It's the weekend before CHRISTMAS! Can YOU believe it? I know many of us are busy with holiday activities... wrapping, baking, and maybe, some last minute shopping, too! I'm wrapped up still in ALL three! How 'bout you? Just when I think all the shopping is done, I seem to remember one more thing. I just love giving. 'Tis the season!
I'm doing my best, though, to not get consumed with all the presents and superficial stuff, because the focus of Christmas should always be on Jesus! He's the best GIFT ever given, and I pray many receive Him in their hearts this Christmas.
Once again, there are lots of NEW rom-com style Christmas movies this weekend, but there are also some wonderful specials that share the true meaning of Christmas! I hope you enjoy the list below...

Sunday, December 19, 2021:
Okay, this is not a Christmas movie, but it has become a tradition for for me and my family to watch The Sound of Music at Christmastime. The story is beyond incredible and always moves me to tears. Our freedom is so precious; this movie is a great reminder of what took place as World War II approached and the von Trapp family, who lived in Salzburg, Germany, had to flee from the Nazis to America. I do believe The Sound of Music is one of the best movie musicals of all time.
In this true-life story, Julie Andrews lights up the screen as Maria, a spirited young Austrian woman who leaves the convent to become a governess for Captain von Trapp's (Christopher Plummer) seven unruly children. Her charm and songs soon win the hearts of the children - and their father. But when Nazi Germany unites with Austria, Maria is forced to attempt a daring escape with her new family.

While Jack and Holly go through challenges of making Christmas dreams for others come true, they discover kindred spirits in each other and the potential for the gift of romance this holiday season.
Sunday, December 19, 2021:
“Christmas Takes Flight” - tells the story of a handsome but frugal CEO who takes over a family-owned regional airline and plans to cut their annual Christmas charity event, while the original owner’s daughter, who is a pilot for the airline, rallies the community to save the event, and finds unexpected love in the process.

Looking for a fresh angle to her book on relationships, Merry heads to snow covered Vermont. She finds a new perspective and Christmas cheer with charismatic aid worker Chris.
Is there something special you are looking forward to this weekend?
The NEW Christmas movies that most pique my interest are: Joy For Christmas, Toying with the Holidays, and the new Christmas episodes of When Hope Calls!
I'm also going to be sure to watch the one and only airing of A Charlie Brown Christmas (my absolute favorite!), Christmas with the Chosen - The Messengers, The Homecoming: A Christmas Story which celebrate the 50th Anniversary of The Waltons movie, and of course, as I mentioned above, I simply must see... The Sound of Music!
*Please note- I have NOT pre-screened the NEW Christmas movies listed above. If you happen to watch one of the NEW Christmas movies this week and want to share whether or not it is a family friendly movie, please stop back by and leave a review. I know everyone here would be grateful to know any information you are willing to share.
Be sure to check out the 2021 Christmas Movie Review Page - if you'd like to see which movies are family-friendly this year.
You can also check out the Christmas TV Movie Schedule, which includes NEW Christmas movie premieres and Christmas classics.
Have a fun and festive weekend, everyone! I still can't believe - it's the last one before Christmas! So much to do... so little time! Gotta get busy! I found some last minute gifts last night with my Amazon Prime. Their Holiday Gift Guides are such a huge help for picking out something special when you don't have anything particular in mind.
Hope you are able to get done whatever you need to do this weekend before Christmas comes!
Blessings & Merry Christmas, Everyone! Net
So looking forward to When Hope Calls Christmas and the start of season 2! Hopefully the second season will start up in January.
ReplyDeleteCindy Busby on the go again with two movies this weekend.
ReplyDeleteJoy For Christmas looks as if it could be good and Christmas Takes Flight will either be really brilliant or really dull - Florence
Thanks for this Net! Looking forward to When Hope Calls. Can't wait to see Jack again and maybe see Abigail baking some yummy goodness. π
ReplyDeleteI am most looking forward to A Charlie Brown Christmas. LOL
ReplyDeleteI also was scrolling Instagram and it was confirmed that Picture Perfect Mysteries has been cancelled. Just another clue that HMM may change.
