Dear Friends,
Today you're invited to attend my birthday celebration - a few days early!
Ever since the pilot movie of "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" aired on our TV's back on October 12, 2013, I was completely captivated by this inspirational movie. Getting to know the characters of Oliver, Shane, Norman, and Rita more fully over the course of one television season and multiple movies has been an enormous gift for myself, and I know many viewers. The "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" fan base, the POstables, are incredibly supportive of the series and why wouldn't they be? Each story is an absolute treasure, a true masterpiece! Who knew so much mystery and drama could revolve around one written letter (or package, sometimes) and trying to solve who it was sent from or to whom it is being mailed to?
So... with my overwelming fondness of "Signed, Sealed, Delivered," I decided a few years back to have a "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" themed birthday party. Ever since then, I've been meaning to share a few pictures, but I just hadn't found the right time I guess. Well, since my birthday coming up this weekend is the exact day of the "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" marathon (Saturday, April 3, 2021) on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, I thought this would finally be the perfect time to share my "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" cake and party dΓ©cor with all of you!
First of all, the cake, my Ma-Ma's Million Dollar Pound Cake! It was actually my Grandmother's Mother's recipe and possibly went back several generations in our family, and all these years later, it's my absolute favorite!
The birthday cake was two tier with the top layer wrapped in brown fondant to look like a standard box for mailing. My Momma, Sister and I worked on it together; we used baker's twine around the box, and we carved indentations on the side to look like box creases.
To get the look of the bottom tier is a little trickier, you'll need to stack several layers of cake and have the postcard image printed with edible ink on wafer paper or frosting sheets. There are many bakeries that are able to offer this service, you'll have to call around in your area to ask. Or, there are places you can do this online, too. As you can see from the pictures, the image of the postcards we used came from the table cloth.
On the very top of the cake is a figurine of a girl holding a card and standing by a mailbox, by artist Kim Anderson. I used to collect those adorable pieces from our local Hallmark store. The actual name of the figurine is (you won't believe it!)... "Signed, Sealed, Delivered!" When I saw that printed on the bottom, I was truly shocked. I thought the sweet figure would be perfect on top of the cake, but initially, I had no idea the piece was literally named "Signed, Sealed, Delivered!" It nearly felt like my very own "devine delivery" moment! If you're interested, you can sometimes find this sweet Kim Anderson figurine on Amazon or most likely, Ebay. In fact, I recently saw several at Ebay - *Click Here to see!*
The cupcakes, I recall, were especially fun to do! I printed out a few images of the "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" cast, plus greeting cards and stamps and attached them all to cupcake picks. Along with those, my Momma, Sister and I decorated the cupcakes with owls, crowns, envelopes, stars and flowers - all made of sugar!
One of the cupcake picks said Miss Special Delivery, so I was sure to include a crown and owl with that one - for Rita! My favorite thing, however, were the little sealed envelopes made of sugar, with a heart on top. My sister found them at a bakery shop, and I just loved them!
For the garland above the birthday table, we hung twine and attached ribbons and greeting cards with clothes pins. The cards were mostly ones I've collected over the years from my precious family, from all sorts of holidays and occasions. One of the most meaningful cards was one my Ma-Ma (my late Maternal Grandmother) handmade for my birthday when I was a little girl. I'm pretty sentimental, so having it there was very important and special to me. In fact, having all of those lovely greeting cards there from different stages in my life, felt like I was surrounded by the love of my family and friends, past and present... what a blessing!
I hope you enjoyed seeing my "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" birthday party in pictures. How I wish I could deliver a fresh slice of birthday cake to each of you this weekend as I celebrate my day with family this year! I'll send my love to you all instead and across the miles, from my home to your home, I hope we can all watch some of the "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" marathon on Saturday together!

ReplyDeleteChris, I sure hope we will see a new "Signed Sealed Delivered" movie one day. Perhaps if the ratings are good when they repeat the older movies then they will consider it.
DeleteHowever, I don't know if SSD fits in with the direction they are going these days.
Thank you for sharing this. What a sweet birthday party. I love the Postables. Cant wait to watch this Saturday!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Sabrina! You are such a great friend; I'm so glad we can watch together! :)
DeleteThis is so gorgeous! I love the details of the cake and cupcakes. The figurine is so pretty! Happy Birthday to you! I would tweet it, but I deleted my account with them.
ReplyDeleteMisty
Misty, I love that you deleted your twitter account. You go, girl!! I never had twitter but I'm trying to delete all the rest of them. I de-Googled my life. I'm canceling purchases from all the "woke" companies (just wait 'til those companies find out that all the wokester teenagers hiding in mommy and daddy's basement and doing the online cancelling don't actually spend money on any of those products to begin with and they've now alienated all their REAL customers by going woke). I'm also trying to de-Amazon my life but that one is really, really hard!!
Delete~~Jane
Misty and Jane, I wish I would just delete my twitter too. I am just giving them all the power by staying. I try to get away from amazon, but the places I used to get things from in person stop carrying it, probably cause I was the only w=one buying, so I am stuck with Amazon for some things.
DeleteHappy Postables and WCTH watching this weekend, and happy Easter :) They can cancel things, but they cant cancel our beliefs, faith, love and what is in our hearts.
Misty, Jane, Sabrina,
DeleteI know just how you all feel about the big tech companies... I feel like we are surrounded by them! That's why I never joined Facebook. As for Twitter, I'm trying to do less with them. My web-site is automatically hooked up to share my recent posts there and there's a whole group of Hearties and POstables there. I wish we could all move somewhere else because I know how they are stifling freedom of speech for some, but not all, and it's quite scary. I like to know what's going on in the world, but lately I just have to turn the channel from the news.
I'm so glad we are like-minded in our beliefs. Happy Easter and blessings to you all!
That figurine would be a great idea for SSD and Hallmark tie in type stuff.

