🌟 SHINING HIS LIGHT: ðŸŒŸ

With "A Christmas Prayer Tradition" premiering this weekend, I thought this would be a meaningful time to share The Lord's Prayer...

"After this manner therefore pray ye:
Our Father which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done in earth,
as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, and the power,
and the glory, for ever. Amen."

~Matthew 6:9-13

  3. Net, I know Crossroad Springs isn't listed, but I think Laura has been a great addition to the cast! The chemistry between her and James is really good and better than Maggie, IMO.

Not great, but not bad. It's your typical "girl comes home and saves this (fill in the blank)", although this may be the first time it's a bowling alley that needs to be saved. Very standard, very predictable, but it's pleasant. Okay for a late night one-time watch.

    1. Mark 25, i agree with youill go a step farther and say that so far, most of movies I've seen are a one time watch. My granddaughters love Christmas movies and we watch alot when they stay over. Not seen one yet that i would recommend that they might like.

  8. Just watched Winter Wonderland and it was alright. I like Ashley when she is paired with a good actor like Small Town Christmas which is one of my favorite Hallmark movies. This actor was not the best actor for her. When I’ve seen him in other movies, I’ve really wanted to like him becuase he seems nice but something is just off and awkward. I feel bad even saying that 😬 The bowling alley was a fun setting and unique even if the storyline is a bit overdone!

  12. The faith in A Christmas Prayer Tradition is even more beautifully developed than in the original film. Shae Robins and Christopher Russell both deliver incredible performances. One of the things we especially appreciate about Great American Family is their commitment to telling stories that celebrate the true meaning of Christmas. Robert

    Recommend? Nope -

As much as I really enjoy both Janel and Daniel as actors, and they are both good in this movie, the movie itself is, well, frustrating! Because (SPOILER ALERTS)...

    * Wouldn't you think that the first question he would ask her after he loses his memory and she offers to help him is, "So, what exactly is our relationship?" or something to that effect. No, he never asks this until near the end. Really?
    * They are supposed to retrace past steps to help him regain his memory. So do they revisit a lot of the places from their past year together? No, they decide for the most part to go to new places or do new things!
    * Instead of his memory gradually returning, it is a little bit, then a little bit more (which by the way, for some reason he doesn't bother to tell her he remembers anything until later), then...wham! He suddenly remembers everything! Kinda unlikely!

Like I said, frustrating! I was frustrated in watching the actions of these two...not knowing how or when to communicate, not knowing what they should do...just frustrated at their ignorance! So that just makes the whole movie a no for me. (For a much better movie with a similar "amnesia" storyline, I recommend Time for Them to Come Home.)

  15. A Christmas Prayer Tradition was a great movie. I didn't want it to end. I love that Shae Robins is a Christian in real life. I love that about GAF alot of there actors believe in God. I hope GAF continues this series every year.

I agree with most about this movie- it was just okay…. Ashley just kind of bores me now and I feel so bad to say that. She is beautiful and I’m sure she is super sweet in real life but I don’t know, her acting just falls flat for me in most recent years. The main guy wasn’t a good match so it made it even less appealing for me, I was doing laundry while I watched this which is never a good sign if I’m just letting it play in the background while I go about my day. The best part of the movie for me was seeing Mary Long. She is in my group of fave Hallmark grandmas/mothers 😊

  18. A Christmas Prayer Tradition – This movie is so beautiful and inspiring! This is such a wonderful choice for family movie night, especially if you're looking for a story that celebrates the true meaning of Christmas!

I was deeply inspired by the many acts of kindness throughout this movie, and how the characters continually looked for both big and small ways to answer the prayers of those around them. Of course, that doesn't mean they don't have their own doubts, struggles, and moments when trusting God's plan isn't so easy.

The sweet scenes between Caroline and her father, Wes (Christopher Russell), truly touched my heart. In one particularly meaningful moment, Caroline struggles to understand why God hasn't answered her prayer when, in the past, it seemed that something always happened whenever she prayed.

Caroline: Every time I prayed, something happened. Why not now?

Wes: Jesus works on His own timing. Not ours. We have to trust that He knows better than us, that His timing will be the right one.

Caroline: What if that isn't enough? What if I could be doing more?

Wes: It's not up to you to do more; it's up to you to trust God.

This was such a beautiful reminder that sometimes faith means letting go of our need to understand everything and trusting that God sees the bigger picture. There are so many other meaningful, touching moments like this throughout the movie, and Caroline's heart is truly something special. Her desire to reach out and help others is truly heartwarming!

The connection between Wes and Natalie (Shae Robins) is really sweet, too. From the beginning, you can see how much their relationship has grown and how they continually encourage and support one another, both emotionally and spiritually. It's lovely to see them walking alongside each other in their faith and relationship. And watching Wes prepare to propose, including the ring-shopping scene, adds some extra fun to the story!

I highly recommend this one for family viewing! It's refreshing to see a child who is far more concerned with granting the wishes of others than adding to her own Christmas list.

Overall, this is such a beautiful story about faith, kindness, and trusting God's timing. It reminds us that we don't have to do grand things to make a difference… sometimes the smallest acts of love can be the very prayers God uses us to answer! ~Net

  19. What if Christmas-
This movie was so sweet! I loved Tom Cavanagh with Lori in this one. I have only seen him in a couple movies, one being the mystery series with Kimberly Williams-Paisley, and he just has such a warmth to him. Although it was in the city it still had such a cozy feeling to it. Familiar storyline of getting a redo at life, similar to the one with Nikki and Andrew and the one with Vanessa and Corey “Take me back for Christmas” (that one is my fave of this storyline!) This one was very predictable of what she was going to do in her new life but still a good message at the end for those married couples in this season of life where they are supporting one spouse’s career.

