Mystery 101: Deadly History

Starring: Jill Wagner, Kristoffer Polaha, Robin Thomas

Storyline: Amy (Wagner) and Travis (Polaha) travel to New York to investigate when Amy’s uncle goes missing, as does all his research on the “accidental” death 50 years ago of a family heir.

🔎 "Mystery 101: Deadly History – Wow! What can I say? This was another spectacular, thrilling mystery from the “Mystery 101” franchise of films. First of all, the main cast is amazing with Jill Wagner, as Literature Professor Amy Winslow, Kristoffer Polaha, as Police Detective Travis Burke, and Robin Thomas, as Amy’s father and Author Graham Winslow. The trio travel to Ithaca, New York – as the search is on in this movie for Graham’s brother, Alastair (or Al) who has disappeared under suspicious circumstances. This role of Al is played by actor Peter Benson, who is explained in the movie to be the much younger brother of Graham. There are a plethora of interesting characters – tied to Al, who all seem rather guilty at one point or another. Plus, the movie is filled with numerous action-packed adventures as Amy and Travis both dodge bullets at various times: Amy takes a boat ride out to meet the ransomers and Travis rides out on an ATV to find them – with the help of a drone overhead. While the mystery plays the key role throughout the movie, there’s also a deeper connection developing between Amy and Travis – who share special moments of their past with one another. Every aspect of this movie is fascinating – from the mystery, itself, to Travis and Amy, and then there was THE END … another cliff hanger ending that has everyone talking … wondering … what does this mean??? This is a must see family-friendly mystery for around age 12 and up – due to some violence. “Mystery 101: Deadly History” is so good – it leaves you wanting more!" ~Net

🔎 "This was an excellent mystery which I really enjoyed although I found it very difficult to get my head around it, there was so much happening as it first swung one way and then the other, any of the cast could have been the culprit and there were plenty to choose from. Some exciting scenes too such as Amy going out on the lake in a boat to meet the kidnappers and then swimming to shore. I nearly didn't recognise Peter Benson at first. One thing I found off-putting as has happened with other actresses before is that several times it was pretty obvious that Jill was pregnant. Also for me it's got to the stage where it's a bit tired when the father "accidentally" interrupts a romantic scene! It was nice to have a different setting but I hope this was just a one-off. The ending came completely out of the blue - I can't even begin to think where this is going in fact I was saying to myself - is that really Kristoffer Polaha? It's impossible to believe that there won't be more of Mystery 101 although in the circumstances it might be some while and six months ago I wouldn't even have considered the possibility there wouldn't be but with many of the directions Hallmark is taking now I wouldn't be certain of anything. The does seem to be a history now of discontinuing some series without making any statement about it" - Florence

🔎 "Hannah Swensen movie: was full on woke, i mean it couldnt get more woke. All of the people in high positions on Hallmark are people of color. Eden Lake looked like a completely different place with different people. Hannah's out of the blue sister, very annoying, i get they are trying to replace Andrea but she was awful. Allison sweeney said in the books they have another sister, ok, but in 5 movies they didnt once mention another sister????????? Have they been stringing Norman along for the last 2 movies? The women is engaged to someone else dude, it was very awkward. The woman killed was married i believe and was kissing some guy on pictures, i just felt like this was a Lifetime movie. The movie just seemed weird to me. And just so weird the cast, i mean the band playing was asian, their were people walking behind mike and whoever the lady was at the police station and i saw so many different races of people walking around the police station. I get the need for diversity, but honestly, it feels like these movies have been told to have so many of each color. But they have seemed to skip the spanish and american indian. Hallmark is focusing on african american, and asian right now. Just like what is on the news now, although Cuban is on the news, but Cuban doesnt fit the narrative. It is so sad. I am all for diversity, but it just feels like diversity threw up on all these movies and it feels forced." ~Sabrina

