Happy Weekend, Friends!

Are you ready for two scoops of romance?🍨🍨

This weekend is serving up the sweetest *Summer Nights* treat on the Hallmark Channel with the premiere of “Double Scoop,” starring Taylor Cole and Ryan McPartlin. This ice cream-inspired romance is sure to melt hearts!

Plus, what a treat to have Chonda Pierce (Roll With It), Elisa Donovan (Clueless), Jacklyn Collier (The Engagement Plot), and Patrick Muldoon (A Boyfriend for Christmas) also in the cast!

(By the way, in case you didn't know, Chonda Pierce is a Christian comedienne; I've seen her performance in person and she is fabulous!!! She's hilarious and so down-to-earth. Her testimony and joy for Jesus truly touched my heart! I can't wait to see her role in “Double Scoop”!)

And for your second scoop of romance this weekend... it’s time to say “cheese” with the Great American Family network premiere of “As Gouda As It Gets”!

It’s a double helping of delicious-themed fun movies!

See all of the details below...

Looking to boost her business presence and sales, the town’s annual Cheese Festival arrives just in time with a $50,000 first-place prize. Up against her biggest competitor, Brie’s vintage smoked gouda is considered a frontrunner-so much so that Jacob Wolfe, a former chef and influential cheese blogger, approaches about profiling her delectable creation, leading their friendship to take a turn for romance. Complications arise when Matt Lambert, the handsome and charismatic new CEO of Lambert Farms (and Brie’s largest competitor) starts to show his interest in acquiring her shop. Racing against the clock and a disastrous power failure, Brie and Jacob must recreate a prize-worthy entry if she has any hope of keeping her shop and potentially winning more than she initially hoped for.

Premieres Saturday, August 23rd, 2025

Movie Review:

🎬 "I'm glad that I recorded it. Happily, what was missing was the bickering as in Christmas on the Menu. That was nice to see and with no back story to overcome." ~Namegirl

🎬 I saw "As Gouda as it Gets" when it first premiered on BYU in 2021. I remember it being lighthearted and family-friendly, and since it was Kim Shaw and Clayton James' second movie together, they had good chemistry. ~Net

Weekend thoughts...

For those of you on the East Coast, my heart and prayers are with you as you’ve endured the effects of Hurricane Erin. While I am grateful to hear this storm was not as severe as some in the past, I know it still brought uncertainty, flooding, and damage. May the Lord continue to watch over you and provide safety.

I'm wishing everyone a peaceful, joyful weekend. May the new movies bring comfort to you all, and perhaps you can also enjoy a simple treat, like a scoop of ice cream, to make your movie night a little sweeter!!!🍨🍦

If you’d like to share your thoughts or a review after watching either movie, please feel free to share in the comments below... I always love hearing from you!

By the way, in case you missed it, you can see my take on As Gouda as it Gets and my sweet friend Namegirl shared a movie review - both posted above, under the movie's info.

And if you missed the premiere of Mystery Island: Play for Keeps last week on the Hallmark Channel, you can catch it's premiere Friday night, August 22nd on Hallmark Mystery at 8pm/7c. and another encore Sunday, August 24th at 6pm/5c.🔎🔎

Paula (who is also a great friend and contributor here at It's a Wonderful Movie) recently shared this review with us... “Mystery Island Play for Keeps” - surprisingly I really enjoyed it! The others were not bad, they just fell flat for me, like I kinda got lost and didn’t pay as much attention as I normally do…. **spoiler alert*** This one however kept my attention with the mystery cheating suspicions and how she seemed to have a spark with her ex fiancé. I still didn’t guess the killer at the end though Lol" ~Paula

Happy Movie-Watching, Everyone!
Blessings to you all,

🐟 Hallmark Announces Summer Nights Movie "Catch of the Day" (Plus, an Extra Tasty Treat 🍨)

Wonderful news! Hallmark Channel is reeling in romance and flavor this summer with the movie, Catch of the Day, starring Emilie Ullerup (Chesapeake Shores) and Michael Rady (A Joyous Christmas).

This new film, revealed by TVInsider, is part of Hallmark’s Summer Nights lineup and is set to premiere Saturday, August 30th, at 8/7c.

Also, spicing things up is culinary expert and bestselling author Katie Lee Biegel, who not only co-wrote the movie but also appears on screen, bringing her passion for food to life in a story that blends heartfelt connection with coastal charm.

It's Not Complicated: Simple Recipes for Every Day
by Katie Lee Biegel

Set against the picturesque backdrop of Montauk, Catch of the Day is described as a feel-good celebration of seaside living, great food, and the ties that bring us home.

Storyline via Hallmark Media: Sophie (Ullerup) is a rising culinary star on the verge of becoming executive chef at a high-end Manhattan restaurant. But when her sister Abigail calls with news that their beloved family seafood spot in Montauk is floundering, Sophie returns home to help. What was meant to be a short visit turns into a journey of rediscovery, of her roots, her passion for cooking, and a surprising second chance at love with her teenage crush, Cam (Rady), a local fisherman whose quiet strength and charm leave Sophie rethinking everything she thought she wanted. Lee also appears in a cameo as a food blogger who plays a pivotal role in the plot.

