Hey there, Movie Friends!

Got any fun plans for the weekend? I know it's a busy time with some children going back to school this week, and lots of families trying to squeeze in one last Summer adventure. Plus, many of us are still soaking up every bit of Summer sunshine we can - while it lasts! If, however, you’re looking for a little downtime, I’ve got some movie picks you might want to add to your list this weekend.

Plus, for those of us missing Christmas in July, I've included the Friday night schedule of Christmas movies... enjoy!!!

Saturday, August 9, 2025:

Storyline: Kyra’s dreams of being a jeweler have been put on the back burner, as her demanding job at the Sawyer Country Club is her priority. When a vacant shop becomes available in town, Kyra sees an opportunity to put a plan into action, until she learns that there’s another renter interested in the space. Enter Aiden Sawyer, prodigal son, big-city business magnate and Kyra’s childhood nemesis, returning home to the country club his parents own. As they patch up their past, Kyra and Aiden learn that there may be something more between them than just playful flirting. But when Kyra enters a renowned jewelry contest to raise enough money to outbid the mystery renter, Aiden finds himself in a race against time to make everything right.

Premieres Saturday, August 9, 2025
at 9pm/8c. on Great American Family

Note: This movie originally premiered in 2021 on the BYU channel. See Alicia's and my reviews below...

Movie Reviews:

🎬 One of a Kind Love is a simple, sweet, family-friendly movie. The film stars Jocelyn Hudon, who is recognizable to Hallmark fans from When Hope Calls, From Friend to FiancΓ©, and Baby, It’s Cold Inside. Jocelyn portrays the very likable girl-next-door sort of character, Kyra, who dreams of being a jewelry designer and owning her own shop in town. In the meantime, she works at the local country club and sells her jewelry designs in her father’s antique shop. Just as she’s about to make plans to acquire the space for her own store, the son of the country club owners, Aidan, who is a wealthy business man used to traveling around the world and making deals by the minute, returns home and makes his own bid on the property and begins to steal Kyra’s heart, as well. Can they work it out before it’s too late? I think you’ll enjoy this happy ending. ~Net

🎬 I watched several of the new movies you told us about on BYUtv, Net. One of a Kind Love, Seasoned with Love, and You May Kiss the Bridesmaid all completely charmed me! Somehow, for me, they were more real and natural and engrossing. Glad to know I'm not just broken and unable to enjoy our wonderful, pleasant, cheesy movies anymore! ;-) ~Alicia

Saturday, August 9, 2025:

Storyline: Struck by the sudden death of her husband, Faith (Paula Patton) spirals out of control and loses her trust in God. But with the unwavering support of her family, pastor and close friends, Faith starts to find her way out of the darkness and into the light, rebuilding her life one step at a time.

Premieres Saturday, August 9, 2025
at 8pm/7c. on Lifetime

The Christian radio station KLove promoted the film Finding Faith when it premiered early in theaters.

I found this movie review on YouTube from someone who caught an early screening, so I thought I would share it with all of you...

Movie Review:

🎬 I attended the movie screening in Santa Monica, CA, on May 13th. This is a fantastic film about having it all, including a nice home, marriage, and family, only to lose it all, fight back, and find redemption. Paula Patton did an outstanding job as "Faith!" So did the others in the movie. It should be required viewing for churches, as the movie is a sermon in itself. Hopefully, the faith-based community will rally around this film and go in droves as a church outing. ~Eric C.

*CAUTION* Please Note: Based on the movie's promo (see here), Finding Faith will contain some adult content. Viewer discretion is advised.

( images: Hallmark Media / Great American Media - click to enlarge )

It’s the weekend again, friends!

We are now nearing the end of Christmas in July - with only two weekends to go! This month always flies by nearly as fast as Santa on Christmas Eve!

The Hallmark Channel is halfway through the cable premiere of their four Unwrapping Christmas films; however, there are still plenty of festive holiday classics airing throughout this weekend and the rest of July on Hallmark and Great American Family! I've included the weekend Christmas Schedule below. I’ve also shared (at the end of this post) a few of the Christmas movies I’m especially excited to watch- be sure to let me know your favorites in the comments!

