WITH HALLMARK CHANNEL
FOR A THREE-PICTURE
DEVELOPMENT DEAL
*Excerpt from Hallmark Press Release:
STUDIO CITY, CA – May 23, 2016 – Hallmark Channel continues its successful creative partnership with the multi-platinum and Grammy Award-winning recording artist Mariah Carey for a three-picture executive producing deal with the superstar. Carey is set to develop, executive produce, direct and co-star in the movies, with the first slated to debut as part of Hallmark Channel’s 2017 ‘Countdown to Valentine’s Day’ programming event. She will also compose and produce an original song for each project.
“We are honored to continue our collaboration with the multi-talented Mariah Carey,” said Michelle Vicary, Executive Vice President of Programming, Crown Media Family Networks. “It’s rare to work with a talent who can produce, direct, star and also compose original music for a project, and we know she will deliver for our viewers once again.”
Carey starred and made her directorial debut in Hallmark Channel’s original movie “A Christmas Melody” in December 2015, which culminated the network’s flagship ‘Countdown to Christmas’ programming event and delivered a 3.3 HH rating and 3.9 million P2+.
Wonderful news, Net, but will we be getting a new Christmas movie out of those three??
ReplyDeleteNo one knows that at this time. The original plan (announced back in January, I believe) was for 3 movies, one of which would include a Countdown to Christmas 2016 movie. That's why Net had it added to her Christmas Movie News 2016 list at one point. There was supposed to be another Christmas movie.
DeleteNow, the plan changed (not an unusual occurrence in Hallmark's world) and the first of the 3 movies will be a Countdown to Valentine's Day movie.
So, since the deal is a 2-year agreement that includes 3 movies, Mariah could probably do a Countdown to Christmas movie in 2017, or maybe even in 2018. On the other hand, now that she has done one she might want to stick to other holidays and seasonal events. Perhaps a Fall Harvest movie, or a June Weddings movie?
Hallmark has not officially said what they plan to do for the other two Mariah Carey movies. It certainly is possible that one or both may end up being Christmas movies. Course, that won't be until 2017, so it will be a little while before we know.
DeleteWith there being so many different seasonal themes on Hallmark now, as Sherry mentioned, there's no telling where the next 2 will end up!
Hoepfully they include some on white leads in at least one of these movies. Mariah has a huge African American fanbase that supports her projects. Hallmarks wants to capitalize on her fanbase then they need to create movies her fans want to watch
