PLOT:
A week before Christmas, Paula (Nicole Eggert) finds herself struggling with bills and life with her blue-collar husband Gary and her two daughters. When Nick, her High School boyfriend returns to town a wealthy art Gallery owner, Paula wonders if she made the wrong decision when she took the wrong date to the prom. What would her life have been like if she stayed with Nick? Christmas is a time for Miracles, and so when Paula wishes she could see what her life would have been like if she'd made the other choice, she finds herself magically transported through her washer/dryer to a parallel life where she is Nick's wife.
At first, this new life seems the answer to her dreams, as she shops and dines out with her newfound wealth. But she soon realizes that the grass is NOT always greener. Her relationship with Nick is in shambles, and she misses her real husband Gary and her two girls. When she sees Gary and her kids living a happy life with another woman, she wishes for just one Christmas gift to have back the life she didn't appreciate.
Movie Review:
Cute Movie. Paula realizes after dreaming / living through briefly what she thought was the life she always wanted ... that what she had... was really a Wonderful Life!
One important Caution: in order for Paula to go into her supposed Dream World - she crawls thru the Clothes Dryer. This scene concerned me for young viewers- so please don't watch this with them. It's kind of a silly moment, but still the movie is cute and light-hearted.... and makes you appreciate your family and everyone around you all the more!
See or Skip:
See, but not with your children due to dryer scene mentioned above, plus there is drinking and relationship entanglements not suitable for young viewers.

ReplyDeleteThis movie is amazing !
ReplyDeleteWhile this movie is not on the same level as say "It's a Wonderful Life," it is an enjoyable view. I watch it every Christmas, and in fact, have just finished seeing it today (July). Hokey-- yes but a recommended must see.
ReplyDeleteI watch it every year too. It has some nuances that I might have missed if I only saw it once.
DeleteI love this movie. I also watch it every Christmas. I agree about the clothes dryer scene but the story really makes me appreciate what I have and not what I don't.
ReplyDeleteLove this movie. Its been a must see at Christmas time for me ever since I first seen it 2010.
ReplyDeleteI really like this movie! I think that it is different from others that follow the same modus operandi of character-bumps-head-and-wakes-up-in-another-life, because I totally bought into her frustrations in the less wealthy life. I think Eggert did a great job making us feel empathetic without us thinking she was ungrateful. My husband hates the movie, by the way, and felt she could have gotten a job to help out with the bills!
ReplyDeleteI watched this movie while visiting my mom in the hospital in 2014. At the time, I didn't know it would be our last movie together. She passed a few hours later that night. It wasn't the best, but we enjoyed it together nonetheless. I will now watch this movie every Christmas season in memory of our last time together!
ReplyDeleteMaybe it was holes in the story, or important scenes that were edited out, but I feel that the main character, Paula, didn't really learn to appreciate the old life in a fulfilling, redeeming way. There was no real character development to speak of. We learn of back stories through dialog. We never learn why Paula's life in the alternate life was so bad and it seems that she was to blame for the marital problems because she was obsessed with material things. Once she sees the "new life" is in shambles, she sort of chooses the lesser of the evils and decides to go back. So the lesson is money cannot buy happiness? But she created that problem herself. The "new" husband was never painted in a bad light, so all the blame is put on Paula. So what did Paula learn? If her new life was not falling apart, would she still miss being a mom or living the simple, boring life? That was never explored.
ReplyDeleteDecent movie, and it kept me entertained and I wanted to see the resolution, but it was uninspiring.
Wonderful movie!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love you from the first time that I saw it and I will watch it each time it airs you have to be grateful for what you have and make the best out of it because the grass is not always greener on the other side
ReplyDeleteI adore this movie and watch it every holiday season and also for me "Christmas in July" Christmas movie day. (which also includes Nicole Eggert in "Christmas Proposal"--just love her). Is this movie cheesy? You bet and I LOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely looooove this movie. Each year I look for it in the Christmas movie schedule. It's a sweet, magical story.