Also, Lifetime has its first suspenseful movie premiere this weekend that includes faith. This film appears to be a powerful and inspirational story set against intense and emotional circumstances. Please note: I have not previewed this film. It may include some adult content and mature dialogue, so viewer discretion is advised.

Movie Reviews:

πŸŽ„ Unwrapping Christmas: Lily's Destiny is clean. –Maria

πŸŽ„ Unwrapping Christmas: Lily’s Destiny is another delightful installment in this charming series. This story introduces an intriguing love triangle that keeps things interesting. Lily, portrayed by Ashley Newbrough, is radiant and attractive; she finds herself torn between the town’s wealthy, most eligible bachelor and a new acquaintance who shares a meaningful connection to her past and brings a comforting sense of home. It's a fun, feel-good, family-friendly movie. ~Net

Storyline: Nichole Jolly is a nurse at the town’s hospital, who begins her day as usual, only to face an unimaginable crisis when a wildfire rapidly engulfs the town. Torn between her duty to protect her patients and her desperate need to find her husband Nick, (Colin Moss) and children, Nichole discovers an unyielding strength within herself to save not only her family but countless residents from the encroaching flames. πŸ’• Warm Your Heart This Weekend with New Movies, Christmas Classics, and When Calls the Heart...

Hello, friends!

Another weekend is upon us! Is it just me, or is it amazing how much time has already passed since Christmas? Only 2 more weeks left in January! And... I must admit, my family and I are still watching leftover Christmas movies!!! In fact, I've been meaning to add more Christmas movie reviews, and if you'd like to share some, too, please feel free to do so. I know many of us are still trying to play catch up with the Christmas movies we missed over the holidays.

Each season of the year brings it's own special uniqueness and beauty! This winter, however, has been exceptionably cold for us here in the Midwest, so I've appreciated the beauty more from the indoors, than when I must be out in it, as we do chores around our farm. We attempted to build a snowman, but the snow was just too cold to pack or roll. Funny enough, you actually need a little warmer weather, around 30 degrees. (Yeah, that is considered warm for us these days!)

Currently, we have a good 3-4 inches of snow on the ground, and we are anticipating, maybe, a couple more inches coming our way soon! Then, next week, we are expecting the extreme Polar Vortex. Brrrr!!! Is your area receiving it, too? Even the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump in Washington, D.C., which historically has taken place at the West Front of the Capitol, is moving indoors to the Capitol Rotunda due to severe weather concerns for Monday, January 20th. I think that was a very smart decision. I'm praying anyone who is outside will be able to find shelter in these bitter cold days to come.

If your weather is also frigid, then this weekend is definitely the right time to stay in, keep warm, and enjoy a good movie or two!

See my suggestions below...

*Hallmark Family will also be airing 2 bonus Christmas movies on Saturday - "Window Wonderland" at 1pm/12c. and "Crashing Through the Snow" at 5pm/4c.

I hope you all have a nice, enjoyable weekend. Be well, everyone. I've had lots of extended family members have the cold and flu, lately, so I know it is going around something fierce... so be sure to take care all.

I'm looking forward to seeing the movie on Great American Family. I love the story premise of searching for the owner of a valuable china piece. That sounds very interesting. It kind of reminds me of two Hallmark Christmas movies I love, The Christmas Ring and A Little Christmas Charm.

For all of you "Heartland" fans, don't forget, UPtv will have the second episode of Season 17 on Sunday night at 7pm/6c.

Also, on Sunday night... I'm looking forward to the new episode of "When Calls the Heart." I really appreciate the way the importance of family and faith has been woven into this season. I'm hoping we will see even more faith elements. I've included a video clip of one of my favorite scenes from last week's episode below. I hope it touches your soul as much as it has touched mine.

Please Note: I haven't pre-screened the new movies or TV series episodes premiering this weekend. If you'd like to post a review on whether these films are family-friendly, please share in the comments below. Thank you so much to everyone who shares with us.

