Movie Reviews:
π Wedding Season - I enjoyed tonight's movie. Slow burn romance. Based on Samantha Chase's book. She had another book-to-film: The Christmas Cottage. ~ dstoutholcomb
π In the movie Wedding Season near the beginning of the movie you can see two females slow dancing together. ~Anonymous
π Wedding Season. Kinda cute but not a keeper for me. Family friendly except you'll need to fast forward through the one brief instance early in the movie where you see two women dancing together in the background of a shot. The two of them looked really awkward, almost like the Hallmark diversity director found two strangers milling around the set and told them to hurry up and get in the shot so Hallmark would get their "lgbtqxyz" social credits for the movie -- instead of an intimate slow dance like others on the dance floor, the women were almost standing at arm's length and looked like they hardly knew each other -- ridiculous Hallmark!! ~~Jane
π Have watched the Wedding movie with Stephanie Bennett--fell asleep. Liked the movie based in Greece. The others will be a no watch for me. There doesn't seem to be any chemistry between Becca Tobin and her costar. Hallmark seems to be reaching. ~Anonymous
‘LOVE’S GREEK TO ME’
Saturday, June 10 (8 p.m. ET/PT)
Starring: Torrey DeVitto, Giannis Tsmitselis, Marina Sirtis
When Ilana (DeVitto) travels to Santorini with her Greek boyfriend Mike (Tsimitselis) for his sister Alex’s (Katerina Konstas) wedding, she’s thrilled to be asked to be her American Maid of Honor. Mike surprises Ilana by proposing, leaving Ilana gets caught in the whirlwind created by his well-meaning and overly enthusiastic mother Athena (Sirtis).
Movie Reviews:
π Loves Greek to Me was hard to watch. If not for my wife, I probably would have stopped. Very negative feeling through out. Maybe it is their traditions but I can’t stand it when others want to control somebody else’s wedding. Especially when they make plans and commitments without even talking about it. ~Anonymous

‘THE WEDDING CONTRACT’
Saturday, June 17 (8 p.m. ET/PT)
Starring: Becca Tobin, Jake Epstein
Rebecca (Tobin), a teacher, and Adam (Epstein), an ad executive are excited to plan their Jewish wedding, but their wedding and future are put into jeopardy when Adam lands a new ad campaign, and their mothers meet for the first time.
Movie Reviews:
π The Wedding Contract is family friendly about Rebecca is a teacher & Adam is an Ad Executive are excited to plan their Jewish Wedding. However, their nuptials & future are put in jeopardy when Adam lands a new ad campaign & their Mothers meet. Rebecca & Adam have chuppah for their Jewish Wedding. She & Adam have a lot of common. They’re finally married. Adam broke the glass to step on the chuppah during their wedding ceremony. Kevin is gesturing Adam by saying I’m watching you. Adam picks Rebecca up at school when she’s teaching Kevin at school. ~Anonymous
π The Wedding Contract was a great movie. :-) The two leads had real chemistry and it did not have a contrived misunderstanding which was refreshing. I enjoyed getting to know some of the Jewish traditions. I highly recommend this sweet movie. :-) ~Joan
π I watched the Wedding Contract-It is Family Friendly! Very sweet movie, and I didn't know much about the Jewish traditions, so it was pretty neat to see that in a movie. I loved Becca Tobin-She always does such a good job in these movies, and I thought her chemistry with Jake Epstein was really present throughout the whole movie. ~Sarah
π The Wedding Contract – This June Weddings movie, starring Becca Tobin as Rebecca and Jake Epstein as Adam, is family-friendly and delightful! I thoroughly enjoyed Rebecca and Adam’s sweet love story and Becca’s role as a teacher. It was especially sweet to watch Rebecca help one young boy to read; those scenes truly touched my heart. Plus, the boy was absolutely adorable in a later scene when he warned Adam to be nice to his teacher. I thought the Jewish religious observations were shown respectively throughout the movie; however, since I’m not Jewish I cannot tell you if they were accurate. It was nice to see Becca and Adam honorably follow the religious customs and traditions of their family for their wedding. I wasn’t certain about the disagreeing mothers, at first, but in the end – they, too, captured my heart. Overall, “The Wedding Contract” was a pleasant, delightful, lighthearted watch. ~Net
‘MAKE ME A MATCH’
Saturday, June 24 (8 p.m. ET/PT)
Starring: Rushi Kota, Eva Bourne
Vivi (Bourne), an optimistic woman with a substandard romantic history, works at a data-driven matchmaking app. Once she discovers that the success rate for matches at her company is low, she hires Raina (Rekha Sharma, “Battlestar Galactica”), an Indian matchmaker, to provide advice on how to improve their numbers. As they embark on this matchmaking journey, Vivi meets Raina’s spontaneous son, Bhumesh (Kota), and questions whether finding love is something one must take control of or let naturally come to them.
