PLOT:

Storyline via Hallmark: From Hallmark Hall of Fame, a journalist embarks on a cross-country train ride at Christmas having no idea this journey will take him into the rugged terrain of his own heart.

In “The Christmas Train,” disillusioned, globetrotting journalist Tom Langdon (Mulroney) must get from Washington, D.C. to Los Angeles in time for Christmas. Forced to take the intercontinental trip by train, and determined to chronicle his adventure, Tom finds himself westbound with a variety of characters. On the train is renowned movie producer Max (Glover), Max’s script doctor and protΓ©gΓ© Eleanor (Paisley), and Agnes (Cusack) who occupies the cabin opposite Tom’s and seems to know his business better than he does. While all passengers on the Christmas train appear to be headed for the same destination, Tom has no idea that the rugged locomotives taking him across America will instead detour straight into his heart – into rude awakenings, his wildest hopes and dreams, and toward the opportunity for love Tom thought was lost forever.

  3. I'm really looking forward to this movie. I read this book a couple of years back and loved it. Hallmark really pulled out the stops for the actors in this movie.

  4. This was a brilliant idea. Trains and Christmas go together perfectly. I even remember getting a small train set one year for Christmas. It wasn't as big as the one at the toy store on display, but I enjoyed it for many hours that Christmas and after.

  8. The Christmas Train delivers a wonderful message for the season. As with all the Hall of Fame productions this one delivers. Nostalgic, romantic and heartwarming. If you are looking for entertainment that brings back those yearning feelings that movies used to generate, The Christmas Train made created for you.

  10. My husband loves the scene on the train when Eleanor puts the bullying chessmaster in his place. We just
watched the movie again this week, and that scene is GONE! Is there anyone out there that knows why?
If you buy the video, which version will you get?

    1. Teri T, that is an Excellent Question! I recently noticed when re-watching my original recording of "The Christmas Train" that the movie was a little over 1 hour and 38 minutes when it first premiered. Typical Hallmark movies on TV are around 1 hour and 22-24 minutes long -without the commercials. It varies. Since the movie first premiered, they must have edited "The Christmas Train" some to fit in more commercial breaks.

I have unfortunately seen this before. It's especially bad with "A Boyfriend for Christmas" because they leave out when Ted discovers the truth about "Douglas Firwood"! The rest of the movie hardly makes sense without that moment, and just like with "The Christmas Train," it is an essential part of the movie. The chess scene you mentioned is all about making the right move at the right time. I often wonder what other special scenes are removed when I re-watch some of my favorite movies.

I would, however, expect the full version to be on the DVD, if and when it is finally released. If the DVD lists the running time then we will know for sure.

      Hope this information is helpful.
      Blessings, Net

  11. This was SUCH a good movie! The acting was well done, very intriguing storyline and so many familiar actors and actresses! I loved it. My husband likes to guess the plot for each movie and he was stumped on this one. If you have friends and family that refuse to watch Hallmark movies (as I do) show them this one! They won't be disappointed.