Plus, I also wanted to mention, there's another Hallmark movie anticipated to premiere during Hallmark's Summer Nights in August, titled Double Scoop! And if you're guessing it has something to do with ice cream, you're right!

The movie stars Taylor Cole and Ryan McPartlin and there's a wonderful supporting cast that includes: Elisha Donovan, Patrick Muldoon, Chondra Pierce, Jacklyn Collier, and more!!!

Storyline via IMDB: Nora (Taylor Cole) and James (Ryan McPartlin) were once the dream team at a top New York ad agency, but now they're locked in a frosty competition for the sweetest client of all: a charming small-town dairy farm that churns out the most delectable artisan ice cream in the country.

I'm hoping this ice cream-themed movie will turn out to be a tasty treat!

Two side notes:

#1 - As I mentioned above, Christian Comedienne Chondra Pierce is among the Double Scoop supporting cast. I have seen her speak in person, and she was absolutely wonderful. I laughed so hard, and through her testimony, I cried. If you have the chance to see her speak, I encourage you to do so. You can see her tour date schedule - here.

#2 - If you haven’t checked out Chonda Pierce’s comedy Roll With It yet, it’s currently streaming on Roku (free with ads). It’s seriously funny and a great watch from start to finish! One small caution: Roll With It is generally family-friendly, though there is a brief conversation about online dating that may not be ideal for younger viewers. A woman also mentions she is a single mother of a young child. Overall, the heart and humor in this movie are such a joy to watch!

Happy Movie-Watching!

🎄 "Dognapped: Hound for the Holidays. One part early in movie is not family friendly. I deleted the movie so I don't know about the rest of it. The main actress is on a phone call with her mother about coming home for Christmas and bringing a friend to stay. The mother says "[She] can stay in your sister's old room, she can't come home this year because she's headed to Florida with her new girlfriend to meet her family". Main actress says "Ah! Movie Reviews:

🎄 A Very English Christmas. Ugh. No. Couldn’t make it all the way through. This movie had almost everything I dislike about Reel One movies. Frustratingly horrible (!*@!*#!) sound issues – either too soft and muffled or too loud (Reel One needs to fire all their sound people!). Ridiculous story premise (but that could be said about many Hallmark/GAF/UpTv movies, as well). Loud music that, annoyingly, overpowers every scene (seriously, need new sound people). Lack of attention to detail – one minute it’s sunny and the next minute after walking one block away it’s pitch-black nighttime. Editing and filming need some help. Horrible acting, mainly by the lead actress. The whole thing just feels like it was written, directed and produced by a tweenager on an adolescent’s budget. The movie did have some nice Christmassy decorations at the craft market and most of the other actors were okay-ish. I think if they got a new lead actress and a new director, had an adult re-write and tighten up the script, and got rid of the technical issues, it could have been a cute low-budget film good for a one-time watch. Who knows? Maybe it got better in the second half? The part I saw was clean, except the sister getting married is already pregnant (so, oops). ~~Jane

🎄 A Very English Christmas - Dear, oh dear. oh dear. 90 minutes of utter boredom, slower than slow-pace, little happening , poor and stilted dialogue. Originally called Christmas in the Cotswolds (a hilly country region in England). Perhaps a Christmas market in a small settlement could be successful at the weekends with tourists etc but in cold and frosty weather it opened early in the morning - utter nonsense. Little chemistry between the leads and the female lead's half-sister whose wedding she has come to organise is already pregnant so not family friendly. I can only offer one piece of advice - if you get the chance to watch this - DON'T. - Florence's rating

Sunday, November 17, 2024:

Storyline: Firefighter Liam and quilting teacher, Amy, come together to make the perfect quilt for Liam’s sister’s Christmas wedding. Two headstrong people discover the importance of putting personal differences aside to create what is most important at Christmas.

Premieres Sunday, November 17, 2024
at 8pm/7c. on Great American Family

Movie Reviews:

🎄 Reel One's A Cozy Christmas Quilt is clean and very sweet. -Maria

🎄 A Cozy Christmas Quilt - This was a surprise - a low budget movie about a fireman and a quilting teacher joining up to make a Christmas quilt for the fireman's sister's wedding. Sounded like a sure-fire recipe for 90 minutes of boredom! But hey, the two leads Kyana Teresa (Amy) and Harmon Walsh (Liam) both previously unknown to me were perfect together with great chemistry.

It was engaging to se Liam try to keep on top of his burgeoning feelings. It started off nicely with friction between Amy and Liam as he had to fail Amy's premises in a fire inspection and there was a side plot of the business threatened with going under.

The movie was full of warmth and humour and the mechanics surrounding the production of the quilt turned out to be fascinating. A little bit different and an unexpected delight - Florence Rating 8.5

🎄 A Cozy Christmas Quilt. Completely agree with Florence - this was a thoroughly enjoyable movie! I was expecting a low-budget movie with typical audio issues and subpar acting, but this turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The acting, writing and directing were well done. (I looked up the director and it turns out he’s been the director on a lot of the bigger-name Hallmark/GAF movies.)

