Well. that's it! All 13 of the new Christmas movie premieres airing this weekend on Great American Family, the Hallmark Channel, Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, Lifetime, and UPtv!

Based on the promos I've seen, three of the new movies stand out to me... A Merry Christmas Wish, The Picture of Christmas, and The Royal Nanny.

First, I was thrilled when I initially learned that two of my all-time favorites, Jill Wagner (A Christmas Miracle for Daisy, Mystery 101) and Cameron Mathison (A Kindhearted Christmas, Home & Family) would be paired together in Great American Family's A Merry Christmas Wish. I personally love that the story takes place on a family farm. Plus, all the behind-the-scenes clips Great American Family has shown for this movie look soooo good!

Likewise, UPtv's The Picture of Christmas, will also take place on a Christmas tree farm. Both movies are about a woman from the city returning to her country roots to sell the family farm. The Picture of Christmas stars Giles Panton (It Was Always You, Love on Trend) and Chelsea Hobbs. In case you don't recognize Chelsea's name, she is well known as Blair, the rude, superficial, snobby girlfriend in The Nine Lives of Christmas. I took a sneak peek of the screener UPtv sent me for The Picture of Christmas last night, and I was definitely intrigued in just the first few minutes. Chelsea's character, Ember Morely, a graphic designer, and aspiring storybook illustrator, is much more likable than conceited Blair. It's always fun to see an actress play such different roles like this. I'm looking forward to catching the rest of the movie this weekend - or recording and watching it very soon!

The last movie I mentioned I'm looking forward to is The Royal Nanny. Okay, so I'm kinda over the whole Royal thing, but this movie looks like it will be more comical than most, and I'm always in for a light-hearted Christmas comedy. Hopefully, there won't be any distracting, odd accents or anything and the children will act like children and not psychologists. Anyway, the promos Hallmark is airing this week certainly look cute, so I'm game.

I also wanted to mention, Our Italian Christmas Memories deals with the heartbreaking issue of dementia. I had a very close family member who had this, and it was very sad and difficult to watch. Sadly, I'm sure many of you have dealt with this, as well. I'm not sure I'll watch this one right away, but I will be interested to see reviews from those of you who do.

I would love to know which Christmas movies appeal to you this weekend. Please be sure to share in comments below...

And thank you, to those of you, who have shared a movie review, thus far. If you'd like to check out the 2022 Christmas Movie Reviews shared by It's a Wonderful Movie family members and myself, please visit *here*.

Joyous Blessings to You All, Net

  2. I'm most looking forward to The Christmas Retreat - saw the trailer and thought it was great so I was delighted when UPtv picked it up.

I don't really know what to expect from In Merry Measure but Brendan Penny usually comes up trumps.

I've been a fan of Justin Bruening since The Thanksgiving House so I'm excited about Reindeer Games Homcoming.

I keep expecting great things from Great American Family and keep getting disappointed so let's see if Jill Wagner and Cameron Mathison can produce the goods.

Their best movie to date has been Jill'a A Christmas Miracle For Daisy last year - Florence

  3. "Christmas Sweethearts" aka "My Best Friend's Christmas" is one I watched via streaming earlier this year. Maybe I was just in a mood, but, as I recall, it just didn't seem quite on par with Great American Family's movies last year. The music was loud over the dialogue in parts, and the plot was a wee bit too silly for my tastes. Still good for a one time watch, though--everybody likes different things, and maybe it'll be a winner for you!

  7. I am looking forward to The Royal Nanny, In Merry Measure, and Six Degrees of Santa.

I too am over Royal movies, but this one looks good and funny. In Merry Measure looks so funny too, and Patti Murin is great from the preview. Now I am not a fan of the popstar movies, but this one looks good.

The Retreat movie looks good too cause i like Rhiannon Fish.

  8. Yes, Chelsea Hobbs has played the jealous wannabe girlfriend in the past, but it's been nice to see her play a kind character. She had a sweet personality in Ruby Herring and Martha's Vineyard as well. And her hair looks so good in her natural color, not bleached. I was excited to see her get a movie of her own.

