Please be sure to share in the comments below which Christmas movie (or movies) you are looking forward to seeing during UPtv's Christmas movie event.
I think Mistletoe Connection looks fun... I love seeing Jessica Sipos from Chesapeake Shores and Markian Tarasiuk from Christmas Jars. Plus, Dial S for Santa looks intriguing, since it has a mystery to the story and stars Julian Haig from Love in Bloom.
Also, be sure to note that Country Hearts Christmas is the sequel to the movie, Country Hearts, which will air (as stated above) on UPtv in October!
This is an interesting lineup and doesn't look that promising at all. A lot of new names for UP
ReplyDeleteLooks pretty good! -Maria
ReplyDeleteWow, I wasn’t expecting an announcement like this today. Excellent images for the new Christmas movies.
ReplyDeleteAt first I was kinda surprised that Up only has 8 Christmas movies this year but considering that they haven’t done any for awhile it makes sense. Even though some are cheesy, sometimes, I’ve always enjoyed Up’s movies. I’m hoping this doesn’t mean what I think it does for next year.
ReplyDeleteAwesome!!! ❤️ππ π
ReplyDeleteCome on Christmas!!!π❄️⛄️
For those thinking, only 8 Christmas movies? This is clearly the result of our bad economy and Streaming taking over. UP’s done well with shows like Heartland, and I’m sure it’s tough to compete with the movie giant. You know the channel I mean.
ReplyDeleteFor years I’ve heard people request that the networks do less and this year they finally got their wish. With one channel, at least. Rob
Hey Net! I’m loving this news! Kudos to UPtv for releasing their lineup first.
ReplyDeleteMy picks are Mistletoe Connection and Christmas at the Amish Bakery.
I’m curious about Christmas at an Amish Bakery. The story seems off to me as outsiders are not usually welcomed into the Amish community, whether they are family or not.
DeleteI usually don't watch any of the Christmas movies on UPtv because of the so-so plots and actors that I am mostly unfamiliar with. It looks to be the same for me this year.
ReplyDeleteThis news brightened up my day! Should I be picking pumpkins or my Christmas tree now? haha!
ReplyDeleteThis is getting me so excited for the holidays! Mistletoe Connection, Christmas at the Amish Bakery & Dial S for Santa are the ones im looking forward to the most π
ReplyDelete~Paula
There was something weird going on at UP yesterday.
ReplyDeleteThe site was saying that they were showing 17 new Christmas premieres for 2023 same as 2022.
First I thought I must be in last year's promo but no it was showing We're Scrooged for Nov 05 and Christmas Time Capsule for Nov 12.
That's now changed this morning - look's like somebody made a bloomer.
Christmas Time Capsule looks the pick of the bunch but Country Hearts Christmas, Yuletide The Knot and Dial S for Santa all look good too.
I'm wary about the the look of Christmas At The Amish Bakery - I hope the young girl is a neice or something - if one of the leads has been previously married I won't be watching it - Florence.
I think less is better, maybe Hallmark will get the message.
ReplyDeleteWhat I am more excited for, the supposed exclusive movies for Uptv, I am always hoping for some of the older HM movies, the Larry Levinson movies, so I am hoping it is some of those. Up has played, in the past, Our First Christmas, Farewell Mr Kringle, so I am hoping we see more of those. Nobody plays Thanksgiving House, Meet The Santas, Matchmaker Santa, A Grandpa for Christmas, All I want for Christmas, The Santa Suit. So I am hoping that some of these exclusive moives will be the older, good movies that Hallmark doesnt play anymore.
Country Hearts, Mistletoe Connection sound the best. I am happy some of these movies seem to have a santa connection. Love those movies.
Sabrina
Sabrina, I love those older Christmas movies, too! "Thanksgiving House" and "Matchmaker Santa" aired on the Pixl Channel last year. They call "Thanksgiving House" by another title, though - "Legally Tender."
DeleteLast year was my first time having the channel through Frndly, and I noticed they sometimes play a few of the older classics. I think "Santa Switch" was on there, too.
Would love to see someone play "A Grandpa for Christmas" and "All I Want for Christmas" again! Those are two of my old Hallmark favorites! :)
Blessings! Net
Sabrina, I also love Santa connection movies! Not Hallmark related but The Santa Clause with Tim Allen is one of my fave Christmas movies that Freeform, previously ABC Family Channel plays every year. I will check out some of the ones you mentioned.
