Movie Reviews:
π "Pumpkin Everything is family friendly. It’s based on the book by Beth Labonte. Amy Fox is a Horror novelist returns to her hometown in Autumnboro, NH to look after her stubborn Grandfather named Tom Adams & his pumpkin themed store called; “Pumpkin Everything”.. While staying there she crosses paths with her High School old flame named Christopher “Kit” Parker from her past whose working with Amy’s Grandpa Tom’s own pumpkin themed store; “Pumpkin Everything”.He’s working with the owner of the Pumpkin Everything store, Tom Adams. When Tom’s Granddaughter named Amy Fox. returns to town to look after her grandpa and his store a romance with Tom was the last thing on her mind — but their shared history could be just what she needs. Amy wants her Grandpa Tom do residential DJ at Oakwood Retirement Village. Thomas “Tom” Adams wants to sell his Pumpkin Everything store to Kit Parker. Amy congrats Kit whose is currently owner of Pumpkin Everything." ~Anonymous
π "Pumpkin Everything was family-friendly, but it dragged for a long time with the grumpy grandfather. It would definitely bore kids as it was not a light-hearted movie. It was not a fun escape movie. Also beware that there are multiple (non-Hallmark) commercials for prescription drugs with men kissing so make sure you use the super-fast forwarding speed for commercials on the DVR. It was quite explicit and impossible to miss." ~Anonymous
π "Anonymous, I can't watch anything on Hallmark anymore unless I record it first so I can skip commercials and promos. I found Pumpkin Everything to be sad, and definitely not much celebration of Fall like I expected. Taylor Cole's acting was not as good as I expected either. Suppose I got too excited about this movie." ~kitkat
π "For someone getting close to 70 quicker than I wanted to, Everything Pumpkin highlights some things that we have to struggle with. For me I’m glad that these issues are addressed. Not everything needs to be a ROM Com. Especially when they are overdone. Hopeing that upcoming Christmas movies aren’t all fluff but have some substance, especially when addressing what Christmas is all about." ~JoCo
π "Pumpkin Everything is family friendly. It was nice to see a truly fall movie with tons of fall decor. The theme of wanting to care for aging parents and grandparents while trying to respect their independence was very well done and emotional. The movie was more about the granddaughter/grandfather relationship while the romance was on the side. Very sweet fall themed movie." ~melnewlife

Movie Reviews:
π " "Autumn in the City" -- I'm not watching live, but I got curious, checked social media, and found multiple people mentioning homosexual content." ~Alicia
π "Autumn I’m the city. FYI: 15 minutes in she meets a man serving pumpkin bread on the side walk. She ask him if he made it and he said no, but my husband did. They own the coffee shop." ~Anonymous
π "Autumn in the City is not family friendly. About 15 minutes in we're introduced to two married guys who run a coffee shop/cafe together. My guess was that they would play an integral role as new friends and a local hangout spot for the new-to-town Aimee Teegarden, so I fast-forwarded to see if they popped up again and don't you know my guess was correct. The next scene with all of them together has the two guys giving her life advice and talking about when the two of them fell in love. So... I deleted that Hallmark wokeness and am moving on to other things on the dvr that I can watch and delete to make room for all the upcoming Christmas movies." ~~Jane
π "Didn’t take long for Autumn in the City to go off the rails. Hallmark did it again. Has a Guy and his Husband running a coffee shop." ~JoCo
π "Autumn in the City not family friendly." ~Anonymous
π "Autumn in the City is not family friendly. Piper Grant moves into Abbie’s friend named Amelia’s apartment # 503 when an aspiring writer named Austin Edwards who crosses the hall apartment # 502. Piper is bouncing in between temporary jobs. Piper meet Will who serves pumpkin bread for sample when she ate it. Will’s Husband named Toby who owns Keystone Cafe. Toby gets Piper a pumpkin spice latte. Both Piper & Austin come across same path. Will & Toby encourage Piper & Austin to have picnic together unless delivery guy on the bicycle hands Piper & Austin a blanket & picnic basket. Piper is doddering a sketch from her portfolio. Austin writes children’s books; “A Magic Acorn”, with an illustrator named Piper. Ms. Snowburry says a company needs an established illustrator for the books but Piper is really good at it. Take a look before Piper leaves Snowburry Publishing. Austin’s Mom named Patricia hands her Son; Austin a personalized pen. Austin gets children’s books publish with “A Magic Acorn”, books. Patricia, Austin, Will, & Toby celebrate Piper’s 30th Birthday on rooftop. Will brings Piper’s Birthday cake." ~Anonymous
π "Autumn in the City was going slow for me but then Hallmark just HAD to add a gay couple...SO TIRED OF THIS...not many movies on Hallmark these days i care to watch" ~Anonymous
π "Someone already said this, but be warned that Autumn in the City has a gay couple about 15 minutes in. Piper is offered a sample of pumpkin bread on the sidewalk (do they even do that in NYC?), and she asks the guy if he made it, and he says, "no my husband did" then invites her into the bakery to meet him. That's when I turned it off." ~melnewlife
HALLMARK MOVIES & MYSTERIES
All premieres are 9 p.m. ET/PT.