  20. Hi All!

So far, we watched "Winter Wonderlanes", "Forgotten Holiday" and "What if Christmas". Here are my reviews:

"Winter Wonderlanes" - I am sorry, but there is nothing worth recommending on this one. We were so bored and gave up after around 20 minutes in. I would not recommend this movie even for a one-time watch. Such a disappointment. Joan

"Forgotten Holiday" - Overall, we enjoyed this one. Very good chemistry between the leads. The Christmas Cookie scenes were a lot of fun. Every time I watch a movie with Daniel, I am amazed by how great his American accent is. Also, the woman who played Daniel's mom has been one of my favorite actresses for years. She can convey so much with just one look. My only quibble was I thought they overdid Janel's makeup, in some of the scenes, which I know is trivial, but it was distracting. She is such a beautiful woman and I much prefer her with subtle makeup. Joan

"What if Christmas" - Although my husband and I felt this one took a bit too long to pull us in, we were glad we stuck with it because it ended up being our favorite of the movies we watched. Now, granted we haven't watched "A Christmas Prayer Tradition" yet, so our view will probably change :-) but for now this sweet movie is at the top. I am always on board with films that ring true and are authentic and realistic in how they represent relationships. Lori and Tom's marriage had all of that. I absolutely loved them together. I also felt Lori's close friend added additional layers to the storyline. Some of my favorite movies have 'alternate lives' in them and show that the 'road not taken' isn't always 'flowers and sunshine'. This one is a keeper and I would definitely watch it again. Joan

We are both really looking forward to watching "A Christmas Prayer Tradition"! In fact, we rewatched "A Christmas Prayer" over the weekend. :-)

  21. Review: A Christmas Prayer Tradition -
    Family-friendly? - Of course! -
    Recommend? Umm...A Slight Yes -

Oh, I can hear the rumblings out there! "What?? Only a SLIGHT yes?? What is the matter with him?? Oh, he is so negative!!"

Well, perhaps so. But before I get into the "slight", let me say a couple of things. First, I loved the original movie last year! Under "Recommend?" I said "Most Definitely". In fact, like so many of you, it was my favorite from last year. The original storyline of reaching out and giving to so many others, the emphasis on faith and prayer, the chemistry among the three principal actors...all of this made for a great movie. And it is for these same reasons that I do recommend it - giving, faith, prayer - all once again emphasized.

Maybe because my expectations were so high because of last year, and because of the reviews I read before I watched this a couple of evenings ago, I, well, was let down. And here's why:

    * The storyline was just too similar to last year's. Finding persons who had a need, and fulfilling that need...just like last year. To me it was like the writers said, "Hey, last year's was such a big hit, let's not tamper with a good thing." (KInd of reminds me of when some musician has a successful hit, and then their next song sounds almost identical.) Anyway, I was hoping for something more original and didn't get it.

    * Expect for the young actress (who was great!), the adult actors came across as stiff or wooden to me. I don't know why, but the acting seemed to...rehearsed.

    * For someone who is uncomfortable with his faith, Wes seemed to know exactly what to say to Caroline, and what he said...I don't think anyone - ANYONE! - could have said it better. I love the message, but coming from someone without deep faith, it just didn't ring true.

    * One more, and this made me laugh out loud (which wasn't the intent). SPOILER ALERT: Wes gets a call from the jeweler who had just received a ring that is perfect (all of the "4 c's" are perfect), but it is so special that it is making the rounds to other jewelers. So Wes goes and checks it out, and when it is shown, it is beautiful and huuuge! Wes asks his jeweler if it is in his budget, and the jeweler replies yes. I laughed and thought to myself, "How big a budget do you have, buddy??!!" (FYI - I just checked - a ring like is most likely in the 6-figure range, maybe higher.)

So yes, I liked this movie, but for me it doesn't compare to last year's which I have and will continue to revisit. So...am I forgiven?

  22. I forgot there was a new Crossroad Springs, and I couldn't help but watch almost at midnight! It was so good! James and Heather make such a good match. I felt for Amy. Willis acting stubborn again. I read somewhere where Laura said Kate was so great to work with, so that must mean Heather goes and visits.
Daniel finding out what he did... can't wait until next week!

  23. Hi Net,

Well, as expected, I have a new favorite Christmas movie of the new season! Oh my gosh! "A Christmas Prayer Tradition" was truly special. It was such an immensely beautiful and heartfelt film. Just exquisite and so touching. I have fallen in love with all of the actors who brought so much warmth and sincerity to their respective roles. I am beyond excited that this franchise is continuing because I want to see them again. What a refreshing thing to experience the joy of Jesus in all his glory and kudos to those involved in the story who were never afraid of saying his name out loud with reference and respect. Definitely more than a one-time watch!

Paula and Joan, I am totally on board with you regarding this movie! I had my doubts about this one (especially since it has been done so well before in the two movies you mention Paula), but I still found myself swept away in the storyline. I thought that this movie had just the right amount of humor in it, and the acting by Lori and Tom was great - nothing phony about the chemistry I was feeling between the two of them. A very entertaining movie that I definitely recommend!