Misty
Me too Misty! Charlie Brown never disappoints!
DeleteMisty,
DeleteI am worried about the state of HMM, I am hoping we still get the mysteries and I am wondering if the Mahogany line of movies will take over the channel. They moved over many of the movies like Holiday in Harlem, Christmas in Harmony to HMM. There doesnt seem to be any movies filming that are mysteries other than the one Aurora.
That being said, the last Picture perfect mysteries did terrible in the ratings. They should go by the ratings in forcing more movies/mysteries on the audience. Like Morning Show Mysteries, they didnt do well, and Holly Robinson Peete's christmas movie did bad in ratings too. The movies with POC just dont do well on Hallmark, cause i firmly believe it is not the audience for Hallmark movies. So if they do the mahogany line on HMM and do away with the mysteries, i think the ratings drop to its lowest ever. I mean the HMM movies already get lower ratings cause not everyone has the channel or knows about it, but this will kill the ratings.
Sabrina
Sabrina, kitkat, Misty...
DeleteI too am quite concerned/disappointed with Hallmark. If they keep going down the woke road, then I won't be watching them as much any more. I do understand not keeping mysteries that have poor ratings, but at least finish up the series in some way. It is rather disappointing when they drop them and there was a storyline left unfinished. But that's typical.
Should be interesting to see how the ratings go in January. I'm so going to miss the Christmas movies when they switch back to non-holiday programming.
I'm concerned about Hallmark as well. This woke path is not the right path for the network. I've tried watching most of the network's new POC movies, but I can only think of like, 1 or 2 that I really enjoyed. The rest I watched just, bored me.
DeleteAnd as the ratings clearly say, there's not really many 'non whites' that really pay attention to the network, or really care about it, hence why those kind of movies always seem to get lower ratings.
Not to mention, some of the casting in some of these newer movies, just seems forced. Kind of why I'm not interested in most of the network's 'different' movies, they don't seem all that interesting, and they just seem a bit forced.
I have zero interest in the 'Mahogney' movies. And I doubt there's many out there that really want those movies as well.
Hate to say it, but I predict Hallmark is going to get a really harsh lesson in what happens when woke agendas are attempted to be forced one way or another.
That being said, I hope some mystery series are kept. -Maria
Trouble is they will probably tout how great they are compared to other channels. Problem is GAC currently just doesn’t have the market connections yet. Hopeing that will change and they will be more available as the content becomes better known. With other channels doing less movies and not as good quality, naturally Hallmark may seem to be doing better but I hope true interest ratings will be revealed and show how far they have fallen with what used to be a loyal base.
DeleteWhen Hope Calls Christmas part 1
ReplyDeleteBrookfield comes together as community to celebrate Christmas
When Hope Calls Christmas Part 2
Brookfield gets some unexpected but familiar visitors as they celebrate Christmas
Christy B. Allen was portrayed as young Jennifer Garner in 2 movies
ReplyDeleteThis has really her first movie for Hallmark
Ryan Rottman looks so ldifferent
I read on Instagram that the actors in GAC Family movies cannot film movies for Hallmark. Do you have any info about this? I'm particularly interested to know what this means for the mystery movies.
ReplyDeleteikneed1, I believe it depends on the contract they sign. Danica McKellar's contract was exclusive to GAC Family, but others, like Trevor Donovan and Jen Lilley, are still able to work with either network.
DeleteNet, I just read on Movie Guide that Trevor signed on with GAC. I'm sure you will get that article too. Such a sweet picture of Trevor! The article is very enlightening.
DeleteYes! I read that article, too! I knew Trevor had signed to do some movies with GAC, but I didn't know he planned to work exclusively with them. That is great news!
DeleteAlso, loved that handsome picture in his tuxedo, too.
I also recently read that Trevor said his work on the movie 'Reagan' (about former President Ronald Reagan) really impacted his life.