Movie Reviews:
π I know many Hearties and Sleuthers are happy to see the return of actress Eva Bourne (from When Calls the Heart and Garage Sale Mysteries). However, I do want to caution the basis of this story is focused on fortune-telling. Eva's character, Vivi, enlists the help of an Indian Matchmaker, Raina, who gives her a palm reading. Unfortunately, while I'd love to see Eva again, due to this storyline, this movie is a skip for me. (the Bible on fortune telling) ~Net
π I’m pretty sure Make Me A Match was not family-friendly. I never watch premieres until I know if they’re clean. In this case, the tv didn’t get channeled quick enough after watching It Was Always You. Within the first five minutes there was an uncomfortable innuendo about a guy cheating on his girlfriend with his boss. I did not stick around to see how it turned out, but pretty sure it was not good. - The boss was implied a male. ~Anonymous
PREMIERING IN JUNE ON HALLMARK MOVIES & MYSTERIES
‘THE DANCING DETECTIVE: A DEADLY TANGO’
Filmed entirely on location in Malta
Friday, June 2 (9 p.m. ET/PT)
Starring: Lacey Chabert, Will Kemp
Sparks fly when a no-nonsense detective (Chabert) must reluctantly team up with a charismatic British dance star (Kemp) in order to solve a murder, literally one step at a time, at a stunning luxury resort in Malta!
Movie Reviews:
π The Dancing Detective: A Deadly Tango Review...
I thought this film was so cute and charming. It wasn't your average mystery series movie, definitely a rom com. Lacey and Will are perfect together! Their chemistry was spot on! I loved the dancing in water scene and hope to see more! Family-friendly as well.
It would have been nice if they didn't show them in the bed together, I know he was sleeping on the sofa, but still. And I loved the blue/navy dress with orange and yellow fruit she was wearing while dancing in the water. ~Abigail
π The Dancing Detective: A Deadly Tango. Totally agree with Abigail, this was a really cute movie and had me laughing at times. And the dancing in the water scene was unique; it could've gone way too sensual but they kept it light and fun. Looking forward to more movies with Will and Lacey. Family friendly, except there was one teeny tiny blip of an objectionable comment where someone implied that the dead guy (who was married) might like/appreciate handsome young males - it was vague and just a quick blip, easily missed. ~~Jane
π (In response to Laura's question, "Does anyone know if the dancing detective was family friendly?") Yes, it is family friendly and adorable. We had some storms here in Oklahoma so I get to look at 3 recordings to see if there are any of them that don't have pixels in them. I'm also going to look at it again to count how many movie & TV detective names Lacey called Will throughout the movie. ~Namegirl
π (Also, in response to Laura's question, "Does anyone know if the dancing detective was family friendly?") Hi Laura, yes it was family-friendly! But definitely had more of a romantic feel. It was a cute film and Lacey and Will were terrific together!! ~Abigail
π Hi! Sorry for the delay in posting. I was away enjoying a much needed vacation! :-) It looks like I am in the minority, but I honestly did not enjoy the new mystery with Lacey and Will. It bored me to tears throughout most of the movie. I figured out, who did it, rather quickly. The scenery was lovely and Lacey and Will had decent chemistry but I felt like Lacey was miscast. She did not seem to enjoy her role. I can't quite put my finger on it. Anyway, I thought Lacey and Will were MUCH better in 'The Christmas Waltz' which is one of my all time favorite holiday movies. ~Joan