    1. I liked Chelsea in Martha's Vineyard. Her character seemed to just get started when they abruptly ended it, like all the other mysteries.

Her hair is pretty either way, but I liked her "expensive highlights" in 9 Lives!

    2. I would have loved to see more of here in that series. I hope to see her as a main mystery character one day(would be great if GA Family started some)

Haha, I thought her hair looked soft, healthy and fresh in the mystery series.

  9. "In Merry Measure" -- family-friendly, this is one I quite enjoyed! Upbeat, with lots of joking, it has substance, as well. Most surprising is the fact that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is celebrated far more than is typical in a Hallmark movie, during the group's performance at the end as they sing of Him in these songs:
    "Hark the Herald Angels Sing"
"I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day"
"Go Tell it on the Mountain"

    Merry Christmas, all!

I'm sorry to hear about your family member with dementia Net. My Papa went through the same. He was mostly senile when I was young and then dementia in his last 2 years. I thank God that he loved the Lord. Isn't it amazing how God can break through and save those who are sadly medically kinda messed up in the mind! He did that for my Papa a year before he died. -I treasure my memories of him. I'm sure you do too of your loved one. And take comfort in knowing we will see our loved ones again someday!

  12. In Merry Measure is family friendly about Darcy was a one hit wonder singer. She’s come home to spend time with her family for Christmas. While there, she discovers her niece wants to sing for a local choir, The Herald Angels, but isn’t selected to join. The choir coach, Adam is very selective on who can join the choir, because it’s won a local competition 6 times and he wants to continue the winning streak. So, Darcy creates her own choir group from the people who weren’t selected. Only one choir can participate in the competition. So Darcy & Adam decide to compete to see who will go to the big competition.

Little do they know – the owner named Rae Reynolds of the retreat has enlisted the help of her newly unemployed Brother named Mark, who seems to share a lot of Kim’s tendencies. 15. "In Merry Measure" was such a good and heartwarming movie. I liked the idea of high school choir and all the preparations for the competition. Music was just great in this movie, all these Christmas songs. All the cast was so good. I liked the leading actors Brendan Penny and Patti Murin. By the way I didn't watch any movies with Patti Murin and was very impressed by her acting. She is so bright. All in all it was a really good movie and most importantly it was family-friendly.

  18. Reindeer Games Homecoming is really funny, heartwarming, and is a good one to watch if you're looking for something to laugh at! Plus, there was a small scene from 'Twinkle all the Way' included at one point on a TV.

There is of course 1 big downside (that I kind of suspected from seeing 1 of the trailers): Gay best friend who is also very dramatic.

I still enjoyed this one neverthless, and I got through it all instead of turning it off early on because this looked so good from the trailers. -Maria

  24. Watched A Merry Christmas Wish last night and was not disappointed. Loved the music for starters and acting was up to par as usual. Scenery was so much better than other movies so far. Only complaint was that it was very predictable. Storyline follows many that I have seen before. Would definitely be a keeper.

  25. Review: The Royal Nanny -
    Family-friendly? Yes -
    Keeper - Undecided -

Well, I give Hallmark points for originality on this one - a combination of a Christmas movie, a spy thriller, and a mystery! It made for a interesting storyline, and I admit I didn't know how this one was going to end. I thought the lead actress did a wonderful job in her role, and the supporting cast was enjoyable as well. Good for a one-time view, although I'm not sure it's a keeper for me - the romance is almost secondary to the spy plot, and that's not exactly what I'm looking for in a Hallmark Christmas movie!

    Keeper? Most definitely! -

I'm not sure how you can go wrong with having Jill Wagner and Cameron Mathison together in a movie. In my opinion, these are two of the very best actors for these kind of movies! You can tell that they enjoy each other's company - they both seemed to be having fun and even ad-libbing some of their lines to each other. The movie itself seemed like a throwback to the old Hallmark movies of years ago, and the supporting cast - especially the sister and the little girl - were great! One of the best so far this year!

    Keeper? Ugh!