Nikki & Nora: Sister Sleuths
Starring: Hunter King and Rhiannon Fish
Premieres: Sunday, October 2, 2022
Storyline: Fraternal twins Nikki (King) and Nora (Fish) are forced back into each other’s lives when they inherit a detective agency. As they solve a murder, they realize their differences may be their greatest advantage.
Movie Review:
π "My mom and I watched Nikki and Nora Sister Sleuths tonight and enjoyed it. There is drinking as some had mentioned from the preview, but partially because some of the scenes take place at a cop bar (a source of information). I thought the characters were well developed and the clues to pick up on were good. If you pay attention, you just might solve it before the big reveal. As a side note- the nod to Nick and Nora Charles of The Thin Man murder mysteries (1930s-40s) was subtle but fun." ~Anonymous
π " "Nikki & Nora: Sister Sleuths" -- I would say it's as family-friendly as any murder mystery! I enjoyed it overall, can't think of anymore to say without risking ruining it, and would watch if the series continued. For those who've experienced pain and trauma due to abuse of alcohol, I sympathize and understand that movie scenes including alcohol can ruin the enjoyment for you. In this movie, there are brief scenes at a bar complete with alcoholic drinks, as that is the law enforcement hangout spot, but there is no drunkenness shown or promoted." ~Alicia
π "Nikki and Nora: Sister Sleuths was a good mystery movie, and it was family friendly for teen and up. There is mention of one suspect’s affair (obviously not in a positive light). I hope they make a second movie as I liked the characters. It also does not follow the usual Hallmark formula! I watched it with my mom and 13-year-old, and all of us enjoyed it." ~Anonymous
π I just finished Nikki and Nora. Family Friendly, was I the only one or was anyone else disappointed by the ending. I don't what to spoil it for anymore who hasn't seen it yet, but the killer was my favorite character before... I guess because it's about sisters, they didn't want to cast love interests. ~Abigail
π Abigail, It's so funny that you left this review - just a few days after I watched this movie for the first time, and I've been meaning to tell you (without saying too much and spoiling it for others) that I had the EXACT same feeling from watching it. The whole movie was rather interesting and enjoyable until the VERY END. I thought it might be one I'd watch again sometime, but after the revealing of who-dun-it, this one-time watch was enough for me. ~Net

*NOTE: I will not be promoting this film due to it's content.
Movie Review:
"Mid-Life Crisis is not family friendly. 15 minutes into the movie lesbian couple introduced and already kissed. Turning off as I write!! Do sick of this! I wonder how many of our Christmas movies will be ruined this year!!!" ~Joyce in Carolina
Perfect Harmony

Movie Reviews:
π΅"I loved “Perfect Harmony.” I had to keep myself from full on sobbing at the end." ~Anonymous
π΅"Perfect Harmony is family friendly. Jack Chandler is Pop Singer & Barrett Woodward is a Poetry Professor must put aside their differences when their best friends named Naomi & Simon decide to get married. Jack & Barrett are working together as Best Man & Maid of Honor soon lead then to the duet of a lifetime. Jack & Barrett duet some songs: Total Eclipse of the Heart & Perfect Harmony. Barrett gets an old lyrics book out of Teddy’s Mom’s old desk. College Professor Barrett tells her student; Teddy Don’t forget to study poem. Jack & Barrett sing a duet “Perfect Harmony”, at their best friends’ Wedding Day." ~Anonymous
π΅"Watched "Perfect Harmony" and really liked it. I almost quit in the first 10 minutes but glad I kept going. Family friendly. It would be a keeper for my dvr but I need to make room for Christmas movies. I truly appreciated the more experienced actors & actresses in this movie (some of the younger, less experienced actors/actresses quite grate on my nerves -- thus why I haven't been totally thrilled with all the many GAC movies from the spring & summer that I've been powering through this past week to free up room on the dvr)." ~~Jane
My *Quick* Take:
I'm excited to see the new movie, "Pumpkin Everything!" I mean, the name alone sounds perfect for the Autumn Season! Plus, how can you not like a granddaughter who helps out her grandpa with his pumpkin-themed store? I'm so there!
