older siblings. It was such a huge, popular show at the time, just before we had DVDs or streaming was even thought of.
Recently, Shannen Doherty hosted a podcast titled, “Let’s Be Clear,” where she discussed her health issues and interviewed former co-stars.
My heart and prayers are with Shannen's dear family, close friends, and devoted fans.
for they will be comforted.”