Delete~Paula
Hey Paula, I haven't saw The Santa Clause movies in a while. I will have to check them out. I love the santa type hallmark movies, cause, well I know they are silly and not real, but who thinks a hallmark movie is real where someone meets and sometimes 3 days later, they say they love the person and move from their life to where the other lives? At least the santa movies I feel good watching remembering being a kid.
DeleteI love Farewell Mr Kringle, its such a good movie and a but sad, but really good. Meet the Santas is very silly and I love it. It follows Single Santa Seeking a Mrs Claus, I think thats the title. I like Crystal Bernard from her Wings days. The little boy in those movie is so sweet. He gets a family and it is a wonderful, special santa family. I recommend those.
Sabrina
Hi Sabrina,
DeleteYes you’ll have to rewatch The Santa Clause this holiday season. Tim Allen just cracks me up, and right now especially my 2 year old is so into Toy Story and there I am laughing away at the banter between Tim Allen and Tom Hanks. Thank you, I will check out your recommendations! And that is so funny that you say that about Hallmark movies, my husband would always say “these are so predictable she’s going back home & her high school sweetheart is there, they’ll end up together at the end” and I would be like who cares don’t burst my happy bubble I would rather watch this than the news these days, and now he’s hooked on the Hallmark Mystery Channel Lol
His fave is the Martha’s Vineyard ones with Jesse Metcalf, which they haven’t made any in a long time so I’m wondering if that one is canceled too….
~Paula
My favorite is the second Santa Clause. The noodles and pie and the limesickle sweater date scenes cracks me up.
DeleteSabrina, Paula, & Abigail,
DeleteI love Santa and North Pole type movies, too, and ALL of the original "Santa Clause" movies, as well!
The first "Santa Clause" holds a special place in my heart because I remember watching it for the first time when it came out with my family. Plus, I love Charlie's excitement over the North Pole and his creative imagination! He truly brings to life the wonder and joy of Christmas through the eyes of a child.
The second one with that adorable Lucy is also sooo sweet. And I love the office Christmas party scene with all of the retro toys and gifts! That is so fun!
I know some aren't especially crazy about the 3rd one, but I still enjoy it, too (minus the toy soldiers). I like how it has a little bit of an "It's a Wonderful Life" feel to it - when Scott Calvin can see what the world would be like if he never became Santa, just like George Bailey can see what Bedford Falls would be like if he'd never been born.
Last year Freeform aired the entire trilogy in a row - so I recorded all three and still have them on my DVR for whenever I need a little Christmas feel-good comedy.
Sabrina - I also adore the little boy in "Single Santa Seeks Mrs. Claus" and "Meet the Santas," Dominic Scott Kay. He is such a cutie; a great little actor. He was also fantastic in the Hallmark Hall of Fame movie, "Front of the Class"! I checked his IMDB and he is still acting. Wouldn't it be fun if they did a third sequel to those Christmas movies and he could finally take over as Santa? That would be such a special story to see - all these years later! :)
Blessings, Net
My wife and I really miss Larry Levinson’s movies. They all have pretty good to excellent story lines. I know he had a falling out with Hallmark and not sure he is still producing movies but we’ve always loved how he produced classy movies.
DeletePretty good news UP has cut back on the number of Christmas movies this year.
ReplyDeleteOverall there were just far too many last year - we didn't get them finished til after Christmas In July this year.
Hallmark might feel it a comedown if they were to reduce their number but I have a feeling Lifetime might - Florence
Interesting - apparently We're Scrooged and Love At The Amish Bakery were originally scheduled to be on Lifetime this year.
ReplyDeleteI wonder does this tell us anything? - Florence
Florence, That is very interesting.
DeleteI also noticed a couple weeks ago - one of the actors in "Dial S for Santa" said their movie was a Hallmark Christmas movie. So... I thought surely this person knew and it was a done deal and all, but surprise, UP has the rights to it this year.
It seems, whether it's a member of the cast or crew, most people believe their Christmas movie will end up on Hallmark.
~Net
They have too many Christmas movies lineup on their channel as they keep propose to save them for next year or beyond but if they doesn’t air Christmas movies this year so, UPTV will gonna pick Christmas movies up
DeleteIf these movies were initially made for Lifetime or Hallmark, it makes one wonder what kind of bargaining is going on behind the scenes.