Which Fall movie (or movies) are you pickin' to see this October? Please share your thoughts on the new movies in comments below...
Note: I haven't pre-screened these movies. If you like, you can share a review in comments after the movie premieres. Thank you!
I think all the family-friendly ones sound like they have potential to be really good! Glad to have some pumpkins and fall leaves!

Oh yay, Net, I typed up that quick comment thinking Blogger's commenting system would still give me an error and block it, but it appears to have worked!!! Hoping they really got it fixed!
ReplyDelete~Alicia
Alicia, That's wonderful news! So happy to hear you can comment again!
DeleteAnd, soooo good to know you are looking forward to the fall-themed movies, too. Hope many here will be good ones! :)
My girlfriend and I used to love watching the Christmas movies from Hallmark. Sometimes it would take us a few months to go through them all, We enjoyed most of them, even if some were silly or the actors looked like they were just going through the motions. I think this bid to show more diversity is more of an annoying distraction than a genuine portrayal of modern society and takes away from the channels "Family Friendly" reputation!
Deleteor
I was expecting more for Fall, but i guess i shouldnt be surprised since they always skip over fall. the 1st movie was already supposed to be on, and it is a summer girlfriend trip, so blahhhhhhhhhh. that leaves only 2 movies. and another new mystery????? NONONONONONONO.
ReplyDeleteHallmark fell flat on its Mahogany movie, only getting 0.40 on the HMM channel. i know some watched on the HM channel, but not sure how they can count it cause people could have changed the channel. i know in the past when they have done on multiple channels they had way higher ratings.
Why call this Fall into love when there are 2 fall movies? the girlfriend movie was originally called summer gf getaway or something. The ratings continue to fall.
I will say, I like Rhiannon Fish a lot, and Hunter King as well. But i wont watch a new mystery til the highly rated others get an ending.
Sabrina
Sabrina, I know just what you mean. They seem to keep on sprinkling in new Hallmark mysteries - every other month or so, but not resolving any of the older ones. It is very frustrating to me, too.
DeleteWith the way Kristoffer Polaha recently talked about Mystery 101, it appears they are, at least, talking about finishing it. If they do, I'm sure it will be in part to all of the fans complaining about them not continuing this incredible series. I'm sure that's the only reason they are considering more Signed, Sealed, Delivered movies, as well.
I’ll believe it when I see it regarding Mystery101, but I will be upset if they leave us with that horrible cliffhanger. I’m upset we’ve had to wait this long. I’m pretty sure they said the next movie had already been written, so finish it already. As for SSD, yes, the only reason they would continue is the fans are relentless and want it to go on forever. I campaigned with them to get Shane and Oliver’s wedding, but now that that’s happened I’m ready for it to be over because I’m afraid if they do continue it won’t be family friendly anymore. They campaigned for multiple movies then and it took 4 years to get it with the COVID delays and everything. I highly doubt they would give more than one movie at this point.
DeleteI, for one, I'm excited to see new mystery series. Series like Aurora Tea garden can't go on forever. It gets stale and old. Take Crossword Mysteries. If they end, it ended on a perfect note. They got together and they're happy. The only one that I would really need resolved is Mystery 101. Otherwise, when I watch again I just have to end before the cliffhanger. The cliffhanger does not exist. Excited to see these new movies and support them.