Keep warm this weekend, everyone.

Blessings to You All!

 SHINING HIS LIGHT:

☀️

A Psalm of David.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

🌟 New Year's Eve Specials... 🌟

Of course, there are all sorts of New Year's Eve TV Specials to welcome in the New Year - on your local and cable news channels. (Please note: Some of the entertainment options aren't exactly family-friendly, so you'll want to be careful in choosing which channel to watch.) Then, we welcome in and pray over the New Year together! Our celebration isn't anything fancy, but we simply enjoy this special, meaningful time with one another. I hope your New Year's Eve is just as delightful. Please share your plans for New Year's Eve or thoughts for 2023 in comments below.

πŸŽ… Two Popular Christmas Sequels In-The-Works! πŸŽ„ Do YOU say Yes, Yes, Yeeeessss or HO-HO-NO? πŸŽ…

You may have already heard this recently released Christmas Entertainment news, but just in case you haven't - on January 14th, 2022, Disney announced actor Tim Allen (Home Improvement, Toy Story (voice of Buzz Lightyear), Last Man Standing, etc...) would be reprising his role as Santa Claus/Scott Calvin in an all new "Santa Clause" series for their streaming service, Disney Plus.

According to an article in Variety, here is the storyline: "In the series, Scott Calvin is on the brink of his 65th birthday and realizing that he can’t be Santa forever. He’s starting to lose a step in his Santa duties, and more importantly, he’s got a family who could benefit from a life in the normal world, especially his two kids who have grown up at the Pole. With a lot of elves, children, and family to please, Scott sets out to find a suitable replacement Santa while preparing his family for a new adventure in a life south of the pole.

πŸŽ„My Quick Take - on the "Santa Clause" sequel news:

I personally have always loved the trilogy of "Santa Clause" films, ever since I watched the first movie in 1994! Back in the 90's, the "Home Improvement" sitcom was quite popular, so that made Tim Allen an excellent choice for this role. There's something so magical and enchanting about the North Pole and Santa, of course! Watching Scott Calvin transform into the role of Santa Claus and delivering gifts from home to home is always so much fun. I especially love his son, Charlie... his overwhelming excitement is like every little boy and girl at Christmas - who still believes! We are introduced to Charlie's little sister, Lucy, in "The Santa Clause 2," and she has the same sparkle about Christmas in her eyes, as Charlie did in the first film!

Ever since I heard this sequel news, I've been thinking it over, and I must say, I don't really like the idea of Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) stepping down from his role as Santa. Santa Claus has always held the iconic image of being older with his gray hair and beard, plump belly, and glasses. The age of 65 actually seems ideal for Santa. I always thought Tim Allen was a little young for the role before, and now that he is the perfect age (in my opinion) to be Santa Claus (or Santa Clause!), they want to replace him with someone, presumably, younger? Frankly, I'm not liking this. While I do love the idea of there being an all new "Santa Clause' series, I'm not liking the idea of Santa being replaced. It's my hope that Scott Calvin sets out to find someone new, perhaps his son, Charlie, and either he takes over or Scott (Tim Allen) realizes a renewed love for his mission of being Santa!

I would love to hear your thoughts in comments below...

The other popular Christmas sequel recently announced on January 20, 2022 - is a sequel to "A Christmas Story". I find this is a movie most people either love or hate. My aunt always loved it! To be honest, though, it's not one I personally love, but I don't hate it either. There's something about the 1940's era and nostalgic part of it that pulls me in. Now, the father can be rather gruff and somewhat vulgar with his leg lamp and all, but that's part of the comedy of the story, I guess, that draws people in. Ralphie's ultimate dream of wanting the "Red Ryder, carbine action, two-hundred shot range model air rifle" (AKA: BB gun) actually comes true, and that's also part of the charm people like, a child's simple wish coming true at Christmas time. The movie was actually filmed in Cleveland, Ohio and Toronto, Ontario. I think filming in the Cleveland area in the early 80's, gave it a realistic sense of small town America.

