Easter TV Specials 2014

This year there will be a lot of Easter Specials on TV!

ABC will have their annual airing of the movie The Ten Commandments the Saturday evening before Easter, with Charlton Heston as Moses. I am in awe every time I watch it and see the water part. On Easter night, ABC will have the Peanuts Gang in "It's the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown".

The network UP has two weeks of Religious Themed Movies in their Greatest Stories of the Bible Series, including The Passion of the Christ. For me, it is one of the most meaningful movies of the crucifixion. I love that we get to see a Jesus as a Baby, a young Boy, and as a Man... as He preaches and teaches, leads His disciples, is crucified on the cross, and then, as He is raised from the dead three days later. (Please note: due to violence, this movie is not suitable for young children.)

The Hallmark Channel and INSP will show special Easter Episodes of "The Waltons".

TBN will also have Religious Themed Easter Movies.

ABC Family will have the adorable Easter Bunny themed movie HOP.

Disney will have Easter Cartoons.

TCM will have Religious Themed Easter Movies and be sure to get out your Easter Bonnet and Dancing Shoes... for the classic Easter Movie, Easter Parade, with Judy Garland and Fred Astaire!

Be sure to visit the Family TV Schedule for times airing for these Easter Specials and More!

Have a Blessed Easter, Everyone!

Original Air Date: November 30, 2014

Jim Thorburn ... Walter Dunlap
Eric Keenleyside ... Gordon Logan
Lini Evans ... Betty Logan
Olivia Steele-Falconer ... young Molly
Yasmeene Lily-Elle Ball ... Victoria
Alisha Newton ... Sofia

PLOT:

In the UP Original Movie The Tree That Saved Christmas, imaginative, hard-working Molly Logan (Lacey Chabert) grew up on her family’s generations-old Christmas tree farm in rural Vermont and would often write stories about individual trees as they shipped out, her favorite being a “Charlie Brown” tree struggling to grow.

One day, after hearing the roar of buzz saws used to clear the woods of sickly saplings, nine-year-old Molly (Olivia Steele-Falconer) ran to save her favorite – even after her father Gordon (Eric Keenleyside) and his crew had made a gash in its trunk. She knew that someday this little tree would have a story to tell. Now 29, Molly lives in Manhattan and is pursuing her dreams of a writing career.

Unfortunately as an assistant to Pendant Publishing CEO Walter Dunlap (Jim Thorburn), Molly has no life and little chance to write. Buried with work and Mr. Dunlap’s personal Christmas plans, Molly is devastated to learn from her architect brother Ryan (Matthew Anderson) that the bank is foreclosing on her parents’ heritage tree farm. This will be her family’s last Christmas at the farm as all the trees will be cleared to make way for a golf course. However, a frustrated Molly can’t make it home thanks to obligations to her boss and his young daughters Victoria (Yasmeene Lily-Elle Ball) and Sofia (Alisha Newton).

Much to her shock, Molly discovers that the Christmas tree she ordered for the Dunlap home is that same one she saved years ago, down to the distinctive gash on its trunk. Certain that it is the same tree from her youth – and a sign – Molly drags the tree back to her Vermont home and embarks upon a plan to save the family farm – with some surprising, inventive help from her brother and former boyfriend Lucas (Corey Sevier), who now works at the bank for his father Elliot (James Kidnie).

PLOT:

via UP TV:

A five-year-old Angela Logan (Millie Davis) is in her grandmother Nellie’s (Darlene Cooke) kitchen in Teaneck, New Jersey learning how to make apple cake and discovering the joys of baking.

Nellie tells Angela: “Cake makes people happy. One bowl, one mixer, and the right company, and you’re set for life.”

Thirty-five years later, Angela (Kimberly Elise) is a single, working mom with three teenage boys, Marcus (A.J. Saudin), William, (Stephan James) and Nicolas (Lamar Johnson). She juggles various jobs and helps with employment counseling at the local Mission. While thrilled to be in the family home where she learned to bake, the house is falling apart, with sections deemed uninhabitable by inspectors after storm and flood damage. Plus, the car just decided not to start – and the boys all still need shoes, books and food.

She has always made due until now – when her lender calls in the mortgage loan and puts her into foreclosure. Angela has 10 days to come up with $4000 or she loses her home.

