Crossword Mysteries: Abracadaver
Starring: Lacey Chabert, Brennan Elliott
Premieres: Sunday, January 5, 2020
*See more details & images for this movie - HERE!
Storyline via Hallmark: When a magician drops dead in the middle of a performance, New York Sentinel Crosswords editor (and part-time sleuth) Tess Harper and NYPD’s detective Logan O’Connor team up to discover exactly whose sleight of hand is behind what turns out to be a premeditated murder. Together, they must uncover the not-so-obvious clues and work their investigative magic to bring a killer to justice.
Movie Review: This magic themed mystery movie was originally supposed to premiere in the fall of 2019, but it disappeared from the schedule. Thankfully, Hallmark reappeared it to launch their mystery movie franchises in January, 2020!
In this all new "Crossword Mysteries" film, Detective Logan O’Connor (portrayed by Brennan Elliott) is back on the case when a magician ends up murdered on stage during a magic act in the middle of Tess' birthday celebration. Of course, Tess (portrayed by Lacey Chabert) is determined to help solve this case, even though Logan and her Aunt Candace (portrayed by Barbara Niven) ask her repeatedly not to get involved.
Notes of Caution: I would caution this movie for really young viewers, simply because it is a murder mystery and relating to the case... there is a brief discussion of the possible involvement of a married woman with another man. There may also be some casual drinking at a party. And some children may be fearful of some of the magic tricks.
Illusions seem to be everywhere when it comes to magic, and you never know what to expect next. With smoke and mirrors, a missing trunk and a stage trap door... there's a mystery around every corner!
I must say, it's always a delight to see Lacey Chabert and Brennan Elliott on screen together - they have such an in sync chemistry, that certain undeniable spark! My absolute favorite moment in this film was when they crashed a dance class and proceeded to take pretend lessons. Those two really know how to move across the dance floor and in to our hearts!
Whether they are being silly or serious, Lacey are Brennan are always a joy to watch in all of their movies together, and I'm certainly looking forward to even more "Crossword Mysteries!"
Should YOU see it?
Now you see it, now you don't! If you enjoy a good mystery, then you'll definitely want to see this magical one!

A Beautiful Place to Die: A Martha's Vineyard Mystery
Starring: Jesse Metcalfe, Sarah Lind
Premieres: Sunday, January 12, 2020
*Special simulcast airing for this premiere on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, the Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Drama!
Storyline via Hallmark: After being injured and facing loss in the line of duty, retired Boston Police Detective Jeff Jackson (Metcalfe) returns to a quiet life of fishing, living in his late father’s home on Martha’s Vineyard. When a mysterious visitor to the island turns up dead, Jeff is reluctantly recruited to help in the investigation by the local police chief, a family friend. Adding a layer of complication, Zee Madieras – the chief’s daughter and Jeff’s former flame – is the medical examiner on the case. As the murder investigation casts suspicion on some of the town’s most powerful and wealthy citizens and brings Jeff and Zee’s lives in peril, they race to solve the case before another murder strikes the peaceful vacation town.
Movie Review: This movie is rated TV-PG, which I thought was suitable being a murder mystery. This is a film that may require parental guidance. Based on the subject matter, I feel this movie may be more suitable for those aged 13+.
Notes of Caution: There is dialogue about two adults (relating to the case) who may have had an affair in the past. Also, there is some casual drinking. After the murdered victim is discovered, the doctor is shown various times looking over the corpse. (I may have looked away here... just a minute... however, it was not shown in great detail.)
I thought Jesse Metcalfe was outstanding in his role, as retired Boston Police Detective Jeff Jackson. Being an expert in homicide investigations, there was a wonderful balance in his assisting the police and taking a step back. Although, circumstances in the case continuously draw him back in to working alongside the police chief and local doctor/old girlfriend, Zee... until they eventually discover who-dun-it.
Overall, this is a thrilling, action packed mystery, which is sure to appeal to those who like suspense and intrigue.