π Dancing Detective: The Deadly Tango is family friendly about Constance Bailey who goes undercover as a contestant in a ballroom dance competition to investigate the murder of a high-profile CEO. She enlists the help of Sebastian Moore to help her pass herself off as a real contestant. Moore is described as a “charismatic and free-spirited performer.” The descriptions are reminiscent of the characters the two played in “Christmas Waltz,” except without the murder mystery twist. ~Anonymous
‘AURORA TEAGARDEN MYSTERIES: SOMETHING NEW’
Friday, June 9 (9 p.m. ET/PT)
Starring: Skyler Samuels, Evan Roderick, Marilu Henner
Aurora Teagarden (Samuels) is back home in Lawrenceton post-college near her mother, Aida (Henner). Working as a teacher’s assistant in a crime fiction class, Aurora is struggling to settle on a thesis for her post-graduate degree. To support her schooling and life, Aurora also waitresses at the local diner at night, where she shares her love of researching true crime with her friend Sally and police officer Arthur (Roderick). When Sally’s fiancΓ© doesn’t show up at their wedding rehearsal, Maid of Honor Aurora gets Arthur to help her search for him. When they discover a body, everyone assumes it is Sally’s tardy groom, but when it turns out to be someone else, Sally’s fiancΓ© becomes the main suspect.
Movie Reviews:
π Laura here. I know the new Aurora Teagarden isn't too popular but I had an attack of boredom last night and decided to watch it. It definitely had the feeling of the original series perhaps the same directing style. Although the casting is different keep in mind that for a prequel it would need to be anyway. This series focuses on Aurora solving her first crime when she was in college doing her master's degree. I think the cast they picked for Aurora, Sally, and Arthur were pretty good. They seem pretty close to how the original characters would have acted. As far as I know it was totally family friendly and compared to the other new mysteries that have aired recently, at least in my opinion, it held my attention and was interesting. I really think the man they chose for Arthur's character was true to his character. My only thought was that Aurora's character didn't seem bubbly enough and seemed slightly stiff. She didn't really match up to the Aurora we know but that's obviously because Candace Cameron gave that energy to the character. Sally too doesn't look too much like the Sally we know, but as I pointed out it is a prequel. Overall, however, I thought it was interesting and if they continue to be family friendly I will watch them. ~Laura
π Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Something New is an origin movie prequel. It’s family friendly. Aurora Teagarden is a waitress who works at the restaurant. Aurora’s friends; Arthur Smith is a police officer who works with Detective Cook Lawrenceton Police Station, & what’s Sally’s job must be. Aurora solves at the case in her bedroom with Arthur’s help. Aurora has 2 mystery books. Aurora. Arthur, & Sally are sitting at the table where Aurora works at the restaurant . ~Anonymous
π Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Something Borrowed - Ok, I gave it a try. I appreciated how the actors tried to sound like the former cast, Sally's character did the best with her voice and Arthur was kind like his old self. But Arthur has dark hair, not blond and he's not short. Sally's roll looked Hispanic and wrong hairstyle. The mystery itself was ok, I guess. I didn't have the same warmth as before. It was interesting seeing Sally's aunt Gladys before she died at Bubba's Wedding. I would rate this a 4.5. It was also family-friendly. ~Abigail
My Quick Take:
It's nice to see familiar actresses Torrey DeVitto, Becca Tobin, Stephanie Bennett, and Eva Bourne starring in the 4 all-new June Wedding movies. I think of the four, ‘THE WEDDING CONTRACT’ sounds the most intriguing to me, thus far, but we'll see.
