Definitely sounds better then Hallmark's! (and it even opens 9 days before theirs does!) -Maria
ReplyDeleteThis sounds so awesome. I am wondering if we might see a hockey movie with New York Islander players either for Christmas or next year.
ReplyDeleteImagine going to this Christmas festival as well as see the Rockefeller Christmas Tree lighting and possibly the Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City area. That would be amazing! Wow!
ReplyDeleteHey Jim, before we had kids my husband and I used to travel a lot and we went to New York for Thanksgiving week and got to see the Thanksgiving Day Parade live. It was amazing to watch being that I have always watched it growing up on TV, playing in the background during cooking on Thanksgiving. I am from a super small town in California so I was just in awe of everything. We went ice skating at Central Park, saw the 911 memorial, went to libraries and churches, walked the Brooklyn bridge (which I could never do now in my 30s π) One thing that freaked me out was all of the law enforcement and bomb squad they had there to keep the huge event safe for everyone. This was in 2016 that we went. I appreciated New York taking all of the precautions but it freaked me out a little. I remember thinking “what are we going to do if God forbid something happens…..” Like we wouldn’t have been able to really run in that massive crowd of people….I definitely would love to visit again one day, but I don’t know if I am brave enough to take our two children, they are 3 and 6.

Paula, your description of New York City at Thanksgiving and Christmas sounds so wonderful. I have always had a fantasy of going during that time like you did and doing all those things and this GAC Festival adds even more to the fantasy. My anxiety stops me from making my fantasy a reality though, at least so far.
DeleteI have such an idealistic view of New York City during the holidays. I'm sure it couldn't live up to these expectations, but I still would love to experience it for myself in person instead of seeing it on tv and in movies.
I watched a video on YouTube of someone clipping a camera to their person and walking Manhattan during Christmas season making you feel like you were there walking the streets. They had the camera set so that it looked like you were looking out of their eyes. It was wonderful getting that perspective.
Sounds like it would be fun. ~3-3.5 hours from me.