A lot of wonderful Christmas movies.
ReplyDeleteSugar Plum Twist is a family friendly. New York City professional ballerina Natalia doesn’t get the leading role of the Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker, she returns home to choreograph a local production of the Christmas classic. A ballet student VivΓana Serrano who has a flare for Latin dance, Natatlia makes a bold move to incorporate a “Latin twist” to the The Nutcracker. ReplyDeleteI know there is still time, but I was so hoping for Santa(A.K.A Hallmark) to bring Return to Christmas Creek and Christmas Bow on dvd for Christmas. Merry Christmas everyone and God bless. Let's pray for a better new year. RG
ReplyDeleteSugar Plum Twist is family family. A beloved Christmas ballet gets a Latinx twist in this an aspiring ballerina who is crushed when Viviana Serrano doesn’t get cast in her dream role as the Sugar Plum Fairy in an upcoming production of Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece “The Nutcracker”, but Meredith McClain gets the role. At Baila Dance Studio. Rose Ortiz introduces her Brother named Justin to Viviana, Justin the Music Producer like their parents. They call Vivana “Vivi”. Not sure I understand above. It states movie is family friendly but mentions that Mia used to date women. Would appreciate a clarification. Thanks
DeleteThe part of Mia said she used to date women at Noah’s house while she’s talking with Noah & Avery. Look like she isn’t dating women a anymore. DeleteI think that The Christmas House 2 was absolutely terrible.
ReplyDeleteNot to mention its NOT family friendly
DeleteHi Net!
ReplyDeleteI was wondering whether you have seen season 1 of ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ on Masterpiece PBS. If you have, is it any good? What did you think of it? Season 2 airs in January in the States. I was thinking about watching the series as it looks interesting based on the previews and I love period pieces, and I was wondering if it is good. :)
Blessings,
SΓ‘ri
Sari, I have heard of ‘All Creatures Great and Small,’ but I have never watched it. I used to watch more of Masterpiece in the past, but PBS is often unpredictable when it comes to wholesome programming.
DeleteI checked common sense media and 2 reviewers said it was family-friendly. You can read more details here:
https://www.commonsensemedia.org/tv-reviews/all-creatures-great-and-small/user-reviews/adult
Sari, I have watched "All Creatures Great and Small" and love it. It's family-friendly and heartwarming, though I probably wouldn't watch with very young children due to the nature of veterinary work (for instance, having to put down an animal) and some mild language and drinking scenes.
DeleteAll Creatures Great and Small is wonderful and charming with beautiful scenery and engaging characters! My mom and I loved it. It is family friendly, although Siegfried does sometimes says d*** or h***. There is nothing stronger than that. I think it is most enjoyable for people ages 12 and up. I can't wait for season 2 and another pastoral escape. The books are wonderful too!
DeleteThank you all for your feedback! :) I will watch it. There are so few good shows to watch nowadays. Now even adaptations of classical literature can be infiltrated with current ideological trends. It is a real treat to find quality tv and films.
DeleteToying With the Holidays is family friendly. The movie seemed to move very slow, but I enjoyed the story. Will watch again.
ReplyDeleteI finally watched Kirk Franklin’s A Gospel Christmas and really enjoyed it. It features a woman pastor, which is not something I’m used to, but everything about this movie was warm and family-friendly and I loved it. The movie lived up to the title’s promise and proclaimed The Gospel in several songs. From the opening song, What a Friend We Have in Jesus, to a song about putting Christ back in Christmas, and a great rendition of Go Tell It On The Mountain, the music was wonderful. Olivia comes to a small church as a new pastor just in time to face many challenges for the Christmas season. Along the way she encounters resistance from the leader of the church council and has to overcome her own fears about singing. There is a sweet romance with choir director Ashton, and It was nice to see how he both encouraged and respected her. I wish I’d watched it the night it came on, instead of recording it because for anyone who wants Christmas to be about Christ, this one is a keeper.
ReplyDeleteDeborah, Thank you for sharing your review with us!