🔎 "Hannah Swensen mystery - Sure... there were a lot of similarities to Murder, She Baked, but there was a lot of differences, too. The town is not Eden Lake anymore, now it's called Lake Eden. The new sister is a lovely actress (from Emma Fielding), but I also didn't think she fit well with Hannah and her mom, Delores. I missed Andrea so much, it felt like she was replaced with a younger, single version. Plus, I missed Bill with Mike at the station, too. And - I so wanted to see their little girl. It's definitely not the same. And yes... poor Norman, it felt like he was still in this love triangle, even though Mike and Hannah are engaged. I hope in the next one he moves on to someone else. Plus, one of the side characters was married and having an affair; it seems several men were interested in her. While it was good to see Hannah, Mike, Norman, Lisa, and Delores again, it didn't feel quite like Murder, She Baked. We were definitely not in Eden Lake anymore. I kept feeling like their was a missing ingredient; it was bittersweet." ~Net

🔎 "Watched all the Murder She Baked movies Sunday in anticipation of the new Hannah movie. Unfortunately, it was very disappointing. Andrea and Bill weren’t in it, they introduced a new sister that wasn’t mentioned in any of the previous 5 movies and Norman got very little screen time. Also, the Murder She Baked music typically played at the beginning of the movies and a little throughout was missing as well as the small town feel. It didn’t even feel like they were in Eden Lake anymore. They’ve used about four different locations for Hannah’s bakery through the years. The one in this movie was the same as the one used in the last Murder She Baked movie and it just doesn’t have the cute, small town bakery vide the previous ones did. If they decide to do more movies, they need to go back to what made the originals so great." ~Melissa

🔎 "I do love the actress that played Hannah's new and out of the blue sister, I just felt they were trying t get her to act like Andrea, and it was very unnatural. The actress that plays Andrea is a natural and nothing was ever forced. I LOVE when she plays the scene in peach cobbler mystery where she says melanie didnt even make the pie. that entire scene and after when she is kind of crying saying oh i need to sit down. so good and natural. Another great scene is when Mom is asking Andrea where hannah is, and mom says please dont tell me hannah is at douglas's, and Andrea says "fine, then i wont tell you hannah is at douglas's. She is a natural and the new actresses seemed like she was trying way to hard to be like Andrea. she should be herself, there is only one Andrea. I am sure a lot of the differences in this is because they likely couldnt use things and songs from the Murder she baked. Who knows maybe they couldnt use some of the characters? Could explain it. They only said Andrea moved so she could come back and either visit for a movie or move back. I wondered if they would pair Norman and Hannah's new out of the blue sister." ~Sabrina

🔎 "Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Honeymoon, Honeymurder - I thought it was a good mystery. Sally and Arthur both weren't in it this one, so it wasn't quite the same without their lighthearted banter. Aida and Philip, however, were included. While Philip was trying to pick up clues, Aida was dong her best to stay away from it all, but not successfully. Roe and Nick were fairly cute on their pre-honeymoon. I thought it was kinda of annoying, though, that they kept saying it was their PRE-honeymoon. It was almost as if going to a beautiful cabin nearby on the lake wasn't good enough to be their actual honeymoon, which was to be Paris. Another interesting tidbit... Roe and Nick were reading Robin Daniel's (her ex) new mystery thriller on their honeymoon. Anyway, it was a family friendly sort of mystery (I would say 12 and up, as usual, due to some violence) and even though I guessed the guilty person, it was still an intriguing who-dun-it!" ~Net

🔎 "I watched Aurora. Like you Net, I found them referring to "Pre-honeymoon" annoying. We get it. It did seem that Aurora and Lynn have made some connections for friends. I personally have found that to be very distracting and unbelievable. You have a person that is so good at solving crimes and you still do not bring her on as a consultant?? That alone has almost made me stop watching Aurora. I can't seem to get into the Hallmark movies that they have now. I watch more HMM." ~Joyce in Carolina

I am super excited about these three new mysteries; I can't watch to see this next chapter for Aurora Teagarden, this family mystery for Amy and Graham Winslow in Mystery 101, and of course, I think it's going to be extra exciting to see Hannah, Mike, & Norman return in the all new Hannah Swensen Mystery!