DeleteThere is no way Girlfriendship has a fall feel to it. it was supposed to be played end of July and it was a Summer girlfriends trip. Hallmark, try again. What can some of us that like Fall have to do to get some fall movies? 2 movies, that is all, of an entire several months long Fall Into Love.
ReplyDeleteSabrina
NYC Autumn Love Story was an originally titled Autumn in the City
ReplyDeleteNo thats not true. You have it backwards, Autumn In The City was originally NYC Autumn Love Story. Autumn In The City is the new official title.
DeleteJust really not feeling it. Looks like October will be a good time for anything but Hallmark.
ReplyDeleteVery dubious about Gitlfriendship (looks to me another ratings disaster).
ReplyDeletePumpkin Everything and Autumn In The City both look good on paper - interesting that Evan Roderick is 5 years younger than Aimee Teegarden.
Don't know about Sister Sleuths - wonder if there will be a romantic element to it? - Florence
Girlfriends” Summer Getaway was originally titled for Girlfriendship
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Hallmark will keep Girlfriends’ Summer Getaway for next Summer movie
I’m looking forward to James Denton’s movie and crossing my fingers that it’s family friendly. I’m disappointed that Teri Hatcher’s movie isn’t family friendly.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'm going to watch any of these. Plus all throughout October, I plan on starting to get through my growing collection of favorite Hallmark Christmas movies on DVD. -Maria
ReplyDeleteMichael Ironside is in TV movie; “Pumpkin Everything”, is his 1st Hallmark movie
ReplyDeleteAutumn in the City looks really good.
ReplyDeletePumpkin Everything
ReplyDeleteNot sure I’m happy with The Thin Man reference to the new mystery. I know they will not do it justice. Who can match a classic?
ReplyDeleteI hope Taylor Cole's movie is clean. I have been looking forward to it!πππ
ReplyDeleteHallmark movies are not fun for me to watch anymore. If one is especially enjoyable then maybe I'll watch. Thank you Net for posting all the information on movies from all the different channels. Have a wonderful day and God bless.
ReplyDeleteI would really LOVE it if they made a Thanksgiving themed movie sometime. It’s such a special fall holiday, and there’s so much opportunity for mixing in comedy, food, and heartwarming multigenerational family stuff.
ReplyDeleteMarry Me in Yosemite is family friendly. Zoe Best is a photojournalist to National Park at Yosemite whose sent by her Boss back home where she works. Zoe asks Jake to marry her without wedding guests. Jake & Zos are getting married in Yosemite.
ReplyDeleteDating the Delaneys is family friendly. Maggie Delaney is a divorced Mother who, after learning her ex-husband is getting remarried, ventures into the dating world with the encouragement of her mother named Barb & teen daughter Emma. Helping her along the way is Michael Taylor is a single Father of her son’s friend, who offers to help by going on a “practice date.” Michael also volunteers his public relations expertise so Maggie can prepare for her upcoming television interview on a local program spotlighting her bakery, Sweet Sensations. Emma & John are cutest couple. Entire family & friends watch Maggie’s cooking show on TV. Maggie Apple Spiced Cake & Apple Crumbled Cake, more.
ReplyDeleteWe'll be watching Nikki and Nora. Watched these ladies two recent movies and I thought they were both excellent. Rhiannon Fish and Benjamin Hollingsworth had the better chemistry and storyline, but I can definitely see her and Hunter King as sisters. Excited to see a new mystery series.
ReplyDeleteWant to take the time to say how helpful your monthly schedules are for me planning my viewing - everything in one place "at a glance" including dates, casts and posters! I don't comment as often as I'd like and want you to know that I look for the Hallmark & Up schedules especially here every month and use them and that your work is appreciated. Thank you!!!
ReplyDeleteCan anyone tell me if the sister sleuth movie was family friendly or not?
ReplyDelete"Nikki & Nora: Sister Sleuths" -- I would say it's as family-friendly as any murder mystery! I enjoyed it overall, can't think of anymore to say without risking ruining it, and would watch if the series continued.
DeleteFor those who've experienced pain and trauma due to abuse of alcohol, I sympathize and understand that movie scenes including alcohol can ruin the enjoyment for you. In this movie, there are brief scenes at a bar complete with alcoholic drinks, as that is the law enforcement hangout spot, but there is no drunkenness shown or promoted.