It's not too often when I want a movie to end before it actually does, but this was one of those times. This movie is bad in so many ways! First, the storyline. Ashley will lie and deceive in order to get back with her ex-boyfriend Grant. Grant meanwhile has hooked up with arrogant Bella, although he keeps eyeing Ashley. Liam, Ashley's friend, has romantic feelings for Ashley, but is willing to help Ashley in her deception to win back Grant. People, can't you just be honest and tell each other how you truly feel? How old are you anyway?

Which leads me to what I really dislike about this movie. The two leading ladies act like they are teenage schoolgirls. Their mannerisms, their displays of giddiness, their mile-a-minute talking - this really wore on me after awhile.

Finally, the whole movie (and especially the ending) just seemed rushed and had a cheap look to it. For me, there is nothing to recommend Christmas Sweethearts.

    1. Giddy, teenage schoolgirls? "Ugh!" is right!! Thank you for the heads up. Love your reviews! And love deleting movies from my dvr and making more space for yet more Christmas movies! Woohoo!!

  37. Phew! My dvr is getting crowded!!
But these two movies quickly got deleted so at least there's some space for two more this weekend!

Christmas on Mistletoe Lake. I watched about 25% and just couldn't take anymore. It's probably an ok movie but it just wasn't thrilling me, so I quit to move on to better things. The part I saw was family friendly.

The Dog Days of Christmas. Seriously? No. Just, no. I couldn't take more than 25% of this movie. It was just weird and silly. I felt everything was sub-par/low-budget -- the acting, the set, the directing, the script, the whole production was just a big "no" for me. The part I saw was family friendly.

  38. Christmas at the Golden Dragon. Was not the complete dud I expected it to be. It won't be a keeper for me, but it was oddly entertaining for a one-time watch. It wasn't a traditional Christmas movie, but it was kind of fun and heartwarming to watch all the different lives intersect/connect through the Golden Dragon restaurant; and, yet, at times, it also felt a bit out-of-control and weird (the ending seemed a bit "off the rails" and unbelievable). There were some feel-good moments and some good messages in the movie, as well as some questionable ones. I would say, for the most part, it is family friendly. One dating couple appear to maybe be sharing a bedroom when they go visit their parent's home, but it's not blatantly obvious. A single woman is desperately trying to get pregnant through in vitro fertilization to have a baby all on her own with no husband in the picture (unfortunately, this seems to be a new trend in these movies). That same woman has some strong "feminist" ideas and some other questionable opinions, but, thankfully, her mother sometimes points out the opposing viewpoints. There's a single father with two little girls and for most of the movie I thought he was a widower, but then it turns out he's newly divorced and it's all handled kind of weirdly with the kids (I didn't understand why their mother wasn't a part of their lives at Christmas?? Was she out of town? Maybe I missed something in the beginning?). Overall, a cute and quirky movie that is non-traditional and would be fun to watch if you've exhausted all your other options. (By the way, I can't stand it when these movies throw in very obvious commercials for products and try to make it seem like a natural part of the movie. In this movie we got to extol the wonders of Walmart and Chex Mix. Ugh.)

  39. Christmas at the Golden Dragon - We enjoyed "Christmas at the Golden Dragon" as it was a departure from the usual Hallmark Christmas movie formula which is focused solely on romance. It was family-friendly and incorporated multiple story lines that all connected through the Golden Dragon Chinese restaurant and the place it held in each character's heart. The movie would not be interesting to younger children, but I found it heart-warming and engaging, and it even incorporated a scene from a Nativity pageant. I recommend this movie to people who want to watch a little something different this Christmas season.

  40. Six Degrees of Santa. I quite enjoyed it and thought it had a warm, cozy, holiday feeling about it. This one was ever so slightly different from the typical movies; it had the Lifetime movie "polish" or "naturalness" that I've heard others on here refer to in the past. It felt fairly well-acted all around (especially Steve Lund). Family friendly (the main actress is divorced because they're "better as friends", but that's typical for almost all the movies nowadays). Cute movie - a keeper for now (until I run out of dvr space).
