Hallmark released their 2022 Christmas movie lineup today via Variety for the Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. All of the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Christmas movies will begin at 10pm EST.

I am most intrigued that “The Gift of Peace,” starring Nikki Deloach and Brennan Elliott, will be a DaySpring Production.
*I also want to include a caution here. At this point, we don't know which movies will be family-friendly. I'm hoping there will still be many, but at this time, we just don't know. Simply dreadful line-up compared to the main channel.
ReplyDeleteNearly every one has one of the leads as a single parent or has been married before.
There was a strong rumour doing the rounds earlier this year that Lucas Bryant had retired from acting which has fortunately proved to be untrue but why is he always paired with a single parent or previously married partner?
I believe you have to go right back to Tulips In Spring to where he wasn't.
I've been saying I was trying to cut down on the number of Christmas movies I watched and this certainly helps me.
I'll only be watching 2 of these which incidentally feature Hallmark's leading men. Just hope they're mainly family-friendly.
A Maple Valley Christmas with Andrew Walker - this sounds like a good old-fashioned Hallmark offering.
i've loved all the Time To Come Home series to date and on paper this sounds like a real cracker with the fantastic Tyler Hynes.

I don't tend to notice the whole single parent thing much. The real problem is there is way too much forced diversity in too short of a time.
Delete1 of the many reasons as to why Hallmark became popular in the first place for many years is because people could feel relaxed by their content. If 1 format works just fine, sticking with it year after year is smart business! Trying to change it too much manipulates your audience in a bad way.
I'm friends with a few Jews, but that doesn't mean I want to watch another new movie centured around their holiday. (I didn't even watch last year's movie because it looked boring.), or feel like I have to. Also, how many Chinese Americans really asked for 2 movies centured around them? I doubt very many, or at all. And despite what the media wants to tell you, Kwanza is not as innocent looking as it appears.
The main problems Hallmark has with these movies (other then them feeling forced) is 1, they're too 1 sided. 2, They're off putting. 3, They're often not that interesting or memorable. And also because what their main audience really wants is just a cozy Christmas movie to watch to avoid the stress of politics and daily lives, not seeing whatever Hallmark thinks it's doing.
I have a pretty good feeling these kind of movies are going to stick out like really sore thumbs when the ratings come in, just like every other one from this year, because Hallmark has to learn the hard way. -Maria

I completely agree, It has become really tiresome and forced and completely unrealistic. Hallmark has become very annoying with so many of their films virtue posturing a checklist roster of woke nonsense. Every film has a quota of each racial and ethnic group. Hallmark needs to stop pushing this all the time.
DeleteOkay, there are 2 movies here that look okay to me: The Gift of Peace and the 5th Time for Me movie (because I've already seen the previous 4), everything else is 'No idea' with me. Pretty sad to see how barely used this cozy network is now compared to years past when they had plenty of great premieres. -Maria

If you're looking for a cheesy movie with all the typical cringeworthy Hallmark stuff like brushing flour off the face while making cookies, the heroine skipping through town chirping fake greetings to every single person on the street, the heroine falling off a ladder into the hunky hero's arms while putting the star on top of the tree, silly snowball fight that ends in rolling in the snow locked in embrace, community tree lighting that's usually a bit anticlimactic, big passionate kiss at the end after they've only known each other one week, etc., etc.,..... this is NOT that movie. I think sweet, sappy/cheesy movies are awesome but it's nice every once in a while to have some that are a little bit different (maybe a bit more mature?). This one has it's share of Hallmark-non-realistic moments (of course!), but it's more a sweet, feel-good, movie about healing and new relationships than it is about romance (there is a budding romance, but it's just a bit more realistic than most Hallmark movies). I thought all of the actors were quite good. This one brought tears to my eyes and it's a keeper for my dvr (at least for now!).

Delete“We Need a Little Christmas” had a wonderful story line of helping others. We often don't know what other people are going through. When we take time to have a conversation we sometimes find that our experience isn't all that unique and if it is, there are people to walk alongside you on the journey. This is another one which I'd watch again or play in the background while doing Christmas preparations.
ReplyDeleteI just watched Christmas Bedtime Stories, and it is family friendly. I honestly wasn't sure where the movie was going, and I don't want to ruin it for anyone else with spoilers. You can usually guess what will happen in a Hallmark movie, but not this time, and it was a very emotional ride. Perhaps it's unrealistic (I'd be interested in how a real military wife would feel about it), but the ending warmed my heart and brought tears to my eyes. The ending was a little rushed maybe, but aren't they always? Anyways, I know this is a vague review, but I really did enjoy this one! You just have to watch it for yourself.

Christmas Bedtime Stories was quite irritating; we are led to believe that the protagonist is learning to deal with loss and bingo in the last few minutes the "dead" husband shows up.
So far, Kismet Christmas is the best of the HALLMARK movies. GAC Family seems preferable to me since they aren't pushing the agenda stuff that Hallmark does. Destined At Christmas was heartwarming. I am looking forward to the other GAC movies.
A Maple Valley Christmas is mostly family friendly ie there are no same sex relationships or people living together outside of marriage. However, I thought that divorce was treated a little too lightly. Erica said she didn't blame her dad for leaving because farm life isn't for everyone. As if a father leaving doesn't have a massive effect on children! Her own divorce was mentioned casually too. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like Hallmark has tried to portray divorce too flippantly lately while they used to at least show it as a devastating, painful tragedy.
ReplyDeleteThe Gift of Peace may be my favorite Christmas movie of the season. Yes, it was sad in parts, but it was also full of hope. The cast and the acting was fantastic, portraying grief so honestly. The theme of faith and prayer was also well done ( that God is always listening , he just doesn't always answer the way we expect). In some Hallmark movies, widows and widowers seem to kind of rush into a new relationship, but this movie handled that so much better. I also loved the music used. Although - did anyone else notice that the singer's lips didn't match the words in the flashback of Regina singing with her mom? But, if that little nit picky complaint is all I've got, then that means this one is a keeper. Maybe I should only watch the Day spring movies!