The actors were new to me but I thought they were all good, including side characters. The lead actress, Ferelith Young, was excellent; she was so natural and believable and sincere and warm - I never felt like I was watching someone act. And the lead actor, Harmon Walsh, is a cutie patootie, reminiscent of Kevin McGarry; the chemistry between the two leads felt realistic.

This whole production felt a bit more polished and mature than a lot of the “first-string” movies out there this year (and I appreciated that there was no ridiculous and overblown conflict or big misunderstanding between the couple). The sweet relationship between the brother and sister was a nice bonus.

This one would be a keeper if I had it on my dvr but right now it’s only available via streaming (previously it had been showing on XumoPlay but they took it off and as of January 2nd it’s now playing on the Roku channel – catch this cute movie while you can! Maybe also available on Amazon streaming?). Family friendly. ~~Jane

🎄 A Cozy Christmas Quilt – This movie is like a warm, cuddly blanket… it’s cozy, comfortable, and sweet! And it’s family-friendly, too!

Sparks fly the instant when Liam, a firefighter, and Amy, a quilting teacher, meet. Liam’s sister is getting married and he asks Amy to help him with the task of making a quilt for her wedding present. It’s a traditional wedding gift in their family, and Liam wants to ensure his sister has one on behalf of their deceased mother.

As Liam and Amy work together, it’s plain to see a romance is gently flaring up – as the two are obviously attracted to each other.

Amy is known for working with candles lit around her, which is a terrible fire hazard especially around fabric. I found it to be adorably cute and responsible how Liam would constantly go around blowing them out.

Both characters felt like such real, authentic people. Liam’s the kind of guy who would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it, and as far as being kind and giving is concerned, Amy seems to be cut from the same cloth.

This movie is one of those lighthearted, feel-good movies that leaves you feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. ~Net

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

Please share which Christmas movie you most want to see this weekend in comments below.

The two movies I'm most looking forward to seeing are A Reason for the Season and A Christmas Less Traveled. Both of these Christmas films appear to have an inspirational element, and those are the ones I usually love the most at Christmastime, the movies with depth and meaning that tug just a little at the heartstrings.

Please note: I haven't pre-screened all of the new movies listed above. If you'd like to post a review on whether a film is family-friendly, please share in comments. There are reviews above, however, for three movies: Dognapped: Hound for the Holidays, A Very English Christmas, and A Cozy Christmas Quilt.

Visit the *Christmas TV Schedule* for the dates and times of NEW Christmas movies.

You can find the 2024 Christmas Movie Review post *here*.

SHINING HIS LIGHT:

"Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him."
Matthew 2: 1-2

"When they heard the king, they departed; and behold, the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came and stood over where the young Child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh."
Matthew 2: 9-11

When we think about Christmas travel these days, we mostly think about busy airports and packed highways, as people take planes, trains, and automobiles home for Christmas, but the first Christmas travel was of the three wise men, who followed the bright star in the sky to find and worship the Christ child bringing with them the first gifts of Christmas.

My prayer this Christmas is that we continue, like the three wise men, to seek the true light of Christmas... Jesus!

And now for something extra fun with Candace Cameron Bure! Since the actors can't really talk about their films right now due to the SAG strike, it's enjoyable to see them talk about their other projects. Candace Cameron Bure was on QVC this morning promoting her clothing line, with jeans, hoodies, sweaters, cute tops, dresses, and more!

Here are three video clips from Candace this morning on QVC...

Candace will be back on QVC on Friday, July 21, 2023, for a shorter segment, sometime within the 5pm-8pm show to promote her clothing.

You can also shop the Candace Cameron Bure clothing line at QVC - here!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend planned. The new Hallmark Movies & Mysteries premiere, A Lifelong Love, looks intriguing to me - with a touch of mystery to the story. Plus, I thought Andrea Brooks and Patch May had wonderful chemistry in their previous UPtv movie, The Wedding Fix, so I think it will be fun to see them together again.

UPDATE "A Lifelong Love" Movie Review- I decided to give this movie a try. Around 30 minutes in, Annika (Andrea Brooks) and Ryan (Patch May) are searching for her grandfather's first love, Ruth Barlow. They meet an older woman with that name, who works at a greenhouse nursery. Even though she's the wrong Ruth, they still ask if she'll share her love story with them for a book they are writing. A couple scenes later, this woman, Ruth, proceeds to talk about her wife, Nancy. From there I stopped watching. It was a lighthearted, interesting movie up to that point. I was disappointed they had to include that. ~Net

For those of you who don't have the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries channel, I hope you will have the opportunity this weekend to see both Long Lost Christmas and Time for Him to Come for Christmas. Both are heartwarming films - filled with emotion. I do want to caution that Time for Him may be too deep for younger viewers. Also, another caution, at the intro of Haul Out the Holly, Lacey is living in the same place as her boyfriend, but nothing is shown. You can read reviews for all of these Christmas movies from 2022 - *here*.

Keep cool, everyone, on these hot and humid Summer days, and enjoy the snowy scenes of Christmas in July!

Blessings to you all,
Net