The fictional home used for "A Christmas Story" still stands in Ohio today; in fact, it was purchased by a man from California on Ebay for $150,000! He turned the place into a museum, movie merchandise store (they have some cute ornaments!), and according to the FAQs on the official web-site, they "triple dog dare you to spend the night in A Christmas Story House!" Reservation details can be found here. I think that would be a pretty neat overnight stay for anyone who loves the movie.

As for the sequel, Entertainment Weekly announced that Peter Billingsley will reprise his role as Ralphie and produce this all new feature for HBO Max, which has been titled, "A Christmas Story Christmas". Furthermore, EW shared these story details: "The sequel will follow an adult version of the character in the 1970s, who returns to the house on Cleveland Street to deliver his kids a magical Christmas like the one he had growing up. With the same attention to real-life tone as the original, Ralphie reconnects with childhood friends, reconciles the passing of his "Old Man," and sews the seeds for the origins of the beloved holiday classic."

πŸŽ„My Quick Take - on "A Christmas Story" sequel news:

The storyline we've been given sounds rather intriguing, as long as they keep the content PG clean. It's hard to say if that will happen, especially since it will be premiering on HBO Max. It sounds rather heartwarming to see a grown up Ralphie return to his childhood home and reconnect with past friends, but I'm sure there will be some comedy in there, too. Hope they are also able to bring back some of the other well-known characters from the original movie.

I would love to know your opinion on both sequels. Are you a fan of the "Santa Clause" or "A Christmas Story"? Please share your thoughts in comments below.

Christmas TV Highlights for December 13 - 17!

A new week is here - with new Christmas movie premieres and old classics - we hold near and dear! I thought I would share some of the TV highlights for the week, including the nightly new Lifetime movies, which you can see in the schedule below or click here for more details.

I'm always excited to see an airing of It's a Wonderful Life and this time around it's on USA on Wednesday night. There's nothing quite like George Bailey in Bedford Falls. Even though I know every line by heart, I still love it every time! As for Home Alone, I've heard people say they've grown tired of seeing it. Not me! There's just something so beautiful about that film - the way Kevin eventually speaks to his older neighbor at the church and then, he finally reconnects with his son. With all the comedy in the movie, there is still a very important message about love, family, and forgiveness. I hope you find something to watch this week that warms your heart.

My Movie Review:

If you are searching for a timeless movie treasure, then take an excursion back in time to 'Meet Me in St. Louis'...

By far, one of the best musicals ever maid! Judy Garland sings "The Boy Next Door", "The Trolley Song", and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," still a Christmas standard favorite all these years later! All three songs are absolutely beautiful and a joy to watch! There are also wonderful dancing scenes, as well. At one point everyone at Lon's going away party is dancing to "Skip to my Lou" and then later, Esther's little sister, Tootie, talks her into doing a special song and dance number with her.

'Meet Me in St. Louis' is such a sweet story about the everyday life, in one year, of the Smith family, which consists of their father, Alonzo (a prominent attorney), their mother, Anna, grandpa, one son, Lon (who is the eldest and goes to college), and 4 daughters: Rose, Esther (Judy Garland), Agnus, and Tootie, who is the youngest and quite spirited.

This wonderful family film centers around the excitement of the Smith family just as the World's Fair will be coming to their hometown of St. Louis. Everything is tranquil and ideal in their little world until the day when Alonzo (the father) announces they will be moving to New York. At first, the family is not thrilled with this idea. Esther has just recently caught the eye of the "boy next door" and doesn't want to leave and everyone else is also attached to their home, friends, community, and simple way of life. The family, however, eventually comes around, and is supportive, yet still very sad, that they will have to leave their friends and home. Their father promises them that at least they will come back for the fair, maybe.

Near the end of the movie, there is a touching Christmas scene that is beautiful and sure to warm your heart!

'Meet Me in St. Louis' is as wholesome and American as Apple Pie. It's purity and sweetness is why I love it so much; it may also be the reason why it has reached the hearts of generation after generation.