The UP original drama, Apple Mortgage Cake, is based on the true story of a woman who decides to bake 100 apple cakes and sell them at $40 each in order to save her home – and how this idea completely changes her and her family.

As word of her “bake sale” ripples out through neighbors, friends, her church and even old flames, such as Melvin (Kevin Hanchard), the story soon spreads to the news, locally, nationally and internationally. Orders fly in from all over the world. Angela is taken off guard by the overwhelming support.

But soon, this fiercely independent woman learns to depend on the kindness and love of others that comes her way, particularly when the community and local businesses rally around Angela to help her finish and ship the initial stack of orders.

PLOT:

When the writer of a local, obsessively-read, beloved advice column, entitled "Dear Viola," decides to retire and leave the quaint seaside village of Bellport, seasoned editor Earl Bellamy (Neil Crone) is taken aback. While hoping to keep a lid on this news and his paper going, Earl unexpectedly finds a brand -new "Viola" column on his desk. Earl, his “The Bellport Herald” staffers Brian (Adamo Ruggiero) and Peggy (Sheila McCarthy), and soon the entire town find Viola’s new published tone to be refreshing, no -nonsense, funny and wise. An outpouring of mail for Viola floods in. Again, Earl leaves the mail on his desk and another column appears.

Using the security camera, Earl discovers the mystery columnist to be none other than Katie Miner (Kellie Martin), the shy accountant who has quietly done the books at the paper for years. Katie agrees to continue writing the column as long as her identity can remain secret. Sifting through a mountain of letters, Katie becomes struck by one from a widower, Russ (Jefferson Brown), who calls himself "Mr. Lost Love." Working as a deep sea fisherman with pal Clay Jackson (Arnold Pinnock), Russ can’t seem to move past the loss of his wife five years prior and struggles to find the strength to raise his young daughter, Meredith (Kira Gelineau). Firmly, Katie encourages him to reach out to others, begin dating and start living. As they correspond through the column and run into each other (hidden by their pen names), Katie starts to fall for Russ. But when Russ decides to take Viola’s advice and start dating the knockout new girl in town, Jamie (Brittany Gray), Katie has to decide if it’s really in her best interest to keep her identity and growing feelings secret.

Movie Review:

"Dear Viola" is an advice column in a newspaper, much like "Dear Abbey". So let me give you a little advice, Viola style...

Dear Viewers, No love is lost, but gained, when you open yourself up to life and new experiences, and this delightful movie!

If you missed the premiere of "Dear Viola", an UP Original Movie, than you missed something uniquely special. Actress Kellie Martin portrays shy and fashionably challenged Katie Miner. When the former advice column writer retires, Katie anonymously slips a new "Dear Viola" column on the boss' desk. He likes what she has written, and thanks to security cameras - he knows it is Katie who has placed it there. With his promise to keep it a secret, as long as she keeps writing great responses, and she can keep her bookkeeping job, too - they make a deal!

Katie reads through a pile of "Dear Viola" letters deciding who to respond to next. And, then she finds it, a letter from a Mr. Lost Love, a widower. Kate chooses that one and she doesn't sugarcoat a thing. By day, Katie is shy and reserved, but under the disguise of Viola, she can be expressive and witty, full of spunk. She encourages "Mr. Lost Love" to move on with his life and start dating again.

However, Katie has no idea, at the time, that she has just encouraged the guy she likes, Russ, in a series of "Viola" letters, to start dating a newcomer in town, Jamie, who is a blonde bombshell, and no match for herself. Russ doesn't even seem to notice Katie, except she's a great babysitter for his daughter Meredith and she bakes great cupcakes. Jamie, in turn, has no interest in Meredith, cooking, or anything domestic, for that matter. When Meredith ends up missing, Jamie offers to help Russ find her, but eventually leaves to go home and get her beauty sleep. Katie is there, helping Russ search from the start and is the one who actually figures out where Meredith has gone.

From there, it is easy to see that Russ has just seen a new side of Katie, his daughter Meredith, and himself, and Jamie, too.

Will Russ be able to find true love again? Will Katie reveal her "Dear Viola" identity and feelings to Russ?

I think you will enjoy this fun, light-hearted movie and it's very sweet ending!
