Hope you all enjoy the new movies on this first weekend in February. I'm quite curious to get a sneak peek of the next two "Wedding Veil" movies. Plus, I'm intrigued by this new Hallmark mystery on Sunday night and the new UPtv rom-com looks great, too. I just hope they all end up being as good as they look!
“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.”
I give up, yet another Hallmark movie (Cut, Color, Murder) where one of the leads has been married before.
ReplyDeleteListen Out For Love sounds as if it should be good - what would we do without UPtv? - Florence
Um. She’s widowed. Don’t see a problem with moving on there.
DeleteWhat movies that you are looking forward seeing this weekend?
ReplyDeleteChris, I think all of the new ones look great... I'm definitely recording them all! :)
DeleteAre you looking forward to any of them?
Looks like some great movies for this weekend.
ReplyDeleteYes, they look quite promising! :)
DeleteKristoffer Polaha on Hallmark’s New Approach to Mysteries & Future of ‘Mystery 101’
ReplyDeleteThe last “Mystery 101” movie that aired on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries left fans with a major cliffhanger. With so many mystery series being canceled, fans can’t help but wonder if this series will ever return. Kristoffer Polaha shared his insight into the show’s future, along with the changes happening with Hallmark mystery movies in general.
He Said Hallmark Is Changing Its Approach to Mystery Movies
When Kristoffer Polaha appeared on The Hallmarkies Podcast in December, he shared some hints about what might be in store in the future of “Mystery 101.”
Polaha started out, around eight minutes into the video above, talking about the changes happening with Hallmark mystery movies. He said there’s a focus on making the movies more interesting and having less redundant storylines.
“I’m speaking so out of school right now, because I do not work for Hallmark other than I am a brand ambassador as an actor for them. … I hope to be in business with them for many years to come,” he started out, emphasizing that he is not speaking for the network in any official capacity.
“I don’t know the ins and outs of what they’re doing day to day,” he continued. “I know that they are rejiggering their approach to mysteries. … As a viewer I think you can see a lot of redundancies between the different mysteries. It’s like a girl with a quirky job meets up with a cop and then they solve crimes together. … I think the idea is, ‘Why don’t we do mysteries and just make them a little more interesting or a little more diverse… Let’s just kind of mix up the formula.'”

He Believes ‘Mystery 101’ Will Continue
The hosts of the podcast asked Polaha about his thoughts about the cliffhanger, since the “Internet exploded” when the ending aired, they shared.
“I can tell you that we will make more,” Polaha said, adding that he wasn’t speaking in any official capacity.
He continued, saying:
But I do know that ‘Mystery 101’ has performed really, really, really well for the network. They get big numbers rating-wise, and they sell overseas internationally. And I think for a few conversations I’ve had with people at the network that there’s still very much a heartbeat in the show, and still very much love to continue telling the story of Travis and Amy and Graham. And so there will be more. I think that the fans can take a deep breath and know that there is more to come.
He said the cliffhanger ending surprised him when he first read the script.
“I read it and I said, ‘Holy cow, wait a minute, what?'” he recalled.
He added that John Christian Plummer has already written the eighth movie, and Polaha knows what’s going to happen.
“I know what happens, I could spoil it for everybody,” he joked. “…We have number eight. Number eight’s locked and loaded, it’s written, it’s ready. And when you hear what he [Plummer] has done with it, you guys will be…the payoff is worth all of the driving.”
Then he reminisced a bit on how excited he was that Hallmark allowed them to end the last movie with such an unexpected twist.
“How cool is it that we got away with that on a Hallmark Mystery movie?” he said. “…We took something that everyone was expecting to go one way, and did something completely different with it. And yes, people are upset, people have threatened never to watch again… There is anticipation for what’s to come… I think it was a brilliant move on John’s part…”

Thank you for sharing. This was such a great podcast interview with Kristoffer Polaha; I love the way heavy.com recapped it.
DeleteMany of us sleuthers have been disappointed with other recent mystery cancelations. It's nice knowing "Mystery 101" will continue, at least for now.