DeleteThe writer's strike is having a huge impact on all new programming and movies this year. I am grateful to see that at least we will have some new Christmas movies to see and hoping all networks will show more of their wonderful, older movies that are rarely shown. As always, thanks Net for keeping us in the loop!
ReplyDeleteKathy, Thank you so much for your kind words!
DeleteThat is such a wonderful point - if the network's don't air as many new ones, then we will surely have the opportunity to see more of the old ones. I love that thought! :)
Blessings! Net
Looks like a few good ones.
ReplyDeleteThe Amish one looks awful. Amish don't have Christmas trees or Christmas decor. If she left the community, she would not be wearing a kapp, floral apron is not appropriate, jewelry not allowed, uncovered long hair is a health hazard, so may things wrong with that movie. Such an insult. (My cousin works for an Amish bakery.)
dstoutholcomb, Thank you for sharing this information on the Amish community. I was wondering how much of this would be an accurate representation of their lifestyle.
DeleteI just find it really insulting that they (all movie makers) don't understand that the Amish are a religious community of faith, a form of Christianity, and they make a mockery of them like a cheap tourist trap instead of the reverence. People have an attachment to their lifestyle, but they don't respect it they way they would other religious beliefs and cultures.
DeleteWhen they show an Amish character married or a wedding they show wedding rings. Amish don't wear them. Mennonites do. They seem to skirt the boundaries of the different Anabaptist sects for their bottom line. So many things. It's wrong.
I understand artistic license, but they are real people.
dstoutholcomb - Well said! I looked to see if a promo has been released, yet, but it's not out yet. I truly appreciate your insight on this. ~Net
DeleteIt’s sad to see UP cutting back at Christmas too. I wonder what this means for next year.
ReplyDeleteJim, I'll bet it has something to do with the writers and actors strikes. Hallmark and Hallmark M&M numbers for Christmas movies this year are also down.
ReplyDeleteWe’re Scrooged. Meh. Made it halfway and deleted. It’s probably an okay movie but I just couldn’t get into it. The part I watched was family friendly. ~~Jane
ReplyDeleteChristmas Time Capsule. Um? It had its sweet moments and some humor, but also some things that were odd and other stuff that made absolutely no sense (like what she found in the time capsule – it made no sense that her younger self would have put it in there 10 years ago without looking at it first). The movie wasn’t all that Christmassy, and really could have been set at any time of year with different decorations (the Alien Christmas Bazaar was weird but I suppose I’ll give them points for uniqueness because, you know, nothing says warm Christmas cheer better than little green space people!?π½ππ€£). The lead actress was fairly good. The lead actor is quite pretty to look at but he sometimes comes off rather flat, I liked him better in last year’s “Well Suited for Christmas” (which is not entirely family friendly). For a low-budget, second-string movie, this one really wasn’t all that bad. If you’re a diehard Christmas movie fan, it would be cute for a one-time watch. Family friendly except maybe(?) this: the two leads have to share a hotel room (strictly as platonic, long-time bffs), he somehow finds a massive rope and hangs a sheet between the beds to give them some privacy (a little trick he learned in the army – eyeroll!), they’re both wearing appropriate sleepwear/pjs, but then there is a scene in the morning where she wakes up to see him doing push-ups on the floor and, of course, the privacy sheet has been taken down and he somehow managed to lose his t-shirt during the night so we get to see his beautiful, muscled and naked torso (eyeroll, again!), then when he’s finished with his push-ups he puts his t-shirt back on (…and another eyeroll from me! -- but the boy really is pretty to look at so, I guess flaunt it while you’ve still got it!? π) p.s. - I laughed at one point in the movie because the production company upcycled the exact same ugly Christmas sweaters used in their other movies (one was so distinct, it was unmistakable). I’m used to them reusing the exact same charming, snow-covered Canadian town in all these movies but this is the first time I’ve noticed a repurposed ugly sweater. p.p.s. – And, ugh. If the directors want us to read the text messages on the screen, please make them big enough and hold the shot for more than two seconds! ~~Jane
ReplyDeleteI started watching Christmas Time Capsule, they started talking about astrology ( not to be confused with Astronomy) and they to some alien thing. Ugh
ReplyDeleteUPtv’s “Country Hearts Christmas” is family-friendly, although it deals with serious issues such as alcohol abuse and a love triangle. The film has a strong Christian theme, and another highlight is the singing of two sisters looking for their big break in country music, played by Lanie McAuley and Katerina Maria. The story felt too much like a soap opera however, one that finally provides closure when the family comes together for a Christmas Eve service. As sequels go, this one is just average.
