πŸŽƒ PERFECT PICKS from the PATCH... πŸŽƒ PUMPKIN PIE WARS and MORE HALLMARK MOVIES - NEW on DVD for SEPTEMBER!!!

Pumpkin Pie Wars

HALLMARK DVD RELEASES
FOR SEPTEMBER INCLUDE:

September 11, 2018
At Home in Mitford

September 14, 2018
Hallmark Holiday DVD:
Winter’s Dream / The Perfect Catch / One Winter’s Weekend

September 18, 2018
The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler
(Hallmark Hall of Fame, re-release)

September 25, 2018
Pumpkin Pie Wars

There are many good movies to choose from this month on DVD, like the powerful real life story of Irena Sendler (Anna Paquin), a Polish social worker who saved nearly 2500 Jewish children from being deported to death camps during World War II by placing them with Polish families and in convents. See her impactful story in the Hallmark Hall of Fame movie The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler. (this is a DVD re-release.)

For those of you who are familiar with the Mitford book series (like myself), I know we were a bit disappointed by the movie, At Home in Mitford, based (loosely) on the Jan Karon novels-πŸ“–. The stories and physical characteristics were so different in the movie, then what we readers had ever anticipated, or imagined, for Father Tim and Cynthia. In contrast, the responses I received from those who had never read the books, was more positive. To my knowledge, Hallmark only aired this movie one time on TV, and I'm wondering if that was due to the mixed feedback received afterwards. Because of my great love for the books, I must say this movie was a miss for me personally. Was this movie a hit, or miss, for you?

Also available this month on DVD, are THREE fantastic Hallmark movies in ONE DVD collection featuring sports... "Winter’s Dream," "The Perfect Catch," and "One Winter’s Weekend." Skiing🎿 is THE Winter sport featured in "Winter's Dream," with Dean Cain and Kristy Swanson, while baseball⚾ is a hit in "The Perfect Catch," with Andrew W. Walker and Nikki DeLoach; and in "One Winter's Weekend" you'll find Taylor Cole and Jack Turner snowboardingπŸ‚ and possibly falling... not only on the slopes, but for one another! All these movies are truly delightful Hallmark rom-com family-friendly movies!

Pumpkin Pie Wars... πŸŽƒ is another great Hallmark romantic comedy... it's a "Fall Harvest" story featuring Casey (Julie Gonzalo) and Sam (Eric Aragon), who are set to carry on their families' bakery rivalry as they compete in the local pumpkin pie contest. The only problem is... these two competitors just may be "FALL"ing in LOVE! This feel good film would make a wonderful addition to any DVD collection! A true delicious treat... Pumpkin Pie Wars is THE Perfect Pick!

Unfortunately for the pair, Dan has agreed to marry his glamorous TV personality girlfriend and move to the Big Apple in 30 days. With Dan’s big move looming in the near future, his sister, Michelle, decides to take matters into her own hands by encouraging Carly to show him how she feels. The two arrange a local dog show to help promote adoptions in hopes of bringing Carly and Dan closer together. The question is: can Carly win over his heart before he disappears from her life (in 30 days or less!)?

‘AT HOME IN MITFORD’

Stars: Andie MacDowell (“Debbie Macomber’s Cedar Cove,” “Groundhog Day”) and Cameron Mathison (“Entertainment Tonight”).
NEW DATE AND TIME
Premieres: Sunday, August 20 (10 p.m. ET/PT)

It’s easy to feel at home in Mitford; the surroundings are green and natural, the air is fresh and pure, the village is charming and the people who live there are neighborly and lovable – all the things writer Cynthia Coppersmith (MacDowell) is looking for to help her finish her next book. When Cynthia arrives in the picture-perfect town to settle her beloved uncle’s affairs after his passing and get his house ready for sale, she is quickly drawn in to life in Mitford. Father Tim Kavanaugh (Mathison), the town’s bachelor rector, develops feelings for Cynthia despite their rocky start, as does a handsome realtor who seems to be looking to hang a “sold” sign on Cynthia’s heart. After Cynthia agrees to help Father Tim look after a lonely boy in need of some TLC in the wake of his parents’ military deployment overseas, it becomes clear that Mitford has grown on her like a beautiful, flowering vine. By the time she finishes her latest book about a magical cat named Violet, Cynthia is torn between returning to the big city and making Mitford her new home.

‘SUN, SAND & ROMANCE’
Hallmark Channel Original Movie World Premiere
Stars: Tricia Helfer (“Lucifer,” “Suits”), Paul Campbell (“Knight Rider”), Scott Elrod (“Grey’s Anatomy,” “Chicago Fire”) and Sadie Robertson (“Duck Dynasty”)

Kate (Helfer), a driven accounting executive, heads to Cancun with her boyfriend Eric (Elrod), an equally ambitious land development executive, for some much-needed rest and relaxation. But the getaway they agreed would be 90 percent romance and just 10 percent work becomes anything but that. Upon arrival, Eric learns a prominent real estate developer is a guest in their resort. Wanting to seize the opportunity for potential business, Eric chases this new venture and leaves Kate to her own devices time and again. Luckily, Shep (Campbell), the resort’s activities director, is an old friend of Kate’s from her camp counselor days and more than willing to help fill her solo hours with fun and adventure. As the old friends spend more time together and reconnect, Kate is reminded of dreams she used to have and finds herself wondering if it’s time to change course.