Thank you for sharing Anonymous. Haha, you beat me to it.
DeleteIt's great knowing the 8th film is already written and intended to continue. Really looking forward to it!๐
Color, Cut, Murder looks good. Love Julie Gonzalo. I have Hallmark now, so now I could see it when it airs. Wish it wasn't on Lord's day though. I might watch the next time available.
DeleteWhich other mystery series have been canceled? I seem to be way out of the loop!
ReplyDeleteBeth, So far, we've learned that MatchMaker Mysteries, Picture Perfect Mysteries, and Hailey Dean Mysteries have been cancelled. The actors in these movies shared this information; Hallmark never put out an official statement.
DeleteAurora Teagarden and Mystery 101 are continuing, but I'm not 100% certain about others, like: Martha's Vineyard Mystery, Morning Show Mysteries, Hannah Swensen Mystery, Signed, Sealed, Delivered, Chronicle Mysteries, Gourmet Detective, Ruby Herring, and Crossword Mysteries.
I'm thinking some of the others are cancelled, too, but as far as I know, we haven't received any word, yet.
A lot of us mystery fans are quite disappointed to see these mysteries go.
If Hallmark Movies and Mysteries cancels Crossword Mysteries I would just watch the first 3 movies on DVD.
DeleteColor, Cut, Murder:
ReplyDelete100% clean. No issues with same sex. The man who worked in the salon doing makeup on the Beauty Pageant girls kinda made me uncomfortable, but he didn't act feminine at all.
It was a good mystery, kept me guessing. Kinda cheesy. I liked her relationship with the police chief. I'm guessing by the ending there will be a sequel.
Also, I had forgotten how much commercials were on TV. I'll save it for special occasions, like the Wedding Veil movies.
Abigail, Thank you for sharing this detailed review! Great to hear how much you enjoyed Color, Cut, Murder!

Net, this is off topic but can you tell me anything about A Christmas Bride from 2017? I should have asked this before I ordered the DVD. I paid 39.00 for it, went back the next day to order one for a friend and the price had jumped to 139.00. Today it is down to 99.00 on Amazon. I know Daniel Lissing is popular but those prices are outrageous! Happy I ordered when I did. Did you write a review for this movie?
ReplyDeletekitkat, I'm always happy to help, if I can. Are you referring to the movie "A December Bride" from 2016? I can tell you it is family-friendly, as I've seen it many times since it's premiere. Overall, it's a delightful watch, and Daniel Lissing and Jessica Lowndes are fun together. If I was going to give it a rating, like Florence does, I would say it's around a 7 or 8 out of 10. Hope that helps!
DeleteI do agree that $139.00 is an outrageous price for a DVD! Hallmark did air "A December Bride" this past Christmas season, so chances are they will re-air it again during Christmas in July or next Christmas.
I checked Ebay and their prices are really high for the DVD there, too. All the ones I saw were lower than $139, though. See here: https://ebay.us/bMBZ42 I had no idea this movie was such a hot commodity.
Thanks Net for this info. That is the movie I am referring to, so it is a 2016 instead of 2017. The DVD arrived and created some more questions. It has written on the cover "Public Library Of Cincinnati". There is another sticker that reads the same thing with "Withdraw" stamped in blue. Can you tell me if this is a normal thing for a library to do on Amazon? I have never seen this on any DVD's I have purchased before from Amazon. It is sold as new.
Deletekitkat, Oh my goodness, that is peculiar. Is the DVD wrapped in plastic, like a new DVD typically is? Maybe this was a copy that was never used, if so.
DeleteI just looked up some info and I found this:
"When you see "Withdrawn" in the Status column of a library record, it means that the book has been taken off the shelf and is no longer available for checkout from our library."
So... maybe this also applies for DVD's? If it is marked withdrawn, then that means it can be sold. However, I also read somewhere else that "The library cannot sell items purchased with state funds. Withdrawn items cannot go to the booksale (or online sales in this instance) for this reason and must be tossed out."