As for mysteries, I'll be skipping the new Aurora Teagarden. It's not possible to make those successful, in my mind, without Candace Cameron Bure. No one can take her place.
I will, of course, be most delighted to check out the all-new ‘THE DANCING DETECTIVE: A DEADLY TANGO’ starring Lacey Chabert and Will Kemp, who have been magical on screen together in Love, Romance, and Chocolate and Christmas Waltz. I can only imagine they will be wonderful in this new mystery, as well.
Be sure to note, the new mysteries now premiere on Friday night.
June Weddings is back on Hallmark in 2023 since February 2015–2019 (June Weddings
ReplyDeleteNo June Weddings Movies - 2020-2022
The June Wedding movies look pretty good. Just hope they are family friendly! Like you Net, I will be skipping Aurora Teagarden. Can't do that without Candace! As for The Dancing Detective I will have to think on that one. I think it will be good, but after what HMM did to Mystery 101 not sure I can get involved in another mystery with them. Plus the fact they canceled the Crossword Mysteries with Lacy and are now putting her in another one. Can't figure these people out! I hope GAF will start doing mysteries!!
ReplyDeleteI don't like all these romance non-thinking movies that can be figured out in the first 5 min. Hallmark has really changed. I will try and watch dancing detective. I do agree the previous mysteries 101 and crossword. The actors all worked so well together.
DeleteOh wow. Hallmark actually deciding to bring back June Weddings with movies that all sound like they have forced diversity included in all of them. PASS!!
ReplyDeleteThose 2 mysteries? MAJOR PASS!! 1, I absolutely hate what Hallmark has unfairly done to all their popular mystery franchises. 2, I'd rather see Lacey and Will do that Christmas Waltz follow up. 3, Candace is the only one who can play Roe! Anyone else trying to is an absolute disgrace and insult to every fan who loved that franchise!!
-Maria
Hallmark cancelled Mystery 101 and does a new mystery movie for Lacy that is not Crossword mysteries. To top it up they bring back Aurora Teagarden movie without Candace because she is with GAC. What is Hallmark doing? I will not be watching any of it.
ReplyDeleteI am surprised to see Eva Bourne here since she missed last season of When Calls the Heart, but happy to see her star in her own movie. I loved her as Jennifer Shannon's daughter, Hannah as well as Clara.
ReplyDeleteI know I said I was going to stick to the original mysteries, but after seeing Lacey and Will... I just have to try it!!!
Still have mixed feelings over Aurora(fake) Teagarden. A big part of me says, "That's just wrong," but I can't help but be curious. I think I'll wait until I see reviews.
I'm so excited to read about The Dancing Detective: A Deadly Tango with Lacy and Will!
DeleteHere is a list of TV characters and couples in order in the movie: Starsky & Hutch, Miss Marple 2 times, Perry Mason, Det. Columbo, Stuart & Sally McMillan, Jonathan & Jennifer Hart, Jessica Fletcher, Det. Poirot, Rockford, Inspector Morse, Crockett (never heard of him), Sherlock Holmes, Sherlock, Watson, and Benoit.
DeleteMy main reaction on first read was - good grief doesn't Will Kemp look old (the first picture)!
ReplyDeleteI'll certainly give The Dancing Detective a watch, Lacey and Will do have great chemistry together.
The whole Paris Christmas Waltz scenario is shrouded in mystery - my feeling now is that it will only have a loose connection with the original movie and neither Lacey nor Will will actually be in it - we'll see.
The four June Weddings movies could be either a triumph or a disaster - interesting that Hallmark are using what I would call mostly (until now) "B"- list actors most of whom I know.
Wedding Season with Stephanie Bennett and Casey Deirdrick looks the most interesting to me - it might be a straightforward good old Rom.Com - I've liked both these actors in previous movies they've done.
The leads are fine in Love's Greek To Me - it depends on the movie's plot.
Make Me A Match is a case of wait and see.
I'm a big fan of Jake Epstein and have liked Becca Tobin previously but I've never really gotten into these movies with meddling mothers - another wait and see.