Roux the Day: A Gourmet Detective Mystery
Starring: Dylan Neal, Brooke Burns
Premieres: Sunday, January 19, 2020
Storyline via Hallmark: Henry and Maggie find themselves in a murder mystery where secrets hidden within a treasured recipe book have dire consequences for all who own it.
Gourmet chef turned culinary sleuth Henry Ross teams up once again with Detective Maggie Price when a rare and valuable book – the “Chef’s Book” from a legendary San Francisco restaurant – resurfaces and leads to the murder of a rather unscrupulous antiques dealer.
Please Note: I have not previewed these movies in advance. If I discover any content that is not family friendly I will be sure to post that information here. Some mysteries may be too much for younger viewers, so please be cautious there.
Jesse Metcalfe’s new mystery looks good! I’ve never seen his costar before but she seems nice. Thanks for sharing it will also air on the Hallmark channel. My mom only has that channel for Hallmark so I’ll be sure she knows. She loves to watch the mysteries when she visits my house to babysit.
ReplyDeleteIt is good
DeleteWho is excited for the new Gourmet Detective movie?!! I am!! I was so sad when it ended......and now I'm so happy that it's back! Hopefully it will stick around for a long while! Love the acting and chemistry and the HUMOR! It is one of the few HMM mysteries that I actually enjoy (and watch multiple times).....maybe I'm weird but most of them I can hardly make it through and am just board out of my mind!! :)
ReplyDeleteLB
LB, I'm excited, also! I love the Gourmet Detective series, and agree with you about the acting, chemistry and humor - it's been spot-on in all of the movies so far. I find all the HMM mysteries very similar to the cozy mystery books that I read... some of them are better than others but in almost all of them you usually have to suspend your disbelief and try not to roll your eyeballs. But they're usually relatively "clean" and not too scary for my tender sensibilities. I can't handle all the realistic crime stories on tv nowadays, I don't like having all that stuff lingering in my heart and mind. But a dead body found under a lilac bush in a quaint little seaside town, along with an amateur sleuth and a cute police detective is right up my alley! (I also like the Aurora Teagarden mystery movies, but it's probably mostly because I like Candace Cameron Bure.)

Henry and Maggie are the best team. I was upset when Hallmark started rushing their romance and thought they were gone for good. Happy they were brought out of cold storage. So much left to say and do in this series!
DeleteSO excited to see Gourmet Detective back, and yay for a new mystery with Jesse Metcalfe! Cannot wait to see it. :)
ReplyDeleteI too am extra excited about the return of The Gourmet Detective. I'm hoping Hallmark will do episodes. Welcome back Henry and Maggie, you were greatly missed.

ReplyDeleteSo glad to say that the Gourmet Detective is back! Love the crossword puzzle mystery, can't wait to see the new one, and would love to see Murder She baked in the flower pot Mysteries back on
ReplyDeleteGlad to see Lacey Chabert and Brennan Elliott back on the screen together. Love the chemistry of these two together.
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited for January mysteries love them.
ReplyDeletePlease someone tell me how to subscribe to Hallmark if I do not have a cable subscriber. I missed all of the Christmas movies and was very sad.
ReplyDeleteHello! If you're looking for a cable option, other than DirecTV, DISH, etc... then you may want to try a streaming source like frndlytv.com.
DeleteI have had several people tell me how much they enjoy it, so it's something I would definitely suggest looking into.
Here's a direct link:

Hope this is a good option for you. I'm sure it was hard to miss the Christmas movies last year, but maybe you can catch up as Hallmark plays encore airings of them throughout the year.
I can hardly wait I loved the Christmas movies to long of a period though I missed my mysteries is there any new Emma fielding and Aurora Teagarden
ReplyDeleteI'm not certain if there will be any more "Emma Fielding" movies, however there are definitely more "Aurora Teagarden" movies in the works!
DeleteOh, I can't wait. I can't afford cable so I wait and hopefully they will let it be on YouTube. And if I like it, I buy the DVD. I love these movies and watch them over and over and over again.
ReplyDeleteSo glad Christmas movies are over. Too many, too long.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely agree! Love the Gourmet Detective, so glad they are back. Now we need some with dogs and cats!!!!!
DeleteSo excited to see them back
ReplyDeleteBrennan Elliott mentioned Christmas in Vienna with his co-star Sarah Drew
ReplyDeleteI wish Hallmark would create a mystery line that did not revolve around solving a murder. The Signed Sealed Delivered Series delivers great content with mysteries to solve and I hope there will be another mystery line without murders in the future.
ReplyDeleteYES!!! I love the "Signed Sealed Delivered" type mysteries, too. I don't know why they had to move that series this year to the Drama Channel, as they are still mysteries. Anyway, I would also love to see less murder-type mysteries. A mystery movie can still be puzzling and intriguing without a murder to solve.