Perhaps, tossing them out could mean just giving the books, DVDs, etc... away for free. And then maybe someone, not associated with the library (of course!), knew it's value and decided to sell it through Amazon. There's a lot of maybe's there.
This would be a great mystery for our beloved librarian, Aurora Teagarden!
Net, I love that last sentence. Made me laugh! Are you listening Aurora?
DeleteThe DVD is wrapped in plastic like all DVD's. I had the city wrong. Checked at lunchtime and it is Cleveland, not Cincinnati. Sorry! Otherwise, looks same as all new DVD's. Thanks for your response Net.
kitkat and Net - I'm no Aurora, but I can tell you that libraries frequently remove slow-moving items from their shelves, stamp or label them "Withdrawn", give them to a "Friends of the Library" or some other library-related non-profit organization, who in turn sells them in the library for a $1 or so per item. (I've gotten a lot of my books, cd's and dvd's this way.)
DeleteBut kitkat, yours is truly a mystery - Amazon selling a new item in a used library case. Is it possible that you bought it from a third-party seller on Amazon, who sent you a used item instead of a new one? In any event, check the label on the disc - libraries usually put a label on the disc as well as on the case. If there is no label, and the disc looks scratch-free, you probably...somehow...ended up with a new dvd in an old case.
There should not be a problem in you returning it to Amazon if you decide to do that, if you explain to them what happened.
Mark 25, thank you for this info. Somehow, and I will never know for sure, the DVD appears brand new. I do know you can shrink-wrap things to look as if they have never been opened. There is nothing on the DVD itself other than the Hallmark info like all the other DVDs I have. I played the DVD and it is perfect. This was definitely from the Cleveland Library because it has that info factory printed onto the jacket of the DVD.
DeleteNo worries! As long as I know it wasn't stolen, I'm okay with it. I will not return. There are no more available. I do love these old movies!
Mark 25 - Thank you for sharing this information. It is a very curious how it ended up being brand new from the library. Perhaps, it never made it's way to the public for checking out.
DeleteI can just imagine it - sitting in an unopened box shoved in the corner of a storage closet somewhere and one day, recently, they discover it, along with other older DVDs unopened. Just a thought!
kitkat, If I were you, I would definitely hold onto it; it's great you were able to purchase it for a much lesser price than those selling now. Glad my Aurora comment made you laugh! :)
With almost all the mystery shows being canceled, I hope Hallmark puts them out on dvd. I especially would like Picture Perfect Mysteries and Martha's Vineyard Mysteries. I can't believe they would cancel SSD. Even though they are married now they can still do mysteries. Also, I am still hoping for some Christmas movies like Return to Christmas Creek, The Twelve Gifts of Christmas, and Christmas Bow to come out on dvd. Some of the newer ones I liked are: Christmas Promise, Five More Minutes, Eight Gifts of Hanukkah, My Christmas Family Tree, Angel Falls Christmas, Making Spirits Bright and Christmas Ceo. Also, hoping for GAC to put theirs on dvd as we don't get that channel. There are many older ones I'd like to come out on dvd, but I'm afraid that as time goes by it gets less likely. Would still like Window Wonderland, Farewell, Mr. Kringle, Thanksgiving House, Christmas Land, and Love in Paradise on dvd(watch every time it is on).
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree! We need even more of these Hallmark movies released on DVD! I have a feeling we will see many of the new Christmas movies from 2021 released this year, before and during the Christmas season. I'm also hoping we will see some releases from GAC Family, too! :)
DeleteNo word, yet, on the future of "Signed, Sealed, Delivered." Like you, I would LOVE more, but the last one felt rather final.
Didn't really care for Cut Color Murder. Too catty, and Allie seemed a bit too much of a smart aleck IMO. On the plus side, The trailers for Haunted by Murder and The Presence of Love look good. -Maria
ReplyDeleteMaria, I appreciate you sharing your thoughts on Cut, Color, Murder. It's always interesting to hear various perspectives.
DeleteI'm really looking forward to seeing the new Aurora movie, too!