~Alicia
Alicia, Thank you for sharing this great review! It's good to know the bar scenes are not a major part of the story and really good to hear this one was family-friendly... for a mystery.
DeleteI shared your review above. Thank you, again, for letting us know your take.
Hallmark seems bent on suicide and is heading straight off a cliff.
ReplyDeleteThey just won't give the viewing public the movies they want.
Girlfriendship was another ratings disaster coming in with overnight figures of 1.14m viewers - the lowest this year - Florence
Pumpkin Everything is family friendly. It was nice to see a truly fall movie with tons of fall decor. The theme of wanting to care for aging parents and grandparents while trying to respect their independence was very well done and emotional. The movie was more about the granddaughter/grandfather relationship while the romance was on the side. Very sweet fall themed movie.
ReplyDelete"Pumpkin Everything" -- Hmm. I felt like the romance in the script didn't really happen on screen, and perhaps this one maybe coulda shoulda been on HMM, instead. I totally understand Grandpa's big life changes are hard, but he was cast quite young and able, could have taken more responsibility for working around his own limitations, and theoretically might have had quite a few options. His grumpiness hit a personal nerve and this is not one I'll re-watch.
ReplyDeleteMy perspective is unique: I quit driving at 20-something, not because someone made me, but because I saw myself losing the sharpness needed to be safe. Serious sickness from an insect bite was taking away the normal life I had always known, and I am still not able to support myself or live independently more than a decade later. The fact I can even write this now is a miracle. Though life is nothing like what I wanted or planned, what kind of person would I be to pout and punish loved ones who are here for me, just because I haven't gotten my way? Think of what this world did to Jesus Christ; goodness, why should I act like life is somehow wronging me!? This is the one I've been given, and I should strive to live it to the glory of God even though it became, and continues to be, incredibly hard.
At the same time, my grandparents, in their 80's, are needing more and more help, yet shove family away, make things infinitely more stressful than they need to be, and petulantly insist on so much independence that they're getting taken advantage of by strangers. That is far from graceful aging! Where's the unselfish outlook that reflects gratefulness for the very long life of ease they've enjoyed and simple acceptance of the season that's now upon them?
My great-grandmother did it well: she gave input but accepted help and arrangements her daughter made, which thoughtfully maintained as much independence as possible for as long as possible. She ended up at an assisted living facility eventually, and, at 14, I would take my turn staying overnight with her to assist with bathroom and meds, all so she could live there longer. Through everything, all the way to age 96, she stayed SO sweet and kind, always considerate of everybody. Not a soul escapes the changes that invariably come with the sunset years, but I wish everyone, when it comes their turn, would do it like our sweet Jo-Jo did it.
That was quite a spiel, wasn't it?! Clearly the movie got to me. :-) Despite my monologue, I can see how it would be a nice family movie as a lesson in widening perspectives, perhaps especially for those who haven't experienced firsthand the care of elders. I hope those who've read the book found the movie to be satisfying and enjoyable!
~Alicia
Net, there's something so special about families taking care of each other, like it's how it's meant to be, isn't there? If only everyone were as blessed to have sweet grandmothers such as ours were. I hope you found "Pumpkin Everything" to be a good watch. :-)
DeleteAutumn in the City is not family friendly. About 15 minutes in we're introduced to two married guys who run a coffee shop/cafe together. Jane, I hope your DVR is ready! I've been busy going through mine this week, too. Some shows/movies are easier than others to delete forever.
DeleteThank you also for sharing this information on Autumn in the City. It's sad to hear, but somehow, I wondered about this one focusing on city life and all. You never, though, these days when storylines like this will pop up.
Hopefully, we will have many great Christmas movies this year that will be keepers! :)
Someone already said this, but be warned that Autumn in the City has a gay couple about 15 minutes in. Piper is offered a sample of pumpkin bread on the sidewalk (do they even do that in NYC?), and she asks the guy if he made it, and he says, "no my husband did" then invites her into the bakery to meet him. That's when I turned it off.
ReplyDeletemelnewlife, I appreciate you taking the time to share about Autumn in the City, too. It's good you were able to find out earlier in the movie, than later.