Of course the big question now is just how family friendly these movies are and for me personally although there is no mention of it whether any of these leads will have been previously married.
Florence
While I couldn't say I was the biggest fan of Aurora I did watch and like them but a prequel? - no, I can't say that appeals to me - it seems a dodgy move by Hallmark.
I don't care for suspense/murder mysteries, unless they have favorite actor(s) of mine in them, but a prequel? It seems to me that they are trying a last ditch effort to get Aurora Teagarden going again. Best wishes to them.
DeleteJake Epstein and Becca Tobin are the WORST pairing ever. I would have never put them together as a pairing. They're just not going to make a believable couple. Becca would match better with someone like Ryan Rottman in Sister Of The Bride or Niall Matter in Love At First Dance or Kevin McGarry in A Song For Christmas. For me, those were all good pairings. I dont feel like Becca and Jake will have chemistry whatsoever. If you look at the pictures of the two of them together you can just tell they dont have any. Jake would have even better paired with Eva Bourne more than Becca. So super bummed about this pairing.
ReplyDeleteThat’s interesting they are bringing June Weddings back. Not sure why they’ve never been able to figure anything out for May, between Mothers Day, graduations, Memorial Day, etc… there’s surely some title that would fit.
ReplyDeleteJune Weddings was always the best suited title for the month of June. Last year it was called Summer Nights, and it’s not really Summer til the end of June and then it flips to Christmas in July about a week later. Countdown to Summer was okay. Not sure why they didn’t keep that. CJ
Re Aurora Teagarden I’m more interested in the background to Sally’s character. Aside from a fix up we’ve never seen her dating anyone throughout the series.

Hello All.
ReplyDeleteGood comments and info.
Sorry I am underwhelmed with the movies presented. CCB is Aurora and can not be replaced. I have little faith in Hallmark delivering family-friendly movies so I am even apprehensive about the Lacy & Will movie.
GAF please develop some mystery movies.
-Gabe’s Mom
Gabe's Mom, I am with you on this. There is nothing here that interests me. I will continue to read more.
Deleteglad to see June Weddings is back
ReplyDeleteMy wife and I have all but given up on Hallmark. The channel we used to watch the most we rarely watch anymore. They have taken away so many of the good mystery movies. And going woke sure didn't help them any. Plus it seems as though they are not releasing very many movies on dvd anymore. Been waiting for some time now for Return to Christmas Creek, Christmas Bow, Love in Paradise and others. Haven't seen any of last years Christmas movies out yet. Yes it used to be our favorite channel, but now we've all but given up on them. Guess they have chosen the wide road.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your thoughts; I completely understand how you both feel about Hallmark. It is hard to navigate watching the channel these days. If you watch something older that you know you've enjoyed previously, you have to always be aware of what will be on next. We used to leave our TV turned there often throughout the day, but we no longer do that.
DeleteThe only Christmas movies released from last year, so far, are the ones from Christmas in July in a 6-film collection. Unfortunately, one of them contains woke content.
Hopefully, more Christmas movies will eventually be released on DVD individually.
You haven't seen any Hallmark Christmas movies that premiered Christmas 2022 out on DVD yet because they don't come out until this October/November. The Hallmark Christmas movies from the year before always get released the following October and November after they premiere the Christmas before. They've done that for years. Amazon always uploads the movies for pre order 3 months before they come out on DVD so the 2022 Hallmark Christmas movies that come out in October will be uploaded for pre order on Amazon in July and the movies that come out in November will show up on Amazon in August.
DeleteJune Weddings were never my favorite. but good to see Hallmark is going back to some traditions.
ReplyDeleteI dont watch any new mysteries, so wont watch any of these. I am sorry but Dancing Detective looks straight up stupid. We had perfectly great mysteries before Wonya took over, but Dancing Detective just looks plain stupid.
Not sure how young aurora is, but she didnt know Arthur that long in the books. And they didnt date that long either.