ReplyDeleteMistletoe Connection. Delightful movie with good acting all around and nice chemistry between the leads. And there’s more than one sweet romance; plus, some nice warm Christmas cozy feeling. On the other hand, this was one of those movies that tries to play on our emotions by pitting the poor, poor, pitiful and clueless, small-shop owner against the big bad mean and greedy business developer. I absolutely abhor those types of movies and the way Hollywood paints as bad any business that has more than ten employees and actually tries to make a profit for their business. (I imagine people will think - because I whine so much about this topic! – that I must work for some huge corporate conglomerate, but I don’t, I actually come from an entrepreneurial/small business background but I just don’t like Hallmark’s agendas.) However, I thought this movie did a better job with making it slightly more believable and less ridiculous than others. Of course, there is still a last-minute Christmas miracle that saves the shop – eye-roll! Just once, I’d like them to show all the shop owners gladly taking the big bucks and giving nice bonuses to their employees and opening up in their new location right down the street and living happily ever after in lovely harmony with the new sparkly development that is bringing revival and new economic booms to their dying small town. Oh well, at least the sappy miracle in this one was maybe slightly different from all the rest and the big bad business owner had a heart. The movie is quite sweet and I truly enjoyed it; it’s not a keeper but I would definitely watch next year and recommend to others. Family friendly. ~~Jane
ReplyDeleteJane, I just want to say, once again, how much I love your movie reviews...so detailed, and I'm usually nodding my head in agreement with your comments, like the one here about how so many movies are "anti-big business". (I come from the corporate world, so yes, it would be nice to see an ending just as you described.) I haven't watched this movie yet, but I will definitely give it a go.
DeleteMark 25, thank you for saying that. And, likewise, I love reading your reviews, too, and getting a reasoned, mature point of view that I often agree with. I love having all the different perspectives and seeing these movies through other's eyes and emotions. Speaking of emotion, take everything I write this season with a grain of salt. I seem to be getting grumpier as I age (and have lost my filter, as well!). π€£π ~~Jane
DeleteReviews (it's taken me a while, but hey, I got around to them!):
ReplyDeleteChristmas Time Capsule was amazing! Highly recommend.
Country Hearts Christmas was so beautiful! I hope there's a 3rd movie.
-Maria
ReplyDeleteJane, my wife and I agree with your comments and observations. It seems this year there are a few that are just a bit strange. We watched Yuletide the Knot. We felt the beginning was very confusing and the family dynamic a bit strange. The influencer lady talked way too fast. They could have made her a bit more understandable. And the fiancΓ© of the influencer was really a strange character. Doesn’t say a word throughout the movie and facial expressions like he should have been in bed asleep. That character’s story line could have been much better written.
Yes! "Strange" is the perfect description for some of these movies. I tried to watch Yuletide the Knot and just couldn't make it all the way through. Life's too short (and too busy!) to continue watching a movie I wasn't completely enjoying. Here's hoping the next movie you and your wife watch will be thoroughly enjoyable and full of Christmas coziness!! ~~Jane
DeleteMistletoe Connection is definitely 1 of my favorites for this year! -Maria
ReplyDeleteYuletide the Knot. I couldn’t make it very far with this movie. Too silly and sappy and unbelievable. The acting wasn’t all that inspired and I didn't really love the main character, Rachel. Maybe it all improved as it went along?? Don’t know. I just wasn’t in the mood to find out. UPtv and I are hit or miss (usually miss) -- I don’t think I’m their target audience. The little bit I saw was family friendly. ~~Jane
ReplyDeleteChristmas at the Amish Bakery. I couldn’t make it all the way through. It was probably cute enough but I just wasn’t feeling it. Mediocre acting, especially the lead actor. Plus, having grown up with a small bit of personal experience with the Amish, I have a hard time watching inaccuracies in movies, not to mention the way Hollywood either idolizes them or pokes fun at them. I can’t say for sure if this movie was family friendly, but my guess is that it was. ~~Jane
ReplyDeleteDial S for Santa is a good movie. -Maria

UPTV's Most Uplifting Christmas 2023 Review Part 2:
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts:
Not much to say here. Other then this was a cozy lineup, and it was all clean, which I applaud. Hopefully next year's lineup can be a bit bigger. -Maria