STUDIO CITY, CA – June 12, 2017 – Hallmark Channel announces the start of production of its newest Hallmark Channel Original Movie, “At Home in Mitford,” starring three-time Golden Globe Nominee Andie MacDowell (“Magic Mike XXL” “Cedar Cove”) and four-time Daytime Emmy Nominee Cameron Mathison (“Entertainment Tonight,” “Murder She Baked”). “At Home In Mitford” is based on the best-selling novel by Jan Karon. The film tells the romantic and inspirational story of best-selling author Cynthia Copperstone (MacDowell), a woman who’s learning there is more to life and love than completing checklists. With her cat (and muse), Violet in tow, Cynthia leaves Boston to spend some time in her late uncle’s small town of Mitford, North Carolina, in hopes of alleviating some career-damaging writer’s block. Cynthia soon finds the heart and soul of the southern town in Father Tim Kavanagh (Mathison), a pastor in Mitford. As the pair works together to help a young boy Dooley (Nicholas Holmes) who has recently lost his family, Cynthia and Pastor Tim find solace, comfort, even romance.

“At Home In Mitford” is a Mitford Films, Inc. production. Andie MacDowell and Howard Braunstein are Executive Producers. Christian Bruyere is Producer. Gary Harvey directs from an original screenplay written by Margaret Oberman and Pam Wallace. Script is based on the beloved novel of the same name by Jan Karon.

(------END of PRESS RELEASE------)

My Take:

I am absolutely delighted to see the book At Home in Mitford finally become a movie! (especially a Hallmark Channel movie!) Jan Karon's work is an engaging masterpiece, a grand puzzle of many pieces that fit all together- in the way she beautifully weaves all of these stories to bring together so many of the townspeople, in the fictional town of Mitford, with their unique, run-of-the-mill, yet fascinating everyday lives! It is sincerely amazing! A true gift from God!

Since this is a bestseller, I'm sure many of you are also familiar with these stories. My first introduction to the At Home in Mitford series was from my Momma (several years back!)... who learned about it from Focus on the Family's Radio Theatre! Without any hesitation, after hearing an excerpt on the radio, we ordered the audio set - based on the first book. It was beyond wonderful! In the audio adaption, Dean Jones (popular from the classic Disney Movies, such as: "Herbie, the Love Bug," "Snowball Express," "That Darn Cat," etc...) voices the character of Father Timothy Kavanagh, a single bachelor Episcopal priest. It is certainly more, though, then just a voice... there's a deep warmness in Dean Jones' tone, a gentle spirit, whose faith exudes in his every word. And, then you add in the precocious, abandoned young boy Dooley who winds up at Father Tim's doorstep... well, from there, as you might guess, I was hooked, line and sinker!

For this upcoming Hallmark movie adaptation, I am, however, somewhat surprised by the casting choices. Cameron Mathison has a sweet-tempered quality about him that would fit Father Tim nicely (*However, I agree with comments below - he doesn't fit the age or image we think of for Father Timothy, from the books, who is supposed to be in his 60's and a little over weight) and Andie MacDowell has that honeyed southern charm quality about her that will be interesting to see in the role of author Cynthia Copperstone. (*Not sure, however, how well these two will match up!) (Note: Andie MacDowell is a Southerner and Cynthia Coppersmith (that is her last name in the books) is not. That's why it will be interesting to see Andie portray this non-Southern character in the fictional Southern town/village of Mitford, nestled in the North Carolina mountains.)

Now, I just wonder if Hallmark's famous "Happy the Cat" will portray Cynthia's cat, Violet! In the stories, she is a white fluffy cat, so I don't think that will work, unless they decide to change her character up for the movie, too.

The Mitford book series has been so widely popular... that it has spawned off cookbooks (includes Louella's Cinnamon Rolls, Lottie Greer's Fried Chicken and Country Biscuits, Cynthia's Lasagna, etc...), childrens books (about Violet, Cynthia's cat), plus Hallmark Keepsake Ornaments, etc!!! And, now a Hallmark movie!

I hope you will join me in looking forward to seeing "At Home in Mitford" this August on the Hallmark Channel! Please share your thoughts in comments below! I would love to know... Are you new to these books? Or, have you read this series? If so, where did you learn about them? Or, anything else you would like to share about this upcoming Hallmark Movie!

Blessings to you all, Net

Here are some wonderful quotes from the book -
At Home in Mitford:

“Lord, make me a blessing to someone today.”
― Jan Karon, At Home in Mitford

“Are you reading your Bible?”
"Ah, well...I was."
"And then you quit."
"You got it."
"Then, you can expect to be weak on one of your flanks, and that's precisely where the Enemy will come after you with a vengeance.”
― Jan Karon, At Home in Mitford

“Well, I'm going to church. But I've got to tell you that it's full of hypocrites.”
“My friend, if you keep your eyes on Christians, you will be disappointed every day of your life. Your hope is to keep your eyes on Christ.”
― Jan Karon, At Home in Mitford