Misty, So true! It was the ideal cake topper for my SSD cake! I thought other POstables might enjoy having one too! :)

Laura, So glad you enjoyed seeing my SSD party. Thank you for the lovely compliment.
DeleteBlessings to you!
Net!! LOVE it!!! It looks so warm and inviting. Y'all are so creative. And I knew you loved the SSD series, but I had no idea just HOW much. I'm so glad I was able to buy all the dvd's and will definitely try to watch along on Saturday (and will think of you having some yummy birthday cake while you watch --- Hmmm? Maybe I need to bake a cake so I can celebrate while I watch, too!). I love that you save old cards. I do the same but sometimes when I'm going through a "clean-everything-out" phase I think that I should just get rid of them. But then I see my grandmother's handwriting or my mother's (she died young, when I was in my twenties) and I just can't throw them out.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday!
~~Jane
Jane, Thank you for the sweet compliments. My Momma, Sister and I always have such fun doing birthday parties for family together. I'm so blessed to have them! And yes, like you, I too am quite sentimental when it comes to any cards, letters or things. I think of them as little treasures from the past. You're so right - there is something so dear about seeing their name written at the bottom of the card in their special, unique handwriting and knowing they picked out that card with love just for you. My eyes nearly fill up with tears just thinking about it.
DeleteSo sorry to hear you lost your Mother when you were so young. I'm sure each memory you have is precious. The last SSD movie "To the Altar" has a storyline about the loss of one's Mother. It is very touching.
God's Blessings to you this Easter weekend!
Net, Signed Sealed Delivered:To the Altar is the one of the Signed Sealed Delivered movies that I have in my collection.
DeleteThat cake is amazing! I hope you have a wonderful birthday, and I'm so glad you get to celebrate with a marathon of SSD!
ReplyDeleteMarianne, Thank you so much! Glad you like the cake. It's always a delight to watch SSD and share that joy with others! :)
DeleteHappy Easter to you!
Thanks Net for sharing your celebration with us. What a creative lady you are! Everything is so beautiful. You chose the perfect theme with SSD. Love all of it! I am going to look for the figurine on Amazon.
ReplyDeletekitkat, It was my joy to share! My Momma and Sister are so creative when it comes to designing - I've learned so much from them.
DeleteAnd yes, "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" was such a fun theme to work with. So glad you liked the figurine... hope you can find one to add to your collection!
Happy Birthday Net! That SSD party looks amazing! I remember another birthday party you had a few years back and the theme was Doris Day as you share her birthday! That was beautiful as well. Your sister, mom and you are very talented. Is anyone in your family a professional baker? You could be!
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a wonderful birthday this Saturday and many more to come my dear friend! God's blessings to you! Love and Hugs!!
Joyce! Thank you, my friend! You are so sweet to remember my past birthday celebrations. I did do a spring theme once and included Doris Day with it. (For those who may not know - Doris Day's birthday was on April 3rd, too!)
DeleteI appreciate your compliments on the cake. None of us are professional bakers; however, my cousin is in school right now studying to do just that. My Momma, Sister, and I just enjoy doing it together for one another and for the rest of our family.
I hope you have lovely weekend, too! Love & Hugs to you, as well... and a blessed, Happy Easter!!! :)
Do you know that you also share a birthday with Alec Baldwin, Marlon Brando and Eddie Murphy?
DeleteHappy Happy Birthday, Thank you for keeping up to date on all these feel good shows. We definitely need them now!!!!
ReplyDeleteAwe, thank you so much! I'm so happy to share with you and everyone here! God bless! :)

DeleteThank you also for the birthday wishes! God bless you!!!
Finally watched SSD and I love it!!! I watched the first dvd which is the two-hour premiere movie. So fun! Can't wait to watch the rest of my dvd's. Thanks for recommending them, Net.
ReplyDelete~~Jane
Jane, That's wonderful! I am truly thrilled for you - that you've started this incredible series! Wasn't that bridge scene at the end of the pilot movie fantastic? I recall thinking as I watched it the first time, oh no... it's going to be a heartbreaking ending, but then... how good it felt when she rode up on her bicycle! *sigh* Love that moment!
DeleteEach movie/episode is so good, but the Christmas movie is my absolute favorite, along with the other movies - Lost Without You, Truth Be Told and Impossible Dream. I hope you'll enjoy each one as much as I did!
Welcome to the POstables!!! :)
Thank you Net for putting the salvation prayer on your web site. You never know who you might reach with it. Whether we know it or not, we all need Jesus as our Saviour. God bless you. RG