Only good thing may be that HOPEFULLY, Christmas movies start in June on HMM. But likely it will only be for a week on HMM and likely they will be all new movies so I likely won't be happy. More of the old movies will be pushed out for new, woke movies.
Sabrina
I’m watching Murder, She Wrote when I notice The Jane Mysteries: Inheritance Lost will air on HMM on May, 12, 2923 instead Sunday, May 14, 2023
ReplyDeleteNo wonder why Hallmark didn’t add Jane’s last name as in Jane DeSilvia Mysteries: Inheritance Lost
Net, Can you tell Hallmark to drop the & add Jane’s last name is DeSilvia
Jane DeSilvia Mysteries: Inheritance Lost just like, Emma Fielding Mysteries , Aurora Teagarden Mysteries, Ruby Herring Mysteries, & Hannah Swensen Mysteries

Thank you for mentioning this. When they first shared the new June mysteries would premiere on Friday nights, the new May mysteries were still scheduled for Saturdays, so this must be recent change for May, as well. It's makes one wonder if the different premiere night is an attempt for higher ratings; although, I've heard Friday nights are notoriously difficult to reach a high number of viewers.
DeleteShould be interesting to see how their ratings do with this change. It may be hard for viewers to get used to the idea of new mysteries on Friday nights.
And, I like the idea of using the full name in the title, too, but I doubt they would change it again.

Sabrina, Yay! It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas at HMM!!! I love seeing the Christmas movies in their Movie Section again!
DeleteI hadn't caught the addition of Northpole: Open for Christmas with Lori. So glad you mentioned it! That will be fun to see that movie again. I have it on DVD, but haven't watched it for awhile.
Wonder if it's too soon to add them all to the Christmas schedule? ...or if there will be several changes or additions?
Thank you for sharing the exciting news! :)
Net, same thing GAFAM - Christmas in July starts in June just before new Christmas in July movies. Last year Christmas movies

GREAT NEWS FOR MYSTERY 101 FANS
ReplyDeleteRevealed; Story behind ending of Episode 7 and how Ep 8 was to progress.
I'm surprised this hasn't been all over the media.
In an interview with the writer of Mystery 101 he elucidated the details.
Kristofer Polaha said at one stage that Episode 8 had already been written - this wasn't correct but the screenwriter had pitched to Hallmark how he saw it happening.
Here's a link to the interview:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWitcyOdTnQ
This is great news and I hope it brings some closure for many Mystery 101 fans here.
101 was my second favourite Mysteries series after Ruby Herring and while I'm disappointed to see it go it does make me feel better that at least I now know what was happening rather than being left in suspense.
I wasn't sure where to post this, it would have been good to find the article with the announcement of the program being withdrawn but that would have been like looking for a needle in a haystack.
Net, is there any quick way of finding previous articles without having to trawl through the site?
Thanks - Florence
Florence, Yes, I recall this. The Mystery 101 screenwriter, John Christian Plummer, shared in a podcast a basic synopsis of the story idea for the next potential Mystery 101 - that unfortunately never came into fruition.
DeleteKristoffer Polaha also has a conversation with Jill Wagner and Robin Thomas about this on YT.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhQIuKLqal0
(Thank you, Joyce in Carolina, for sending this link to me awhile back.)
It's such a shame this series had to end; it will never make sense to me. Hallmark wasn't thinking of their fans with this one, and I think it really hurts them with gaining trust from their viewers, who are reconsidering investing time in watching their future mystery or drama series.
As for your question, Florence, on how to find previous articles, I have a search bar at the top right sidebar of my website. If you are on a mobile device, you can see this third column if you scroll to the bottom of the page and choose *View web version *
After you put in your search topic, if you want to see the latest articles, be sure to click *Sort by date*
Hope that helps!

Have watched the Wedding movie with Stephanie Bennett--fell asleep. Liked the movie based in Greece. The others will be a no watch for me. There doesn't seem to be any chemistry between Becca Tobin and her costar. Hallmark seems to be reaching.
