Has ❄️ Winter Storm Landon ❄️ visited your house?

For my family and I, here in the heartland of the Midwest, we are on day two of *Winter Storm Landon* that is sweeping across multiple states... causing travel restrictions, air flight delays, power outages, and basically, hazardous weather conditions. Is your home in the path of the storm, too? I just heard on the weather channel that over 100 million Americans have some sort of weather alert today.

Depending on the source, we are hearing by the end of today we could have around 15+ inches of snow. Our snowfall has been steady and the wind has been fierce, blowing it all around in blizzard type conditions. Are you seeing the same view out your window? Our local weather man calmly told us over the weekend to not to be scared, but be prepared. I thought that was excellent advice. Thankfully, we had just been to the grocery store and we were ready. Yes, we WERE ready. But then, our refrigerator stopped working. Yikes! We tried to have it repaired, but that was going to cost more than a new one. We were in danger of losing all of the new food we had just purchased, so we quickly chose a new one on Tuesday. It had to be local and in stock. Thankfully, we were able to find the one we liked, not too far away, and it was on sale! All the food we had stocked up with was saved. We were so thankful to The Lord we were able to locate it and get it into our home (thanks to a fork-lift on our tractor) just a day before the storm came. What a blessing! Thankfully, we still have our electricity, too. I hope you all do, as well.

We once went through an ice storm, where our power lines came down all over our area, and we were without power for over a week. That was difficult and challenging, but my family and I made it through it just fine, and my heart always goes out to those who are affected by sleet, freezing rain, icy conditions, fallen trees and prolonged power outages.

I hope you all are doing well and keeping warm in your homes. Please be sure to share in comments below - what the weather has been like for you.

Since we are snowed in, this winter wonderland is really giving me the Christmas feels... putting me in the mood for some Christmas movies! If you still have electricity and can watch TV, we have three good ones to choose from on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, the Hallmark Channel, and GAC Family this week...

  1. Today is calm (but cold) for us here in Chicagoland, unlike Tuesday night and yesterday, when we got around a foot of snow. I can't complain, though, because I know other areas have it so much worse, and for us it mostly came down heavy but without the strong winds. It was nice staying indoors yesterday (well, except for the shoveling) and watching it snow in the field by the house - it looked like a Currier and Ives picture!

I pray that all of you are safe and warm! And Net, I am so sorry to hear about your unfortunate adventure...but enjoy your new refrigerator!

    1. Mark 25, I love the Currier & Ives reference! It does seem like we are in a beautiful snow painting, which is very clean and bright-white.

I'm grateful our area, like yours, is prepared for this and snow removal is easily done with large trucks, which are busily out on roads, including main and side country roads, like ours.

Be careful out there shoveling. If your wind is like ours, it will probably blow back some drifts in your driveway or sidewalks. That is the frustrating part, isn't it? That and the bitter cold. Stay warm, my friend! :)

  2. We are getting snow too, not as much as they said but enough. Roads are bad due to wind, called in to work and they said not to come. Staying in.

    1. Chris, Do you already have some good snow accumulation from previous storms? Be safe if you have to go out or travel a distance.

    3. Chris, Hope you made it through the freezing rain okay. That is the worst. I still remember the silence after our ice storm hit and then the cracking of tree branches due to the weight of the ice. Be safe out there.

    4. Have you ever tried shoveling sleet?

    5. Chris, No, I've never shoveled sleet. I imagine it's not easy to do though. Be careful.

  4. Greetings from New England! We are getting hit now (Friday am). Had a blizzard last weekend, a huge melt, and now ice. Should be clear after today. Stay safe, all!

    1. Joyce, We were very blessed to not lose our power during this storm. I know others were not as fortunate. Hopefully, things have improved for many across the country.

I was just noticing how blue our sky is here today and sunny. Hope you have clearer skies this weekend, too.

Blessings on your weekend... enjoy the new movies! :)

  7. Here in the south, yesterday was a balmy 70 degrees. We get snow once in a blue moon. Net, send some our way. There is something so pure about snow. Like a cleansing! Your soil will be more fertile after this. All of you who have ice, please be careful!

    1. kitkat, I so agree... I love the way the snow makes everything look so pure. It reminds me of all the scripture promises that He forgives our sins and "washes us white as snow"!

Plus, you are so right - our ground really needed this moisture, so it truly is a blessing from above.

Wish I could send some snow your way!!! Enjoy your weather down south. :)

    1. Denise, Glad to hear you were not affected by the snow storm. Our weather has vastly improved. We have a foot of snow on the ground, as it's too cold to melt, but the sun came out today brightly and after two days of emergency travel only, the roads are all clear and open. It's a lovely winter wonderland!!! :)

    2. Have you ever tried to shovel or clean out sleet? I think that cleaning sleet from driveways is a pain. What did you think?

      Delete
  11. Jim, Oh my goodness! We'll have to all come and shovel you out! Can you build a snowman or fort with it all? Ours hasn't been very packable, doesn't even make a decent snowball. ((I may have tried to throw one or two!)) The snow just falls all to pieces.

Hope you can stay inside and keep warm. Be safe, my friend, if you have to get out.