DeleteBlessings & Merry CHRISTmas to you!!! :)
I had so much fun watching When Hope Calls tonight. The plot was really sweet. The part when the children ask Santa to give someone else a pony was adorable and it was great seeing all the familiar faces. I would have liked to see Grace, but since the actress wasn't available, I'm glad they said she married Chad.
ReplyDeleteEspecially loved watching Lori Loughlin again. She was the best Hallmark ever had. I'm glad gac family had the courage to hire her. Her scene with Jack was so touching. I watched it three times ππ and Cody grew up to be A handsome, respectable, and kind young man. Hope to see Abigail and Cody back home in Hope Valley soon.
Speaking of Hope Valley.. The new teaser for WCTH looks good. Almost looks like Lucas might propose to Elizabeth in a hot air balloon. Exciting! Season 9! It'll be here soon.
The When Hope Calls Christmas is also on Prime video. I noticed a lot of gac family movies are.
Hope you all have a happy, happy Christmas!!π❤⛄ Can you believe it's only five days away now?!!
Abigail, So happy to hear how much you enjoyed watching "When Hope Calls!" It's so nice they are offering the movies on Amazon Prime for those who don't have the ability to watch through GAC Family.
DeleteI can't believe how fast Christmas is coming!!! Joyous Blessings & Merry Christmas to you!!! :)
Toying with the Holidays was family friendly. It was fairly average for Lifetime. I like Chad and Cindy so it made my watch list but I don't know that I would watch it again in the future.
ReplyDeleteTis The Season To Be Merry was family friendly. I'd put it as one of the better ones I've seen this year. Rachel and Travis play well off each other and they both have a sarcastic sense of humor in the way they deliver their lines.
Christmas for Keeps was family friendly. It had an interesting premise that went deeper than Hallmark likes to go. I liked the ensemble cast with the overlapping stories.
Kay
Kay, Thank you so much for sharing these 3 movie reviews. I was especially glad to see your review of "Tis The Season To Be Merry" before I recorded it today!
DeleteMerry Christmas to you!!! :)
I'd like to add on that I've been informed that there was a line I missed in Christmas for Keeps. I'm sorry if anyone watched it after reading my review thinking it would be family friendly.

:) I would've missed it, too, but my husband heard it. It was said so quickly.

Net, I want you to know how Merry you have made my life all through this year. In the toughest of days, there is always sunshine on your site. Your love for our Lord is strengthening and encouraging. God bless you and Merry Christmas!!!
Christmas for Keeps is not completely family-friendly. One of the women characters says, "I guess that's why I date women." We stopped it there, so I'm not sure about the rest of the movie.
ReplyDeleteAnnie, You mistook what Mia said the part she said That’s why Mia used to date women but she didn’t say That’s why she dates women. Since Mia was doing “A Christmas Carol” with her friends: Noah, Sarah, Ben, & Avery with their Drama Teacher named James Massey
DeleteMia is still single but she’s not dating anyone
Noah & Sarah (Married Couple), Avery & Ben (Dating), and Mia & none (Mia is single)

I don’t mean to be a negative nan but I personally was a little let down by the When Hope Calls special. I loved returning to Brookfield and seeing everyone again but they completely dropped and/or ignored some plot lines from season one. These plots had nothing to do with Grace or Chuck so there was no need to jump ship so abruptly. I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone. One of the stories that I was most looking forward to was completely set aside in favor of an extremely predictable, rushed romance. It’s not that they didn’t go the direction I wanted, it’s that they didn’t even resolve it satisfactorily. It was almost as if there were different writers and producers though I know that the production team was all the same. Aside from that, I loved seeing Abigail and Cody again as well as Daniel Lissing as Jack, although I’m not sure how I feel about the way his appearance on the show was handled. I’m on the fence about it. Sorry for the negativity! Lori Loughlin was wonderful and it was a heartwarming story, I’m just having a hard time getting over my disappointment in not seeing a certain story played out. Lol. But I’ll be ok π
